We still laugh about this one, which is a shame, as we absolutely hate leaving negative reviews. We know many businesses have it hard right now, but the 1-star review I am leaving here is warranted. There's no other way to put it. Parking lot was relatively empty, which gave us pause. However, everybody has a slow night once in a while. We gave it a try anyway. I liked the decor. Somewhat rustic, somewhat traditional Italian. The seating area was a rather open space, which we also liked. Things went downhill from here. Waitress came over and asked if we'd like some garlic bread while we looked at the menu. Sure, sounds great, right? This bread will come into play later on in my review. Order drinks. The wife ordered wine, I ordered an old fashioned. My cocktail was poorly done. As we sat, a karaoke night began, and it is clear there are some regulars for this. Why karaoke night runs during dinner hours is beyond me. Took quite some time for the waitress to return to take appetizer orders. Those took a while to come out. Calamari was overdone and chewy. Karaoke night was still blaring in the background. Took quite a bit of time for our meals to arrive. Sadly, they were just unremarkable, and karaoke night was now in full tilt with the same four or five singers taking turns at this point while the restaurant remained relatively empty. We skip dessert, ask for bill, and it takes quite some time to come. The garlic bread I mentioned before is on there for $12.00! This was slick, I'll give them that. Overpriced, unremarkable food in an unenjoyable atmosphere. If you want true Italian, go to Bazzarrelli. Half the price, quadruple the quality. read more

Truthfully I would skip eating at Al Di La. In New Jersey where there's an Italian restaurant on every corner, trust me you can find better. Much better. The service was so poor here. Our waiter took well over a half hour to take our order. He kept completely disappearing. He also forgot food in our order - I'm still waiting for it.... Drinks were terrible and horrendously overpriced for the quality. They also took over a half hour to be served We asked for some more juice to water some drinks down to be palatable and they even changed for this. A literal mouthful of juice. This was definitely one of the restaurants you don't judge by it's location or sign which you can not see unless your standing in front of the restaurant. We walked in almost to walk out but I'm sure happy we stayed. We were greeted by a gentleman who was most likely the owner & sat down promptly and they knew we needed a fast dinner service since we went to a concert at Met Life Stadium which is near by. For appetizers we had the Caesar Salad, tomato & mozzarella, Angelina Kisses & the rice balls they were all surprisingly delicious. For dinner I had the Pork Chop with arugula which was huge perfectly prepared but lacked salt. The Chicken Parm was plentiful & delicious. Grandma Sunday sauce was good with nice soft meatballs & sausage. We ordered a side order of Penne with Vodka & that was the best dish. The desserts looked amazing but unfortunately we were out of time. They have a beautiful new party room in the back. The restaurant doesn't like Italian it has more of a bar atmosphere. We went to Al Di La (Dominick's) on Mother's Day. The wait staff was very courteous and attentive. Even though it was a set menu, the food was outstanding. The Veal Gormand over tagliatelli was amazing. I highly recommend it. I especially enjoyed sitting near the terrace, with the daylight coming in. We have been to this restaurant several times including New Year's Eve and a small party for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The food and service have always been fantastic. read more

Went here on 5/22. They had live musical guest Bobby Valli brother of Frankie. And he was awesome!! We had an amazing time. All the appetizers were amazing (Calamari, artichoke franchise, general chos cauliflower, and a shrimp appetizer.) Our dinners were outstanding huge portions I got the filet medallions with grilled vegetables and a light sauce it was enough to take home and eat the next day. I also had cheesecake and a chocolate martini for dessert. The wait for drinks and food took a bit but they were busy and our waitress was amazing so it didn't bother us. COVID TAKE OUT REVIEW: I've only been to this restaurant two times and the both times I was there, the food did not disappoint. I've seen this place while passing by Rt. 17 a lot and it doesn't look like much but if you drive to the other side, they have a patio and ample parking space. I saw a big tent in the back so they are doing outdoor dining/patio dining. The owner/chef is there most of the time and the food there have been great every time. I've decided to call and order for pick up and they had my food ready in about 40 minutes. I ordered 3 entrees, 1 appetizer, and a salad and total was $78. It was packaged nicely in foil tins and plastic wrapped. They gave it to me in a cardboard box. Go check out their page on FACEBOOK. They just started doing karaoke night and seems to have COVID family meal deals as well. Call ahead and ask for their latest updates though. It's been hard for restaurants to survive in this tough climate and I wish I could support more businesses. The restaurant decor is old school Italian restaurant. It's warm and comfortable. The service is good and the delicious food comes out greasy and hot. The food is prepared to order and they use top shelf ingredients. The portions are big and the drinks are great. Service was awful last night. 4 of us were seated by 7:00 (we had reservations) placed our order for 1 appetizer and 4 dinners by 7:30. We waited over an hour for the appetizer that a different waitress bought to us. Our waiter was to busy bull shitting & flirting with customers at the bar. We didn't get our meals until after 9:00. 1 person in our party wanted a separate check, he wound up giving us all separate checks (no problem) except he put the appetizer on my bill, still no big deal. However, I had 2 sodas and they charged me for 2 most places don't. Then on top of that they automatically applied a 20% tip. So in other words because they automatically apply the tip some servers don't give a damn because they know they're getting a tip no matter what. read more

The Wait staff however was not great - or even very good. The steps in ordering had a long gap in between each step : menu, ordering drinks, ordering food, food arriving, menu finally removed, checking if we required anything else, informing us of the $25 minimum per person (should have been first), getting an extra order to meet the minimum, The bill came fast enough once we dragooned one of the waiters to hurry our bill along (I had an appointment elsewhere to get to), Never brought back the change by the time we left (and I schmoosed with an old friend for a good 15minutes waiting). I have only gotten take out one time from this place and the only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 1 is that when I ordered takeout and brought the food home, they had forgotten my long hots which was the one item I was super excited for since you can't get them anywhere, it's a dish you have to make from scratch. I had called them up and they apologized and offered for me to come get them, but since it was a special occasion at home with my husband, I figured I would just take the refund. We came here this past weekend for a baptism party and wow what a gorgeous space! It was such a pleasant surprise walking inside and seeing the really high, exposed ceilings. It was super chic and ornate. I loved the look of the wrought iron fence around the stairs... Walking into the place outside there was a sign that boasted the "best vodka sauce in NJ". We laughed a bit at this and we're questioning how they came to that conclusion since it didn't explain anything further about their claim. My husband and I love vodka sauce and it definitely was really good. Most of the food was really excellent. I enjoyed the fried calamari, chicken parm and rigatoni vodka the most. Both were excellent, and the commonality was the AMAZING red sauce. It is ON POINT, and probably the best I have ever had dining out. Met and spoke with owner/chef Domenick last night. Very personable and he makes it a point to work the room. Service is a little slow, but to be honest I kinda like it. I don't like being rushed, and that certainly wasn't the case.
