My family's first time dining out since covid. We specifically went here cuz fried chicken is supposed to be eaten fresh out of the kitchen. We ordered 2 of the 2 flavored wings. One we picked was spicy and the other not spicy. My husband who doesn't like spicy was able to eat the Gangnam with no problem. To me it was not spicy at all. The hot spicy wings was pretty spicy but not too spicy that you can't enjoy it. I like that one the best since the sauce is perfect and the crunch is light and crispy. The non spicy ones were meh. Honey garlic was way too sweet. The galbi was good but also on the sweet side with an added soy flavor. Overall all 3 chicken wing texture we light and crunchy with the exception of the Gangnam. The kimchi fried rice was ok not bad. Their fries is good. If I come again I will order just the hot spicy wings and maybe try the other flavors. The golden olive chicken I think is the base of all the sauced chickens but that is my guess. Something to note is that they offer reservation on their website but I was declined both times I tried to reserved there. Then I called and they took my reservation. Turned out to be a little bit more pricey than I anticipated, but it was definitely worth it. We got the soy garlic and the secret sweet wings and the tteokbokki. The tteokbokki was pretty good but wasn't anything special. The soy garlic wings weren't the greatest and the soy sauce flavor was a little bit too strong for my liking (which is the only reason why I'm not giving this place 5 stars), but the secret sweet wings were incredible. The chicken was the perfect amount of crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside and took up the flavor of the sauce without having to be coated in it. I've ordered take out from this location many times and the wings were good, as you would expect from any BBQ Chicken franchise. They're crispy and tasty in both plain and sauced form. Two stars for maintaining brand guidelines. But, on my one and only time I've tried to eat dine-in here, it was a terrible experience. The staff need more training and courtesy at this location. Our waiter had a terribly negative mentality, saying things like: 1. "I'm not sure if we have Hite beer towers, just scan the QR code and what we have is listed on the menu" 2. "I can't put in your drink orders without food, the system won't let me" 3. "We only take Mass IDs" My group got over the first two poorly delivered statements. Number 3 was the tipping point though. I've never had an MA ID, not even when I was 21 and still in college. Not once was I ever denied a drink for an out of state ID, and to be honest, these days I look quite old. Not once did our waiter try to help or find a solution. Because of his attitude, we left without ordering. I've gotten wings before and they left me a little disappointed, but I tried their boneless and it's great when you're a little lazy. It's COVID time, which also means it's Crash Landing On You on Netflix time. And in this K-Drama (as many of you know), BB.Q Olive Chicken makes many a gratuitous sponsored appearance. How my wife and I lamented repeatedly that we didn't live in Seoul to experience the same delicious crispiness that Ri Jeong Hyeok and Sergeant Pyo got to experience.... ...only for us to finally realize that BB.Q Olive had in fact opened in Boston a few years ago?!?! What's really quite astonishing is how accurately the k-drama represented the deliciousness of the chicken. Whereas most K-dramas depict highly overdramatized and/or idealized depictions of romance, the K-drama depiction of BB.Q Olive is actually true to life. It IS that beautiful, flavorful, delicious. I have tried the olive wings, honey garlic, and gangnam style wings. They olive and honey garlic wings stay crispy and delicious even after long delivery time. I like how flaky the batter is for. the olive wings. The honey garlic is sweet and savory, it goes perfectly with a side of rice or french fries. I like the flavors of the gangnam style wings. It is a little spicy and the sauce can make the wings a little soggy. You can order through Grubhub or directly through the Yelp app. It took me awhile to find this place on Grubhub because the place is named "Bb.q Chicken." Had high hopes about the chicken - reviews were okay and photos looked good, but I ignored the warnings about how terrible the service was. Bibimbap review - have yet to try their Korean Fried Chicken. The interior is very casual and inviting - bright colors, airy space, and friendly hosts and wait staff. I decided to try this place on a whim for lunch one day and ordered the bulgogi bibimbap. First off, I was surprised by the portion size and the amount of food you get for $10 - that might be because I ordered takeout, but I assume the portions are similar if you dine-in as well. There was a generous amount of beef, eggs, onions, sprouts, mushrooms, carrots, and spinach, all laid upon a bed of delicious white rice. The spicy bibimbap sauce on top was amazing, I wish I had a bucket of that deliciousness! The base of the sauce is gochujang, which is Korean red hot pepper paste. That being said, the dish was spicy, but not overly so. Overall, the food was delicious. I'd love to come back and try their fried chicken. The chicken here is made to order, which increases wait time but honestly so worth it. Each piece is covered, fried, and tossed to perfection. Because it's a double fry, the inside of the chicken is cooked so that it remains tender and juicy. One note, a lot of the sauces kind of resemble one another or have an underlying spicy note that is not mentioned on the menu. Not a bad thing if your expecting it, but for those who aren't it can be a surprise. The only side worth mentioning is the bulgogi poutine. It's made with tater tots, cheese, bulgogi, kimchi, and an egg. Not really sure if it should be called an authentic poutine but it taste great! Hands down would recommend. They have a lunch special that runs all week long and is honestly quite worth. Your choice of chicken and then two sides. If you happen to come at a time where you can't get this, be advised that portions are fairly big. Overall really love this place, the inside is dark and roomy and they have different seatings for groups that range from small to large. I got takeout from BBQ Chicken during a weekday afternoon during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have never had it before, though I had heard great things from friends. Boy, does that friend have bad taste. My boyfriend and I ordered from DoorDash and expected to have a really good meal to end the weekend. Our order was supposed to be ready by 8:11pm however the unexpected happened. My boyfriend and I arrived around 8:05pm and asked if our order was ready and they gave us very confused faces. I stated that I was picking up my order from DoorDash and they still were very confused. Low and behold, my order wasn't even prepared and they said to give me a minute from them to prepare the meal. While trying to put in my order last minute, I saw one of the kitchen people use his phone while using gloves. During these unprecedented times with the novel coronavirus, I believe that they should be handling this situation seriously and practice being hygienic for the safety of their customers. I was not only disgusted but uncomfortable with this situation. In light of this, I was then told that my order could not be made due to the gas in their fryer machine having a malfunction. Tried this place for the first time and I like this place a lot better than Bonchon. (To be fair, I'm not a fan of Bonchon to begin with). Their batter and sauces are different. This place has a lot more flavors to choose from for the chicken. SECRET SWEET CHICKEN- I really like how they give you thighs in addition to the drumsticks and wings here. The secret sweet sauce was a very stick, sweet sauce. The closest I can compare it to is the sauce that goes onto sweet and sour pork. The chicken pieces were big and comes with a side of radish. CHEESE DUKBOKKI - Ok this was probably the best dukbokki I've had in Boston!! It's squishy rice cakes smothered in a spicy sauce. It wasn't overly spicy, and comes with cheese and fish cakes. BBQ Olive reminds me of the quality of fried chicken I would get in Asia. I've had a variety of different wings on the menu but I think my favorite is the original. There's something so delicious about the taste from simply being fried in olive oil. The chicken is always juicy and the size of the wings never disappoints. Not the biggest fan of the gangnam wings though; the batter gets really soggy and starchy from sitting in a wet sauce - not the most pleasant texture. I have gone here two times to dine-in and for takeout. I highly recommend eating in if you are getting their fried chicken because it is best when it's hot. The cheeseling fried chicken, which has cheese powder on it, is one of my favorite flavors. It isn't overly cheesy but it has a nice taste to it that kind of melts in your mouth because of the powder. The poutine is also very good, but it is extremely fattening. Although it is a little pricy at $12, the portion you get is ginormous and you can definitely share it with 3 or 4 people. This was also one of my favorite dishes at this restaurant. I am a HUGE fan of Korean wings, which are double-fried to stay extra crispy, even when coated in sauce...or taking a trip to my house via Uber Eats. This was my fourth time getting BBQ chicken delivered, the first three times were crispy and delicious. Today, SO SOGGY. Really gross, not consistent with prior times, or how Korean fried chicken should hold up. Not the Uber's fault - the order arrived early. Got half-half, not sure how they managed to get the Cheeseling to be soggy. The gangnam style is spongy, could not be rehabilitated in the toast oven. I'm very disappointed. Not recognizable as Korean fried chicken. Last time, we got Cheeseling and soy garlic. I ordered too much, it stayed crispy over the weekend, even cold, after a day or two in the fridge! I hope they improve, their wings are much bigger and more meaty than much of the competition, particularly Bon Chon, and I like the variety of flavors. Gave it three stars because the establishment's main attraction (chicken) isn't that great. If you want great fried chicken, go to Only One in Dorchester. BUT this is still worth the try. Here's why: No line when I got here on a Sunday. I ordered the soy garlic chicken and it satisfied my fried chicken craving. But the technique of frying the chicken is definitely not on par with Bon Chon chicken. Though crispy, the seasoning on the batter was plain and it really relied on the sauce to bring it together. It ain't fried chicken from New Orleans that's for sure. But if you are tired of waiting through the long lines to get to Bon Chon chicken, I recommend coming here instead. What I LOVE about this place is the other Korean dishes they serve. If you like spicy food I definitely recommend getting the Cheese Duk-Bokki. The cheese duk-bokki is SO much better than anywhere I've tasted. You've got the chewy tender rice cakes, fish cakes, hard boiled egg, scallions, and kimchi all swimming in that hot pepper paste sauce. Absolutely horrific establishment. As a Korean American who lived in Korea for some time and also lived in Los Angeles for 20 years, this BBQ chicken in Boston is disgusting and insulting to any respectable Korean palate. Let's go over the list: 1. The fried chicken batter is too thick and chicken runs too watery (possibly from defrosting process?). Disgusting. 2. The hot sauce is not spicy enough. Yet, the servers insult you by dissuading you not to get the hot/spicy chicken because they think it will be "too spicy" for us. Ha! It tasted like spicy ketchup and it was not spicy enough. 3. Customer service is abysmal. Out of my fifth visits, they managed to mess up my order every single time. No apologies, yet handful of attitudes and apathy. Take outs is a mess. I did two take outs here and they forgot radish (moo) both times. Honestly, their competitors Bonchon is just as bad so I am out of option for Korean chicken. Anyone have suggestion? P.S. Their manager doesn't even like their own food, which is laughable and validates everything I said above. The manager said, "I like BonChon better than here" when we asked about their competitor. If you actually think this place is good, then KFC is right up your alley. Update: regarding the manager's comment- I have not ordered nor visited the establishment without a friend or two in presence. This means that I have witnesses to back up my story. I was initially skeptical about trying this place given the average Yelp ratings but I am happily surprised at how good their fried chicken is! Remember to get their sauced chicken over their wings because the price is roughly the same but their sauced chicken is wayyy better and more than twice as big. Their wings are pretty okay, nothing too special, but their sauced chicken was simply amazing! Each piece is perfectly crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside, the golden olive hot and spicy was quite spicy but nothing I can't handle, but if your spice tolerance is low I would recommend against it.
