Ming Kee Restaurant was on my bookmark after seeing a Instagram post on cheap eats, although I was expecting Ming Kee to be at San Fran's Chinatown. It wasn't, after circling around for parking, we finally found a spot in residential and walked to MK. The line were line, busy out the door, but staff tends to get it moving, once I got to the front, the lady takes your order and gives you a ticket. The menu is not posted on the board, it only has roasted meat prices. The menu is really simple, a no frill place just for simple roasted meats and rice plate lunch. I got the combo of shoyu chicken & roast duck ($15.) I remember the video I saw was for $10. cheap eats for lunch specials, but I think that prices is no more. Everything moved pretty quick after I got my ticket. & the verdict, Love how the color of the chicken and duck, the combo plate was great portion, more than enough for the 2, the shoyu chicken and roast duck was pretty tasty, meaty, tender served on rice and veggies, which was Chinese Cabbage ( Won Bok) which I love, they went great together. I LOVED the ginger garlic sauce, luckily I got 2 extra ( @.50) on side. This sauce is bomb, way better than what I had back on Oahu. I need more of this sauce & They take credit cards here! Food is affordable and delicious. However, staff is rude and service is absolutely terrible. Do not order for a party here - they charge you $3 each for the physical trays which should come with the order... (otherwise, how do you take the food with you?) The place is very busy, and definitely feels like they want you in and out. The restaurant is pretty dingy as well and you definitely don't feel welcomed. read more

I tried their char siu and I don't think it's as good as other places in the city. There is no char so it's lacking that smoky flavor. If you look at the photos that others have posted, seems like that's just how they make theirs. Maybe their duck is better. However, I would probably go somewhere else where I can also get roasted pork (siu yuk) and better char siu. Service was fast. Street parking only, but you might be able to find a free spot in one of the residential streets nearby. read more

Com'on now this place has been around for ages. My dad used to come here back in the early 2000's maybe even, late 90's roast duck over rice, lettuce and ginger sauce. This place hasn't changed one bit. It's a to-go place, looks run down but that's the beauty of it. They keep it basic and straight to the point. Chicken, duck, pork or pigeon (be careful) They' don't speak one lick of English. Just point at the items in the menu and they dish it out. Once in a blue moon, I'll get the pork neck and soy sauce chicken combo. The bbq pork is a bit more fatty but delicious. Small menu, Parking is tight. No frills Chinese take out for bbq, brined, and roast meat! Came here to get a 1/2 roasted duck, some bbq pork and a 1/2 princess chicken. There are no tables or chairs for dining in, so don't expect to eat there. Sorry no pictures of the duck or bbq pork! My guy dug right in and ate most of it up before I could even take a shot. I guess hunger got the best of him! I did manage to take a pic of the chicken. I got a few pieces of duck and bbq pork before it was gone, so I got to try it! BBQ pork and duck were on point for flavor. Chicken skin had good texture. However, I would have to dunk the chicken in a bowl of soup noodles to take care of the saltiness. This is a total hole in the wall. Seriously some of the best Cantonese roast/poached/steamed meaty goods. We've defaulted to Cheung Hing for years but upon discovering this place, we have been completely converted. Our default is the whole princess chicken and the whole soy sauce chicken. We request it whole and unchopped (to avoid bone shards) and then throw on gloves at home and shred the chicken up. Princess chicken comes with their house special ginger scallion oil that is absolutely delicious. We've also tried their honey char siu and their honey pork neck. I've walked by here a few times in the last year but never tried it. Really happy I finally did. Small line at 4pm on a Friday, waited about five minutes. Super flavorful char sui without being overly fatty like most places (I ate the whole thing and still had room for more). Honestly, this might be my favorite char sui I've tried in recent memory. Lettuce/cabbage and seasoning is included. A little salty overall of course. Portion size is great and very reasonable for $12. No one speaks English here but I would highly recommend trying this place. read more

I have been here before but this trip was mixed. Shopped here on a Sunday and lucked into a space just 1 spot East of the shop. This location does takeout , and I have never been disappointed with the BBQ Pork. This trip though my order included some Duck that made me very I'll, and was mostly bones under the top layer. Ming Kee is a MUST-visit for anyone craving Cantonese meats. I absolutely love their char siu, princess chicken, and roast duck. Their char siu is perfectly caramelized--not too sweet or meaty. Their roast duck is the star of the show. Tender, not too fatty, and packed with flavor, the roast duck is perfect to eat with rice or noodles. Lastly, I am not a huge princess chicken person, but Ming Kee's princess chicken is flavorful and meaty. Make sure to get the garlic sauce with their princess chicken! In terms of ambiance, it isn't really a dine-in restaurant since they don't really have much seating. I always bring the food home. In terms of service, they are efficient and friendly. Scored. No line. Having a holiday weekend means lots of people out of town, so the whole sf is accessible. The butcher is meticulous with chopping the meat. The lady owner was chastising him for having the empty containers too close to the scale that it falls on the scale to add weight to whatever being weighed. My little feast, a whole duck and a whole yellow steamed chicken. Duck was meaty at certain parts. Excellent for me since it is right amount salt. Kudos to the chopper. Each size the right bite. This restaurant is doing take-out orders only. They're famous for their Cha-Siu (Chinese BBQ pork) so I gave it a go. The Cha-Siu was not charred like most Cha-Siu in the world, so it wasn't very flavorful. However, they used a pretty good quality piece of meat. It was lean and fresh. The highlights of my order were the Soy Sauce chicken and the Princess chicken. The chef cut the birds beautifully and placed them nicely in the box. The chicken were well done, and they were fresh. Love their Chinese BBQ duck. Very consistent and yummy. They only have a set of BBQ rice plate menu options and ala cart or whole duck. Not other menu options like a typical Chinese restaurant. I'm so glad I found this place!! My boyfriend and I found this place unintentionally and it is now one of go to places when we're in town!! The line gets pretty long but it's definitely worth the wait! The plate was delicious and I couldn't stop eating! Hole in wall Chinese bbq limited to bbq pork and roast duck. No crispy skin roast pork here. Plate lunches about $14 with 25 cents charge for plastic bags. Is strictly takeout place without seating. On the weekends, couple of staff speak limited English. Menu is limited. I wouldn't say it was the best duck or bbq pork I've ever eaten but it's good for this neighborhood when you can't get to Chinatown or other areas. We got #2 and #7. The roast duck is good, fairly lean compared to other places with fatty duck and hardly meat. Chicken (served cold unless you want it nuked in the microwave) is nicely salted with a tasty scoop of green onion ginger sauce on the side but inside the container. The meats are tender and not dried out. I would consider returning if I wanted an entire chicken or duck for dinner. They're very generous with the rice with the takeout plates. read more

Came here today to buy a roasted duck. $29 for a whole. Half chopped and the other half not chopped. Extra $.25 for a extra container but told them to just stack it on top. Always love their roasted duck, one of the best I and my family ever had but it's pricey! Where as in Chinatown it's $26. They charge $.25 for a bag (reusable) ofc, but they don't even give you a flimsy plastic bag to hold the duck if you have your own canvas bag. It gets pretty oily. YUM! Decided to get takeout here before running errands. The ambiance was similar to any other Chinese takeout spot. There was already a long line upon arrival but thankfully it moved quickly. Hands down the best Hong Kong bbq meat shop in the Bay Area! No frills, no artificial flavorings, no BS. Just lots of flavor. And a staple at any family get together. My favorite items are the princess chicken and char siu. The princess chicken is what they're known for. And they often sell out of items near the end of the day. So come early! Before 4pm is a safe bet (but it depends on the day and if there's a Chinese holiday). Note: half a chicken/duck gives you 1 small sauce. Whole chicken/duck gives you 1 small and 1 large sauce. I love the princess chicken and scallion/green onion sauce combo. Best served over rice and you have 4 meals right there! Also, every time I leave town, I make sure to buy 2 uncut char siu to freeze and slowly savor. They freeze extremely well and remind me of home :) Just remember, don't go on Wednesdays. In order to get a duck you need to preorder the roast duck. They ignore you if you have not preorder the duck, in fact they ask you if you preordered or not and if the latter they tell you there are sold out. I also picked up some pig/hog neck char sui, this is another item that is sold out and also needs to be preordered. I lucked out and was able to get some spareribs, they only had two more pounds left. I also got a little brined chicken feet. Neighborhood favorite for many, many years. Their soy sauce chicken and char siu are my default for the rice plate. I used to never eat ginger scallion oil but theirs just completely blow my mind and I sometimes even buy extra if I know I'll be splitting my plate into two meals (portions are huge). Roast duck used to be amazing but we've found it to be really dry and salty the last couple of times and just stopped getting it altogether. Maybe we will give the duck another shot later on, but for now we are happy with just the chicken and pork. read more

Update: 4 stars to 1. Been a long time customer here. This visit is probably the worst out of many. My blood is boiling. There are three guys who prep your order. The one with glasses in the back with the pony tail is the one who ticked me off. Super rude. Small space. Very loud environment. Talks to me with his back faced and gets mad when I don't answer back. OF COURSE I CANT ANSWER BACK WHEN I CANT EVEN HEAR YOU. Worse of all, THE LADY MANAGER. This is my parent's favorite to go Chinese BBQ spot in San Francisco! We always go here and it's affordable especially for SF price. We always get the duck, soy sauce chicken , cold chicken feet and roasted bbq pork. The quality of the cut makes it easier to eat and the service is super quick!
