The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their entrees. I chose the salmon salad today and the salmon was cooked perfectly medium (like I asked). Usually salmon comes out overcooked for salads. It's really convenient to the Tanger Center. We have it as one of our go tos. Plus: French Dip is made in house, so if they are out it takes hours to get it back ready to serve. Onion soup is always good. The maze plate is good when you don't need a heavy meal. The burgers are great too. Today's chef is on point with them. We have not had a good server or bartender. We love this little place. The food is exceptional, especially for the price. They also have great bartenders and some beer selections that are different than those you commonly find around town. Europa very much feels like a European style bistro and we love it for that. The menu is American but not far from something you might see in travels abroad and the food has always been great for us - especially the fries which are far better than you would expect. Sitting outside is also a pleasure here most days. It's not too sunny and it's not in an especially loud area. Inside the atmosphere is quieter if you're looking for that instead. read more

My friend and I decided to stop here for lunch. We came on a Wednesday afternoon around 12 and we were the first and only customers. The weather was nice so we chose to sit outside. The waitress was friendly but the food took over half an hour to come out, even though there were no other customers. I'm not quite sure why it took them so long to prepare two sandwiches. I ordered the turkey and havarti sandwich (without cheese and bacon) and it was delicious. The croissant was nicely toasted and the fries were the perfect texture. Reviews are relative to what you expect or what you need at the time of consumption. In our case, maybe it was not the right place for lunch. We had a pizza, a French onion soup and an hummus plate. The French onion soup had so many bay leaves that I stopped eating it. I had to spit one out at every bite. The pizza was so hot that the cheese was liquified. The humus was good but ... it's an hummus plate...! Overall, it is airport type of food. The menus were simple paper printouts. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was nice and shaded but the area was not that clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu was pretty limited so we got the French dip and fries and the chicken tomato basil sandwich with Greek pasta salad. The sandwiches tasted ok but lacked flavor and were mostly dry. The fries were overcooked and the pasta salad was dry and bland. It also took a long time to get our order taken and to get our food. We've been coming here for at least 25 years... tonight did not disappoint, although the outlook was bleak at first. They were facing some infrastructure issues and decided to stop seating people due to multiple issues. We were due at Tanger and desperate for their steak and frites. Ps it's amazing and we planned our week around it. The amazing bartender machine that is Joe agreed to serve us at the bar, along with a few other desperate stragglers who ended up outside so he served them while successfully maintaining a full bar. I wish I had remembered to document the amazing meal in photos but it's hard to take pictures while you're snarfing the steak you didn't think you were going to get. My instinct has been to NOT give them a great review because someone might just knock me out of the steak lottery next time but DAMN the entire staff deserve the 5 stars for effort tonight! read more

I think the last time I went there for dinner was pre covid, I'm glad they still around. I decided to grab dinner and drinks last evening g before a show next door. The place was packed inside but the staff was efficient and nice. I had to wait a bit, then ended up seating at the bar to expedite the service. The bartender/ Joe was very polite and kept up w the fast pace of service. I ordered a Caesar salad w grilled chicken because I knew I didn't have much time. Well, right when I was about to cancel my order, Joe brought my plate. He also offered to put my dinner in the fridge so that I could finish dinner after the show. He was very patient as I expressed I was feeling anxious and afraid of being late to the candlelight show. Anyhow, I came back afterwards and he thanked me for being understanding and patient. This is a small and cozy bar right in the middle of downtown, next to Lebauer Park..they have a good outdoor space for seating with heaters. We went there on a Sunday night and it was not very crowded. The beers menu is pretty limited, but they have good cocktails. We ordered garlic lime shrimp and mezze plate for appetizers and they were decent. For main course, we tried the gyro sandwich, chicken tomato basil sandwich, and Europa burger; and no one was disappointed with them.Especially the Europa burger was very well made and the beef patty was juicy and tasteful. One of my favorite local restaurants in Greensboro. The food is always delicious, and I love the atmosphere of this kind of French inspired bistro. They reduced their menu since reopening post COVID shutdowns, a few things I liked are gone but luckily my top staples remained. Highly recommend the Europa Crab Dip for an appetizer, Ensalada del Mar with tuna for a yummy and filling salad, the Chicken Tomato Basil sandwich, and basically all the Mussels! I love their mussels. They used to have a Tuesday night special where you get $1 off mussels and a included beer or glass of wine. The best deal in Greensboro. I hope that comes back some day but happy to keep ordering their mussels stand alone in the meantime. I know many are weary of mussels, but seriously give them a try here. You will become a convert like me. You get such a huge serving for a very reasonable cost. I like things a little spicy so my go-to is the Mussels-Fra Diavlo (white wine, garlic, marinara, red pepper flakes) with choice of baguette or fries. You can also swap for a side salad for a slight upcharge. Such a tasty dish, and overall healthy. I typically go for the baguette as it can sop up all the leftover sauce. Their baguette has changed since COVID, but in a just as good way, I would say it's flakier now-not complaining. They also have a really nice patio that I enjoyed on my last visit. It has a pretty fountain, with views of the park. Tables are nicely spread out and staff was masked up. The weather was very nice, so we enjoyed a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc wine as well. They also have heaters, so people can still feel safer and enjoy this Greensboro gem outside comfortably as its getting colder. read more

One of my favorite outdoor patios in Greensboro resides at Cafe Europa. It's absolutely perfect on a fall day like today with lots of sunshine, a light breeze and the sound of the fountain adds a nice ambiance. I used to be regularly drawn to Europa on Tuesdays when they offered a great deal of an order of mussels and either a house wine or draft beer for $9! Even without the deal their mussels are my usual go-to. The green curry is my favorite with the Fra Diavlo being a close second. I will say the Fra Diavlo has changed from how I remember it namely that it's not as spicy as it used to be. I didn't see any red pepper flakes when I ordered it today. It's still quite tasty although I do miss the heat. I do miss the Catalina flavor they used to have! Another thing that's changed since my last patronage is their baguette. I will say the new baguette is much better than what they used to have. It's so light and fluffy on the inside with a perfect toasty crunch on the outside. One of the best low key, speakeasy places in Greensboro! They have a beautiful patio that has a nice fountain in the center. One of our favorite places to go when we are in the mood to order a bunch of appetizers or finger foods and sit outside. I've long been unimpressed with Europa, but a recent visit merits a reappraisal. My wife and I stopped by to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it was a significantly better experience than past visits to this establishment. Timing made a big difference. I'd previously hit Europa when it was busy, and it was chaotic and boisterous. While this will never be a quiet spot, it's significantly more comfortable when its closer to empty than full. Along the same lines, service is much improved during quieter times. Our server handled our group of seven with ease, and the kitchen had no trouble getting food out promptly. As for the food, there were more hits than misses. An order of garlic lime shrimp was phenomenal. Heavily garlicky, it called to mind an especially good scampi minus the pasta, and the accompanying baguette was perfect for mopping up sauce. The French onion soup was a solid rendition. However, Europa still can't get frites right: those found in their poutine were limp. Thankfully, the rich mushroom gravy rescued the dish. I would still steer clear of this place during peak hours, but Europa can actually deliver an all-around enjoyable meal when it isn't slammed. read more

At first sight it looks like a really cool restaurant located in the Greensboro Cultural Center in downtown Greensboro with plenty of outside seating. What you don't know is that The Community Theatre of Greensboro's The Wizard of Oz has been cast at that site year after year after year. If only the walls could talk!! After all the auditions and callbacks on the 4th floor of the Greensboro Cultural Center, it is a tradition that the production staff head downstairs, order some food and decide the fate of some 200 auditionees. People don't understand how difficult casting is. She has the perfect voice for Dorothy but she's 35. He is great for the Scarecrow but he has 2 weeks of conflicts in the middle of rehearsals. She's great for the Wicked Witch but is afraid of heights so refuses to fly. He's awesome for the Cowardly Lion but is also auditioning for something else and not sure which role he wants to accept if cast. She's great for Aunt Em and is 60 but the guy who's perfect for Uncle Henry is 35. He would be great as the Tin Man if only he could sing. She would be great as Glinda except she will only do it if her daughter gets in and the daughter did not audition well. Get the picture? Every casting session at Europa involves lots of refills of diet coke, lots of privacy and lots of french onion soup! There was the time a parent was not happy that I did not cast her child and called for a big meeting at Europa between me and the board as I had to justify why this child did not get cast. Ridiculous! There was a time a parent met me at Europa and offered to sponsor our organization for $10,000 if I cast their child as Dorothy. Unfortunately, that's not the way I roll and had to say no. They never spoke to me again. I ordered a big dessert after that meeting! There was the time I had to meet a Wicked Witch at Europa and tell her that it was not working out with her and that I would need to replace her. It was painful and we both cried but she thanked me later for she knew she would not be able to pull it off. That was done over fried calamari. There are literally dozens of children that we want so very much to cast each year but we just cannot accommodate so many people in our production as large as the cast is. We have fretted over that every year and drowned our sorrow in a Europa Burger with tons of fries!! But in the end, and overall, Europa Bar and Cafe has been a phenomenal gathering site for the cast and staff of the Community Theatre of Greensboro for years and years. They are always accommodating, always happy to see us and we never feel rushed as we deliberate for hours and hours over who is in and who is out. The place is very appealing with lots of glass, and is very convenient to anything you might be visiting downtown, and now with the Tanger Center literally a block away, Europa is even more appealing than ever. Even before covid hit, it was a favorite downtown eatery to dine outside and their outside offering is appreciated now more than ever. An ex-tenant of mine used to work at the bar and would always make sure I had plenty of diet Coke when casting. I miss him!! lol I tend to be a creature of habit, so I cannot say that I have eaten everything on their menu but I have always loved their chicken tomato basil sandwich, their cobb salad, ensalada del mar and continue to love their mussels. The mussels are absolutely delicious served in different styles as a hearty portion with fries or a baguette. My favorite is the Mussels Fra Diavlo. I if I want to be really good on Weight Watchers, I will upgrade to a salad and that entire meal is 0 points. I think there is a mussel special midweek and a wine special as well, so check it out. The food is really good, the price is right and the atmosphere is very welcoming and comfortable. This spot was a pioneer in downtown when no one else was opening up restaurants, so I take my hat off to them! What a wonderful feeling whenever I wrap up a meal at Europa knowing that a hundred happy volunteers in Greensboro have now been cast in our annual production of The Wizard of Oz and will not only bring joy to our community but the show will bring so much joy into their lives and to the lives of their family and friends. So now you know a little bit of what goes on behind the scenes at CTG and where the inner sanctum of theatre casting takes place. This spot is perfectly located in downtown. The restaurant is right next to a park where you can enjoy nice scenic views of nature and also see families enjoying themselves at the splash pad. My family and I walked into their outdoor seating area and were greeted by the hostess. The vibe was chill and the hostess was laid back. Someone I was with needed to charge their phone and she went out of her way to accomadate them which we all appreciated. The food was delicious and so were the drinks. I had my 1st Bloody Mary there and it was so good that I ordered another. The shrimp and grits were tasty. Everyone who I was with enjoyed their food. We all wished that we came earlier in our trip so that we could've known how good the food was...we would've came back on more than one occasion had we known better. 2 visits here in one day !...Pre theater drinks and apps on their outdoor patio was great, right next to where we needed to be this was the perfect location. Had the Prosecco , ordered the charcuterie board and truffle fries. One of our friends got the Smithwicks ale. Busy patio on nice Friday evening. The board was supposed to have 3 cheeses, but only came with two , kinda disappointed they didn't replace it with something else as they were out of the blue cheese. Alot of meat on here, so not great if your a vegetarian! Not the best board I've had ...just ok. The fries were shoestring which I hadn't had in ages so they were awesome. Nice and crunchy. If you get the split Prosecco make sure you read the back of the label... Then back after the play in the park, pouring rain, so had to go in and they thankfully accommodated us. Their menu looked awesome great choices. I got the Cotes du Rhône , friends got the Pinot noir and the Rosé. Ordered the Mezze plate, which comes with, hummus, tzatziki, cucumber tomato salad, and grilled pita bread. Loved the pita and tzatziki. Great app! Known for their mussels here, which sounded great but the special sounded really good so we went with that. Seared Ahi tuna with cilantro lime rice and sautéed bok choy and tomatoes . Tuna was perfect and rare. The rice good and the bok choy sauté was great. Loved this dish. Others on the table got the mussels Italiano , in a white wine sauce with garlic, tomatoes, butter basil and parsley. Served with a baguette or fries, I suggest the baguette to sop up the sauce! I tried this and it was delicious, loved the sauce, nice and garlicy . Bargain at $12 , you get a lot. Also the pepperoni pizza and margherita pizza, both described as yum...and not a crust left in the plate., Dessert was the key lime pie....thick crust, and the pie was not too tart, nice and limey! Loved this too. Great dessert. Honestly I thought the service was kinda slow, I think only two servers were working. So it all took awhile. My family met with some friends for lunch at this quaint dinner, located adjacent to the Greensboro Cultural Center, for lunch. The interior and ambiance of the restaurant were very welcoming. It was a great place to sit and socialize. I'll break down my 3-star rating here. Pros: - Great ambiance, comfortable seating. - Good service. - Nice selection of drafts (can't go wrong with Red Oak Amber) - A diverse menu inspired by pan-European cuisine. - Shoestring fries were good. - My daughter's cheeseburger was pretty good. Cons: - Asked for a medium-rare steak, got a steak with barely any sear and blue-rare in the middle. I still ate it. Cabernet butter was a good accompaniment. - Steak was very fatty, had to trim a good deal of fat off. This is a great place to meet with friends, despite my let-down on the steak. Came to Europa for brunch and pleased they are surviving Covid by serving great food with a smile. Most places are short on staff and they are no exception . They managed to serve excellent food & drinks and appreciate customers . I had the omelet of the day with Asian sausage, spinach and tomatoes , the sausage was flavorful and good. The hash brown potatoes are the best as they are fried cubes of potatoes and fluffy on the inside with cooked onions on top. Very good and cooked perfectly. I ate and forgot pics . The atmosphere and vibe is always relaxing and upbeat. I had a special made to order Irish Coffee which made it "Brunch" not just breakfast. This is one of my favorite patios to eat at! I love the vibe and having lebauer park right next to it! However, they are struggling due to a lack of employees. I went on a Sunday night around 7:15 and our food was not brought out until 8:50. Most of our drink orders were incorrect and we were only able to order one drink during that time span. There was only one waitress serving the totally packed restaurant, along with her manager who was helping out some. Our food was just average. We still really enjoyed the French onion soup. My wife and I tried this place for lunch today before a show. Ridiculously slow service. Took 20+ minutes for a bowl of French onion soup to be served. Then took another 15 minutes for salad and French dip sandwich to be served. All the food, including soup, was bland and tasteless. It's like no one uses seasonings. Even the salad with grilled chicken was bland. Food plus one beer was almost $50!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Only thing good about this place is the outdoor seating area. Used to patronize this lovely spot every Wednesday once upon a time when I was single (actually had my bachelorette here) and was happy to have opportunity to drop in for drinks before a show on a Friday night. The place was popping and we were able to grab the last spot inside in the back corner...bar and outside were full. Despite the incredibly busy night and apparent ass backwards scheduling of sections (the poor servers had tables all over the place outside and inside), we still received great service, albeit slightly slow because of the circumstances. I tried a new wine (Riesling) and, as always, their wine selections were on point. I think they have one of the best patios in Greensboro and I am glad to see them thriving. Didn't eat this time but food has always been stellar in the past. Hopefully management will do servers a solid and create a more efficient plan for service. read more

I never thought I would be writing a less than stellar review of my beloved Europa, but here we are. It has been one of my all time favorite spots in Greensboro, the ambiance, the beautiful patio, etc. However, since the new ownership, it has absolutely changed for the worse. The menu is tiny, and never changes. They dropped the wonderful wedge salad off the menu long ago, and even the mussels that Europa is known for are limited. Once I came for lunch, and the mussels Normandy was not available. The worst part is, no more Sunday brunch. We kept checking back every Sunday , and no brunch, on the most beautiful, visible patio downtown. My guess is the business has picked up so much with the new Tanger Center Shows, they don't need to do brunch anymore. I understood restaurants needing a break, but Sunday brunch at Europa with mussels and a Bloody Mary was pretty much a tradition around here. I know the new owner must be working very hard, but he's not as friendly as the old owner was. It seems like that has changed the atmosphere at Europa. It's unfortunate for sure. My best friend and I decided to try out this restaurant because it was highly rated by the go-to Greensboro Instagram page.. upon answering the restaurant we were greeted. We asked if we could sit outside on the patio area. The bartender brought us our menu and I asked if they had any cocktails available outside of the wine list. Bartender informed us that they didn't have a cocktail list but that she can make drinks and if anything Google could help her.. Now I'm very particular about my drinks and my food. Personally, I would have probably kept that Google part of the information to myself..... So I kept it super basic and ordered a bloody Mary. They only had one type of rum available for the pineapple rum that my best friend ordered. Price points were really good considering that mussels tend to be a little more expensive in other places. I ordered the mussels in the white wine sauce with mushroom and bacon. Our Server informed me that baguettes were unavailable. So I chose the fries. Now, Presentation is everything to me and I'm not sure why anybody would pour the fries on top of the mussels. My fries were soaking in the wine sauce. It was a visually disturbing presentation. In my opinion. The food was good. The fries on the other hand I wasn't a fan girling. The atmosphere is definitely very nice. The patio is very nice. Service overall I feel was very subpar as well as the food presentation. The waitress/ bartender was sweet but not knowledgeable in drinks. This is definitely a one and done type of deal for me at this place. I had somebody who respects my opinion. Ask me yesterday if they would come here and I basically told them I would choose somewhere else first. read more

So after nearly 6 years in Greensboro (and nearly 7 since my first trip to visit), finally made it to Cafe Europa...twice in 4 days. A special UNCG music program was being held next door at the Greensboro Cultural Center. My son and I wanted to grab a dessert. After seeing a line with more people than live in the city at Cheesecakes by Alex, we walked back to Cafe Europa. We got inside only to find their kitchen was closed due to some equipment malfunctions. But lo, and behold, Joe, the bartender/waiter/de facto manager when the owner is out, offered 3 dessert options - 2 with nuts - a non-start for my allergic son, and the last one "I could whip up a creme brulee," one of my son's absolute favorites! Well, I had a nice beer on tap at Joe's recommendation and my son a coffee and creme brulee (I helped a little). It was that extra effort and a saved evening that really made it great! A few nights later we went to see Harold Lloyd's masterpiece, "Safety Last," at the Carolina Theater with a full-on pipe organ accompaniment. I will write the theater up later. After that fantastic show, my son and his friend were peckish. So we drove over to Europa, parked in front of LeBauer park, and headed in. I wasn't sure what I wanted but it was Tuesday and mussels with baguette or frites and a choice of wine or beer was $10!!! Well he shared the creme brulee with his friend and 2 decaf coffees. I had the mussels and a Belgian style white beer. What a perfect prep in fra diablo sauce. The price was amazing and the service from Joe, and his fiancee Jess, were outstanding. Best fries in Greensboro! My go to is the turkey havarti croissant sandwich. Nice patio, friendly service.

This place is somewhat different than I had imagined it. It is charmingly funky, a little small, with as much seating outside as in. It is part neighborohood bar, part coffee house, part bistro, part wine bar. The patio is nicely done, and obviously popular. The inside has room for a small bar area, and maybe 12 to 15 tables. The ambience reminds me of a combination of the original setups of two venerable, local restaurants - the departed Sunset Cafe & the remade Southern Lights - each better where thay started than where they ended up. The menu here is not broad, and not all the items on the online menu are offered everyday, or even on a regularly scheduled basis - the Prime Rib entree and the Potato Cake app, for example - my very intended choices. Not sure how you are to know when they will have Prime Rib - maybe it is one of those Tweet things They have daily specials, a Cuban Sandwich, several pizza choices, mussels, a French Bar Steak, Beef Bourguignon, a Cafe Burger, Spanakopita, and Steak & Frites. The daily special on Monday is Lamb Stew (cooked in a white wine sauce. or rather gravy), and since it was Monday, and I felt the need to be special, I tried it. Out-Damn-Standing. The stew is rich in flavor, the vegetables are cooked well, but not to the point of mush - they had residual texture with great flavor. It was served with a very nice, crunchy baguette - you can dip it all day in the stew and its thick, brown gravy - perfect. The baguette was accompanied by two tin-foil wrapped pats of European style butter - another nice touch. The other entree we tried was Mussels Fra Diavlo. These were nice and creamy, with a very, very nice layer of heat that built throughout. We also tried the House Salad with a nice Blue Cheese dressing. The candied walnuts and the roasted red peppers were a good fit. The wine list is relatively small, and very well may be the least expensive overall of any restaurant in Greensboro not offering Boone's Farm as a vino choice. Seems like the most expensive was $27, and it was a nice choice actually. Wine is half priced on Wednesday, and it can be a bit of a zo - wait staff confirmed.. This is a neat, fun place for a laid back dinner, al fresco or otherwise. It definitely has the properties to be quite noisy when crowded, so I would not consider it for a special destination place, but it can be enjoyable. The wait staff is attentive and knowledgable. For what it offers, it is one of the best in the downtown area, and without the attendant parking considerations. read more

We went to Europa Cafe last night for drinks and dinner before the show at Tanger. We ordered a drink at the bar, service was prompt and friendly. Due to its proximity to Tanger, we decided to take advantage of the 1/2 price wine and eat dinner at Europa Cafe as well. We cancelled our other dinner reservations..big mistake. Once we were seated, our dinner service was sporadic at best. I am not sure if we had an actual waitress or if the hostess was doing double duty. We had to keep finding her to order water, glass of wine etc. Regardless, they ran out of the wine we were drinking, ran out of our first meal choice of steak and frites..all by 6:00pm. We are ordered 2 turkey sandwiches and a chicken sandwich by 6:05. After once again tracking down our server at 6:30 to check on the status of our meal, we were told the kitchen had not started on the order. We left at 6:40 without eating dinner. A Girls Night Out ended up consisting of eating pretzels while watching the show at Tanger. Not good..don't recommend, especially before a show at Tanger. Also, tables in restaurant were not full, so it wasn't that they were overwhelmed with crowd. read more

Europa Bar & Cafe is a great hangout spot beside LeBauer Park in downtown Greensboro. Great outdoor patio with string lighting and fountain. Went on a Wednesday for #WineWednesday deal. They do half off all wine-including wine by the glass & bottle! Lots of wine options and reasonably priced. Food menu is hard to find online. Their website is outdated, so I had no idea what to expect. However, was pleasantly surprised by the variety of menu options-from salads and sandwiches to nicer entrees like steak and schnitzel. I got the side Caesar salad and the garlic shrimp appetizer. The salad was good- not heavy on the dressing. The shrimp was really buttery and garlicy. It also came with a decent size warm baguette, which is great for sharing. My friend got the steak frites. The fries are shoestring and AMAZING! She said steak was average. Overall, would come back here primarily for the atmosphere and amazing wine deal! read more
