Plus, what's not more inviting than a giant wall of whiskey? I'm a huge whiskey fan so that made me feel right at home. Their prices are amazing. I think my Whiskey Sour for HH was $5? That's cheap like it should be. On top of that, it was great and not overly sugary. While I didn't have food (need to cut some holiday LBS), the menu looked great. Especially if you love BBQ. Tried this place for lunch. Coming from KC I wanted to try a STL BBQ. Not sure if this is a good example or not...but it was good. 3/5 seem not as great but I did get the cheapest thing. The lunch deal was 4 oz of pulled pork, half salad, and soup or a side ( I got fries). It was still enjoyable! The pulled pork was not as tender as the ones I've had in KC so that was a little disappointing (3/5)The place offered three different sauces: SR-71 , Carolina, and STL. The 71 was the hotter of the three. It has an interesting taste profile- kind of like an Asian spicy bbq sauce that has some sweetness. I liked the 71 and STL sauces, but they weren't one of those OMG I love them sauces. (4/5) Fries were piping hot and delicious! It's more medium thickness. Crispy outside! (4/5) Half salad - I got the southwestern and it was delicious as well. I would def recommend getting the southwestern if you are trying the lunch special. I will always miss the Majestic but this place helps me forget; bold statement I know. The dimly lit BBQ saloon that looks borderline closed lures you to its front doors with the marvelous smell from their smoker that's sits at the corner of Euclid and Laclede. It's dominates the intersection and beckons you to gaze upon its specter at the least, if not further investigate. BBQ has exploded locally, it's like an arms race who can build the fastest in each neighborhood; a territorial land-grab in efforts to capture the market. However nothing was rushed in the BBQ Saloon, in fact right on time. You're met immediately not by the hustle and bustle of a typical BBQ fast food restaurant, but an actual sit-down restaurant that takes cues from its widely successful CWE counterparts. Low lighting, a friendly host, and a quiet dining room. The menu offers starters ranging from candied bacon (recommended), Pork Crackl'ns, to even gluten free Cornbread of all things. I didn't waste my time we went straight for the BBQ, since this IS the BBQ saloon. What suited us best was the Rib Combo, 1/2 rack of pork ribs, 1/2 rack of beef ribs, and a choice of third protein (pulled pork, turkey, or pulled chicken). This is also comes with two sides for $38, more than enough food for two people; and it was. The sides we had were Mac N' cheese along with garlic green beans. Rare is the day you see beef ribs at any place in Saint louis, they had them and it was glorious. Honestly the beef ribs alone made the meal worth it, but the pork ribs were equally as delicious. The ribs were so good you don't need any sauce.l, a hallmark of champion BBQ. I would highly recommend the SR-71 sauce as BBQ saloon sauces rival their excellent entree offerings as well. This sauce in particular meshes the bold and spicy with hints of sweet aftertones that warm the pallet. We stopped into the Saloon for drinks over Thanksgiving weekend and came away impressed with the whiskey. Phil, owner is pleasant, very knowledgeable and truly enjoys his job. He asked what we had been drinking before coming to the Saloon, what type of whiskey we wanted to drink for the remainder of the evening and made suggestions on other good whiskey to drink within the same price range/taste. It was also past 10:00 pm so we got Happy Hour appetizers. We had the pulled pork nachos and candied bacon. The nachos are very filling and come with a large amount of cheese on top of them. This is hands down one of the best bars in St. Louis. Their under-the-radar whisky selection is unmatched by any bar I've been to in the Midwest. They have affordable whisky flights of all kinds of varieties from all over the world. If you're not into whiskey, there's $5 cocktails. He is the whiskey-obsessed equivalent of that friend you had in high school who decided to sell weed so he could smoke for free. I had high hopes when I first walked in. Seemed like they had a nice friendly vibe and as anyone who spends a lot of time on the road will tell you a friendly atmosphere is important. The bar staff ruined the experience. I was handed a menu and didn't get checked on for five minutes. Then after the meal the bartender just left my empty plate and glass sit in front of me for 15 minutes. A local got tired of seeing my uncleared area and started handing the dishes to the bartender. Whiskey lovers rejoice! This place just about has it all and I felt like a kid in a candy store with all the selections! I had an expertly made Manhattan and I tried a whiskey flight that was a good deal for $7--they even gave me and my dinner companion discount coupons for our next visit on whiskey flights. The pulled pork and ribs were excellent, as were the sides. If you are worried about the portions of the sides (which looked deceptively small when first brought out), rest assured that they are more than enough to get full. We had an appetizer of candied bacon (a must!) and sides of mac and cheese, slaw and cornbread muffins, which were also great. I've been to BBQ Saloon a few times for Happy Hour and enjoyed my time there. The bar is quite large, so it's easy to find intimate corners. They offer a good variety of food and drinks on their happy hour menu. I usually get a cocktail or two and share the pulled pork nachos with my friends. The cocktails are decent; nothing special. I have mixed feelings about the pulled pork nachos. The nachos cost $6.50 and can easily feed 2-3 people. The pulled pork is delicious, but the cheese is pretty gross. Was my first time in St. Louis, so I knew the ribs were a must. There was a big conference downtown, and most places were selling out of ribs. We called ahead here and they said their supply was fine. So we brought a big party do people and they sat us right away. The waitress was great and attentive. I ordered a full rack which was foolish, but I enjoyed every bite. The dry rub was recommended so that's what I got. It was good, although not as good as traditional in my opinion. The sides were large and delicious, especially the potato salad. So a friend and I went on 4/14 as we travelled from TX to Chicago. We went here because I really wanted BBQ. Staff: We walked in and a man jumped up from the bar and asked if we were eating or for the bar. Turns out he was either the manager or the owner, either way, not professional as you can tell he had already had a few drinks. Food: Don't bother. We each ordered a jr. combination plate. Most of the meats were either room temp or cold. Mac and cheese was from a powered mix, and the potato salad was almost frozen, scooped from a pre-made container I'm sure. All this was served with sides of freezing cold sauces, so cold sauce on mostly cold bbq. We also tried the candied bacon. Don't. Room temp bacon tossed in brown sugar does not candied bacon make. Dry and powdery. While our waitress was nice enough, they didn't seem to have enough staff. And then their system went down when we tried to pay our bill. Took about 15 mins for them to figure out the problem and restart the system. That's about the time the manager/owner actually got up to do something. While we had a good overall experience in St Louis, I would definitely avoid this place until they get their act together. read more

When we walked in it was a little confusing because the bartender told us to sit wherever we wanted but the waitress came over to seat us. No big deal, just odd. It took quite a while for the waitress to come over to take our order and even longer to bring back our drinks. When she came with our drinks she commented on how busy and crazy it was. She had 3 tables. I went with the pulled pork sandwich and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was middle of the road. Ok but nothing special. Weirdly the pulled pork wasn't pulled at all, there were several large (roughly 1 1/2 inch) cubes on a bun. I just took them off the bun and pulled them apart myself. Flavor-wise the pulled pork was just ok. Not offensive but not a stand out. Almost no smoke flavor at all and on the dry side. My wife enjoyed her quesadilla. The waitress pointed out that the SR-71 was their spicy sauce. I think they forgot to put the spice in that batch because there was no hint of spice but a good amount of vinegar. We ordered bread pudding for desert. After about 10 minutes of waiting for it, our waitress brought us our bill, but no bread pudding. When asked about it she ju said she forgot. When we got the bread pudding it was tasty but burned on the bottom. Then she brought back the bill. Three of us tables sat there with our bills wondering if she was going to come back and take the payment. She never did and all of us got up and paid at the bar. I met a friend at another establishment for dinner and we were unimpressed by the sustenance offerings at that location. Since I had parked further down Laclede, I had the benefit of walking past The BBQ Saloon and getting to smell the delicious aromas of smoked meat. So when we decided to get food of better substance, we left the other location and walked to the BBQ Saloon. We were greeted at the door by the owner, a very friendly gentleman & shown our seats. We both ordered cocktails, my friend ordered the pulled pork platter with green beans, and Old Glory coleslaw. Her pork was tender, delicious, and good sized chunks of meat. This law is made with Greek yogurt and blueberries and was different than what I'm used to, but much better than your standard mayo-based slaws. The green beans were very tasty with a hint of garlic. I have lived in St.Louis nearly a year now, and I have not had the pleasure of trying a barbecue pork steak yet until tonight. I was not disappointed, a big old slab of meat about an inch thick arrived in front of me. I normally eat a lot, but I was able to bring home almost half of this giant slab of tender, tasty goodness. When a restaurant tells you that they have mac and cheese, you've always got that idea that they're going to bring out Kraft macaroni and cheese, or Velveeta Shells & Cheese. This one you can tell that they make it in-house, you get hints of the flour from the roux in there, it is not a bad thing and then the cheese is just unctuousness and melty and amazing. I'm not going to take away from their dessert selection, because the bread pudding does sound amazing. However, the cornbread could be a dessert in itself, soft fluffy and moist is the cornbread mixture, it's sweet it's delicious, and then there's a bit of a honey glaze on top that just set it off. You think they would know how to make an old fashion since it is a bourbon place...our old fashion was not good- we asked the bartender what they used and they said a FLAVORED whiskey. That explains why it was gross and super sweet... you should not use a flavored whiskey unless the customer asks. Additionally, we got a shot of basil hayden (which is very middle of the line bourbon)- ended up being $15 PER shot- is this a joke? So I guess we paid for the entire bottle. Our group had made a reservation for this restaurant at 730 and the restaurant said they would be able to accommodate us so we went and sat outside. The picnic benches are falling apart making all sorts of noise and moving around every time someone sat down or got up. The server took our order right around 735-740 pm and we had to wait an entire hour and a half before the server came back out and said our food was just getting started.. the experience was horrible, by the time we all got our food it was 930 and the portions were tiny.. the chicken bites were delicious but not what I expected and the sliders were a mistake i the buns were moist and the meat was just barely cooked not even medium rare.. I would have rated better if the food came in sooner but even then the server looked like they just rolled out of bed. It seemed like there was only one server for over 50 people eating at the restaurant I don't recommend big groups for this place and reservations are useless here. Last time I had lunch at BBQ saloon it was easy to give it 5 stars. Everything was amazing. Unfortunately, when I had lunch here recently, it wasn't even half as good. According to my previous post the star of the meal was the green beans; despite the fact that this is a BBQ place. This time around the green beans were limp and over cooked and came with way too much garlic. This was so disappointing. Also, the famous blueberry coleslaw, which is usually unique and delicious, was over dressed and had very few blueberries. My chicken was tender but lacked seasoning. Terrible- What a joke of a restaurant. Went there for the first time. No one at the door and had to walk around the place to find a table then ask a waitress to clear one of the 3 tables never cleaned so we could sit down. The table was cleared, but never wiped off and still had residue and scraps from the last diners. Sat there patiently for 10 minutes with no one coming by to even bring water or bring a menu. Had to go up to the front door to get it ourselves. Finally, left when a waitress just walked by and didn't acknowledge we were even there. We were in town for a long weekend, and this was our favorite place. Went in on a quiet Sunday, early evening. The owner, Phil, was tending bar. Since we always sit at the bar, this was a bonus. He was so great- charming, attentive, and entertaining. A great bartender just makes up for all of life's woes sometimes. We'd planned on going in for a quick drink prior to a movie; we skipped the movie and opted to hang out at the bar instead. The whisky selection is *vast*. He has many flights on the menu to choose from, but if you don't want a flight from a menu, he'll make a custom flight for you. We discovered two new ones we loved. As for the food, their house-made pickles are amazing. Also had the *best* cornbread I've ever had- so fluffy and moist, with just the right amount of sweetness. The BBQ was good. Love love their unique sauces. The SR-71 sauce is a pleasant mix of smokey Sriracha and bourbon. But the turkey was down right bad the day I went. The pulled pork was unremarkable. The beef ribs were really interesting and almost shaped like a pork rib. Something I've never seen before. But they tasted great with their horseradish based white sauce. Service at the bar was terrific at lunch time. They claim the largest Whiskey selection this side of the Mississippi and while its extensive I doubt the claim its true. My girlfriend and I came for lunch today. We snagged a great parking spot, having arrived a little early, ~11:10 a.m. Order at the counter. Big hanging sign "Order Here." Very helpful. Menus at the counter, and we weren't rushed by the cashier to make our selections. Someone (perhaps the owner) was standing nearby "observing" the cashier. Maybe he was in training. I asked if you get a platter and don't want the sides, is the price lower. No, said friendly cashier. They still have to charge for the sides. I asked because: I was not enamored with the sides -- Potato salad "Old Glory" slaw, which I've read contains blueberries (not enticing) Whiskey'd baked beans Southern corn bread Fries Truffled macaroni and cheese Lots of starch. Green beans, tossed salad, broccoli-cauliflower-bacon salad, broccoli casserole, seasonal vegetables? No wiggle room with the offered sides. My platter was 16-ounce pork steak ($18). Sides: potato salad and truffled macaroni and cheese. My girlfriend got the pulled pork sandwich ($10), which comes with pickled vegetables and one side. She chose the truffled macaroni and cheese. You pay when you order. They give you a table stanchion with a card bearing a particular emblem, so they can find you. You sit wherever you want. Our emblem was a horseshoe. I also saw a cactus and a wagon wheel. There's got to be a system they use, so everybody in the house doesn't get the same emblem. Water came out first, which was good, and it was refilled appropriately during our meal. The food was served on a metal platter. Our proteins were on each platter (which was draped with a red-and-white checkered tissue), as were her pickled vegetables. Truffled macaroni and cheese was in a big coffee cup. Potato salad was in a measuring cup with a handle. And she gave me her pickle spear, which was huge and had great dill flavor. I ate it first. Why didn't I get one? She liked her pulled pork sandwich. A beautifully toasted bun with plenty of fresh and juicy pork. She tasted both sauces (STL and Carolina), both too sweet for her, but enjoyed her sandwich sans sauce. She was not so crazy about the pickled vegetables. They were too spicy and vinegary for her. She gave me a taste, and I tried something that was pink. I have no idea what it was, but I liked it, and it was crunchy. She did not take the pickled vegetables home. She liked the truffled macaroni and cheese, as did I, but we had a discussion about not observing any shaved truffle in the dish. They must use truffle oil, because it just looked like regular macaroni and cheese and tasted that way, too, although it was good, and a generous portion. My potato salad was tasty with good celery crunch and a bit of mustardy flavor. Again, a generous portion. Now, to the pork steak. It was HUGE. I found ZERO fat, which is unusual for pork steaks, the sauce on it was good, and I found just one little bone on the edge of the cut. The whole thing was a slab of pork, well-cooked, not tough, and it tasted great. Someone (perhaps the owner) came by to ask how our meals were, and he also got us to-go vessels, which we direly needed. I'd say she took one meal home. I took 3 meals home. read more

Visited here on a Friday night with my boyfriend. We had our small dog with us so we chose to sit outside. The server greeted us immediately and was helpful with the menu. The reason I am giving this place 1 star is because we waited over an hour to get our food. The unreasonable wait time was not only ridiculous, but the the table next to us got comped for waiting so long, and we did not. Although the waitress was extremely apologetic, our dining experience was ruined. When the food finally arrived, it was cold. We waited over an hour for cold barbeque. Also had meat specials including a bratwurst today (mediocre) and alligator ribs (haven't tried). The fries were too salty is time but still good. Coleslaw was fantastic. Tempted to taste the potato salad and cornbread, if we go back. Drinks weren't as good as last time so. Pulled chicken sandwich is good. Better than ribs. Not pulled to shreds which is nice. Big chunks of breast meat. Though it's not seasoned and relies on sauce. I ate it deconstructed but it's obvious with the buttery bun and delicious coleslaw and lettuce. And probably their mayo sauce it would be a hit. Bread pudding with creme brûlée crust (bread pudding with brûlée crust) was fantastic. Really delicious. A pet peeve of mine is when a server makes a suggestion without indicating not an up charge. We ordered the bread pudding and the server casually asked if we want it with ice cream and then we saw later on the bill that we were charged an extra $3 for it. Though we are outside, the ambiance inside is nice. Will eat at the bar next time. Overall the meat wasn't up to par but the sides and dessert and cocktail were good. REVIEW FOR BAR ONLY We stopped into BBQ Saloon on a whim while waiting for a table at Taste, and I am so glad we did. This place has an EXTENSIVE whiskey list - 20 pages or so! Plus, the bartenders are great and know what they're doing. On our recent visit our bartender recommended a single malt scotch (a surprise given that I usually like blended) based on my flavor preferences and what kind of day I was having :-). I of course loved it. I suspect we would've stayed longer if we didn't have our reservation over at Taste (the smell of BBQ lingering in the background was tantalizing), but the good news is I now know where I'm going the next time I want to try some more scotch! read more

Come for the whiskey, stay for the pork nachos! We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for some food and were pretty impressed. The minute we got there the owner came out and told us about the menu and chatted us up, and I loved that. They happy hour for food is fantastic, and I would highly recommend checking that out. They have the best pork nachos I've ever had, with everything including the cheese sauce made in house. They are by far the best thing you can order here, and only $6.50. The order is gigantic too! We stayed for dinner, and that was just ok. I got a turkey platter with beans and a corn muffin. It was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. They also only offer 2 sauces, which is not enough to me for a BBQ joint. Their drink menu also really impressed me. They have 400+ whiskeys to choose from, and the owner was really into telling you about them and helping you choose one to try, which was so cool to time. They offer a few cocktails on happy hour for an awesome price, and we were very happy with those. Gave them 4 stars based on a 5 star food/drink happy hour and a 2-3 dinner. A pretty good addition to the CWE south Euclid area of bars. I'm pretty sure it's the same owners as Wildflower across the street (though that could be wrong), and they have similarly quality food. There claim to fame, outside of their food, is they apparently have the largest available selection of whiskeys in STL. So that's cool. However, for non-aficionados this can be a little overwhelming. The staff can be helpful though even with them it's difficult for them to winnow down a preferred whiskey unless you're extremely specific about what you're wanting. It's a welcome addition to the corner though as it's much more laid back than the other cocktail bar in the area, Taste, and a little more lowkey than bars like Tom's down the street.
