This is our first experience eating at Bayhavens. I ordered the fisherman's platter and my wife the chicken fingers. Normally when someone says there is so much food you can't eat it all in one sitting, I have a hearty enough appetite that I can. Well, not in this case! Such a large and delicious portion of food, I could not eat even half my meal at one sitting. Hats off to the gang at Bayhavens! Excellent food, great service, and friendly staff. Went and waited 20+ min then the twosome that came in 10 min after our two some got a table before us. Explanation they were regulars. Went down the street to Fairgrounds cafe. Excellent service, fresh unbelievable food and great prices. Bayhaven USED TO BE GOOD!!! After changing owners it's gone downhill in all ways. Too bad they use to be great. Clearly a local favorite ( didn't find anything else that externally was appealing for miles) so I pick this cute looking place. It's gotta be good right? So lobster is the "Maine" drawl; however, I'm not a fan but it's a seafood place so I thought I was good to go! oh No! I ordered the fish soup and the creamy base was BLAH and I bit into COLD shrimp in a hot soup?? Then I ordered the mussels - YUK ! I got a few good ones in the bunch but most were tough and kinda gross and I left 2/3 of dish behind. The mussels were served with Texas toast topped shredded cheese and was not impressive. The bread they brought to the table initially was very good, what followed was not. I expressed my lack of satisfaction and still got a full bill. With a little push back, they knocked of the soup. If mediocrity is you goal - have at it! Otherwise, find a Red Lobster - you'd be better off ! read more

The food is good but they have a problem with flies (especially in the bar area) that they can't seem to get rid of.

My husband has been up all night with stomach pains, etc. His fried clams were poorly cooked, soggy, and the shrimp were mushy. My wine was warm, I needed to ask for ice. I had the Larry's baked haddock which had a few croutons thrown on top of a piece of tasteless, steamed previously frozen haddock with some pink sauce which was supposed to be Newburg. Went there very recently and left disappointed. I'm the only seafood lover in the family so my wife and son always order steak tips. We arrived just before 8pm to avoid the hordes of senior citizens who absolutely mob the place from 5 to 7. After putting in food and drink order we were advised that there wasn't a single steak tip left in the place. Not happy. Also the waitress was pretty tardy refilling beverages, almost at the point where we were done eating. Bay Haven, load up on the tips and freeze them if you have to. read more

The food is good but the service is not the best. During today's visit with the party of 3, the host told us that the wait would be 30 minutes after she put out names down. But as time goes, we found out that the host was letting the others in before us. (at least 2 names after us were crossed when she checked us in) and she told us that we are actually 15 mins shorter than the wait time (which my mom was totally disagree). After we placed the food order, she came back told us one of the food item was not available but the table who order right after we did was actually given the same order 5 mins after. We definitely feel being treated unfairly. It's sad how the food is good but such bad experience that we have. And this was not the first time we felt that the service could be better and we always hope it could improved overtime but it disappointed us once again. read more

We stopped here on our way home to Boston last weekend and it was a good idea indeed! We have a baby and a large dog, neither of which did we want to want to bring into the restaurant or leave in the car. ;) so we stepped right up to the take out window and ordered up. Whoa! the food came fast and there was a ton of it. We could have easily shared either or the dinners. I had baked stuffed scallops and shrimp and the hubs had a fried clam dinner. Yummy! We sat down right at one of the large picnic tables with the dog and baby and ate dinner, a very relaxing experience not having to be inside. We will definitely be back! read more

On Saturday 8/25/18 we 4 hungry people drove from Bristol NH. a ( 64 mile) drive To Bay Haven for lunch. A drive my wife and I along with a group of friends would take many times to what used to be our favorite restaurant. Upon arrival we were very impressed on the new look, cleanliness, and the friendly wait staff. Seated rite away and we ordered clam strips (very small) lobster stew (double the price) whole belly clam combo with haddock (half the size it used to be and tasteless) Four double baked potatoes that appeared to have been prepared earlier that day and served (mildly warm) and scallop / haddock cassarole that was just ok ! The restaurant is nicely finished and inviting. We wished the food was just as good. We would have easily rated the old Bay Haven a 10 plus, but for now it has slipped to below average. The food is good and well priced. The servings are large. The bread they serve with dinner is great! I would not recommend the clam chowder. I like my clam chowder thick and they have more of a soupy chowder. It's all in how you like it. All and all it is a good restaurant if you want a seafood dinner. read more

We have been long term fans of Bay Haven and were concerned when we heard about the ownership change. We didn't think it could get better, but they have done an outstanding job with the place. The food is, believe it or not, even better. Also the staff is very friendly and seem much happier to be there. Disaster. We had a party of 6. Not much space for parties more than 4. Told us half hour wait. After 45 minutes we decided to take 2 booths which seated 4 people. had a drink in the lounge. Waited 10 minutes to cash out so we could go to our table. Ordered food. Took at least a half hour or more. Did not see the waitress this entire time. Food was fair at Best. read more

My family and I went here at the recommendation of my grandmother. We really enjoyed the amazing fresh seafood! I had the Stuffed Lobster and it was okay. I would have been better off having a whole lobster! Still, the lobster was really great and I pushed most of the sticky bread crumb stuffing aside. My dad had the Lobster Casserole and it was creamy, saucy lobster heaven! My mom got a special with fresh whole lobster and it was fun watching her crack open the lobster to get at the perfectly cooked lobster meat. The casual atmosphere was fun and the service was great. I was at Bay Haven on 4/28/2021, for the first time. I have heard so many good things about this place, that I was looking forward to the experience. What a Total Disappointment . We sat in the bar area, and the waitstaff was very good. The Food, was the worst Seafood Plate, that I have ever had. I have always heard good things of Bay Haven, from friends. My, experience, was terrible. I bought The Fisherman's Mate, smaller than the big one. What I received was, 3 clams, 1 scallop, 3 or 4 pieces of fish, and several very small shrimp. This is the type of food the I expect to receive at a second rated fish place at The Mall. I think what has happened is. The original owners, the one's who made Bay Haven, the Place for First Class Seafood, moved on, for whatever reason, and now you have the next owners, who want to have the Respect and Loyalty, of the customers, that the previous owners built. Except, they are getting Cheap, and Forgot what got them there. It's just a matter of time, if they keep serving this type of food before it bites them in the ass. I, for one will Never step inside the restaurant. But, what I will do, is tell anybody, who, ask's me about my experience at Bay Haven. Bar Area was great and friendly, wait was not bad. Dinner was not good, ran out of steamers, no potatoes. Ordered mussels, good quantity but overcooked. Fried clams came out ice cold, vegetable cold, and onion rings were cold too... Staff was very apologetic and replaced cold items but wouldn't go back. read more

Made a special trip to Bay Haven today for some of the best fried clans I've had in ages! The lobster spinach artichoke dip was to die for and the lobster stew had chunks of lobster sticking up over the edge of the mug! The bread was delicious, the cole slaw was yummy and twice baked potatoes were perfect. Also had the seafood pie..... Loaded with seafood with cheesey bread piled high. Topped off with a spicy pumpkin martini and the meal was delicious. The servings are so huge there's no way to eat it all! Will be returning again, most definitely!!! read more

Been coming here for several years. Bay Haven has ruined other seafood restaurants for us. If we eat at some other seafood place, we usually say something like, "Nice, but it's not Bay Haven." The new owners brought a fresh set of eyes to the restaurant and did some much needed improvements to the facility. But the food seems to be sliding in quality. Prices are up, which I would accept if the quality and portions size stayed the same. Portions are smaller. The scallops were overcooked. The salad looked like some weeds I pulled from my garden. The prime rib was tepid. French fries were simply ugh. Took them home. Not even the dog would eat them. Very disappointed. "It's not Bay Haven." read more

Unfortunately this is our second try since the reopen this yr. Food was good when we finally got it. The waitress just left multiple glasses on her table there was not a lot of room for our food when it actually got there. We had to ask for tartar sauce which that should've just been put on the table. It's unfortunate because we have been going to Bay Haven for years and in the summer we used to stop there sometimes twice a week. Unfortunately we're going to have to rethink that. read more

Sort of off the beaten path but WELL worth the extra short drive!! You want INCREDIBLE seafood?? This is the place to go! Indoor and cover and uncovered dining rooms. (Unusual..) We've tried almost everything on the menu, which shows how many times we've been there and why we keep going back. BEST YET: LOBSTER ALFREDO! Fresh, hot, homemade, huge rolls. Terrific fried clams and fisherman platter, should I go on? Seperate bar area is spotless, quaint and can make almost any kind of specialty cocktails. Every waitress and bartender are super friendly and know the menu inside and out. They ALWAYS come back to check if you want more beverages, rolls, if everything is ok no matter how busy they are. Prices are very very affordable and a family dinner won't break you. They also NEVER say they've run out of anything. Just a super place to dine! I'm sure once you go you'll keep going back! Sometimes there's a 10-15 minute wait but sooooo worth the wait! UPDATE: ok, we've been there at least once a month since last review. Even had a small Christmas party at a big table they put together for us. (Hubby loves to give gift certificates for Christmas from here also)Again, OUTSTANDING! I hate to give such a great review because that might make me wait a few minutes longer for service next time. LOL! Not really. I'd still give 10 STARS! My only thing is, they really should make the small bar bigger. Always busy. You DO STILL RECEIVE GREAT SERVICE just not enough seats to sit in while awaiting a table. I was just served rotten fish! The haddock in my baked meal reaked of amonia, when confronted with this fact, the server tried to deny the stench. She took my plate without asking me if I wanted something else, then 10 minutes later, asked me if I wanted another item. I asked for the same meal with shrimp. At no time did the manager come over to apologize or aknowledge. I waited another 30 for my food, which was burnt. THEY CHARGED ME FULL PRICE FOR MY MEAL! I asked to have the manager comp the meal for the trouble, and the server said he wouldn't. I hope no one gets sick from their rotten fish, I emplor people to find another seafood place that cares about serving FRESH food and great customer service. read more

Cons: Lacked flavor. when I have to salt seafood, that's not good. A tad greasy. Saw onion rings come out of a bag, not home made.
