Went to BayHaven for the 1st time in a few years, total disappointment! The parking lot was almost empty on a Saturday night, which I should have taken into consideration after some of the more recent reviews, but went in anyway. I ordered a cocktail that was on the table tent to be told they don't have it... chose something else. Ordered an appetizer and our meals. I had a salad as 1 of my sides. The salad came out immediately, still waited for the appetizer.... After a long wait with few customers the dinners came out... 6 shrimp in my companions baked shrimp with crabmeat stuffing and my baked haddock & scallops with lobster stuffing was horrible! Both stuffings were made of stovetop mine had no lobster & so much butter it wasn't edible. The crabmeat stuffing you could actually see the cubes of dried bread! No happy medium. The seafood was dry in both, even with all of the butter in the 'stuffing'. The bill was over $80 for 3 beers and 2 meals, the appetizer never came! Horrible experience! After a couple of disappointing times, The wife and I decided to try once more. Again another disappointment. She had a hamburger sub that was chopped up greasy (I think it was) beef. Steamed clams that were not cleaned. Felt Like I was eating beach sand. Cole slaw had absolutely no flavor. That will be that last time we go there. I ordered the fish chowder, celery was in big hunks and very raw, the chowder was thin, more like a bisque and there fish was some nice big hunks of fish in it... the crabby patty's were not fried long enough and were quite mushy while the dipping sauce was nice... my wife suggested we get the poutine (which we try everywhere quite frequently as we travel a lot) and something put me off about it, the hand cut French fries were undercooks and some fries were still quite raw and inedible, maybe it was the oil they were fried in? Or maybe it was something off in the gravy but it didn't taste right like something was spoiled or off in them... it was a Large bowl with cheese and gravy which we did not finish... Cannot say enough as to how good the fisherman's platter was. Seafood, fresh and fried perfectly. the fish was cooked in super clean oil and tasted great. Two adult men shared the platter, ate our fill and had enough left over for another meal. Yes, a bit pricey, but seafood is not cheap. The over all quality was excellent and totally worth the price. We've been going to Bay Haven for 20+ years and it's just sad how far the place has fallen, except the prices which have skyrocketed. The place has been going downhill for some time but it is at rock bottom now. No rolls before or during dinner, warm oven fresh rolls used to be a signature of Bay Haven. The coleslaw was inedible, nowhere close to ripe cabbage cut to large and not a trace of any dressing. The fries at least were adequate. The clam strips were cooked to the point of becoming rubber, it was like chewing on an eraser. The Fisherman's Platter was 75% shrimp and we suspect they may have been canned salad shrimp. Portions size is down and the price is way up. There's a reason the formerly always full parking lot now just has a few cars in it whenever we drive by, which is what we'll be doing from now on. Just a massive disappointment for a place that used to be 'the' go to for our group of friends. read more

Friends invited me to lunch here, last week. I've never spent a lot of time in the area and hadn't heard about the place previously. 8 of us went - 5 adults and 3 kids. We made a reservation and our table was ready when we arrived. I had the shrimp dinner, my daughter got scallops. Both were very good. My granddaughter opted for the hamburger dinner with onion rings and was shocked at how big it was. We all had food left over - which we brought home with us - so portions are generous. Comfortable, really laid back environment. Nothing fancy at all but that's just what we were looking for, and we didn't feel rushed at all. The waitress was friendly and efficient - she even took a picture of the motley crew once we finished eating. The whoopie pies looked good but I didn't have enough room left to try one. We visited Bay Haven for seafood, we always wish it was like it was in the old days. When we walked in the hostess just looked at us, no smile, no expression. She walked over to us and asked how many and if we wanted to sit in the restaurant or tavern. We chose the restaurant. Off we went to a table menus down and that was it. We all looked at each other and said maybe we should of drove to the other restaurant. Our waitress came over and took our order. She brought us rolls, butter and cole slaw. The rolls were in the microwave a little to long. Hot and rubbery. The butter was good! We all just laughed. I must say our fish dinners were very good. We did order dessert and the coconut cream pie was excellent. We will be back. But sadly, Bay Haven won't be our first choice. Something changed. Hubs got whole belly clams and there were hardly any whole bellys and the clams were really small. Once I got my order that originally came out wrong I ate alone because my husband had finished his meal before my correct order arrived. New management maybe but same old Bay haven. Take out is same price as inside eating but no rolls or salad to go. Consider going inside next time... let's consider the dinner now. We ordered 2 cups of lobster stew. Recipe changed that they added sherry too much as the lobster also tasted like sherry. One cup had just the right amount of lobster to stew. Second one had just a small piece of lobster. Too bad we were at home or would have gone back. My wife ordered the lobster sandwich that tasted excessively fishy and not the way lobster is, Even rinsed it added fresh mayo but still not very good. Seems it was left too long and should not have served it. Hope all goes well later after it rests in our stomach. I ordered the fried combo with Clams and Scallops. Not many scallops like in pictures on their web showing how good everything is. The clams were clam strips with one that actually had the belly. Clam strips is an option on the menu to add, but we did not. Hand cut fries are always good and bountiful so it looks like a large plateful of food and if it was not for those fries, I may have gone hungry. Then moved on to the clam chowder along with the steamers, fried clams & Chicken bacon ranch sub. Everything was absolutely amazing! Very very disapointed in my experience at Bay Haven. We ordered takeout..the young woman at the counter said the wait was over an hour...I said fine no problem. ..we ordred 2 entrees 1. Haddock and scaollops w/ fries and slaw. 2. Fish & chips,. add onion rings. Well we got the haddock (fillet) and scallops, 2 oz cup of slaw and fish chunks and onion rings. The chips and tarter sauce did not make it. No tarter sauce, no lemon, just threw into a box. The fish was overcooked and not seasoned. The fries not seasoned. Amazing meal from start to finish! Our food came out quickly, but with adequate time to enjoy our appetizers first. Our server, Brooke, was PHENOMENAL. She made sure all orders were taken down and served with precision and consistently passed by to make sure drinks were filled. We were part of a large group and she split the check up without a single error, which isn't as common as one might think. And the food was delicious. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Fresh seafood isn't cheap, but the portions are massive so you won't leave without leftovers. We come back every summer for a reason! read more

This restaurant was highly recommended by several communities near us. OMG. The sizes of their portions and the selection of food was great. Steamers were shared with 2 people, as there was 14 clams. Then came the lobster stew which was a milk broth loaded with lobster. It was on the thin side not like a true stew. Main means consisted of fried whole clams with mashed and peas and carrots, fried while clams with double baked loaded potato and cole slaw. I had the fried clam strips and scallops with double baked loaded potato and a fisherman's platter. This truly should come with a warning ...can serve 3 people comfortably. HUGE. Needless to saw he had a huge portion for take home. We all brought home food . Prices were good, market price. They offer many baked options as well. Only 30 minutes away. read more

Bay Haven Restaurant is an absolutely fantastic place to get your seafood fix. The lobster and the fisherman's platter are two definite recommendations. The lobster is wonderful, but no real surprise there, we are in Maine. The fisherman's platter is truly a wondrous and indulgent feast. Add some steamers to either dish and it just get even more fantastic. The service was great and the atmosphere here is simple but that is part of the appeal. All in all, this was a great experience. The northeast has some incredible seafood. In my opinion, the best in the country. It is because of places like Bay Haven Restaurant that makes the northeast achieve the title of best seafood in the country (well, at least in my opinion). I will definitely give Bay Haven Restaurant my recommendations and I will give it five stars for my overall rating. read more

Worst meal ever. Clam chowder was milk, onion, celery, and four clams you'd use for fried clams. No potatoes, no salt or pepper and was runny. Had been thinking of how great the baked stuffed scallops used to be and ordered them. Big mistake. Nothing like in the past. The presentation is awful. It comes out in a dish, flat on the top, covered in stuffing. Didn't look inviting at all. This looked like brown mud on top and that's being polite. The scallops were small compared to before and the stuffing overpowering. Couldn't taste the scallops and had to have a drink to get the stuffing sticking in my mouth down. I hate to give a bad review, but I can see why there were empty tables and no waiting lines like I remember. For the price of the scallops, and what I got, I will not be going back. Took a ride to Cornish Maine today! Stopped in for dinner! Staff ( hostess ) was super friendly! Place is pretty good sized! Menu has something for everyone ! Starters we had Poutine! It was delicious the hand cut fries were amazing, the gravy and cheese was great as well! Husband had some clam chowder he said it was good but a little too thin , he likes it thicker. The wave of nostalgia that I felt when I walked into this restaurant is indescribable. I grew up visiting this area of Maine and going to Bay Haven at least once each summer and I hadn't been for 15 years. The restaurant was updated a bit and they added a bar in back but it was basically just what I remembered. We started off the the poutine, steamers, and lobster rangoons (WOW) and I had the lobster for my meal. Everything was incredibly delicious and I was blown away by the poutine as I didn't know what to expect from a seafood restaurant but it was fantastic with a ton of cheese curds and lots of creamy gravy. My lobster was cooked perfectly and I savored every single bite. Our waitress Gail was such a sweetheart and made our experience even better. I can't wait to come back next year! read more

I come up here to camp and visit Bay Haven and in the past has been pretty good. This is the third time where it's been horrible, I won't be back. The fries were cold and the scallops had no flavor but grease, the clams were tough. My cousin asked about taking them to go and my reply was that they will go right into the dumpster, not worth the money and not edible. read more

One bad experience two years ago, shame on them. A second awful experience this year, shame on me. My haddock sandwich was inedible. The bread was hard as a piece of bark and the haddock was over cooked. The waitress spoke to the cook about it and he actually told her that he suspected that the sandwich would be returned! I gave this one 3 stars because the fried scallops were good, but if you're gonna have food other than seafood I feel like it had to be better than this. The beer selection could use a revamp also, there are so many awesome local beers in Maine. The salads and cole slaw were pretty good, and the service was also good. I thought it was cute that she brought his coleslaw ahead of the dinner like it was his salad. I wish I had taken a picture, but I ordered prime rib, rare, and first of all when it came out I could immediately see that it had not been just cut off a larger piece of meat. It was clearly leftover prime rib from a previous day, that had been reheated somehow. It was completely dark brown/black. You could not see any redness or even fat. It seems like it had some kind of sauce poured on it or something. If you're going to serve leftover prime rib, you should not even dream of letting someone think they're gonna be able to get it rare. It was practically medium well. A complete expensive disappointment. I barely ate any of it, but I took it home for my dogs. Needless to say they enjoyed it much more than I did.
