bbq chicken has only been open for 2 days so the place was pretty empty. Ordered the Galbi 6 piece whole chicken for $16 and it's enough to feed 3 people, which is pretty good for specialty food. We also ordered the cheesling fries. They were surprisingly addictive. The staff was friendly and I enjoyed the vibe of the K-pop videos on the TV screens. Would have given 5 stars if the location was grouped with Fengcha and kickin crab. Too bad all of the Asian restaurants aren't grouped together to create a better hang out experience. To walk around and walk from spot to spot..But I will definitely be going back. Give them a try.

I placed a pickup order online. I got the lunch special of 8 pieces with a drink. The chicken was SO GOOD! I'm hooked. I wish I took a picture before I started tearing it up!

Food: Side dishes: the kimchi, cucumber kimchi, spicy fish cake were great. The salad was okay. The japchae noodles were mediocre. And the pickled daikon didn't taste like they used much vinegar. Dipping sauces were all great. Sesame oil, samjang blend, a sweet and spicy sauce. Meat: enjoyed the brisket, beef belly, pork belly, beef finger meat, Hawaiian pork belly. The Galbi marinade would have been better with the finger meat marinade. Overall had a great meal and would come again. Hopefully will be better staffed next time!

Came in around 4:30pm on a Sunday so it wasn't very busy at all. The ambience is what you can expect from a normal Gen location however there was nothing authentically Korean about this location compared to the Carrollton location. It felt like a gentrified culture grab that's dressing like a Korean restaurant for Halloween. My server was very friendly and helpful but unfortunately he looked pretty swamped trying to manage multiple tables. When we had put in our orders for food, it did take a little while for the uncooked meats to come out. Once we had cooked our first round, we unfortunately waited for like 20 minutes until our server came back to put in additional orders. During our 2 hours there, there was a lot of sitting around time with our grill burning the meat scraps waiting for a new grill top to be placed. This burning just caused more smoking and tinging of the nostrils. I had also asked for a drink refill which I had never received in the 2 hours I was there. When I asked for a to go cup instead since it was time to leave, I was given my soda refill in a plastic bag that had no business being drunk portably. The server was clearly overwhelmed and management needs to address the operations at this location. I also need to mention that we were just given a single pair of tongs and scissors to use our entire evening. You need to be prepared for cross contamination because your tongs will touch all of the raw meat. Next, I'll mention the quality of the meat itself. This place has unfortunately become a product of a struggling economy with increased prices for lower quality of food. Almost all of the meats we cooked had a powdery texture. I consider myself an expert on cooking at a Korean BBQ restaurant so I know I don't overcooked it but the texture left a lot to be desired. The flavors were fine and I did enjoy the kimchi and the Japchae noodles however that's where my enjoyment ends. As for the drinks, we ordered the Lychee Soju out of the pitcher and it was sweet and flavorful. I have read reviews of how Gen has really declined over the years and now I've gotten to experience that sheer disappointment. I can no longer recommend this place to anyone as I once have. I've been to this business several times in the past and I'm not sure what it'll take to win me back. Thanks for the memories!

The restaurant had a fun, welcoming vibe with cute décor, including a back seating area with swing-style chairs that made the experience feel unique and enjoyable. Unfortunately, what should have been a great dining experience was completely overshadowed by something I witnessed during my meal. In the middle of eating, I heard a loud yell that immediately caught the attention of everyone in the restaurant. In front of customers, a man I later learned was the manager Josh, who began to loudly berating a young employee. This wasn't a quick correction or a private conversation. He repeatedly yelled at her in front of a room full of people, calling her lazy, telling her she didn't know what she was doing, and even telling her to stop crying and "grow up." What stood out to me was that the employee never matched his energy. She did not yell back. She appeared upset, walked away to collect herself, and was visibly shaken. At one point she told him she didn't like the way he was speaking to her. His response was to tell her to leave. She gathered her belongings and left without raising her voice or being disrespectful. The entire situation was uncomfortable and upsetting to witness. The other employees looked terrified. No one spoke up, no one reacted, and several simply lowered their heads and continued working. The atmosphere gave the impression that this was not the first time something like this had happened. I understand that managers sometimes need to address performance issues, but there is a professional and respectful way to do that. Publicly humiliating an employee in front of customers is unacceptable. As a customer, I should never have to sit through a manager screaming at an employee while trying to enjoy a meal. The food deserves five stars. The service staff deserve five stars. However, the management experience was so disturbing that it completely changed the mood of my visit. I left feeling upset for that young employee and concerned for the rest of the staff. I sincerely hope the owner sees this review and addresses the situation. Leadership requires professionalism, emotional control, and respect. Until that happens, I honestly do not feel comfortable returning, regardless of how good the food is.

Hungry Belly on Fitzhugh is the kind of neighborhood spot that you go to when you need to eat…read moresomething excellent before doing something exciting, which is exactly what we did, because after dinner we were going to a Stars game and I had been thinking about it since Tuesday. The food was great. The belly fries arrived with bulgogi on top and I ate them with the energy of a man fueling up for battle, which I was, because American Airlines Center was forty five minutes away and I needed carbohydrates and I needed them now. The sushi was fresh, the portions were generous, the volcano roll did what the volcano roll always does which is arrive looking dramatic and deliver completely on the promise. Hungry Belly has been on Fitzhugh since 2019 doing Korean and Japanese and Chinese all under one roof with zero drama about it and a crab rangoon situation that I think about more than I am comfortable admitting publicly. But honestly the real review here is the hockey game. I grew up in Chicago. I know hockey the way people from Chicago know hockey, which is to say I know it enough to have opinions and not quite enough to fully back them up when someone like Jimmy from Kostas starts going deep on the neutral zone trap. But I know enough. I know enough to show up to American Airlines Center with the correct energy and the correct jersey and the correct plan of attack for the concession situation which I had mapped out before we even left the restaurant. Getting ready for a hockey game is its own ritual that I take seriously. It starts before dinner. It starts with checking the lineup, checking who is in net, checking the injury report like a man who has information that is going to change the outcome of the game somehow even though I am going to be sitting in the stands eating a pretzel and screaming things that the players cannot hear. I checked all of this while eating the belly fries. Multitasking. The jersey goes on before you leave the house. Not in the car. Not in the parking lot. At home, over whatever you are wearing, with the full commitment of a person who has chosen a side and wants the universe to know it. I put mine on over a Henley like a man who has been doing this his entire life because I have been doing this my entire life. We got to the arena with enough time to walk around, take in the atmosphere, stand next to other people in jerseys and nod at each other the way jersey people nod at each other, a small acknowledgment that says yes, we are the same, we are both here, we both checked the lineup. Got the pretzel. Got the drink. Found the seats. And then the puck dropped and everything that happened at Hungry Belly, the belly fries and the volcano roll and the crab rangoon I am not comfortable admitting I think about, all of it became the best possible pre-game meal I could have eaten because I was loud and full and completely ready and the Stars did not disappoint.
