    Crab cakes and poutine

3.5 stars... I have been eating here on and off for 20 years, used to be great, maybe my taste has changed... the wait staff was great, younger kids... I ordered the fish chowder, celery was in big hunks and very raw, the chowder was thin, more like a bisque and there fish was some nice big hunks of fish in it... the crabby patty's were not fried long enough and were quite mushy while the dipping sauce was nice... my wife suggested we get the poutine (which we try everywhere quite frequently as we travel a lot) and something put me off about it, the hand cut French fries were undercooks and some fries were still quite raw and inedible, maybe it was the oil they were fried in? Or maybe it was something off in the gravy but it didn't taste right like something was spoiled or off in them... it was a Large bowl with cheese and gravy which we did not finish... Over all I would like it to be like I remember it over the years, but it was just ok, the fish chowder was the best part of what we ordered. Overall, 3.5 stars.

We love the service there. They were a little longer on our clam cakes so they bought us new ones and an extra one.. I had the seafood Alfredo. It was fantastic. I had to bring half of it home. My fiancé had the fisherman's platter and it was more food than we could imagine. Definitely worth the money even though it's a little pricey you get what you pay for.

Scallops, burger, fries and rings. All a hit.

Friends invited me to lunch here, last week. I've never spent a lot of time in the area and hadn't heard about the place previously. 8 of us went - 5 adults and 3 kids. We made a reservation and our table was ready when we arrived. I had the shrimp dinner, my daughter got scallops. Both were very good. My granddaughter opted for the hamburger dinner with onion rings and was shocked at how big it was. We all had food left over - which we brought home with us - so portions are generous. Comfortable, really laid back environment. Nothing fancy at all but that's just what we were looking for, and we didn't feel rushed at all. The waitress was friendly and efficient - she even took a picture of the motley crew once we finished eating. The whoopie pies looked good but I didn't have enough room left to try one. Maybe next time.

We visited Bay Haven for seafood, we always wish it was like it was in the old days. When we walked in the hostess just looked at us, no smile, no expression. She walked over to us and asked how many and if we wanted to sit in the restaurant or tavern. We chose the restaurant. Off we went to a table menus down and that was it. We all looked at each other and said maybe we should of drove to the other restaurant. Our waitress came over and took our order. She brought us rolls, butter and cole slaw. The rolls were in the microwave a little to long. Hot and rubbery. The butter was good! We all just laughed. I must say our fish dinners were very good. We did order dessert and the coconut cream pie was excellent. We will be back. But sadly, Bay Haven won't be our first choice. It is so true the first person you meet at any business really does matter.

You want to support a family owned business then head over to Bay Haven in little ol' Cornish. We started with the onion rings (no photo) that were superb. Then moved on to the clam chowder along with the steamers, fried clams & Chicken bacon ranch sub. Everything was absolutely amazing! Others in our group got the lobster stew, fish n chips, fried scallops & lobster casserole. Anything on the menu will not disappoint. Now let's mention Brooke our absolutely amazing waitress. She did not skip a beat & remembered every little thing our group of 11 orders without blinking an eye. Highly recommend & ask for Brooke

Very very disapointed in my experience at Bay Haven. We ordered takeout..the young woman at the counter said the wait was over an hour...I said fine no problem. ..we ordred 2 entrees 1. Haddock and scaollops w/ fries and slaw. 2. Fish & chips,. add onion rings. Well we got the haddock (fillet) and scallops, 2 oz cup of slaw and fish chunks and onion rings. The chips and tarter sauce did not make it. No tarter sauce, no lemon, just threw into a box. The fish was overcooked and not seasoned. The fries not seasoned. Scallops were decent as well as the slaw. $80 and I feel robbed and disaponted. Would I go back? No.

I had the ribeye and it was thin and not very tender. Two of my group had the filet and they thought it was good, but my wife's special leg of lamb was uninspiring. The wine we had was great except we paid $145 for a bottle that retails for $35 and there were not a lot of other good choices. But I could live with it if the meal was awesome, instead of 50/50. It's a steak restaurant. I don't expect any bargains but when every steak is $45 or more, they need to deliver. You cannot be hit or miss for $150 per person not including the wine. The kitchen needs to step it up. I want this to be my favorite restaurant in the area but they are falling short of the mark. If they want to charge that much for a meal, then they have to nail it.

It truly feels like an olden New England house and barn and it's all quite charming. We had a reservation which was hard to get so be prepared to be flexible with when you go; otherwise, you will have to go to the pub side instead of the dining room. We arrived a bit early but had to wait 10-15 minutes past our reservation time. The hostess was kind enough to fetch our cocktail order so we could get to it! Enjoy some interesting cocktails, like the Skip and Go Naked which comes with an honorary pin! We had a lovely table and a great meal: the prime rib was cooked perfectly, the salmon was good and the haddock was good. Backing up a course, though, I must say that our entire table enjoyed the calamari with banana peppers so much! It was well flavored. The bread was... unique! And good. We also had a few types of oysters at the table and those were enjoyed. Dessert was great as we opted for the recommended Denver pudding. And an espresso martini!

After driving 40 minutes we arrived 10 minutes early as they don't open until 430; no problem ,they saw us in the parking lot and waved us in. Unusual as most places guard the door to the second. They sat us immediately, and introduced us to our server Alyssa ,who turned out to be the most knowledgeable , professional person we have ever met. And we have been dining out and working in the industry for many years! The fun began; my wife ordered her Filet Mignon and I asked Alyssa what she recommended , shocking me she said The Skirt Steak with marbled potatoes with the empanadas as an appetizer. I was certain she would have said the Porterhouse or Tomahawk to upsell us but she was spot on as it was incredibly tender and flavorful . In summary it was the most delightful fine dining experience we have ever enjoyed! Thank you Alyssa and your incredible chefs and fellow servers for unforgettable 56 anniversary dinner!

We wanted to try a little bit of everything, so decided on the mixed grill for 2, with mashed potatoes and fires on the side. We started with the focaccia bread and oil dressing that were very good. We also got the enchiladas, one spicy cheese and the other beef. These were okay, nothing crazy but enjoyable. However, the mixed grill was simply not worth the money. The sausage was over cooked, strip steak flavorless and the long short ribs were tough. The chicken was okay, but nothing better than anywhere else I've had grilled chicken before. Our waitress Jennifer was amazing. And when she asked how our experience was, she could see by the lack of food we had eaten, and the expression on my face, we were not impressed. We ended our meal with the tres leches cake that was very good. Overall, this place is a gimmicky tourist trap that over charges for their "atmosphere" and prays you get drunk off their $250 wine before you order. I thought for sure it would be decent, and was wrong. I would hate to see the quality in peak tourist season. Leaving hungry was not something I imagined.

Classic dark steakhouse/grill room atmosphere, open kitchen, good energy, friendly people. Unfortunately, the food execution did not match the appearance or pricing. Our waitress was very nice and genuinely trying, but it was her first night after only a couple hours of training, which showed. To the restaurant's credit, the manager/supervisor was sharp, knowledgeable, and handled questions immediately. The biggest miss was the "Steak & Cheese" appetizer described as: "Beef Carpaccio, Fried Goat Cheese, Greens, Fried Capers, Red Onion, Aioli" What arrived was essentially a large salad topped with thick-cut beef and heavy dressing. I actually had to dig underneath the greens to find the fried goat cheese. Once I found it, the goat cheese itself was excellent. The "carpaccio," however, was not carpaccio in any recognizable form. Thick slices of beef covered in dressing completely missed the point of the dish. I love both carpaccio and fried goat cheese, so this should have been an easy win. I also found the steak menu surprisingly limited for a place presenting itself as a serious grill room. No New York strip, only a "NY Sirloin," plus essentially a ribeye and hanger steak option. Oddly, for Portland, Maine, there was also no lobster on the menu. I ordered the hanger steak entree with fries. The fries were excellent. The hanger steak itself was average at best, especially at the price point. Overall, the restaurant has atmosphere and potential, but the food felt more style than substance. For me, about a 3/5 experience overall.
