I was very impressed that Rochester had good tacos! First off, the salsas were AMAZING and so flavorful. I really enjoyed the spicy ones! If they ever sell the salsa by the jar, I'd 100% buy some! We got a fish taco and a surf and turf burrito. The shrimp in the burrito were well seasoned and well-sized! Overall, I was very impressed by the flavors in the burrito. I was sad after Gyromania left, but I am so happy Bay Vista Taqueria moved in. I've been here so many times that I have lost count at this point. Right when you enter, there is a giant blown up menu is on the wall along with the special of the day. You can order right there and there's fresh salsa on the side: mild, medium, and hot. You get chips with every order and sometimes they can be quite salty. There are about 6 small tables to eat it. My favorite item on the menu is the So-Cal Burrito; "sauteed chile/cilantro/lime marinated angus steak, shoestring french fries, cheddar-jack cheese, salsa fresca, fresh guacamole, and ancho-chile remoulade". The combination of everything in the burrito is just mouth watering. It is a very large burrito at $11.95. My husband and I always get this time and time again. I've called in orders before and had my husband pick them up on the way home from work. One I called my order in to eat there since it does take a little bit of time to prepare, they forgot one of my burritos but was nice enough to give me a discount for the trouble. Very good Mexican that was freshly prepared and filing. Went with the carne molida and asada tacos. Both were served on double corn tortillas topped with pickled onions and queso fresco. The meat was tender, very flavorful and delicious. I also enjoyed the house-made habanero sauce that was available to add to your tacos. Side of refried beans were good and had plenty of flavor. I've had this restaurant on my list for quite some time. After reading numerous Yelp reviews I knew I had to give it a try, but unfortunately the food did not meet my expectations today. My friend and I arrived a few minutes after they opened for the day. The service was great and I love a good family owned local business. The owner(I'm assuming) was very nice and he was out wiping down tables and chatting with the customers. I will start with the chips and salsa. I LOVE that they provide a free basket of chips with your order and a nice selection of salsa and sauces to choose from. I love some good chips and salsa! The chips were good but I would've liked them a little warmer and a little less salty (some chips were just covered in salt). The salsa roja was soooo yummy that I could just eat a whole bowl of it! I think that will just be my go-to next time. The salsa verde was very watery and had a strange taste to it... almost too sour maybe? I'm usually a big fan of salsa verde, but this one not so much on the chips(I did put it on my Hawaiian taco which actually enhanced the flavor). Then there were two sauces in squeeze bottles that were thicker and they were both packed with flavor! I ordered a Hawaiian fish taco and a Baja fish taco. The Hawaiian fish taco had a delicious mango salsa on it, but I feel like the overall taco was missing a little flavor to it. Maybe it was the 2 corn tortillas that it was wrapped in so it was a lot of tortilla. The Baja fish taco was ok, but the slaw that it came with was full of so much mayo and it made the crispy fish soggy on one side. I used Bay Vista for a fiesta bridal shower I was throwing for my daughter. I walked into the restaurant without an appointment and had planned on speaking with a few different restaurants to compare prices. When I spoke with the owner I immediately felt that I was at the right place and in the right hands to get the job done perfectly. I booked him right away. Not a single moment of regret! As the event drew closer, Dave called me to verify details. On the day of the event his staff showed up on time and quickly got things set up. The food was fabulous. Everyone loved it. The serving staff were professional and friendly. At the end of the meal they even helped clear plates from the tables. I would highly recommend Bay Vista for anyone who desires the best taco bar in town for their fiesta, Cinco de Mayo, or whatever other event you have. This place is great! read more

I read mixed reviews about this place so I needed to try it for myself. My sister has been going there quite often and she told me it was simply fabulous. All in all, this is a good place and I would go back no doubt m! Me being from Tampa Bay, I was a little skeptical because, let's face it, we have amazing Mexican, Cuban and Spanish food down there. But this place turned out being really tasty. I was surprised at the quality and pretty presentation of the meal. It didn't have quite the feeling of the places I eat at in Tampa but that may be due to a variety of reasons. Usually in Tampa the places have those distinctive smells and sounds and people working there. It feels a little bit more authentic. However this place still can put together a mean taco. This restaurant is located in Webster. It is pretty unassuming from the outside. When you walk in you get greeted quite nicely! You can tell the people like being there and it really has a family feel. They have a nice dining area and also little toy dinosaurs on the fireplace mantle which they encourage children to play with or to take one. I ordered the Hawaiian fish tacos. They have two types of fish tacos one fried and one grilled. I opted for the grilled one. I also ordered a traditional taco with carne asada. My mother ordered the nachos. They have this green salsa there that's really to die for. I think it's the best thing I tasted there. The tacos taste really good when you place the green sauce on them. They also give you complementary chips and limes. You could also grab more salsa at the salsa bar. My Hawaiian fish taco was really good but I felt the need to put more salt on it as I usually do. Once I put the green salsa on it, it really improved the taste. I would suggest making it a bit more juicy if possible. I liked the pieces of mango. The Carne asada taco is usually my favorite type of taco. However in this case I felt like the cheese didn't complement the meat. I don't like the type of cheese that was used in this taco. I prefer no cheese to be honest with you. I don't think it is needed! To make this better I would make the meat a little bit juicier. Also when someone orders the traditional taco I would make sure you put more pickled items on it. I would even double the amount of pickled toppings you put on there. It may need a little bit more spice too. Admittedly there was a section for hot salsa and I did not try it. Upon reflection I should have. I felt like the nachos were good but again the cheese was strong for me. I don't know what type of cheese is used but wasn't my favorite. I did have a couple bites of it and I can see how I would just keep eating and eating them. Nachos are dangerous! So even though the cheese was a bit strong for me I would probably order and eat these in the future! We tried the coleslaw too. I felt it was good but it wasn't overly flavorful. Another suggestion I have is to put the green salsa and the other salsa in plastic squirt bottles right on the table so people don't have to keep getting up to get more salsa. You may want to warm the chips as well. It may add a nice smell to the place too. I wanted to give some helpful suggestions to the owner. I met him and he seems like a great guy. I also met his wife who was working there that day. All in all a great place and I'm proud that this place is in Rochester. Keep up the great work! read more

Always happy to see new Mexican joints in town! Really good food. I had the carnitas burrito and a side of rice and beans. You get free chips with every order and their home made red and green sauce in the squeeze containers (not the salsa) are even better than John's in my opinion. They have Tapatio at all the tables which is a huge plus considering it is the best hot sauce ever made. They take credit cards too which is nice. The only negatives I have about the place is that the burritos are a bit small (see picture). I know authentic Mexican burritos are not very large, but these are not authentic Mexican burritos, they are the the American version of burritos, so they should be gigantic. The seating area is limited and very noisy inside but that's not a huge deal. Also the parking lot is pretty small so if you show up during a rush you might have to find someplace else to park. I really want this place to be a success but they need to work a little harder on the flavors. I enjoyed their salsa it was very fresh and had great flavors I like the fact that the tortilla was corn. They also make their own hot sauce that was pretty good it could be a little bit hotter but that's just me. This place was sooooo tasty! The menu is simple but still has awesome options. This was our first time so we both just got tacos, but we will be back - definitely! The tacos we had were so delicious and authentic, I can only imagine what the rest of the menu tastes like. Next time we'll definitely try a salad and the fish tacos! We've been excited about trying Bay Vista Taqueria since it opened and finally got the opportunity this evening! We weren't disappointed! The woman taking our order and serving us was very personable. She waited patiently for my 5 year old and 9 year old to order their food themselves. I never caught her name, but she made our visit so enjoyable. My hubby and I each got a combo, allowing us to sample the four house special tacos. We were both impressed with the freshness and flavor of the Hawaiian Fish Taco and the Baja Fish Taco. My boys were pleased with their orders as well, and of course loved the chips and salsa. I'd definitely recommend Bay Vista Taqueria and look forward to sampling some of their other dishes. Update: 4/24/18 This was my third visit and the new taco offerings knocked it out of the park. Called in a pick up order, the man on the phone was helpful and polite. When I got there, my food wad just coming out, lucky me! The counter staff was friendly when cashing me out. Every order comes with tortilla chips but... no salsa? I didn't realize that until I got home. I don't do dry chips, so I didn't really eat them. Tacos come traditional style or American style. $38 for one taco and one burrito and one Corona seems like highway robbery. I could have accepted it if the food knocked my socks off, but instead it just kind of made them pull half way off my feet. The taco was a chicken BLT, so not much for expense in that little pocket. And the burrito was a $12 mess of a meager 3 shrimp and a massive amount beans. Great and reasonably priced. Homemade guacamole and salsas. They use corn tortillas. I had 2 of the specialty fish tacos. One was shrimp with mango, chili, cilantro and the other was cod with slaw, avocado, etc-- both were excellent. But what was even better was the black beans and rice. Extremely tasty. Great place to grab a quick, tasty, inexpensive lunch. Beats all those horrible fast food Mexican places like Moes! My only complaint is they are closed on Sundays. read more

For tacos in mid December this place really impresses. I was on the way to chipotle when I flipped open yelp hoping to find a gem. I found the menu to have plenty of options rather than just a generic assortment of tacos. I love Baja fish tacos and I was not disappointed. I also had the mahi mahi taco with mango salsa that was incredible. The salsa was just perfect for me, I'm low on the spicy threshold and this taco had such a good blackened fish flavor with the mango salsa cutting through. The carne Asada Americana was equally impressive. Generous amount of protein and the Americana dressing fits it great. I also tried the camarones shrimp taco and was happy with it but it didn't really jump out to me in flavor as the others did. Maybe a bit of a marinade or blackening would help with the overall flavor. All in all this was a very pleasant surprise. read more

This is by far the worst restaurant in greater Rochester NY, it beats them all and here's my story. Dined here at 7pm on a Thursday night, after I placed my order at 7:10p, the overweight woman behind the counter had looked at the clock and exclaimed "we're only open until 8", I knew I was in for a bad night. To start the tacos here are outrageously priced, yes, even more than southern California. Secondly, they suck. As previous Yelpers have said, bland and bland and bland. No taste on any of the tacos I ordered. The fish taco was among the worst, a dump size, long john silver fish piece with (nothing) in the taco. Horrible. We were the only ones in this dump and were given take out containers instead of plates?!? Worse, when my date and I were finishing our meal at 7:50 ( we got our food at 7:40) the same woman was harrasing us telling us "ok, finish up, we close soon" This place is an absolute joke. I will celebrate like I won a million dollars when they go under. If you wrote this place 3 or more stars, you've never seen the sun and have been living in Rochester, far too long. read more

First visit to this small neighborhood taqueria. We were welcomed by a young woman who explained the varied available options. They offer salads, tacos, burritos and more of Mexican fare. It is self serve with ordering at the counter and when order is ready it is brought to your table. Self serve is for disposable utensils, napkins and a variety of salsas and house made hot sauces. Our order included a basket of tortilla chips and with free refills. I ordered a shrimp taco and a mahi mahi taco. My husband ordered a steak and chicken tacos. All were yummy but we liked my mahi taco the best! It was prepared on corn tortillas with fresh corn, cilantro and mango. Really good!! Prices are reasonable and a good value for a fast and pleasant meal. Next time we may opt for take out as there is limited seating. They mentioned they're shooting for an outdoor seating and deck area this summer. Hopefully a beer and wine license will be in place by then as well. I had high hopes for this place. Several people told me the food was great. I should know better than to have expectations before entering a restaurant. We went on a cold Tuesday evening thinking it would not be very busy on a weeknight. The gentleman at the counter was very nice but ill equipped to handle the line. Mind you it was a line of only 3 or 4 people. Perhaps they need to streamline the ordering process. They seemed short staffed. We finally put our order in and sat down to wait for our food. 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 40 minutes go by. We've devoured all the chips and salsa, finished our drinks, the guy at the counter finally comes and offers free drinks for the long wait. This was a nice gesture but too little too late. Our food finally arrives and i am expecting fabulously flavored tacos. Not so much. I ordered a variety, chicken, beef, and fish. The only one i felt was decent was the fish. Ordered 3 soft shell tacos with flour tortillas. Went traditional style with Carne Asada, Carnitas & Pollo for the fillings. Started with their chips and salsas, both red and green. Chips were good, crisp and not over salted. Salsas were both very tasty. The tacos were just OK. They came with rice and beans which were also just OK. M husband and I and my daughter visited here when we were going to some music venue in Webster. I was really excited and the menu looked great. First of all, chips were dry and cold, maybe just not my style. I ordered a Baja taco and the chicken fresca taco. My daughter ordered a mini quesadilla with a side order of refried beans and rice and I'm not sure what my husband ordered. I thought the Baja taco was good oh, but the chicken fresco taco lacked flavor. It was very dry and the refried beans were so salty that I could not eat them. My husband said his was okay and my daughter's quesadilla was kind of dry. Overall, it was okay and I have to say the service was stellar. A great addition to the Webster food scene. We tried a variety of tacos, quesadillas, and burritos. The tacos were packed full of flavor with each bite better than the last. Our favorite meat was the carne asada - it melted in your mouth delicious. Also got a chicken quesadilla with jalapeños - fantastic! Just the right amount of jalapeño for a nice kick in every bite. The shredded chicken was juicy, delicious, and makes me want more! We usually call ahead with our order and the people answering the phone are always pleasant and nice to talk you. At first I was torn about this place. The location is awkward to get in, and it took the place of one of my favorite Greek Places in Rochester. Then it it turned out to be a taqueria, but so close to a Qdoba?! I was concerned about their viability considering the access to the place coming from Empire (it's an awkward left turn, next to a traffic light) But since I was coming down from 104, it was easy access for me and decided it was time to give them a try. The fact that my friend told me that they had mahi mahi sealed the deal for me. The have tacos, burritos and quesadillas, served with salsa and sour cream (for the quesadillas at least) I ordered the quesadilla with poblanos and mahi mahi, and frankly I wasn't terribly impressed. I've been there twice and must say that so far it's the best Taqueria food in the Rochester area. Stop wasting your money at chains like Chipotle, which in my opinion is just crap quality and flavour. The food quality here at Bay Vista Taqueria is quite good and the staff and owner are nice. I would like to see prawns/shrimp available without being marinated already. Just not a fan of cilantro. The only problem I have with this place is that they use styrofoam for take outs. I know the East Coast is a long way behind the times in a lot of things, but for Earth's sake, stop using styrofoam. I will be glad to add a star if they forgo the styrofoam and opt for a more biodegradable option. The other great thing about this place is that it's very close to our house, so it's a nice option for a quick take-out order when we don't want to cook. read more
