I find it really strange that so many businesses in Irvine on Yelp mysteriously score 4-5 star ratings... It's not that they suck to the point of being 1-2 star businesses, but they're just... Average. Anyway, came here to this poke place on a lunch break with a coworker. Stood in line, wait time was incredibly long. We arrived well before 12 noon. Fully staffed on the other side of the counter. I must've waited 20+ minutes for one poke bowl. Whatever, came time to actually eat the food. Food is super mush. Yeah, I get that poke is diced raw fish, but when you get to the consistency of slime and it's NOT due to marinade... That means you're pushing the limits of your inventory's freshness. I didn't get sick this time, but reading through some of the negative reviews for this business, it seems like food poisoning is a thing here, and it's happened for several Yelpers. I can see why. Anyway, not really much to be said. It's an average poke place. It did not blow me out of the water, I really try to reserve 5 star ratings for "this place REALLY set the bar and redefined the entire genre of this type of cuisine!" or "I got some ridiculously good service!" or "the food here is so good you can't get it anywhere else!" Really delicious poke! I get the 2 scoop bowl and I can never finish it because it's so much food! It's around $10 for the 2 scoop bowl so a reasonable price for the amount of food you get. I also really like that they sell boba, because poke and boba just go together. Their tea is a tad on the bitter/strong side, so just keep that in mind. I give this place 5 stars based on my poke rating scale: they have crabmeat, avocado, and seaweed salad (1 star), wide range of sauces including eel sauce, spicy Mayo, ponzu (1 star), they sell boba (1 star), everything is delicious (1 star), and the prices are reasonable and you get tons of food (1 star). I use to frequent with my coworker when I worked in Irvine, so tonight we got this for dinner and it was spectacular as usual. I never had any of their teas before, and what a delight it was to try the red guava and passion fruit teas with lychee jelly. The price is right, the quality and amount is well worth it and the flavor always hits! No regrets on this one, I tried a different poke place about a week or two ago and boy was I disappointed. This is my absolute favorite poke spot and one I can count on when we need a poke fix! Love it and will be ordering from here again in the future. Caution: You may get food poisoning or spoiled fish. I had been here before, maybe a handful of times within the last 6 to 12 months. Today, I got 2 scoops of ahi tuna and 1 scoop of salmon. I'm lucky I focused on eating the toppings and the rice first. I had a bite of salmon which was disgusting and had to spit it out immediately. I then dry heaved with my gag reflex and nearly threw up several times inside. Threw the rest of it away and told the staff that something was likely wrong with the salmon. They listened to my brief sentence and then ignored me. They didn't ask if I needed help, ask any other questions, offer a refund or a new bowl or otherwise do anything that I feel would be reasonable. I left and in the car, felt like throwing up again. My stomach is still queasy several hours later. Obviously, bad things can happen but when food safety and food quality are combined with poor service, it makes for a very poor experience. read more

There is a pretty awesome selection of toppings and my favorite sauces are the spicy mayo with some house and sesame oil. I'm sad they changed their prices and added a small bowl but I understand that it comes with inflation. The reason I dock a point is because on several occasions, my online order came not as ordered or it was not ready, which was a bit disappointing. Lunch time does get crazy so it is more convenient to order online, however, I would suggest to always check your order before leaving. I would literally give negative stars for the trash service I received today. I placed an order online and paid online. Went to go pick it up and my boyfriend ran inside to grab the food and they made him pay again saying that you can't pay online. How does an employee not even understand their own online ordering service?! Well then I tried to call them to get a refund. I literally called 10 times and no one picked up. I have been going here often and think this is the best Poke place I have ever tried. I love the sauce combination of House sauce, Ponzu sauce, and a bit of sesame oil topped off with eel sauce. Getting a side of Ponzu really makes the meal that much yummier! Their fish and avocado is always incredibly fresh, which can make or break a poke bowl so I am very thankful. I've had poke at a number of places, and this was not only the priciest, but the most mediocre experience. I saw five or so proteins with visually unappealing sauces, including two that I'm not sure were meant to have sauce. I chose the safe route with the tuna and salmon, but was less than thrilled with the temperature (warmer than usual). I tend to not frequent this plaza despite being conveniently located between the 405 and 5 freeway on Sand Canyon Ave. Bay Poke is located in the same plaza as 7/11, Sajj, and Everyday Eatery. PARKING: This plaza tends to be more crowded during weekday lunchtimes because of the density of restaurants here and its proximity to lots of business complexes and medical buildings. I've had to drive around for a bit to snag a parking spot. INTERIOR: Clean, modern, limited seating inside. Not much room to work with. Would recommend taking advantage of outdoor seating instead. The system is Subway/Chipotle-style poke where you order down a line and pay at the end. FOOD: You can either order their signature bowls or build your own bowl. Sizes range from small to large (from 2 scoops to 4 scoops of protein). You can choose a base of white/brown rice, spring mix, or 1/2 and 1/2. They serve your basic seafood proteins (raw or cooked), although I thought the SAVORY TUNA (marinated tuna) is something you'd see more in a legit Hawaiian-style poke joint. I thought the raw seafood was very fresh and portions were generous. I got full off of a medium (3 scoop protein). Sauces are pre-mixed and Bay Poke has more than a few to choose from. Go-chu-jang sauce and sesame oil choices give a Korean-twist. Standard toppings, sides, and other sauces are available. IMITATION CRAB was surprisingly more crab-meat than sauce; I like that it's not just filler. GREEN TOBIKO (flying fish roe) was a nice change as a topping option. They offer jalapeno, corn, and pineapple as non-traditional toppings. PRICE: About $1-2 more than surrounding poke places. I think the poke here is good, but not worth the extra cost. I paid $13.41 for a medium bowl at Bay Poke post-tax. It all just blended together with no distinct flavors, except the house sauce that was too sweet. I'll eat almost anything, and I threw at least a third of it away. I was really excited to visit because I love both poke and boba! The poke is overall really yummy. Fresh fish and large portions for a decent price. The avocado is extra though which is a little bit annoying. Many other poke places do avocado for free in my experience. Aside from the bowl, I also got a peach tea with boba. I usually love this place as my go-to for poke. Yet they've added a bunch of new staff, with even higher prices. I felt like I was at chipotle with their portioning. Normally they give a certain amount for even the non extra charge toppings and I was needing to ask for extra amounts just to get it to the portioning from before. On top of that they didn't ask me if I wanted any utensils nor a bag as they usually do... Unfortunately, due to the bad customer service, I will no longer be coming here. For the past 3 occasions my order was wrong and when I brought it to their attention I was given a bad attitude. I would say it was a good decision to visit this restaurant for my actual first-time-trying poke experience. Even though I enjoy eating raw fish it was very hard to find decent poke place where I live so I was pretty excited to try out. It was everything I imagined; I couldn't finish a little bit of rice because they were too oily but since you get to put the ingredients you want, I believe you can just ask them to put little less sesame oil. I have lived locally for 18 months and have ordered from this place 1-3 times a week the entire time I've lived here. After months of getting the same poke with Thai tea, the last month there have been three instances of them watering down the Thai tea. I don't know what they're supposed to be using--some places use milk (not good) but whatever they used to use is something sweeter than milk. I assume it's half and half. But in any case, whatever it is they used to use, they no longer use it and sometimes just use water instead. Are you kidding me? It's gross. And with Covid-19 going on, I'm always ordering for pick up so it's not until I get home and already spent the money that I find out my Thai tea is going to be poured down the sink because it's frankly gross. I'm giving a second star because the poke has always been really good. But making the Thai tea like this not once, not twice, but three times now is too much for me. So my review was removed. I'm not too sure why. Maybe the manager didn't like it? Too bad. I'll continue to post. I finally gave this place a second go and I was not impressed in the least. The fish was warm, it wasn't cold. The atmosphere was humid and warm, which isn't good for the fish. My salmon tasted off, and smelled foul. The masago was sour. I didn't even know it could be sour. As I stated before, the manager disregards the customers concerns and discredit them. Many have complained about food poisoning, and like I said. If you want to come here, then come. You're playing a game of Russian Roulette. You don't know what you'll get. And another thing...when the manager states "it takes weeks for symptoms to show.." in regards to food poisoning.
