My family was very disappointed with this restaurant! Extremely inconsiderate owner! Where to start? Our waitress was terrible, we had to flag her down for every single thing. She forgot to bring our drinks after we ordered them, and then never brought our refills. My husband had to go over to the bar to get a beer. An hour and 10 minutes after we ordered, our salads came. 20 minutes after that, the waitress came over and told us that they were out of the special entree that my husband had ordered. And he had to choose something else. This was also confusing because they should've known that an hour and 20 minutes earlier? The rest of the family's dinner then came out. And his did not. When we were finished, his food finally arrived. We asked for his meal to be compensated off of the bill since he did not get what he had wanted and he also didn't even get to enjoy his dinner with the family. The owner denied our request. All together we waited two hours for our dinner. French fries and fried pork cutlets do not take two hours. read more

This was the second time that we've been to this Restaurant, the first time being soon after they opened. That first visit was super disappointing, however, I really wanted to like this place. I'm German and there are not very many German Restaurants near by. Also, this is a Family owned business and I try to support small businesses. My husband and I arrived at circa 19:50 and all tables were taken. Awesome, I told my husband, I'm glad that they are full, busy is good for business . Since they were not on a wait, and they don't close until 22:00, we were prepared to wait for a table. At 20:00 a waitress came over and asked if someone had spoken to us, we answered in the negative. She said that she had to turn us away, as they didn't have any tables available, and we couldn't be served before they close. Mind you, they are advertising that they are open for business until 22:00. They stop seating guests a full 2 hours before closing. Unbelievable. There should be a sign on the door that they are not interested in succeeding. Side note. Great food! I knocked off one star just because heating a handful of things that was on the table would have made the dishes so much better. We got a cheese dip (started w an O) that was great! The pretzel rolls that came would have been so good warm but were cold. The side salads were all great ; my husband and sister in law thought the potato salad should have been warm. I liked it how it was though. The apple strudel cake was good but also would have been better warmed. Now that I'm done gripping let me RAVE the cheese dip was great! The person who delivers my food suggested taking the left over home and cooking in a bread bowl and we plan to ! It was far too good to waste! I had the Jagersnitzle and it was great! I really enjoyed all the salads that came with it the cucumber,potato and cabbage slaw like one! Good Hefeweizen beer, attentive waitress. Had a great experience the first time we went. Tried to go a second time tonight, waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged by anyone and were turned away at 8pm saying the kitchen was closing in 30 minutes when the restaurant doesn't close until 9:30pm. I had to push them to ask if we could order food from the bar and they agreed but we're reluctant. We ended up leaving because of the uncertainty of getting food. Really disappointed in the way this business is being run. If you are open until 9:30pm your kitchen should be open until then, it's not a bar, it's a restaurant. read more

OMG ........ What an EXCELLENT restaurant. I go to Germany/Austria a few times +++ a year, and this is right from the Old Country. I sampled everyone's meal at our table (there were 4 of us), again OMG EXCELLENT food. I can't say enough great things about the quality of the food. The server was great and always checked in with us. Great Bavarian/Bayern beer on tap. The owners were wonderful. My wife had the dessert and it was just wonderful. The food is so fresh! The food is made to order and you need to be patient, since it's prepared just for you. If you are in a hurry, you will need to be patient, - IT's WORTH IT! ...... GREAT restaurant! My wife and I drove down from Winston Salem for an early Tuesday night dinner. We were immediately greeted with a friendly hello and smile. We had looked at the menu online and had a pretty good idea of what they served. My wife loved the cream of garlic soup. We shared the pretzels and cheese spread,also very good. The funnel beer was fresh and refreshing.My wife said her rouladen was one of the best she's ever tasted.I enjoyed my schnitzel, Our sides of red cabbage,sauerkraut,cuke salad, potato salad were all fantastic. We visited Bavarian Kitchen for the second time on 11/9. The food and service were both excellent. I enjoyed the Schweinbraten. It reminded me of the schweinshaxe I have had many times in Germany. Taste was excellent and the quantity required me to take some home for another meal. My wife ordered the weisswurst. Instead of two sausages, she was server four. They were very tasty, and like me, she had a second meal at home the next day. Finally we have great Bavarian restaurant in the Lake Norman area. The owners and servers help create a very friendly atmosphere. We are returning this week with four of our neighbors. read more

I have lived in Bavaria and the dishes were spot on. We went with a large group and it was a great time and fun "Oktoberfest" sort of atmosphere... with reasonably authentic decor. All of the food was very good...the only drawback, and I know this is a difficult concept for a US audience, but the portion sizes were so large, they felt nearly obscene, and, off putting. In an actual German restaurant in Germany, you could get 1/2 to 1/3 this much food...My husband and I both agree we would have preferred wanting more rather than being overstuffed...and NO ONE out of group of 12 people came anywhere near to finishing half their main course. I have been to family style Italian and Greek restaurants and the portions were that large... SO, I would recommend, if you are not out for an award for being a "plate finisher" -- two or THREE people can get by with one entree... If we go again, that is what we would do. read more

Expect to be there for a while as service is very slow and it seems as there is no organization, everyone running around like chickens with no heads. There is a total of 3 servers that work open to close, only 1 ordering station/cash register making things even slower when busy. We had dinner reservation and when we arrived there was a large party and another group of 4 right behind us. To our surprise, these tables were all our poor servers responsibility, including the ones she already had before we got there. She politely greeted us with a smile and said she would return momentarily. She greeted the group of 4 and told them about all the tables she had sit down at the same time and she didn't feel like she could give these folks the dining experience she thought they deserved and was going to find someone less busy to take care of them. She returned with the owner who could have cared less if she had 100 guests come in at once, this is her section and her responsibility. When one of the guys got loud and rude, asked her if he needed to get up and go next door for his dinner, her reply, in front of management was great! "If you think that's what you need to do, go right ahead, because I simply can not take your table and provide you the service YOU deserve" GOOD FOR HER!! She was GREAT, did an awesome job describing dishes and answering our questions and she literally ran her butt off with absolutely NO HELP from anyone. Not 1 lick of teamwork was observed. You don't talk to your employees like that, in front of your customers. She was doing the job of 2 servers all by herself. I was impressed, yet felt bad for her. I really don't see these people lasting in this business until they learn how to properly run a business. Perhaps a class. Not impressed. Not returning. read more

The ONLY reason I give this a 4 and not a 5 is the organization and wait time. The food was amazing, fresh and clearly all homemade. We could hear the chefs pounding the pork for each order! The salads were a unique mix of cucumbers, vinegar based potato salad and slaw. Delicious. We ordered the garlic soup which gets rave reviews but it didn't come out so we decided to scrap it but will definitely go back and try again. We each had different meals which were perfectly prepared and well presented. I believe this restaurant has been open about 2 years so I hope they get some of the kinks worked out so they stay open! It was a Saturday night and the waitress did prepare us for a long wait. We were not in a rush so it was fine. Other guests were frustrated and some left. Food came out at different times (after a long wait), they ran out of items and basically had to tell guests they were not accepting any more orders in the kitchen (which kept me from getting the special dessert I had my eye on for 2 hours). . I couldn't figure out what the issue was...busier than they are used to, staff calling out side CJ or just general disorganization. However, the staff was very nice and as accommodating as they could be. All in, we will go back to enjoy this great gem in our area and I hope you will try it too! read more

It's kind of sad to read the few negative reviews so maybe this will persuade readers to try this place out. First the food is just fantastic. We've been twice and no one has had a bad dish yet. and can't wait to come back again. The garlic soup (which is very new to us) is unbelievable. The schnitzel and all of the different ways it is done is delicious...great spaetzle , a cool interesting salad which is in fact 3 salads in one (potato salad, finely sliced cucumber and cabbage). In fact there is so much food you can usually eat half and take home the other half and do it all over again the next day. The only negative I can really think of is that there is no red cabbage which is one of our faves but we just overlook that. Yes, it can get very busy on the weekend and the wait staff can get a tad overwhelmed but get over it. The beer is over the top and frosty cold and deserts are mouth watering. All in all a great experience with a family friendly type atmosphere. I hope the crowds means they will be here for a long time! read more

We have eaten at the Bavarian Kitchen in Troutman a number of times and it is our favorite go-to restaurant for special occasions and good food. The servings are large and leftovers can be a second dinner at home the next day. I have tried the appetizers and desserts, too...without them you can probably finish the main course and be satisfied. It is all AUTHENTIC Bavarian food, like my Bavarian mother really used to make. I was able to introduce my teenage son to our traditional foods, like landjaeger, schnitzel, spaetzle, rouladen, and many others. We like to try different things. They have now added a deck out back and told me that they plan to serve Gluehwein (hot mulled wine with citrus; a Christmas market staple) during Christmas season! I am already planning to return in December. We love the cheese and sausage appetizers; the soup is good, too. I enjoy the beer (who doesn't?) and often take the strudel dessert home. This is our #1 Favorite restaurant. Good for large groups who can relax and be part of the "Gemuetlichkeit" = feeling of warmth, friendliness and good cheer. I only wish they were open on Sundays, too. A few German quirks (like refills) that they will adapt to / Americanize...don't be afraid to speak up and ask. read more
