I am a regular customer at this place and every time I come here, they always give me good filling portions and fresh set of fish. I always come here when I am craving poke and recently they got a new menu for katsu. And that katsu was so crispy, tender and juicy and I remember savoring every bite. The sauces went well with katsu and the complimentary dish also went so well with katsu. The gyoza was also really crispy and good and that it really went well with katsu and the salad. The service was also really good and fast and all the workers are really sweet. It was my first time getting take-out from Bay Poke yesterday and I was impressed! Their online ordering system is super easy. You can choose from small, medium, or large and build your own poke bowl with all your favorite bases, fish, and toppings. I ordered 3 bowls and picked it up in 15 minutes. When I got to the store to pick up my order, the bowls were prepared already. Each poke bowl came in 2 separate containers, 1 for the base (brown rice or salad) and 1 for the fish and toppings, I guess to keep the warm and cold foods separate. Great idea! The guy in front of me ordered a medium. The person helping gave him a scoop and a half of everything (3 proteins). The kids helping me with my large (4 proteins), by contrast, was super chintzy, giving me level scoops of everything, even wiping off extra spicy tuna from the scoop. I have been going to the Irvine Bay Poke for 3 years and I honestly used to LOVE it. Out of all the places in Irvine, this was the place that I went to 2x a month at a minimum. The prices per bowl kept rising but I continued to go to them since I felt they packed my bowl well and their ingredients were always fresh. However on my most recent trip, I got a small bowl for around $13.95 (this used to be the price of the large bowl which is now $18.95) that was mostly empty. My bowls from here have always been full to at minimum the brim of the bowl if not the lid. My bowl this time was significantly lighter for the highest price I've ever paid for with them. When I showed my roommates who also frequently go to Bay Poke, they were shocked at the amount in comparison to the bowls we've been getting for 3 years. While most places short you on the fish and pack it full of rice, I got shorted even on the rice. Did my bowl still taste the same as it has for the last 3 years? Yes. I think thats a little crazy since salmon seems to be the standard for any poke place and charging extra for that seems abnormal. Their shrimp katsu plate is very delicious and it is also very filling. The shrimp in so plump and soft in the inside with a very nice crunch on the outside. Not only the main dish, but the side dishes like the jalapeños had an amazing kick that perfectly fit well with the katsu. Also, their dumplings and salad with the salad dressings were just truly delightful. Don't even get me started with their sauce. Their poke bowls are scrumptious and an absolute flavor blast in your mouth. The fish is very fresh and all the other add one like corn, wasabi, and fish eggs are a nice compliment to the entire bowl. If you need a nice little something to refresh your palate their bobas are also some top tier drinks that I would highly recommend. Overall the place is alright, not sure if it's worth dealing with small portions and rude kids. Pretty unprofessional staff overall. If your gonna hire high school students at least train them better. Portion size for what you pay can depend on which kid is serving. So you never know if your going to get a decent bowl or not. My last experience I decided cancel my bowl half way because they refused to get a new tray of salmon and tried to give me whatever was left and paint it as me getting 4 scoops. Paying over $20 dollars for a 4 scoop to not really get 4 scoops doesn't seem worth it to me. I like this place because it's close to home. But until they decide to make better changes to their staff and better their portions, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Thai tea, milk tea, and some other one. I passed since I'm lactose. I ordered the fruit teas instead. Made with Jasmine green tea. Got the strawberry and the mango. The cups look great. The prices are way more expensive than the ones I've had from other places but they pack their bowls to the top! I decided to get a large w/ salmon, double tuna, shrimp and octopus as my protein. The fish and shrimp were really fresh and didn't taste fishy at all! However, I didn't enjoy the octopus. It was so chewy and hard that I gave up on it. Felt like I was chewing on rubber. For the sauce, I chose to get the house sauce (ginger soy) and sesame oil. As for my add ons I went with: masago, green onions, cucumber, seaweed salad, white onions and crabmeat w/ a drizzle of spicy mayo/eel sauce. I went here on Sun 6/5 right before closing. I had asked for 2 scoops of salmon & 1 scoop is spicy tuna. The salmon was running out, and after "checking", the male server told me that the salmon that was there was all that they had. I said that that was fine. I opted for a salmon, spicy salmon, and spicy tuna. A few minutes after, another customer walks in and is helped by a female server. They wanted salmon as well. The female server went to get more salmon! Really peeved that the male server was too lazy or unknowledgeable to get more salmon. While I found a work around, I do not appreciate being lied to so poorly. And the weird part was that my server (the male one) put spicy tuna & the spicy salmon into the mix-in and sauce (when they mix in the sauce into the protein). Very strange. First time I've had that happen because (1) the spicy tuna & spicy salmon are already marinated and (2) the spicy tuna has the consistency of the crab meat, which means that if you mix it in, it just becomes scattered and unfulfilling. Other places just put a scoop of spicy tuna straight into the bowl to preserve the texture. Furthermore, the food for the price isn't worth it. It didn't taste all that good nor was it satisfying. For a medium 3-scoop bowl, I paid $15-16 + tax & tip, coming out to a bit more than $18. Poor decision to eat here. Go to Poke Dot instead-- it's slightly cheaper, more fulfilling, and the service is better. read more
