    BBQ the Filipino way

BBQ is just right, both chicken and pork. The seafood balls is just right as well. But the people's preparing and serving its customer, play a big role in keeping customer happy and satisfied.

MEAT ON THE STICK I love to go to fine dining to eat different types of elegant, tasty food yet there are some food that makes me happy such as street food. This place is an example. When I go to visit my cousins at Stockton I go to V Tropical Bakery to buy them bread. I always see this stand outside the bakery. I knew one of these days I would have to try this place on a day when I don't go to Stockton. The last couple of weekends when I'm hungry I come here to buy the BBQ pork sticks. This place specializes in BBQ pork sticks. The portion of these sticks are generous. There is no need for rice. Each cube of BBQ pork has the combination of meat and fat. Yet after eating a BBQ pork stick you won't feel bloated. If you're really hungry I recommend getting 3 BBQ pork sticks. After eating these pork sticks you'll be fully satisfied. I've tried other items such as the hot dog on the stick and deep fried lobster balls. The hot dog comes in a distributing red dye yet it's tasty, but not delicous as the BBQ pork stick. The lobster balls I find tend to be spongy not crispy. I believe it's because these lobster balls are bought frozen at Island Pacific Supermarket. It is because of these two items I can't give this plans a perfect 5-star rating. However you should only go here to get the BBQ pork sticks. These sticks are inexpensive - $1.50 per stick. Get a 2 or 3 sticks and you have yourself a meal for under $5. So if you're not only hungry but also feeling down and out for whatever reason I suggest coming here to eat a BBQ pork stick to make yourself happy.

This place is freaking awesome!!!! I come here a few weekends out of a month. I always order about 6 BBQ pork sticks and one or two Sarsi. They charge 1.25 per BBQ stick and 1 for an order of fishballs, not sure how much the hotdog is but who cares they have freaking BBQ pork. I'm not sure what they marinate the meat in but it's freaking awesome!!! The list to order pork BBQ gets pretty long after 9 or so so I suggest getting here at around 8 or 8:30. Believe me you won't be sorry you came here.

I always get something to nibble on here when we do our grocery, the people there always remember my order and it reminds me of the Philippines. We've been coming here since they first began bbqing up front and it's nice to see how much their business is booming now. Would highly recommend coming here if you need a quick Filipino BBQ fix or if your in the mood for some fried fish balls! So yummy!

There's a a generous amount of meat and it's always so tender. I would love if they made it a little more sour but that's my personal preference. The protein might be different depending on the day but they've all been good. The place is tiny, maybe like 10 chairs so you might have to wait at prime times. Service is friendly. A couple times they've told me to pick up to go orders at a certain time but I had to wait an additional 15-20min after arriving but not too big of a deal.

All other options I found to be rather mediocre and not worth getting again. Perhaps they were short-staffed when we arrived but it was hard to find a server to request anything. They were all in the back and only came out to bring out the food. We waited too long to ask for containers or the check. 20% gratuity was automatically applied and the total came out to almost $500. The meal wouldn't have been very enjoyable if not for the company so I don't think this was worth it. I may consider coming back just for the sisig.

I'm gonna check with my NorCal moots about this but sucks if that's true. I was going to comment on how this is one of few bastions of affordable, slightly more unique food in the bay area, but I guess that's not the case. I'm spoiled by having a Dollar Hits in SoCal literally down the street from me so I can't say this place compares, but it's at least an option for NorCal, you know? This definitely used to be another restaurant, but then retrofitted to be a grill. Super large grill in the middle for everyone to communally cook at indoors. This is a good combination between the outdoors grill it yourself and the indoors seating of both the SoCal Dollar Hits, so I thought that was nice. They have all the classics here, isaw (sometimes Dollar Hits doesn't have this unless you request -it's chicken intestines), large intestines, chicken skin, kwek kwek (battered quail eggs), and Tender Juicy bright red filipino hot dogs (a must). You can also order a side of rice and the sauces were self serve (made it a bit sticky). It gets a bit smoky in there even with the fans, but overall had an enjoyable time the time when I did visit.

They almost never answer the phone so it's best to just go in person and order for pick up. Just expect to wait a bit if you're going during the busier times of the days that they're open. It had been about a year since I last visited, and I was glad to see that prices hadn't changed at all. The highlight here for me has always been their lumpia--or at least, it used to be. It was once fried to golden perfection, with just the right amount of loose wrapper that gave extra-crispy edges (if you know, you know). Looking back at older photos, the lumpia had a noticeably deeper golden-brown hue compared to the lighter version I received this time, as well as seemed a bit longer in size. This made me sad; but it was still good, just no longer exceptional. In addition, the broasted chicken has always been just decent; the skin is great but the meat on the inside is always a bit dry and definitely requires some gravy or sauce to dip it in. Despite the lumpia switch-up, prices are still unbeatable for the bay, so I'd come back. I did notice that they seemed to have a new cook in the back, so here's to hoping that next time, the lumpia reverts back to the way it was!
