If you're one of the few unfortunate enough to not enjoy BD's, it could only be for one of two reasons: 1. You don't know what you like to eat. 2. You suck at cooking and don't realize it. I have had bad service at BD's on occasion, but never at this particular location. That being said, I just wish I lived closer to it so it could have more chances to try to disappoint me unsuccessfully. The meat selection is awesome, especially the ribeye and seafood (shrimp, scallops, calamari, tilapia). Lots of variety on the vegetable and sauce & spice bar too. Here's what happens at BD's: you're given an empty bowl about the size of two fists put together. You walk up to the "meat bar" and fill your bowl with whichever raw meats you like, as much as you like. There are many options such as fish, shrimp, sirloin, pork, (marinated) chicken. You can even pick noodles here. Then, if you have any room left, you head to the "vege bar" and do the same for many vegetable options. (I suggest getting an egg here as well). Lastly, you finish off your selection by creating your own combination of sauces and spices at "sauce bar". Now, carefully carry your piled-high bowl over to the cooks and they will stir fry it right in front of you. And then you're very happy and very full. I came here for the first time awhile ago. My friend invited me. I was honestly leery. I had Mongolian bbq years ago and it was mediocre at best. It definitely wasn't authentic and tasted more like cheap bbq. My friend and her husband gave me the run down of what you do. They helped me choose which sauces would go best (or which ones they usually get). The waitress asked if I wanted rice or lettuce leaves and with it being my first time, I asked for both. I was impressed that the selection of meats and seafood was not extra. The men that cooked our meals were efficient and when my friends husband tipped them, they did some tricks. My food was delicious. In fact, I've been craving it ever since. However, because I did not know the process, wasted a huge thing of rice. I only used the lettuce leaves. The servers weren't super attentive. I get that it's more like serve yourself but she didn't explain the process at all. I knocked a star for that. Otherwise, it was delicious. I do kinda wish the bowls were slightly bigger. They're about the size of a miso soup bowl for $17+ which is pretty steep but I get they have to make money. What's not to like here? This is the Asian cuisine's answer to Chipotle but much more. There is a wide array of meat, veggies and sauce you can choose to make a custom plate. Seriously...the options are near limitless. Once you choose your fixinngs, you take your raw meat and veggies to your "grill master" where they chop/mix/grill your concoction right before your eyes. Nice unique place to go where you can basically make your own stir fry from scratch and your own sauces. Kind of odd seeing the raw meat just lay there on their salad bar but that is the way it works. Usually a long line waiting around the big circular 500 degree grill to have their freshly piled up bowls fried and diced before their eyes. They do have beer which makes it alot better. So it's a build your own stir fry bowl place. There are more veggies and meats to choose from than there are unused registers at Walmart..A TON! I was really excited because I had never been to one of these before and I love Asian cuisine so I thought this would really quench my craving. Well it tasted awful! The griddle they used to cook on had been running all day without getting cleaned and the food tasted like burnt oil. I got the unlimited bowl so I tried 3 different things to make sure it wasn't me, but honestly the best part of the meal was the salad. I've heard if you go early for lunch it taste much different, but I just left feeling like i had licked a grill at a National Park. This is a really hard review to write. I've been a customer since the month Billy Downs opened the first one in Royal Oak, MI. The food was unbelievably tasty, and every time I went back, the choices were more plentiful, and the service got better and better. Before long, it was easily my all-time favorite restaurant. It was a special place to go, and somehow, the staff always remembered me and my family. Quite a few years ago, however, the restaurants were apparently bought by a corporation -- and it didn't take long for the quality of the food to go down, and although the service has always stayed positive, I have spoken to many of them who have been so very down about the state of the restaurants, having to be super pushy about things like desserts, and that corporate management has taken the place of the family atmosphere that the staff so deeply loved. The last time I have eaten at BD's, I had to ask for a second bowl because the meats just didn't taste quite right. It's so disappointing. I will say, however, the people that work at BDs always manage to stay friendly and happy, and always treat us so well. This place used to be one of my favorites. It's really gone downhill. It was absolutely FILTHY! I almost fell twice because my shoes got STUCK to the sticky floor. Both in the bar and dining room. There was no teamwork between the servers, I returned my wine because there was dried crusty stuff on the inside of my glass. Super disappointed. This place has so much potential. I had never visited one of these locations before but boy am I gonna come back! The visit had some hiccups but the overall food experience was amazing! The line up includes a large variety of meat and seafood, different selection of noodles, veggie bar, and sauce bar. You select your own combination of what items you would like and then they're cooked hot & fresh right there and then in front of you. This location has amazing teriyaki lo mein. It was hard to not grad seconds. They also offer a variety of soups and salads, desserts, and appetizers. Our service today was not great due to lack of service from the waiters/waitresses on duty. I've ate here before and I was very surprised I hadn't documented my experience. I've never had a good experience here but this place is not to blame. It's me. I pick out all I like to eat, like it up in a bowl and am always very underwhelmed and sometimes sickened. Perhaps it was at a different BD's. I've been to many for some strange reason. Always screwing up my dish. Since I am with my family of 5 they sit us back with the family tables and not the booths. There is a large black family back here. Black people are so much cooler than my hillbilly/Filipino (Fil-Billie's) family. Whenever I'm that loud I just get beat up. They almost sound melodious. My family got 4 of the bowls. I choose to let the chef screw up my meal this time. Shazam. It was actually pretty good. I got 3 Asian "street" tacos. I've been to Asia much and have yet to eat a taco off the street which is apparently all the rage in America. I got fish tacos. They were a far cry from actual San Diego fish tacos but they were far better than letting me destroy a bowl with my culinary ignorance. My family dug their bowls. My oldest daughter likes to cook and create stuff. My youngest doesn't eat enough to keep a bird alive anyway so I don't know if she liked hers or not. She DIDNT get seconds. read more

Truly a haunting experience at this restaurant. I used to love BDs. We were super excited to have a Saturday date night here after not being there for a long time. I understand we visited while it was busy and employees were overwhelmed.... But there was a ton of carelessness by the employees that actually made us sick to our stomachs by the end of it... We ordered appetizers and sat with no silverware or plates for at least 10 minutes. When the waiter brought out plates, he set down dirty ones from the kitchen then walked away for at least 10 minutes. Still no silverware. He didn't check in or ask and then kept eyeing us from a distance before disappearing. We ended up having to ask the host for clean silverware. Im not sure if any of our plates or bowls were ever clean, one of which literally had rice and sauce still caked inside of it when he handed us a stack of bowls to use (hidden from his view at the time). Besides that, we also never got an appetizer that we ordered - which we didn't even realize because we were actually scared to eat. Luckily, the waiter brought it up when giving us our bill and it was then given to us for free (probably the only good part of our experience). It felt awkward and aside from that, the soup/ salad bar was a mess. The meats were set in the tins as partially frozen. Nothing looked overly fresh. The counter all across the bar was unkept, covered in sauce, and had condiments mixed between the bins. Neither of us finished any of the food we got. The poor meat quality made both of us not finish our food. Perhaps it was just a rough Saturday night for them? But we won't be returning... beware. read more

Do they have amazing drink specials? Yes... Reason? You have to have several drinks in order to stomach the poor service and high priced food. We entered and were promptly seated. Our party of five waited approx. 10 minutes before our drink order was taken, or bowls offered. It's not like we were having to sit and look at menus to make a selection. The waitress was prompt on refills but that was about it. It took another ten minutes to have our check given. The cooks at the grill were friendly, fast and fun to watch. The music (eating to Brittney Spears You drive me crazy" was not what I expected. It was loud, and annoying. I don't mind background music of all types, but the teen bop music... no thank you. I felt like I was trying to eat inside a Pac Sun, granted I think they play better music. The bowl you receive for $12.99 is the size of a regular salad bowl. You can attempt to load it up as much as possible, but after the food is cooked down, you do not have quite enough. For an extra $2.00 you can have unlimited trips which is the only way you can truly test out what you like. You get to pick what you eat, but what you cannot gauge is how much sauce to use. A little and no flavor, a lot and it's over powering... You have to play with it to make it exactly what you like, thus requiring the extra $2.00 fee. They brought out white steamed rice that was so hard and compacted into the bowl, that I had to break it apart with a fork. It was paste-like and none of us touched it. The tortillas are not freshly made, they are prepackaged and slightly warmed. Kids meal price is $6.99 for 3 to 12 years old, drink .99 cents. My impression was... this place is trendy and perfect for a younger crowd who are there to drink. It is fun to try and make your own concoctions, but I can take my children to a better lower priced place to eat. read more

I don't think I could write a review for Bd's that truly does the place justice. This restaurant, specifically this Lexington location, has been an integral part of my life literally since the night it opened. Early in our relationship, my now wife (then girlfriend) and I tried this place out on its first night. We were immediately hooked and would go back dozens of times during our years as UK students. The place was great for foodie college students as we were able to fill ourselves up with different creations for a reasonable price. We continued to come back to Bd's virtually every time we would visit Lexington as out-of-towners. We even decided to have our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at Bd's, as it's warrior room can be reserved and is perfect for a group of 30 or so people. Bd's was definitely a big hit for the dinner, which included many first-timers. Now we find ourselves back in the Bluegrass, however in Louisville. We recently tried the Louisville Bd's location, and I must say, it doesn't quite live up to the Lexington one. All in all, this place is really magical. You can go back countless times and have a completely different experience each time. The amazing thing to me is how tasty my creations are, no matter how much I change up my approach with a multitude of different proteins, veggies, sauces and spices. If you haven't tried Bd's yet, you owe it to yourself to make a trip. Just be open-minded and have fun with your bowl. Its a great spot to come with the family, go on a date, catch up wtih old friends, or virtually any other dining experience you could dream up. Went here for the first (and last) time October 28th. I didn't know what the concept was and I'm not a fan of it, but that wasn't the problem. The raw food station was messy and made me a little uneasy. There was broken eggs on the floor that stayed there the whole time we were there. There was plenty of staff, but no one seemed to care. The waitress was attentive and did a good job, but the food was mediocre at best. After our meal I went to the restroom, had I went in there before we ordered and ate our meal, I would have left immediately. It was a mess and smelled terrible. The Good: the food options, multiple sauces, multiple seasonings, posted advice on what things would go well with. The Bad: the inside decor is pretty bland and the restaurant in general lacks character, probably the worst thing was seeing one of the cooks with dip in his mouth. The Rundown: though the restaurant doesn't have much in the way or character they do make up some for the quality of the raw ingredients. Everything looks fresh and is smartly set up to make building your meal easy. This place can be a little overwhelming in the amount of options you have, shrimp, chicken, steak, calamari, and more. The veggie table has lots to offer but what held me up the most was the sauces. They have a lot of options and thankfully some little spoons to taste them. I like also how they let you know what sauce is best with what kind of protein by having print under the name. Everything was great up to this point, then while my food was being cooked I noticed the guy handling my food had dip in his mouth. You are preparing food, not working on a construction site, this is unacceptable. Furthermore this was right in front of the manager, so I know he couldn't care less about food standards. The Impression: I really like the concept, flavors and variety, and will be back because of this, the customization and flavors are great.
