MEAT ON THE STICK I love to go to fine dining to eat different types of elegant, tasty food yet there are some food that makes me happy such as street food. This place is an example. When I go to visit my cousins at Stockton I go to V Tropical Bakery to buy them bread. I always see this stand outside the bakery. I knew one of these days I would have to try this place on a day when I don't go to Stockton. The last couple of weekends when I'm hungry I come here to buy the BBQ pork sticks. This place specializes in BBQ pork sticks. The portion of these sticks are generous. There is no need for rice. Each cube of BBQ pork has the combination of meat and fat. Yet after eating a BBQ pork stick you won't feel bloated. If you're really hungry I recommend getting 3 BBQ pork sticks. After eating these pork sticks you'll be fully satisfied. I've tried other items such as the hot dog on the stick and deep fried lobster balls. The hot dog comes in a distributing red dye yet it's tasty, but not delicous as the BBQ pork stick. The lobster balls I find tend to be spongy not crispy. I believe it's because these lobster balls are bought frozen at Island Pacific Supermarket. It is because of these two items I can't give this plans a perfect 5-star rating. However you should only go here to get the BBQ pork sticks. These sticks are inexpensive - $1.50 per stick. Get a 2 or 3 sticks and you have yourself a meal for under $5. So if you're not only hungry but also feeling down and out for whatever reason I suggest coming here to eat a BBQ pork stick to make yourself happy. read more

This place is freaking awesome!!!! I come here a few weekends out of a month. I always order about 6 BBQ pork sticks and one or two Sarsi. They charge 1.25 per BBQ stick and 1 for an order of fishballs, not sure how much the hotdog is but who cares they have freaking BBQ pork. I'm not sure what they marinate the meat in but it's freaking awesome!!! The list to order pork BBQ gets pretty long after 9 or so so I suggest getting here at around 8 or 8:30. While waiting in line, someone from behind me starts speaking Tagalog and gets helped first. I had a lady ask if I was in line and then proceeded to cut me after I told her yes. The bbq (whenever I am able to get them) and the various deep fried options are really tasty but good luck getting BBQ skewers. Every time I go there, ALWAYS a 15-30 minute wait for any skewers. In short, food is tasty--that's why I gave it 2 stars--but service is subpar if you don't speak Tagalog, other customers are rude, and long wait to get skewers. read more

After reading so many Yelp reviews about this place, I told my husband that he needs to drop by and get me some kabobs. I told him to buy 10 bbq pork kabobs and some fish balls. When he came back, we immediately ate 1 bbq pork kabob each. It tasted really good at that time since it was still warm. However, a couple hours later, the meat was really chewy (no matter how much we heated it up) and it was obvious that it lacked flavor. Per my husband, the fish balls were fried. Well, it didn't look fried. It was pale as a piece of white paper. We ate this for lunch and dinner. We still have half left and I just stuck it in the freezer. This is outside of the Island Pacific and Valerios. The BBQ and Fish Ball stands outside can't be missed -- look for the BBQ smoke from the grills and follow your nose. In all seriousness -- the BBQ is good for the price. I'd come here for a snack, lunch, snack and dinner but I think I'd go into overload (if I had that setting of course). The BBQ is dipped in sauce, wrapped in foil and bagged for you. The other table next to it has fried fish shaped like small balls. You can grab either the sweet sauce or the hot sauce in a separate container and dip / pour your fish. If you're extra hungry -- bring your own rice and have at it in the parking lot and/or inside Island Pacific at the tables outside of little bakery in the middle. The hours listed on Yelp are wrong. They open from 8 to 3 pm on the weekends. BBQ pork on a stick is not bad, especially at just $1.50 each, but it's not better than the ones sold by Goldilocks, which seem to have been marinaded for a longer time and with better flavors. If you expect the fish balls to be the same kind sold on the streets in the Philippines, you would be disappointed. It's ironically the more expensive (made with fish not starchy fillers) you can buy from the supermarket itself. If you think the sauces would redeem them, you would be mistaken. They're not quite the same kinds you can get from the streets of Manila; on the other hand, you won't get Hepatitis A from them, so that's good. Overall, I might buy the BBQ pork again, but won't make a special trip. I probably won't buy the fish balls again. But if you have no idea how street fish balls should taste like or if you like the taste of fish balls in Chinese soups, you might enjoy them. They're $1 for 4 or so balls. read more

I like coming here for a couple reasons. First off, I LOVE STREET STYLE FOOD, and second, I like to practice my Balikbayan Tagalog (aka foreigner Tagalog). I usually ever go to Filipino places without my Mom, yet here I come on a tri weekly basis. First off BBQ pork and Filipino hot dogs, yes please. This reminds me of the days my Uncle Boy would cook these up, then call me gay for liking the hot dogs more. Memories...... The guy serving fish balls does not EVER wear his mask unless someone calls him out on it. I've been here 3 times and saw him serving food with his mask under his chin. I finally said something on my second visit, he puts it on UNDER his nose. He recognized me on my third visit and asked him point blank to just please wear his mask. He puts it on again UNDER his nose and tells me he has protection from the plexi glass. Yes, he is protected from the buyers all wearing their masks, but we are NOT protected from his spits on the food he serves. Taco trucks have been all the rage lately, as have other food trucks hawking cheap, freshly made eats ready to travel at a Twitter's notice. Such is the case with that nameless BBQ stand outside Island Pacific. They're not portable but they serve decently priced, good quality food. These guys are out there only during week-ends, grilling pork, frying fish balls (not fish genitals, peeps--fish patties shaped into balls and usually made from cuttlefish or pollock, per Wikipedia) and grilling those red hot dogs that are shockingly red for those who didn't grow up in the Philippines. During the summer, a couple of guitar players serenade shoppers that stream in and out of Island Pacific and those in line at the BBQ stand. I tell you, it's just like being in Manila without the barefoot street urchins in tattered shirts (but talking on their iPhone), the smog, the heat and humidity, the trash burning in the streets. The fishballs are sold at 6 pieces for $1 and there are jars of sweet and spicy sauces to drizzle over your balls. I've not had the BBQ because I'm not patient enough to put my name on what is sometimes a really long waiting list filled with "Baby's", "JunJun's" and "Boy's" who've signed up for 50 BBQ sticks. This stand only appears on the weekends and it gets really busy so your best bet is to show up early like when they just starting in the mid-morning. They have 2 kinds of deep fried fish ball: One is the plain white made from fish and the other one is made from lobster colouring, it's 4 pieces/$1.00. The Meat BBQ they sell comes in 2 kinds: 1 is $1.25 and they have a more premium meat for $2.00 each. they also sell cold canned sodas and bottled water as well for $1.00. If you have $5.00,,you're good to go and you're surely to be stuffed! This place is Standing Room Only so don't expect a seat or something because this BBQ stand caters to people on the go. Here's plan for you: if you can...bring 2 cups of steamed rice from your house buy some BBQ here then you have a filling lunch with beverage on the side.
