We were able to make a quick appointment while we had family in town to get estimates for a variety of systems. Bill talked through some basics with my FIL and then had a quick phone call with me. Naturally, at the peak of a heat wave, my AC died and instead of cooling my home, it wound up circulating hot air to the point where the indoor temp was higher than the outdoor temp. BACC was quick to respond within Yelp and phone to schedule an appointment within a few days. 2022 update: I had another HVAC company do an attic and crawlspace insulation estimate ( I would have used Bay Area Climate Control but they're not part of the BayREN rebate program), and this other company told me one of the ducts installed by Bay Area Climate Control back in 2015 had been destroyed by rats and I needed to replace it ASAP.  I wanted to get an estimate for the fix from Bay Area Climate Control so James came out; He quickly diagnosed the issue (or in this case the lack of issues) - the ducts looked fine and he showed me pictures. At last they said they didn't want to do the job after wasting us more than 2 months of waiting! At least we could get back the deposit... Bay Area Climate Control is one of the best businesses I have ever dealt with -- in any field. Ryan and crew installed my HVAC system 2 years ago, came back as many times as needed to fully instruct me in how to operate the complicated programming both on wall thermostats and remote controls. It has worked perfectly ever since...until this winter, when it seemed a little unresponsive and was heating inadequately. Brilliantly, I waited until it was completely broken during a cold snap over Christmas before I finally called, crying "Help!!!" Ryan returned my call on Christmas morning within an hour, and when I described what was going on, he walked me through some trouble shooting, and got the heater limping along temporarily. The office was closed the day after Christmas, and Ryan was going to send a tech when they opened again. But that night it shut down completely, and in the morning I called and declared it an emergency, because of the cold snap. Even though the office was still closed for the Christmas holiday, Ryan came to my house within two hours of my call, and figured out why both of my heaters had quit at the same time. The problem was simple: dirty filters. He cleaned the filters on both units, reset my heating programs, and refused to take a dime! No charge! He just didn't want me spending another day and night in a cold house. I have never had an experience as efficient, courteous, and just plain old school: taking pride in running a business well and doing superb work. This review is long overdue since they came out in May to help us with our A/C mini splits that weren't blowing cold air. We would have been absolutely sweltering now without the A/C working in the recent heat wave. They worked super fast to refill the coolant and fix a small leak and made sure everything was working. They also thoughtfully wrapped the hoses in UV resistant tape to prevent future sun damage. Very thorough. This was a system we had inherited from the previous owners, so we didn't even realize it was still under warranty, but they covered it all. Big kudos for that. read more

ABC Cooling VS. Climate Control Heating In December I called ABC Cooling and heating to come and assess why only half my house was heating up. For a fee they came by and told me I had two broken ducts. The heating guy said they would schedule someone else to come by and give me a quote to fix them. A few days later another guy comes by and gives me a quote stating even though I have two broken ducts all of them needed to be replaced because my ducking is old and they don't make the parts for my ducts anymore. I asked how much would that be along with why I had to replace all of them. He stated it would be $475 a duct and I have 10 ducts so approximately $4750. I stated that $475 a duct seemed kind of high since I have another home which is about an hour away and I had to replace all the ducking in that house (earlier that year) and they charged me $250 a duct. He asked where it was and stated labor is much higher in the bay area and $475/duct is pretty much a standard rate. I went on to ask if he could just some how patch the two broken ducts because I did not want to spend the money to replace all of them. He went on to tell me that my house is old (built in 1979) and they no longer make those ducts and he would not have replacement parts for that and the only way to restore my heating throughout the house is to replace them all. He wrote me a quote of $4750 (which I have uploaded a copy onto yelp) and I told him I had to think about it. About two months later, I could not stand the lack of heat in my house and called around to get other quotes from heating companies. I called Climate Control Heating and asked the guy how much does it cost to replace a duct and he stated to me between $225 - $250 depending how long the duct needs to be. I made an appointment for someone to come out to replace two ducts. He stated to me that he his company had to do an inspection of their own before they just replace the duct. I asked him how much that would be and he said he would not charge me for that. That was great! The guy came out and inspected my place and said I did have two broken ducts but because the ducts were underneath the house it may require some digging in the narrow area of my house but he said he can replace the two ducts and quoted me a cost between $400 - $600 due to the location of the ducts and the extra work that may be required to dig. Needless to say, I hired him to do the work and while doing it he found a 3rd broken duct and charged me $650 instead of $600 and I was completely fine with that. He didn't try and sell me on some expensive package or (what I felt like the other company did) try and take advantage of me being a woman and quoting me SOME RIDICULOUS PRICE! I couldn't believe that ABC Cooling wanted to charge me $4750 for a job and told me there was no way they could just replace 2 ducts and all 10 ducts had to be done. When I got the next quote from Climate Control (I also have uploaded a copy of my final bill) he quoted me only what needed to be done and wow what a surprise they had parts that fit for my so called old house. And my heating works GREAT!!! Shame on you ABC Cooling! read more

Just had a tune-up appointment with Bruce. Our PG&E bill has been astronomical this weekend and we decided to see if it was a matter of our furnace being on the fritz so we called Bay Area Climate Control to come take a look and give it a tune-up. When Bruce arrived, he came in with a warm smile and handshake, ignoring my two annoying dogs barking up a storm at him. Before we went up to the attic where the furnace was, he noticed that our filters needed changing and made a note to do that after he was done with the inspection. We were of the mind that our furnace needed to be switched out, but after he was done, Bruce candidly said that our furnace was in fine shape and it did not need replacing. He did not try to up-sell me, and said that while our furnace was old, it was still good and we should only replace it if we just wanted new hardware. He said all this while playing with my dogs who were now his new best friends. At the end of the appointment, he replaced our two air filters (which was included in the price of the tune-up). I'd say I'd work with Bay Area Climate Control again, but I already am, we've already set an appointment for them to come back to give us an estimate on A/C installation for the upcoming hot summer months. read more

Search a chirping last evening and all night. I changed all smoke detector batteries and still hear chirping. I heard the noise near the air conditioning furnace register and thought it was the air conditioning unit that was installed last year. Called Bay Area Climate Control and they sent Nick. Nick was in my home one minute before he spotted the carbon dioxide unit on the wall near the chirping. He said you need a new battery. I had overlooked this unit on the as I was focused on the ceiling. The reviews were right. This company and Nick is the best. He did not even charge for the service fee. They were able to remotely guide me to fix a wiring problem with my new Mitsubishi heat pump that the original installer, who claimed had expertise in these systems, but clearly did not, could not fix after hours of talking with factory representatives. read more

My Nest thermostat went blank. It wasn't getting power, and when I charged it, the error light indicated the RC lead had no power. Another company came out and replaced a fuse for $200. The Nest again went blank a week later. I checked the fuse, and the same repairman came back out and got it to come back on somehow, then claimed it would be too expensive to troubleshoot the root cause, so it would be best to replace the heater and air conditioning with a new $14,000 system. I was reluctant to replace the system without knowing the problem. I got the same RC error on the Nest thermostat today. I called Bay Area Climate Control, and they sent someone to my house within 30 minutes. Within an hour the BACC repairman found that the switch box that holds the fuse was faulty. After a thorough inspection, he also found some other troubles--such as a failing capacitor in the AC. He replaced the box and fixed the other problems. Replacing the system would not have fixed the fuse box problem. I am glad I got a second opinion that saved me $14,000. read more

My AC broke down on one of the hottest days this year. We first went to ABC cooling since they initially installed our AC. We were told it would cost almost $5000 bucks to replace the unit (and install some new coils). I checked out Yelp and heard about Climate Control Cooling (Thank You LinLin L!) Last November after battling with our furnace for the past 4 years we had Ryan (the owner) from Bay Area Climate Control come out and give us a quote for replacing our 20 year old furnace and air conditioner. He was on time and masked up per the Covid guidelines at the time. Ryan was very knowledgeable and professional. He clearly explained all our options, installation and the permitting process and answered all our questions. He was very courteous, straightforward and as a salesperson, was not pushy at all. His quote was competitive and after making some adjustments in the job scope and price we decided to proceed with Bay Area Climate Control. Two employees did the installation. They arrived on time and were very professional. Our small home, with the in closet furnace, presented a challenge with the installation of the filter box. The crew finished the installation as best they could but were unable to successfully install the filter box. We contacted Ryan with the details of the filter box and he stopped by to assess the situation. Ryan made some phone calls and found a solution utilizing smaller coils that would allow the filter box to be installed. After receiving the parts, Ryan came and performed the coil/filter box installation himself. He did a great job personally insuring the right parts were used and the job was completed to the agreed upon specs. We also had issues getting the permits from our city due to the Covid pandemic and everyone working remotely which of course caused delays. I was in the market for a Mitsubishi mini-split ductless AC and heat installation. I spoke with about five HVAC contractors. Several were not familiar with mini-splits and a couple offered unrealistic estimates before I called Bay Area Climate. Bill came out to estimate and I could tell immediately that he knew his stuff so I made an appointment to install. Do to the pandemic, I decided to postpone the January date. Brenda was very helpful in arranging a schedule change. The installers, Derek and Antonio, showed up as scheduled and completed the install in the estimated four days. I got a Brand New AC and heater system after reading the wonderful reviews. Infact we went with a big system throwing our currently working system thinking the new one would be more efficient and better. I was very much surprised to see the level of service. Initially after the system was installed the AC did not blow cold air. When I called them they sent someone and said its an issue with some settings which are not corrected. We believed and waited few more days and tried again to find not much cooling. Again when we called they said the owner needs to look at it. Almost after 3 months we saw the owner by when the climate changed. Again we were ok with it. The owner came and said a technician will come and go down and check all the wiring and ducts. I am now waiting from last 5 months and even after multiple calling thier support line our problem still remains the same. Infact our older system atleast performed unlike the current one. Dont get convinced by the sweet talks. We are almost close to our warranty period with no satisfactory solution to our issues. Worst of all we were told the house will not cool if it is 100 outside. Of course no one told me that when selling it to me?? Also if I cant use the AC on days when it is 100 what is the use of that system?? read more

I hired them to add AC to our existing furnace system. They offered a very competitive bid and I hired them. The AC was installed on a mid winter Friday during the pandemic (supply chain delays, etc.) and that night the furnace quit working. I left a message expecting to be without heat for the weekend, but the owner, Ryan, called me first thing Saturday morning and came by to assess the problem. It turned out to be a faulty thermostat which he coached me through replacement. Fast forward a year or more ... my furnace blower started having problems and when I searched up service companies, they came back to the top of the list. Nick came out and quickly diagnosed the issue which aligned with the diagnosis of the first company I paid. There are reasons that companies receive Diamond Certified status. I met one of those reasons a couple of days ago. It took Charles all of 5 minutes to accurately diagnose the issue with my furnace. (5 minutes because the unit is in the crawl space under the house) Several days prior I had another company look at the furnace & their technician thought he had resolved the issue by resetting the switch on a temp sensor without further testing.
