I was happy to see a new restaurant by my side of town and even happier to know if it was a seafood restaurant. I stopped by for dinner one day. I was surprised to see that it closes at 7 PM. I am hoping they will eventually extend their hours. You order at the counter and they bring out your food to your table. They have three types of fish, the trout is the only one that has bones and they can debone it for a dollar. They also have catfish and tilapia. All their meals are fried, but you can request them to be grilled. They also have shrimp that can also be requested grilled. I decided on the grilled trout and shrimp and substituted my fries for hush puppies. I did opt for the one dollar deboning fee. My trout and shrimp were seasoned well and the portion of the fish was pretty big. The shrimp were on the small side. The order of hush puppies came with six hush puppies. They do bring you sauces out per request. If you like a lot of sauce, you'll have to let them know because they only give you a small cup. They did offer white bread with my meal. I opted for a slice, but then realized I didn't go well with grilled fish. The staff members were super nice and they answered all my questions. The restaurant has inside seating. There is parking available, but shared with the other businesses. read more

Met here with a friend for lunch one weekend day. I actually hadn't gone to a Bay seas in way too many years to count which made me skeptical on trying this chain again when my friend mentioned it. It's a convenient location close in our NW side of town so, I said sure, why not support . Ambience was simple, not crowded. No music or anything playing inside. Just table chatter and a few displayed folks in the plaza (one came in for water to go). Staff wasn't overly friendly but wasn't rude either....just dry (if that makes sense). Service was quick. Didn't take long to get our order. We both had the special that included fried catfish, fried shrimp, fries, 2 slices of white bread and she added oysters to her platter. A soft drink was an extra 2.50 so $20 something total each. Once the order came, I wasn't impressed with the food. Fish & Shrimp was limp/lacked crispiness that you would expect from oil fried foods and lacked flavor. (Resembled frozen pieces vs fresh catches). With that being said, I'd honestly prefer long john silvers over this. (Yes, we still have 2 left in San Antonio). ‍ At this time, I'd rather drive a little further out, choose a different seafood restaurant & really enjoy what I order. Came in for a late lunch and was the only customer present. Ordered trout sandwich w/ gumbo. Waited 20 minutes for food. Generous portion of trout with soggy white bread, lettuce and tomato. Trout was gray under the coating and tasted really fishy. Gumbo was Not Good and was boiling hot. Experience not enjoyable plus floor was sticky and they charged me 50 cents for a refill. read more

My daughter and I ate lunch today at this Bayseas and the meal was mediocre. The fried talipia was ok, the fried okra was good, the hush puppies were pre-made, the fries were ok and the kool-aid punch was good. My daughter ordered a cup of gumbo, which was too spicy for her taste, the fried shrimp were ok, there was too much batter on the shrimp, the Arnold Palmer was great, the sweet potato pie was not homemade and the crust was raw. The peach cobbler was ok, a little too sweet. The food is really fast food, not tasting like home cooked at the Bayseas on Nacogdoches. They need to hire more staff, service was slow and one customer left the restaurant. RECOMMENDATION: Ok if you like real fried food vs. home cooked. read more

I'll give it two stars, I'd give it just one, but my friend liked it. The service was fair, and big pieces of fish, but mine had a few hairs in it. I didn't want to embarrass my friend, so kept quiet and took the food home, and it went straight to the trash. Just make sure you look carefully before you eat it. The atmosphere is cozy, super clean, and honestly feels like someone's Southern grandma owns the mop AND the recipe book. The staff? **So nice and helpful**, I felt like I was being adopted into the family. I halfway expected someone to send me home with Tupperware and life advice. Now... the **fried catfish**. The breading was *flaky*, *light*, and *NOT greasy*. I didn't have to wipe my fingers on a napkin more than twice--and one of those was emotional, not oily. The **tartar sauce** deserves its own award ceremony. Not drowning in mayo or chopped-up pickles--just smooth, flavorful perfection like it was made by someone who actually cares about fish. **Hush puppies**? Oh, they said "no dry crumbs here, baby." Flavorful, moist, and cooked perfectly like they had a personal chef whispering affirmations at them. **Greens**--delicious, seasoned right. **Mashed potatoes & gravy**--*homemade* (yes, I tasted that love). Perfect match for the **chicken fried steak**, which by the way, was NOT dry, NOT greasy, and the breading was flaky!! Now unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how dramatic you like your food adventures), I didn't get to try the macaroni, trout, or wings **because they were SOLD OUT**--and honestly, that only confirms what my taste buds were already screaming: **This place is GOOD.** Dessert didn't happen because I had to preserve my dignity and avoid rolling out the door, but trust me, **next time I'm coming prepared**. I normally have pleasant experiences at this location; however, today the customer service was absolutely horrific. I called my order in 20 minutes ahead of time, only to be met with a long line and a restaurant full of people. After waiting in line, as others were placing orders, they finally rang me up for my food and informed me my food was "ready," and they were "bagging it up." There was no place to sit, so I decided to remain standing at the counter, because I was told my order was ready. Nevertheless, another 20 minutes passed while standing at the counter. As a disabled Veteran, this was extremely painful for me, and again there was nowhere to sit down. The two females at the register continued to take orders and hand out food as if I wasn't there... Finally, I stopped one of the ladies and reminded her that she told me my food was "ready." What could possibly be the hold up, I thought to myself. After she shuffled around and asked the cooks in the back about my order, they told her that they had already sent my order out to the front... SMH.. This whole time I had been standing in line, hurting, my food had been abandoned on the counter and without anyone's knowledge, supposedly. The lady explained that the wrong ticket was placed on top of my food, and that's the reason she didn't know that it was my order. She apologized and also blamed on the manager who took my order over the phone. The food had been sitting right next to her register too.... just sitting there. I absolutely do not understand why she didn't follow up with my order, once she was told it was "ready" and saw me standing there all that time. I wonder if I hadn't said anything, if I'd be still standing there being ignored. This was very uncomfortable for me and extremely upsetting, to say the least. I hadn't been to a bayseas in a loooong time. Coworker asked me to try it for lunch yesterday so we went. Everyone was very nice. It was empty at lunchtime but I understand they are new. We ordered at the counter. Being from Louisiana had to try the gumbo and got a fish and shrimp plate. With fries and a sweet tea. I'll go in the order I ate. Gumbo came first. Cup of gumbo $7. Had one shrimp and one sausage. Didn't taste like a gumbo base. Almost tasted like red beans and rice. Can not recommend. Fries were fine. Shrimp. Oh the shrimp. Tiny shrimp inside a large batter. I wish I had taken a photo. I was wondering why the batter was flat and just thinking butterflied but no it was 80% batter which if you pulled away you found the shrimp. Also can not recommend. The catfish though. Fire. Straight fire. Meaty. Fried perfect. I would come here again just for that. Definite recommend. I also had to add sugar to my sweet tea so there's that. But it's fine. All in all I'd come back for the catfish. Those were actually done perfectly. Would pass on everything else I had sadly. read more

I've visited twice. You order at the counter and sitting yourself to eat in or take out. The food was served hot. I ordered the gumbo which was bit pricey for the small amount but was serve hot in a small styrofoam cup. I do not like mushrooms in my gumbo so I did not eat much but it did have a nice spice level. I ordered the fried catfish and shrimp platter, The fries , shrimp and fish was serve hot /made to order. I prefer more flavour/seasoning but the portions were large and reasonably priced. . I ordered lemon pepper wings to go. The customer service is very good. My second visit I ordered trout, shrimp and oyster. Staff are very good at fixing order errors and following up after you sit. I had seen a few advertisements about this location and decided to give it a try (I have been to a couple of the other locations). It did not disappoint. The only reason I gave it four stars is because I was really looking forward to eating a piece of cornbread and when I got it I realized they put cinnamon on theirs. I am not a fan but I'm sure others will enjoy it. The fish was cooked perfectly, crust was nice and flaky, the flavor was over the top and the pieces were huge. The fries were basic, I felt like they could use a little more flavor but they weren't bad. The atmosphere was great, nice and quiet, very clean and the staff were very patient and respectful. They allowed me to take my time in making a decision about what to order. All in all I will return. Highly recommended. read more

I did not know baysea seafood was even open on Culebra. I was definitely excited and surprised. I love this restaurant. The food is always hot and fresh cooked to order and I like the small family vibe. Today I ordered catfish, shrimp and oyster special. A hit per usual. The only concern I had was the oysters fell apart and were to wet. I've never experienced that before. All in all, I have been to enough baysea to know this is not the norm. Picked up an order to go and the service was super friendly / helpful and the catfish was delicious. Way better than J Anthony's and Laguna Madre's. Restaurant was also clean. I definitely will be a repeat customer. They just need to market so more people know that they are off Culebra near (inside) 1604. Pricing was very decent and better than the competition. read more

Was a long time Customer at the Bayseas on WW white Road and I thought I would never get the same gumbo again with it closing. I'm glad this location opened as the gumbo really hit the spot. It really taste like the original Bayseas gumbo and the customer service was excellent. I was able to pick up two orders of gumbo and hush puppies and it reminded me of going to the east side for gumbo. Would definitely recommend this spot. Even the ambience of the store reminded me of the old Bayseas. read more

Definitely a Change in flavor in this area. Everything we ate was good. Flounder and catfish were to perfection. Hell even the tarter suave was great. Huspipes were a great appetizer. For those that cried about the gumbo being spicy, that's what gumbo suppose to taste like, Get Real. I can't wait to go eat here again. read more

It's good for fried seafood. The dessert (banana pudding) was not homemade AND greatly overpriced for what you get e.g. box pudding, a few wafers, a diced piece of banana...maybe.
