The soup was not tasty . Their Angel Wings service was ok. The place was noisy from the conversations.

Sautéed Clams w/ Black Bean Sauce $18.99

Arrived at 6pm on Saturday and the place was kinda empty. Service was very friendly and attentive. It's a little cold here. Most tables seat 4 with one medium round table in the back and two bigger round tables to the side for large parties. I dunno that these dishes were the best choices and they all tasted pretty standard: $15.99 Sautéed Chinese Green w/ Garlic Sauce $18.99 Sautéed Clams w/ Black Bean Sauce $15.99 Supreme Chicken half $23.99 Crispy Fried Whole Flounder Sole -- this was the most expensive, yet there was hardly any meat on the fish $22.99 Roasted Pork & Oyster in Clay Pot -- this was the best dish and had LOTS of oysters $16.99 seafood soup (not pictured) Total price $131.34 for 6 -- I was definitely not full and in search of dinner #2...

Bitter melon with spareribs over rice
    Yvonne F.

Our first time to BBQ King. We arrived around 11am on a Friday and most of the tables were taken. We live in Sacramento and my sister lives in San Francisco and had been there years ago when she said there were different owners. They gave us the Breakfast menu but we requested for the lunch menu as we were interested in the rice plates! I ordered the Scrambled Eggs with shrimp over rice and the shrimp were extremely large and plentiful! My husband ordered the Bitter melon with spareribs over rice and he said the bitter melon was excellent as it was fresh and not frozen still crunchy and not overcooked! My sister had the choice of 2 over rice and she chose Roast Duck and Roast Pork. It looked like a 1/4 of a Duck but she would ask for the pork with some fatty because it was so lean that it was kind of dry. We can't wait to bring the family because they also have 2 large round tables. We all know what we're ordering next time we're in town. The place was very clean! Tables were cleaned up as soon as the customers left!

    BBQ Char Siu Pork

I really wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt even after hearing from others about the recent ownership change and renaming of this once-great BBQ place here on Irving, but sad to say, the word of mouth is correct. We sampled their BBQ Pork just to see... BBQ Char Siu Pork: Oh my, while the BBQ pork looks good, the pork seems of low quality and is tough. The marinade seems to just stick on the outside and feels slapped on after the fact, even though it probably isn't. Bottom line - it was tough, gritty and lacking in any serious flavor. I wish this was much better than it was. (Score: 1.8/5) Maybe we just chose the wrong thing on the menu, but any Chinese/Asian place that calls itself "BBQ King" needs to excel at Char Siu BBQ Pork. There are tables inside to consume your meal, and friendly butcher and counter help you will find here, but there is a lot of room for improvement here on food quality. I hope they step up their game on the BBQ pork. Ever the optimist, I hope their other stuff is better!

My brother told me about BBQ King as a newer restaurant that took over a former Chinese restaurant spot that was worth a try. I really like the roast duck here. It tends to be meaty and is served with a side of sweet and sour sauce. I also tried the short ribs on a sizzling platter. It was good but I prefer the short ribs from the Korean barbecue better. I also had the Chinese broccoli with garlic sauce. That was good, too. The service was good. I usually like sitting in the rear of the restaurant because the front can be a bit cold and windy when the door opens. I look forward to returning:)

Love love the bbq duck and cha Siu here. Omg run don't walk when you're hankering for Cantonese bbq. Next door to Texas bbq. Can you do both in one sitting ??? Every thing in moderation I say. Service is friendly. Ambiance is busy Cantonese bbq spot. JYW highly recommends

Was recommended by some locals at a nearby coffee shop to come check out this new restaurant. They mentioned that the wonton noodle soup was pretty good and affordable. It looks like the new restaurant is selling the same foods as the previous restaurant, which is Cantonese style food and BBQ with a deli in the front. Came by on Monday around 1pm for lunch and wanted to give the wonton noodles a try, but unfortunately the wontons were not ready; they were still mixing the meat filling and haven't wrapped them yet. They seem like new restaurant owners as they didn't have a lot of the dishes available yet since they either don't have the ingredients to make it and/or it hasn't been prepared yet. So I ended up getting: 1) Roasted Duck with Rice Vermicelli(4.8/10) - This was okay. It came with a lot of rice noodles, probably 2 servings worth along with some veggies and the roast duck. The roast duck was a bit disappointing since the skin wasn't crispy and the duck itself was kind of cold. Flavor for the roast duck was good, but everything else was just mediocre. The soup was also very bland. My friend ended up getting the beef brisket with egg noodles. He said the beef was tender, but flavor was just okay. The egg noodles were a bit soggy and slightly overcooked. Service was okay as well. We were seated fairly quickly and brought over a tea pot. They still were figuring out how to place orders on their iPads. They are fairly new and still working out the issues and getting in the groove of things. Be patient and I would say give it a few more weeks for service to get better and hopefully they have their ingredients prepared and ready by then. Will revisit if in the area again to give their wontons a try, but with Hon's Wun-Tun House opening soon nearby, they have some tough competition. Their pricing for their dishes are reasonably affordable though.

If a place advertises BBQ, then that's what my review will be. It was edible and not heavily greasy like many Chinese BBQ spots. Food came out quick too.

We were looking for a lunch spot and happened upon this place in the Sunset. The meat hanging in the window looked very good, and since I was in the mood for Char Sui, we decide to give it a try. Inside there were quite a few customers and although the place is pretty Spartan and it's decor, it had a welcoming vibe. All our dishes which included the dry braised, green beans, Char Sui, and the Taiwanese Braised Beef Noodles were very good. Because the staff really liked us, we got a complementary roast duck with plum sauce. All the dishes were great. Very flavorful and fresh. If you're in the area, this newest place is worth a try!

We arrived about 30 minutes after opening and waited roughly another 30 minutes before we could order at the kiosk and get seated. The restaurant is very small with only about a dozen seats. You wait until a seat opens up before ordering, so depending on availability, you may end up sitting alongside other parties. The whole setup and atmosphere reminded me so much of the small soba restaurants I visited in Japan and added to how authentic the experience felt. I ordered the Tenzaru Soba with Omakase Tempura and was genuinely impressed. The soba portion was incredibly generous, and I left very full. The noodles were some of the most authentic soba I've had in California, and I ate every last bit. Everything felt simple, carefully made, and satisfying. Parking is street parking only, but we were able to find a spot nearby and walk over. I would absolutely come back to Sobakatsu, just with the expectation that there may be a wait.

So if you're starving, I suggest getting a light snack. The menu is short but sweet which means they can focus on their craft. Since it was a rather windy and cold day, I ordered the tenkake (hot soba) with shrimp tempura and the chef's special tempura. The soba noodles were very soft and tasty, the broth was perfection. The tempura were lightly battered and not too oily. I noticed most people ordered the dry soba so I'll be sure to give that a try when I return. Was it worth the wait? Not really but if you're in the mood for soba and fresh tempura, then this is your spot.

The air is damp, temperatures are hovering in the 50s, and Karl the Fog clings to the Golden Gate Bridge and waterfront, creating a misty, almost ethereal scene...And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a SIGN FOR RAMEN. Where else? Marufuku Ramen - San Francisco in Japantown for some authentic Hakata-style Tonkotsu ramen. Because when San Francisco decides to turn a summer evening into a refrigerated fog chamber, you don't argue with Mother Nature. You order soup. And not just any soup. RAMEN. We ordered the Hakata Tonkotsu DX, and from the moment that bowl arrived, I knew the evening was going to end well. The broth was rich, deeply simmered, creamy, savory, and incredibly comforting...the kind of broth that seems to have one job in life...Make you forget that you're cold. Mission accomplished. Then came the supporting cast...Seasoned Soft-Boiled Egg, perfectly tender and adding another layer of richness. Green Onions bringing freshness and a little aromatic bite. Kikurage Mushrooms adding that wonderful chewy, slightly crunchy texture. Bean Sprouts providing a crisp counterpoint to all that luxurious broth. And then...Buta Kakuni aka braised thick pork belly. Now we're talking. Tender, succulent, deeply flavored pork belly that practically surrendered to the chopsticks. Rich without being overwhelming, it added that slow-braised goodness that makes you suddenly question why all pork belly isn't served this way. Then came corn for little bursts of sweetness and nori seaweed for that subtle oceanic umami. Everything had a purpose. Everything had a place. And everything somehow ended up in my belly. This wasn't simply ramen...this was soul-soothing culinary therapy. The kind of meal that melts away the evening San Francisco chill one slurp at a time. But apparently ramen wasn't enough...because we also ordered the Chicken Karaage. And OH BOY... That golden-brown, ultra-crispy exterior gives way to tender, juicy, deeply flavored chicken inside, creating that beautiful combination of crunch and tenderness that is both satisfying and dangerously addictive. One piece becomes another. Then another and suddenly you're negotiating with yourself. "I should probably save some for later", however, your hand reaches for another piece. Apparently, self-control was not invited to dinner. The combination was perfect. Hot ramen. Crispy chicken. Rich broth. Tender pork belly. Crunchy vegetables. And Karl the Fog doing his best impression of a giant refrigerator outside. This is where I started thinking about Japanese minimalism. It reflects ideas of discipline, respect, mindfulness, simplicity, and harmony, with a deep connection to nature and tradition. Marufuku Ramen hits on all points. The ingredients are thoughtfully composed. The textures have purpose. The flavors are balanced. Nothing feels unnecessary. Nothing feels like it's trying too hard. It's simply a beautiful bowl of ramen and some seriously good karaage doing exactly what they were meant to do. And perhaps that's the beauty of it. In a city where everything seems to move at 100 miles an hour, you sit down with a bowl of ramen, pick up your chopsticks, take that first sip of broth... And for a few minutes...You slow down. Karl can wait. The Golden Gate Bridge can wait. The rest of San Francisco can wait. Dinner comes first. Overall: 5 stars. The Hakata Tonkotsu DX was rich, savory, comforting, and loaded with wonderful textures. The Buta Kakuni was tender and deeply satisfying, while the seasoned egg, kikurage mushrooms, bean sprouts, green onions, corn, and nori created a beautifully balanced bowl. And the Chicken Karaage? Crispy. Juicy. Flavorful. Basically...fried chicken therapy with a Japanese passport. Come hungry...and Go Big!!!

From the moment the first course arrived, it was clear that presentation is taken seriously here. Every dish looked like a work of art, but fortunately the flavors were every bit as impressive as the visuals. The standout starter was the seared scallop with curry sauce. Perfectly caramelized on the outside and tender inside, the scallop paired beautifully with the rich, aromatic curry that added warmth and depth without overwhelming the delicate seafood. It was the kind of dish that makes you pause after the first bite just to appreciate how well the flavors come together. The duck, beef, and seafood courses were all expertly prepared, showcasing quality ingredients and refined technique. Each plate offered a balance of flavor, texture, and creativity that made the progression through the meal exciting. And then there was dessert. The mango sticky rice ice cream was the perfect finale. Inspired by the beloved Thai classic, it delivered all the familiar flavors of sweet mango and coconut-infused sticky rice in a refreshing, elegant frozen form. Each dish came in just the right quantity, and it felt like there was a lot of thought put into every dish. Honestly, everything was delicious and worked really well together as a whole. The Hokkaido scallop was probably the best scallop I've ever had. It was a huge scallop that was lightly seared on the outside while still being raw inside, and the natural sweetness was incredible. The cabbage was another standout for me. It was perfectly crunchy with a great balance of savory and sweet flavors. The flavors throughout the meal definitely leaned more on the sweeter side, like the coconut curry with the scallop, the prawn salad dressing, and the cabbage sauce, but everything was really well balanced. I also really liked the guava sorbet. It was a perfect way to end the meal and paired nicely with the more burnt flavors of the other dessert. The presentation was really unique too, with all the plates and bowls having interesting shapes. The soup bowl especially looked like a giant clam shell, although it was pretty funny and slightly difficult to actually drink the soup out of. Definitely recommend.

The rhythmic clatter of woks, the organized chaos of street vendors creating unforgettable meals from kitchens no bigger than a parking space. Oh...how I've longed to go back. And then, while walking the streets of San Francisco...I stumbled upon Bangkok Street Thai Street Food. No passport. No jet lag....Just an empty stomach and a healthy appetite. Our meal began with the Chicken Satay, and what a way to start. The chicken was beautifully grilled, tender, and lightly charred around the edges. But the real star was the silky peanut sauce paired with the bright cucumber relish. Rich, nutty, slightly sweet, and perfectly balanced with a refreshing crunch, it was the kind of appetizer that makes everyone at the table quietly reach for "just one more skewer." Next came the Green Curry. One thing I appreciate is that they let you choose your own level of heat. Whether you prefer a gentle warmth or a full Thai spice adventure, the kitchen happily accommodates. Beneath the spice was a wonderfully creamy coconut curry layered with fresh herbs and deep aromatic flavors that made every spoonful comforting yet vibrant. Then came the dish no Thai meal should ever be without...Pad Thai. Simple on paper, difficult to master and Bangkok Street gets it right. The rice noodles were cooked perfectly--not too soft, not too firm--and coated in a beautifully balanced tamarind sauce that delivered the ideal combination of sweetness, acidity, and savory depth. Every bite kept inviting the next, to the point where ordering a second plate actually seemed like a perfectly reasonable life decision. Somewhere between the satay, the curry, and the Pad Thai...something unexpected happened. We completely forgot to take pictures! Not one. No overhead food shots. No "wait, don't touch it yet" moments. No social media evidence that we were ever there. That's usually the highest compliment I can give a restaurant. When the food is so good that everyone forgets about their phones, you know the kitchen has everyone's full attention. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But the flavors at Bangkok Street Thai Street Food create a culinary memory that lasts far longer than anything saved to your camera roll. Overall: 4 stars. Fresh ingredients, beautifully balanced flavors, thoughtful spice levels, and comforting Thai classics prepared with care. From the outstanding Chicken Satay and fragrant Green Curry to a Pad Thai that showcases the magic of a well-crafted tamarind sauce, Bangkok Street Thai Street Food captures the spirit of Bangkok one delicious plate at a time.
