The food is the bomb-dot-com. From coworkers, they said this is the best in San Antonio. It is very amazing. I got a three meat only plate, with brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. My wife got the daily special. It was pulled brisket sandwich with chips and a drink for $6.75. She said the sandwich was fantastic. The brisket I got was great perfect smoke on the brisket. The pulled pork great. The sausage was out of bounds. I would recommend getting extra sauce. The sauce was great. You don't need much, but with three meat plates extra sauce would be great. The service was excellent. It would be in your interest to order ahead of time as they are always busy. I will be coming back here! read more

Wow oh wow! I'm so happy that I was told to eat at BBQLIFE! I'm over the moon satisfied with the delicious loaded baked potato with brisket and sausages I had today. I probably ate 1/3 of the potato when I'd started feeling full. The picture of the potato may not be good quality but the potato was excellent!!!! Those other places need to take notes when it comes to loaded potatoes. Also, I don't know what brand of sausage they use, but it's the best sausage I've ever eaten. When I drove up, I knew I was in the right spot. It smells like a good ol family reunion. You can smell the firewood, the pit, everything, oh. Okay. That's enough. I'm getting sad because my food is gone. I drove 30 minutes to eat here and I will drive 30 minutes over and over and over again! I have found my new happy place. The seasoning on the ribs was on point. Had a little kick to it I believe it is a black pepper rub. No sauce needed although I did put some of their sweet BBQ sauce which had a great brown sugar under tone. The pulled pork had a good smoke on it and was rendered out but still very moist The Mac and cheese The best I've had out A+ the brisket was a hefty portion and was very tender. A coworker highly recommended BBQLIFE. He was spot on. I love bbq and the meat they make is delicious and tender. I got the three meat plate with ranch beans and corn. The three meats were brisket,ribs and sausage. The brisket and the ribs were very tender. The sausage was good not great. The corn and ranch beans were just okay. Updated review! This place is still as great as it was when I first tried it! I have been coming here more than a handful of times and every time it is just as great the first time. Now as the other reviews say, the place itself may not be the nicest but the business is doing what they can with what they have and it is working! Some people complained about it looking bad but hey don't be judging the place off of looks as the food itself is what should really be pulling you in. Now trust me, everyone that I have referred to this place has fallen in love with it and never complained. The prices are good for the quality of cook you are getting so there's no complaints there. Brisket is dry, sides are not fresh. They literally taste store bought. I don't want canned corn or green beans. Just lazy. Mediocre bbq. Not sure why this place is mentioned many times. People at the counter are rude too. No customer service. I don't recommend this place at all. read more

Though not the easiest place to find - it's in a small former drive-in restaurant set back from the road - it's absolutely worth the effort! The Utlaw sandwich has probably a third to half pound each of brisket and sausage, both of which were smokey and juicy. Had the macaroni salad - meh - stick with the proteins! read more

Honestly, I'm not a big bbq fan but this place has changed my mind. It looks rough on the outside and the surrounding area is industrial but don't let the exterior fool you. Best bbq I've ever had (coming from California that probably doesn't say much lol) but seriously their food was so good! And massive portions. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Was visiting the area and went here based on a recommendation, so now I'm passing that recommendation along. The location and building is very unassuming because they give all their attention to the BBQ. I got brisket and ribs and both were delicious-Tender and moist. Being from Kansas City, I've had my fair share of bbq. This brisket was heavenly! Like velvet that melts in your mouth! I can't wait to go back. There are plenty of bbq spots in San Antonio. I had to wade through many ehhh ones, suitable ones, but it was going to BBQLife that I found a very good one. This is one of those places many people will just drive past. One reason might be because you are not sure it is open because it is in an old drive in or its just so inconspicuous among the other businesses. Many of the well-known bbg businesses throughout the area to me seem to be becoming tourist traps. The ones you constantly hear about seem to be living off the past and people are not willing to try something new. This place is one of those small spots that has been around for a long time but its reputation is bolstered by word of mouth and that word is good. Food is excellent especially the sides. The potato salad was on point. The sides had the taste like they were cooked by a person who spent their summers down south cooking in the kitchen. Meat had a nice bit of smoke but not too much with just the right amount of seasoning. What surprised me the most was the portion size you got in terms of your meat selection. Nothing worse than have that excitement building up and then getting home only to be disappointed by the size of the meat. Accidental Yelp double entendre about how the meat comes. If in the area this place is a good place to stop at for some food and if not in the area make that drive to get some BBQLife in your life. read more

First time there. First time in San Antonio. LOVED the food! I had the 2-meat plate. Brisket and ribs. For my 2 sides I had potatoe salad and pinto beans. Hubby got the chicken plate with the same sides. Took it back to our hotel to eat in the air conditioned room. (This place isn't pretty and only eating outside but the food was worth it.) BEST FOOD EVER!!! Loved the smoke on the meats! Tenderest meat, all of them, that I've ever eaten. Potato salad was good. Pinto beans also good. Their bbq sauce was delicious. You don't need much and it's not too sweet. Large serving size. I'd definitely go back again! It's easy to drive by. Keep your eyes open. read more

The food here is AMAZING! Absolutely in the top 3 BBQ that I've had in my 50+ years! The ribs and brisket were tender and incredibly flavourful. Sausage was excellent. The sides were great, too! A decent amount of food for the price, and the gentleman at the counter was friendly and attentive. It's definitely worth the stop if you're in SA. This is a local shop away from the street that looks like it might have been a Sonic or something forever ago. The sign is broken so it's easy to miss. Ok guys I don't usually brag about bbq places but if you find yourself in San Antonio you have got to try Bbqlife! Best BBQ I've eaten in Texas so far! The brisket was stupid good, moist, amazing smoke and great bark. The sausage was fantastic, the ribs were incredible and absolute perfection on the sides. This is the shocker, 3 meat tray and 2 sides and drink was $21.00 it would have cost me 40-50 at the big name spots, no inside seating, no ambiance just freaking good bbq!! read more

Was headed to work and Google mapped some bbq spots near me. Ended up choosing bbq life and great choice. It's setup is like Sonics in case you drive by trying to spot it. I ordered the rib plate with potato salad and beans. Oh yeah, u get a choice of beans....baked, pinto, or ranch. All the food was spot on with flavor and texture. Even the lemonade was correctly made. Needless to say I was late I'm guessing due to short staffed but well worth it. Fyi......the food is packed in the to go box so definitely no skimping here lol. read more

This is the hidden gem of San Antonio!! Best BBQ we ever had. The meat really does melt off the bone. The brisket is to die for. A must have. My father being a disabled vietnam veteran. This tyoe of respect is hard to find in todays world so i solute them for that. Now i am a bbq connoisseur. I went with the beef brisket, pulled pork and two sides. My wife got the same. I had the fried okra and the mac and cheese for mybsides. My wife went with the mac and cheese and fries. Our 8 year old decided to go with the chicken tenders and french fries. Our food came out just as i had sat down with my sweet iced tea. And my wife and sons lemonade. Our family has traveled to just about every state east of the Mississippi river. Trying the off the beaten path diners and restaurants. And have had bbq in about half of them states. And i will say this. The brisket was hands down the best brisket i have ever had. Not to dry but not watered down with artificial flavorings. Just the mouth watering taste or beef cooked low and slow over the hardwood fire fueled by the split chunks of wood stacked out back. The way it should be done. It is the perfect stop after showing friends and family the Alamo and the River Walk before heading back home. Just be prepared for a line because every time we have gone, there is usually one. It moves, but it is definitely part of the experience. Our go to items are always the lip smacking brisket. We order a pound of regular and a quarter pound of lean. Both are tender and flavorful. The ribs and sausage are also solid choices. For sides, we rotate between the well seasoned green beans, mac and cheese, beans and okra. All of them are excellent and you really cannot go wrong. Side note. I am not a fan of their corn. I prefer corn that leans sweet rather than spicy, so it is not my favorite. Next time I go, I already know what I want to try. Either the Brisket Sandy or the Brisket Grilled Cheese. Both look incredible.
