    Ayesha's Cornbread
    Bridget O.

I finally had a chance to try this establishment, and I really love the ambiance. It's a slightly dark and heavy mood, but open and airy simultaneously. I'm aware this sounds like oxymoron. Service was wonderful. The gentleman explained the menu and offered cocktail recommendations. I started with SolDeOacaca, slightly fruity but the smokiness of the mezcal was absent. My second drink was The Velvet Smoke, this was refreshing and packed a punch. Starters consisted of Ayesha's freshly baked cornbread. I didn't expect it to be a muffin but I did enjoy the Thai curry butter on top. My main was the general g-man's half fried chicken. OMG the portion size caught me off guard. This is definitely a shareable entree are prepared to have leftovers . The chicken was fried well the flavor wasn't so memorable I think it's relying pretty heavily on the honey hot sauce. My final thoughts is it's a beautiful restaurant and definitely worth at least a try.

Pricey but worth it! I come here often for team dinners and I always look forward to eating here! Great food, lively ambiance, and friendly service. For appetizers, we love: - Ayesha's freshly baked cornbread: buttery and soft pastry - 'Peking' pork belly bao buns: super delicate buns with juicy slices of duck - Double duck wings: crispy and yummy! For sides, we love the pork belly fried rice and the duck fat fries. SO flavorful and delicious. Fat just makes everything taste so good and I don't feel guilty at all about the amount of fries I had! The standout was my entree: the smoked galbi beef short ribs. I think this is my new favorite: the beef was ridiculously tender and cooked to perfection. It's pricey ($76), yes, but it's some of the best short ribs I've had and I highly recommend. I think it's worth it and you gotta treat yourself once in awhile!

Reservations for 8 for company holiday dinner at 4:45 for some happy hour! Ordered entree's as well at 6pm. We stayed at the same table. The bartender was amazing. For happy hour, we had to order with him at the bar so my manager kept getting up to order drinks and more food. (Bartender did an amazing job while making drinks for everyone sitting at happy hour, props to him!!) we told the people who were serving our food that we wanted to order entrees so the server told the bartender and he took our order again. He checked on us frequently. The servers cleared our table as they say empty plates and refreshed our forks and small plates. 10/10 service!! I thought the smokehouse would have been bigger but they closed off a section for a private party I believe. For my entree, I ordered the Kalbi Ribs, HANDS DOWN THE BEST IVE HAD!! it will not disappoint. The pork baos were also good!!

I'd been wanting to try International Smoke for a long time because of Ayesha Curry and Michael Mina, so I was excited to finally check it out for a work lunch. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the hype. Our reservation was at 12pm for a group of nine, but we weren't seated until around 12:15, even though it was a Wednesday. Once we were seated, the servers took our drink and food orders quickly. My Bloody Mary came out fast, but it was pretty basic and not very strong...nothing memorable about it. Some appetizers came out shortly after, but the real issue was the entrées. We waited an hour and twenty minutes for our main dishes, which is an extremely long time for a lunch service. What made it even more disappointing is that no one checked in on us during the wait, acknowledged the delay, or apologized. For a restaurant of this level, that kind of service gap is surprising. After reading other reviews later, it seems long ticket times might be a common problem here, which they really should address since most people dining at lunch don't have hours to spare. When the food finally arrived, it wasn't worth the wait. I ordered the burger, and it was just okay. The only standout was the duck fat fries, which were actually very good. But overall, I could get a much better burger elsewhere for a fraction of the price. We ended up being there for about two hours, not because we wanted a long leisurely lunch, but because the food took so long to come out. I'm glad I finally got to try it, but based on this experience, I don't think I'll be returning.

I came here for a quick dinner with a friend after work on a weekday. The restaurant wasn't too busy and we were seated immediately after arriving. Since it's in FiDi, the crowd was mostly people getting dinner with colleagues after work. Everything on the menu sounded very good so it was hard to make a decision, but our server was very friendly and helpful, gladly providing recommendations on drinks, appetizers, and entrees. We ended up getting the cornbread muffins, duck fat fries, delmonico ribeye, and salmon. The cornbread muffins, delmonico ribeye, and salmon were very good. The thai red curry butter that came on the cornbread muffins paired perfectly with the cornbread. The ribeye was perfectly-cooked and well-seasoned. The salmon was also cooked very well but the sauce that came on the side of it was weirdly bitter & not quite my taste. The duck fat fries were a little underwhelming, though. They were definitely good fries, but I didn't feel like being fried in duck fat actually added anything to them.

Pros: cool ambience and vibe (used to be RN74)c courteous staff, well prepared food, with some twists like Mac n cheese with bbq rib meat, fried rice with pork belly--with the rice that was crunchy like the bottom of the pan rice you would find on a paella pan or hot pot! Also had oxtail which was excellent and an unusual menu item. Cons: no more free chips and salsa, limited menu with no specials, on the pricey side with small portions. Was there for a birthday celebration and their card put on the table was nice, however the mini ice cream cone (the size of your pinky) with candle = super underwhelming. We had a discount code which made it more palatable. Would definitely return.

We visited the International House of Smoke to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday. Given that it is a smokehouse, I was really looking forward to trying the short pork ribs. Unfortunately, they fell short of expectations--they lacked any smoky flavor and tasted more like they had been boiled and finished in the oven. On a positive note, the drinks were very good, and the short ribs were tender and flavorful, although I felt the price point was a bit high for the portion. The service was fair--neither poor nor outstanding. Overall, while there were some enjoyable aspects, I left somewhat disappointed given the reputation and theme of a smokehouse. I hope to see improvements in consistency and preparation, as the restaurant does have potential.

After reading my last review, the restaurant manager called me and invited us back, so we returned and had a much better experience. This time, we sat at a wide booth and had great service and good food. Both of the steaks for my daughter and her boyfriend were well charred yet rare, as requested. My salmon was too salty to my taste. Good music filled the air. The double duck wings and Mexican Street Corn are the stand out dishes. Thank you Vanessa, for our complimentary meal - we appreciate it!

Came here for a team lunch, I was expecting a BBQ restaurant based on the name, but it seemed more like new American meets Asian and southern fusion. Overall I wasn't too impressed by any of the items I tried, and I think that was the case with most of the team. A lot of the menu items sounded good, but prices were pretty steep. Typically we'll get a bunch of stuff to share at team lunches, but with the higher prices and number of people sharing, it wouldn't have been feasible. Most of us opted for the business lunch for $35/pp since it included an app, entree, and dessert (two cookies wrapped to go). I got the black truffle caesar and gochujang salmon. The salad was drowning in dressing and despite it being a black truffle salad, it wasn't very truffly (which I actually appreciated, as truffle can often be overpowering). The salmon portion was pretty small and it and the rice weren't all that flavorful. You really needed the kimchi veggies to help pull the dish together. Service was very good and we had a semi private area which was nice, but the food just wasn't what you wanted it to be for the price you were paying.

Great food, great decor but service was just a little bit slow. I definitely will be back to try other food.

    Roasted Faroe Island Salmon
    Richard G.

This is such an interesting restaurant. It's basically a super fancy bbq themed restaurant. The only item I tried was the Roasted Faroe Island Salmon and it was amazing. It came with a black olive tapenade aioli that paired perfectly with the salmon. It was one of the best salmon fillets I've ever had. My only problem with the dish was the tiny piece of squash that came with it. The ratio of salmon to vegetables was unbalanced. Regardless, it was a satisfying lunch and I'll definitely be back.

Finally got around to trying this place for a Friday date night in the city! We had a reservation for 7:30PM and the restaurant was pretty lively and busy. My boyfriend and I were excited to try a lot of different dishes so we ordered three appetizers - the pork belly bao buns, the crab spring rolls, and the cornbread with curry butter. The pork belly buns were served in a smoke-filled dome and definitely had a distinct smoky flavor. The buns were soft and the pork belly was tender, but I think the smoke was a little overpowering for my preference. The crab spring rolls were crispy and delicious, and packed with a generous amount of fresh crab meat. The cornbread was also tasty and the curry butter paired really well with it. For the mains, I ordered the miso yaki cod which was super tender and yummy! My boyfriend got the fried chicken which came with coleslaw and corn ribs. Everything was well seasoned and the chicken was both crispy and juicy. We also ordered the duck-fat fries as a side, which were pretty standard and tasty. We both felt that the appetizers honestly stole the show, and we definitely over-ordered and had to take about half of our main dishes home. I also wanted to note that there seemed to be a little mix-up with our server, because we ended up waiting about 30 mins before we were able to order. When we finally flagged someone down to take our order, everything went smoothly, and at the end they actually took care of the cost of all three appetizers on the bill for us to compensate for the long wait, which was quite generous and very appreciated. I hope to be back!

Very heavy Asian influence to all the food here. Strangely, not so much smoke?? Service was pretty good, and the selection of cocktails is fun. Our group appreciated the presentation all around. We tried all the appetizers and they were very nice, though not particularly notable. The cornbread, which is a signature item, had both funk and kick. I appreciate their commitment and boldness. The Bao has smoke presentation, but that didn't carry over into the taste as much as I'd have wanted. The meat for lettuce cups was seared tableside, but ended up a bit overcooked. The beef rib was a bit tough and dry for my taste. Garlic noodle had great pieces of Dungeness crab and a rich sauce that elevated it above any version I've experienced before Overall, the experience was a lot of fun

When we got there there was a line outside, and it was probably a 30-40 minute wait. We ordered the 24-Piece Oyster Bar Mix ($92), 6-Piece Grilled Oysters with the Chipotle Bourbon seasoning ($26), and a bowl of Clam Chowder ($23). Everything came out pretty quickly so we didn't go hungry for much longer after we ordered. The day that we went, the oysters that were available and were included in our mix were the Hog Island Sweetwater, Hog Island Highwater, Hog Island Atlantic, and Hog Island Kumamoto. As soon as our server pointed out which oysters were which, however, I forgot what he said immediately so I could not tell you which ones I liked the most. You can definitely taste the difference between them though and they were all great, but my favorite one was a little bit sweeter I think, and it was one of the bigger shelled ones. Thew grilled oysters were amazing as well. The shells were even larger than the raw oysters, and there was a lot of flavor to them. The clam chowder was definitely more brothy than ones I've had in other places, and not as thick and creamy. It was still good though and there was a ton of clams and other ingredients inside. Definitely worth a try if you're visiting the pier. It's definitely on the pricier side but you are getting what you paid for.
