I drove across town specifically to try BB's Tex Cajun, walked into a restaurant that was mostly empty, ordered a bowl of gumbo... and then spent almost 30 minutes wondering if they were catching the chicken fresh out back. Eventually I gave up and left without ever getting my food. I wish I could review the gumbo, but apparently that's a members-only experience. The service wasn't rude, just painfully slow, which somehow made it even more impressive considering there weren't many people there. If you're looking for a place to practice patience or reflect on the passage of time, 10/10. If you're looking for dinner... maybe pack a snack. read more

Stopped in with a party of 5 adults and 3 kiddos and couldn't have had worse service. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated so we ordered immediately upon sitting (kids were hungry!). Asked the waitress if kids food could come sooner if possible but if not it's understandable. We didn't see our waitress for the next hour and had to ask what was going on. Upon asking all the food magically was almost done and came out shortly. We had no problem waiting, things happen we get it!, but there was ZERO communication from our waitress. 1. Food: A. Chips and dip were complimentary. The red dip was thick and had a good flavor. The green dip was very thin and watery and lacked flavor or spices. B. Gumbo: Tried to get the gumbo with shrimp, sausage and okra. What I ended up with was Chicken and sausage. It was ok but lacked the flavor I was looking for. C. Red beans and rice: It came with sausage but was extremely dry. I had to add some water from my drink to stir it and the eat it. Unfortunately the spices were very bland. D. Collard greens: I loved their collard greens but it had so much salt in it that it was hard to eat. E. Drinks: I had a large water and two margaritas. One was on the rocks and very weak. I came in for an early dinner with my daughter. We ordered the boudin balls to start, she ordered the little shrimper boil and I ordered the burger. The boudin balls came to the table they looked good, but when I used my fork to cut it open, I was greeted by a ball of frozen boudin filling. My daughter cut hers open and it was still frozen. It's safe to say these are from the freezer. I alerted my server and she took them back. We opted not to have them replaced. No manager came to talk to us to apologize for receiving frozen food. We shortly received our meals. My daughter's boil was as hot and she enjoyed it. My burger and waffle fries were lukewarm. I attempted to eat it , but I prefer my food hot. I ate 2-3 bites of the burger and a few fries and called it quits. The quality of the food I received explains the empty parking lot. When this place was BBTex I felt like the food was much better. The chips and salsa were unique. I ordered the etoufee and it was decent. The toast that came with the etoufee was really good!! I wouldn't order the etoufee again. Look, I'm not one to complain. But to see that this location has 4.4 star. I would assume, it's a good place. Unfortunately this place is only getting a single star out of me. Customer Service - As someone who was in food service, a smile is the first thing you could provide customers. Not one of our interactions with our waiter had a smile, nor was she enthusiastic. Even asking her for recommendations, she wasn't able to provide any positive feedback on the menu items; that should have been the first sign to leave! The food was amazing! They have awesome daily specials and their HH is great. The flavor was amazing. The prices even better. Oysters are on HH as well. The service was great! Decided to try a new restaurant and stopped on in. Upon arrival, the hostess was very unenthusiastic and slow moving, but not rude. After about five minutes, we were led to our table and met by our server, Lex. She was awesome! She was knowledgeable on the and was always available with refills. When I say BBS has the best crawfish I've had in San Antonio, I mean that with my whole heart... and my burning taste buds. I always order it as spicy as they'll possibly make it because if you're not questioning your life choices halfway through the bag, are you even eating crawfish correctly? My family and I went not too long ago for my birthday and it was honestly the perfect place to celebrate. The spice level had my nose running, my eyes watering, and me still going back for more like I had something to prove. On top of the amazing food, the restaurant itself was super clean and the lighting and decorations are always fun to look at. It's one of those places where the atmosphere just makes you feel comfortable and ready to hang out for a while. Our server was incredibly sweet and made sure everyone at the table was taken care of the whole time. She checked on us often, kept the good vibes going, and made the experience even better. Overall, amazing food, great service, and a fun environment. She told us about these $5.00 frozen drinks (see pic). This drink was delicious! We ordered oysters, a shrimp boil, and the Rockdale Redfish -- all were so good but the Redfish was excellent. This was our first time trying this place. It was amazing. When we walked in, there were ton of seata visible but were told that it would take 20-30 minutes before we were to be seated. It maybe took 10. We were able to look at a menu while we waited which made the food come faster. We got a waitress who was training someone. Both were helpful and kept brining us refills. I have never have New Orleans style food before. The food was amazing. Everything we got had a lot of flavor. Not too powerful and not too many flavors at once. We had a appetizer, meal and a dessert. As much as I would love to eat the same items again, I need to try the other items. Three of us got sick. Had to send the chicken tenders back because they were not cooked all the way. The platter I ordered was $29.99 and honestly worth half that amount. I do have to say that the Staff is wonderful. The Hostess seated us right away even though the rest of our party had not arrived. Our Server was very genuine and embarrassed that the chicken was a health hazard. We went there because of all the good reviews so hopefully this was a rare occurrence. We ventured to @bbstexorleans in the Alamo Ranch area for Sunday lunch. Yareli was our server who took good care of us. Dad had Lemonade, Hubby had Arnold Palmer, and I had Unsweet Tea. Unfortunately after this experience we are never returning to this established due to the subpar food quality provided. When we first dined here, we enjoyed the food but it's been a year since we been here. We came into SA to visit so we took our family out for Cajun food. This place was a hit last time we were here. We ordered our favorites which are the shrimp platter, fish ceviche, and gumbo. Shrimp platter : 1/5 super greasy and flavorless. The shrimp was definitely imported and was super chewy. Shrimp was definitely not from the coast. Cole slaw was awful and tasted bitter and odd. Fish ceviche:5/5 this ceviche batch was better than last time we had this dish here. The balance in acid was to perfection. I love that this balance was more lime forward. Highly recommend this dish here. Chips are freshly fried and paired well with ceviche. Gumbo: 1/5 I wanted to send this gumbo back but my husband wouldn't allow me to. Instead he insisted he eat it. (He hates food waste). First off they literally poured butter on top of the gumbo. It was runny and was not thick. There were only a couple shrimp in there and was more of a soup consistency than a thick gumbo. Flavors were off and tasted nothing like gumbo. From the picture you can see how greasy it was . Do I recommend this place? No. Only thing I recommend here is the ceviche. That's it. The water tasted off too . read more

They gave us a free appetizer coupon so we'd "give them another chance". We were told they have a new kitchen staff and we were not the only complaint tonight. Saw this restaurant featured on a local food show so decided to give it a try. It's a lively restaurant with a busy bar and plenty of TVs throughout. We were seated immediately on a Thursday evening for dinner. Once our server came by to take drink order, we were given the complimentary chips and bean salsa. We started with appetizers of fried pickles and Cajun empanadas. The pickles were pretty standard, but the Cajun empanadas were really good. The Morgan City pasta was pretty bland and lacking on crawfish. You do have an option to add another protein for an additional charge. The shrimp and grits were presented beautifully. I was a bit underwhelmed with the dish. It was pretty good. However, I was a bit thrown off as to why cheese grits had whole kernels of corn through the grits, and the shrimp was a bit overcooked. The most disappointing of all the dishes was Lloyd's crawfish etoufee. There was so much grease in the dish that it had to be skimmed out. The flavor was on point but that grease was a big turn off. Try: Mama B's Famous Shrimp & Grits. Why: Grilled jumbo shrimp, smothered in andouille cream sauce over a bed of cheese grits. I liked the cream sauce and smother the shrimp in it. I got a side of Collared Greens, which hit the spot after a few years of not having it. The Bacon wrapped Chicken stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeños with a side of Cajun cream sauce were good but I was hoping for more pop on flavor. I was pleasantly surprised with complimentary Chips & Bean Dip, which came out right after we ordered drinks. I washed everything down with a refreshing Alamo Ale. Notes: There was a 15 min wait around 7pm on a weekend even though we saw many open tables - they seemed short staffed and/or had reservations. We decided to eat at bar since there was no wait. I ordered a whole fried Turkey a few days ago and picked it up this evening. Was told the turkeys weigh from about 9 to 13 pounds. The price doesn't change and that should have given me a clue. The turkey is not much bigger than a whole roasted chicken. Called them to ask if they were sure I got a turkey and they said yes and sorry. They nailed everything except the most important part--the flavor balance. Cajun food is supposed to be bold and seasoned, not just salty. This is a pretty clear sign the seasoning mix or boil was off that day. The fact that the manager remade it and it was still too salty tells me it might not be a one-off mistake--it could be how they normally prep their boil (a lot of places use heavy pre-mixed Cajun seasoning + salted butter sauces, and it stacks up fast). Next time to avoid that same problem: Next time I will ask for "light seasoning" or "no extra seasoning" up front or Request sauce on the side instead of tossed in it read more

Great band and service. Restaurant was clean and inviting. Unique menu items and the bathrooms were clean. The art on the walls was phenomenal and everyone was so friendly and nice. Okay, first off: my apologies for not taking any photos during our visit to BB's Tex Orleans. That said, I really liked the look of the exterior. It gives off a homey bayou vibe, almost like something you'd find on the streets of New Orleans, with café aesthetics that catch the eye from outside. Inside, the space is quite large. It could probably benefit from a redesign to better utilize all that open room. I'm no expert, but there's definite potential there. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by authentic Cajun music playing throughout the restaurant. It immediately set a festive mood and really added to the experience so much so that I ended up playing some Cajun mixes on the ride home! The Food: We started with the Boudin Balls, Creole-style dirty rice with pork and spices, rolled in panko breadcrumbs and lightly fried. They came with a chipotle remoulade and were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend these as a starter. The shrimp po' boy was generous--easily enough for two people. So if that's your thing, come hungry! We also tried the chicken and sausage gumbo. It wasn't super spicy, but it had a satisfying Cajun kick and depth of flavor. I ordered the Morgan City Pasta, also known as Maw Maw's famous "No Wonder Y'all So Fat" crawfish fettuccine Alfredo. It came with a choice of salad (I went with the house salad; very fresh, and the caesar dressing was great). The pasta was served hot and topped with bits of crawfish mixed right into the Alfredo sauce. You can choose between grilled chicken or shrimp--I went with grilled chicken. It also came with two pieces of French bread. Overall, a rich and hearty dish that definitely hit the spot. Atmosphere & Bar: The bar is in a separate dining area with a cool vibe and decor that feels like something straight out of the bayou. But on a Saturday night, it felt a little...quiet. The bar was open, but it didn't seem like people were really taking advantage of it. I'm not sure why, because the space has potential. I'm definitely interested in going back to try their Hurricane and the South Texas Jazz cocktails. Final Thoughts: While my overall rating might not be the highest, I genuinely enjoyed the experience. I'd come back, especially if the owners make a few tweaks to the interior layout and atmosphere. The food is a good 8/10 but it's one of the best "cajun" food spots I've been to in SA. It's marketed as a New Orleans inspired place, the staff I spoke to definitely fit the attitude perfectly with that. Flat out rude. I was told these two bowls are the same size and price. They definitely aren't the same size I work in the food industry. When you walk in it is very homey it's nice. The music isn't too loud either. I would not come back for Togo ever again just because of how rude the staff were. Definitely will be coming back to eat in though and hope I don't get the same server. The gulf coast oysters were a decent size and were very good (I mean, we ate 3 dozen!). Queso was good and the fish ceviche were good. Service was quick and our waitress was friendly. Someone left a review saying that the water tastes weird.. turns out they are right! I don't recommend eating here and don't understand how their rating is high. Tried to have dinner at a place where we had visited before with at least marginal results. The restaurant was maybe 50% empty, but there was still a 25-30 min wait (they were understaffed). We were seated 40-45 min later, and after ordering our food we finally got our appetizer (Boudin Balls) 40 minutes later (they were already cold because it had been sitting). When weasked to speak to a manager, they never showed up. Around this time another group came in, were seated and within 5 minutes had their appetizers and 5 minutes later their entrees. When we asked about our order our server was very nonchalant, and expressed no concern or urgency. We finally cancelled our order. When we asked to speak with the manager again, they were extremely dismissive, and didn't even apologize for wasting our time. Don't waste your time here if you value your time and have an expectation for at least average customer service. There are other places which have better food and service.
