I have been coming here over 20 years. I would always remember seeing the owner either having a glass of wine or eating at the bar always welcoming us. I've been coming here still with my family, friends and people I care about. I will continue to come as long as I can and as long as they're there, service is always on point. Sometimes we do have to wait a little, but that's understandable due to the great food came today for Mother's Day with my family to celebrate as always was good to see the food is dill and will always be great. I heard great things about this place from The Pres... 7.7 sounded like I needed to check it out. I got a large pie and a sicilian pie. Both with 1/2 pepperoni. Very good! I knocked out 2 of each. My main purpose for this review was to recommend something to the "chef" vs. detailing how we felt about the food. I'm sure the place is enjoyed by so many as they seem to have a following and my friends love it...so we joined them for our "annual" visit. My meal came with "ROASTED POTATOES" which i expected to be the highlight of the dish as that "side" is one of my favorites. What came out, for both of our dishes, was apparently boiled-like potatoes, sliced, with ZERO crispiness or browning and still "white-ish"!?. Roasted potatoes are usually quartered, well-done, flavored and unmistakable. Service was friendly...Drink prices reasonable. PS: The Bronzino was smothered with bread crumbs which did nothing for it and i told my friend she was spoiled at Fine Italian Bronzino elsewhere and should not have tried it. read more

Revisited Bazzarelli yesterday after many years. I found it was mediocre at best back then and sadly that has not changed. Will not return. Arugula salad was drenched in vinegar. Seafood oreganata plate was lifeless with the cod drenched in oil, clams were not fresh and overdone, shrimp tasted like cardboard. I could not finish the glass of Sauvignon Blanc. My girlfriend enjoyed the penne vodka and the wine, I think she was really hungry and desperate. $86 for 2 and I was regretting it. read more

This is a family owned business by folks that came from Calabria, Italy. As being first generation Italian-American with parents that immigrated from Calabria, I had high expectations of the food. I was not disappointed in the least. The salmon and the chicken francese dishes were amazing. Generous portions and delicious sauces. We had a side of meatballs for our daughter and they were huge and also delicious. They tasted exactly how my mother makes her meatballs and she is an excellent home cook according to my entire family. The wait staff were extremely friendly and the owner even had a small bouquet of flowers brought to all of the mothers in the restaurant - a very nice touch. For those of you that follow Dave Portnoy's One Bite Pizza reviews on social media, this place got a 7.7 from Dave on their pizza - a very good score. This place isn't fancy, and it doesn't need to be. Warm, cozy, atmosphere. This place is a go-to for Italian food in the area and we believe it is a hidden gem. Last night, my girlfriend and I went here and, although crowded, the staff was super attentive. Every single one of them was polite and friendly. Calamari was clearly fresh and done perfectly. Escarole and bean soup tastes exactly the same every time, and it's one of our favorites on a cold night. Veal Bazzarelli was our of this world and was a generous portion. My girlfriend was very pleased with her Eggplant Rollatini and side of meatballs. For dessert, tiramisu and limoncello were wonderful and delicious. We will be returning much more frequently. I was in town for a work meeting and was excited to taste the local Italian food. I would not categorize this food as Italian. The ravioli was alright and cooked well but sauce was bland. Also they didn't have parmesan! The ambiance was non existent and the service staff was nice but aloof. I used to come to this restaurant a lot when I first moved to the area 18 years ago. Then, the food was good and service was ok. I just recently visited and was very disappointed. The service was awful. I went at an off-time (@4:00) and there was only 1 other table occupied on our side of the restaurant. Yet, the service was slow, non-attentive (never asked if we wanted refills) and there was an attitude from the server when the person I was with was sorting out the check (which we had to ask someone else to fetch her from the other room where she had been running her mouth with other customers for a long time and left ours and other tables waiting for her). The most attentive person working was the bread girl and a woman with long black hair was pleasant when she passed through. The food was also bland and tasteless. I had BAKED spinach ravioli that looked microwaved to melt the little cheese there was on it. Usually, a baked Italian meal comes in the vessel it was baked in. This came on a plate it was microwaved in or the food was slid onto it. There were no baked cheese parts at all (the best part!). Regardless, we tipped the server an undeserved 20% after she nastily implied a $5 tip wasn't enough on the @$55 check ((some of that was a take-to-go pizza!) (We knew that! The elder lady who was paying was still taking money out of her wallet and wanted to know how much she had already put in the bill folder that the server had already snatched and counted). After all, it is the holidays so I told my friend to give her another $5. The server is lucky I didn't snap at her since I didn't want my elder friend to get even more rattled than she already made her. The server should consider it another gift from me. Merry Christmas! We were up for some local Italian cuisine, therefore we decided head over to Bazzarelli's. Bazzerelli's is great for pizza (take-out) as well as dining-in. Their margherita pizza is fab...I've ordered it several times over the years and truth be told, I've almost eaten the whole thing myself on more than one occasion. For appetizer, we split the fried calamari (as per). They always do it up right here...never over-fried and the marinara always possesses just the right amount of sweetness and kick. The King ordered the Osso Bucco (special) and I ordered the Zuppa di Clams (red). The Osso was nearly the size of his head and it was falling off of the bone. He was "oohing" and "ahhing" like crazy. He gave me a microscopic piece to try...that shows how much he loved it...he wanted it all for himself, that stinker! My entrée was excellent as well. The clams were fresh and there were a lot of them. Right on! We decided to pass on dessert, but I should mention that they have a bowl of those tasty chocolate covered mints by the door. I could eat those sugar-bombs all night long. They will satisfy any lingering sweet-craving that you might have. On Thursday night, Bazzarelli's now offers 15% off wine bottles. Some exclusions apply, but from what I saw, most wine bottles were covered. I should also mention that they offer gluten-free pasta. Great neighborhood restaurant that makes you feel right at home. Service is always friendly and I always leave with a smile on my face. Don't worry if the parking lot is full...you can park in the lot directly across the street. read more

Went here tonight to celebrate mom's 93rd birthday. She loves Italian, so Italian it was. We got there just before the crowds arrived. After being seated our waiter Paul came over. We ordered the house Cab, and did my usual, asked what was good on the menu. We went right for the entrees bc we heard the portions were big. The orders were pretty common: Cavatelli Bolognese, Veal Parmesan with penne, and I had the special Ossa Bucco with rigatoni. All came with salad. All was excellent and filling. The Cavatelli could have been more al dente, but the flavors of the meat sauce were superb. Cannoli and carrot cake for dessert were fresh and wonderful. Our waiter Paul was so nice and helpful, and kissed mom after singing happy birthday with her candled cannoli (see pic). I have to say all was great! Even their prices are very reasonable. On my quest for local pizza my wife and i came to Bazzarelli, we were seated rather quickly. We ordered a small Margarita pie, polenta app and chicken fracese w/ a side of ziti. Polenta came out in two squares, covered in sauce and mozzarella. Polenta was good, sauce was on the verge of burnt, i hate to say it but it tasted as if it came out of the micorwave. Overall maybe bc we were really hungry but we ate it all, it was ok, not terrible or great. Pizza came out, looked great, the dough was either old, or overworked, it was hard, not crunchy, not chewy just hard. sauce was underseasoned, possibly from a can,. UGH! We took the leftovers to go, the next day added some grated cheese & hot sauce, microwaved for 30 seconds, it was actually better than the day prior. lol Chicken & pasta came out, chicken was pale white, pasta was pale white and sauce was bright red like it came from a can, funny thing, the chicken was actually really good, tender, buttery and lemony. pasta was blah. Great local Italian fare here. They really don't specialize in any particular region but they do carry all of the dishes that you grew up on. I'm obviously not Italian, but you can't say that the Italian culture does not seep into your life if you grew up on northern New Jersey. I recently had lunch here with a friend and remembered why I used to frequent this place when I lived in the area. I ordered the Chicken Marsala and she had Vodka Penne. Both dishes were excellent and accompanied with bread, salads and veggies. The service is professional and courteous. But you should come to expect that from a restaurant that's been around as long as they have. I've never had a bad meal here. I would also recommend this place for a romantic dinner as there are many tables to accommodate you and your sweetheart. This is place isn't as popular as I think it should be, and I hope it stays that way. It's so nice not to have to wait for a table in restaurant that executes as well as they do. For appetizer we ordered Hot Antipasto (assortment of broiled stuffed clams, shrimps, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed artichoke heart and eggplant rollatini), which was huge for $10.95 and supa delicious! For entrees I tried Vitello Bazzareli (Veal scaloppini sauteed in white wine and capers and layerd with prosciutto/ham and melted mozzarella) and my gf ordered Linguini Al Pesce. The veal was soft, thin layered and tasty. However the whole dish was a little salty due to the ham. My gf enjoyed her seafood and linguini. Both entrees were HUGE and came with salad/soup. We had a hard time finishing even 2/3 of our food. In order to save room for dessert, we decided to take the leftover home. Dessert was great deal. We shared tiramisu, which was quite decent. I also tried their tartofu, which was amazing. All dessert are $4.50. What a steal! Monday night is pasta night. 1 pasta + 1 glass of house wine + 1 salad = $13.95. One of the best italian places for lunch in this area! I order here at least once a week at the very minumum even though my work place has its own cafeteria. Its one of those mom and pop places where you get a good portion at a very good price. The food tastes very homemade and not the usual commercial crap. Just went here for the first time to celebrate my parent's anniversary, and I had low expectations based on most recent reviews. Maybe that's why I was so pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. The server took a lil while to attend to us at first, but all the food was excellent and well priced. We got a bottle of the Estella Cab Sauv and it was the priciest thing we ordered at $25. Dad had the lasagna (seemed very heavy on the noodles with thin layers of meat sauce- not ground beef), mom had the penne in a pink sauce with peas (very mild with a hint of mascarpone) and I had the rigatoni bolognese. I ordered it with fresh ricotta and they didn't charge me extra! I got the cheese as a buffer in case the Bolognese wasn't good, but it was unnecessary bc the meat sauce was delicious. All in all a great experience minus the loud, clangy atmosphere- they could do with some carpet or curtains to break up the din. read more
