Maharlika is your typical hole-in-the-wall that serves up tasty and affordable treats, but is rarely open. They almost never answer the phone so it's best to just go in person and order for pick up. Just expect to wait a bit if you're going during the busier times of the days that they're open. It had been about a year since I last visited, and I was glad to see that prices hadn't changed at all. The highlight here for me has always been their lumpia--or at least, it used to be. It was once fried to golden perfection, with just the right amount of loose wrapper that gave extra-crispy edges (if you know, you know). Looking back at older photos, the lumpia had a noticeably deeper golden-brown hue compared to the lighter version I received this time, as well as seemed a bit longer in size. This made me sad; but it was still good, just no longer exceptional. In addition, the broasted chicken has always been just decent; the skin is great but the meat on the inside is always a bit dry and definitely requires some gravy or sauce to dip it in. Despite the lumpia switch-up, prices are still unbeatable for the bay, so I'd come back. Loved my experience with Maharlika! I read many reviews that said getting ahold of the restaurant via phone was impossible so i dropped in to order. Ordered 150 pieces of lumpia for a party later in the day - but forgot to bring cash... the owner said she couldnt start cooking the lumpia until i paid so to return a little bit earlier than i wanted the lumpia cooked. I arrive at the specified time and paid and the lumpia was already done! The owner said she ended up cooking them anyways because she trusted i would come back. On our last visit, we ordered a lot of their chicken with lumpia. It was almost too much for me to carry by myself to the car so the shop owner offered their cart to help me bring out the food. Their service is great and very welcoming. The parking lot can get a bit hectic as this small little mall has a few local favorites for meals and snacks including Maharlika. The spots are tight but if all else fails, there is additional street parking just around the corner. We haven't had much issue finding parking but I'd imagine the peak dinner hours on the weekends can get a bit much. Overall, if you're craving for Filipino cuisine or have never tried broasted chicken, you need to make your way here to Maharlika! Had a party on a Sunday and the only place I could get Lumpia was this place and thank god they were open! Plaza is small but doesn't get as busy so parking won't be an issue. Plus they have other businesses around like a boba place to get your fix in. I've never had them so I ordered a 12 piece to try them and lord. It's probably better than the prior Lumpia place I use to go to. I was also looking at ALJX's review and it convinced me to order with them. Told the owner I needed a small tray (75 pieces) for Sunday 4:45pm and she happily assisted me and told me that would be okay. This review is simply for the catering request that was made few weeks ago. nothing else is included for this review. My friends have been calling for 3-4 days straight before their daughters 1st birthday with no luck. Luckily for them I live in the area and they have asked me to physically go in to place the order for pick up. When I walked in they had many catering orders ready and few people in line. I also noticed that there was no phone line ringing at all when I waited in line for 15-20 mins. This is more than likely why my friend could not place her order for the party. I ordered the Broasted Chicken, Munggo and Lumpia. All for less than $12. What a deal. Their dining area is not open for dining in, so you will have to take it out. They have a table where you can order as you enter, and as before, cash only. The Broasted Chicken is a little dry but has good flavor. The Munggo is on the thinner, not thick, side but is comforting, and the lumpia has a nice crunch. Hearty and filling meal for a really good price. I hope to be back sooner rather than later. They told me to come in just before opening as that would be better for them on the Sunday at 11:30 vs posted opening time of 12 pm. I was the only one picking up but they had my trays ready for me when we stepped in. Man this chicken is nice and crispy. Possibly overly crispy if you don't like stuff super fried but it's like close to almost over fried but it's just right. Skin on the chicken is so good and the lumpia has a good amount of meat and flavor. Inside it's set up for takeout only so no real seating inside except to wait for your order. They even poured out a nice small container of homemade sweet and sour sauce for the lumpia from a pitcher right when I picked up. They were going to be slammed with orders so I got my stuff and loaded it up. I got asked by 2 people from the party where the food came from so they are probably looking at some extra party business from my fam. I grew up on the famous broasted chicken from Maharlika. Any Filipino who lives in the tri-city area knows Maharlika for party catering. They also have complete meal combos great for dinner if you don't want to cook. The chicken party packs based on number of pieces are a great pick up for an easy family meal as well. I stopped in the night before to order a couple of things for a small kids' party the next day. The owner, who I liken to an uncle or even my Dad, was so helpful and kind. He's been there forever. (And I want to say he wasn't always as friendly in my earlier years going there, but this visit I was so pleasantly surprised. He was cracking jokes with the customers, calling everyone by name, and so patient.) He answered my questions and even threw in some extra lumpia to make sure we'd have enough for our party. The food was ready for pick up at the designated time. Many of our guests asked where the food was from and most would say, "Oh yeah, Maharlika," because they already knew about the good home cooking of this place. Before COVID, I would try to dine in when I was in the area. For a long time, their daily special was a 2-item combo plate with rice for only $5.00! Only in the last year or so did they raise the price to $5.75, still a bargain. I'd always get the broasted chicken in the combo, with the 2nd item switching between one of the lumpias or pancit, though my wife loves the sinigang (a tangy soup). More than anything, I come in to get a party pack. A large tray chicken (over 90 pieces) runs less than $65. If you need something to bring to a large potluck, you can't find a better deal. Just order in advance (required for any major holidays), or you might be waiting a long time for your food. Now with COVID, the dining room is closed (no outdoor seating here). You order at the door, and a few minutes they hand you your food. The chicken is cooked to order, so it may take a while. But it's worth the wait, as the chicken is perfectly hot and crispy. The chicken adobo & pancit are good too. I always order the 2 items daily combo that comes with rice. For the price & portion, it is a very good deal! The restaurant itself tucks in a small complex. Parking can be difficult during lunch & dinner time. Most of the time, I street parked near the complex. There are only few tables inside the restaurant. I usually order mine to go. The lumpia was very crispy with a crunch in every bite and it was very hot and well prepared along with the whole dish..its a nice hot plate of food,i totally recommended it over any fast food fried chicken.
