Went to beach ball with friends for cocktails we had one down the street and went into the bar. Got 2 cocktails and went to the patio to enjoy them. Our friend which was on our same program went inside alone with having only had one cocktail before and came out stumbling and really messed up. She said she only had one drink alone with the bar tender and ordered another to enjoy with us. She came out stumbling and confused and sat with us. As soon as the bar folk realized she was with us immediately cut her off. And took her drink away from her. I believe she was drugged. 10 min later there were 3 bouncers waiting for us to not let us back in. She had a total of 2 drinks and is by no means a light weight at drinking. I'd never go here again. I'd Recommend no one go here unless you want to be drugged. We were kicked out onto the streeet and took an Uber home to take care of our friend that's now in the hospital having severe stomach pains. read more

After buying a couple of Peninsula priced drinks our time was cut short by The doorman who was horribly rude and the overall atmosphere of the bar was very negative. Ladies. You aren't safe here. Posting this to alert for all women. This review is late but this experience still doesn't sit right with me. Tried to get a bartender to call a cab for a very very drunk woman who was very disoriented. The bartenders were not only unhelpful, they were rude. After initially ignoring me, they very rudely told me that "She's a grown woman, she can handle herself." While that may be true, a bartender who talks like that is a red flag. That's not the type of place I want to recommend to other women. I helped the woman without a smidge of help from the two bartenders, who blatantly told me she wasn't "their problem," along with other dismissive comments. She was clearly in a very bad situation and they were very stand off-ish with me from the start. When it's last call, they don't give a hoot what happens to you. If I wasn't there to help her, who knows what would have happened to her. Some of the patrons were way more helpful, trying to help me get this woman to safety. Also, this bar sucks. It's a hole. I have a titanium rod through my leg because I was in a motorcycle accident... first guy/ bouncer asked me if I'm "okay" in a aggressive tone. I say; "yes of course" he says "okay, I just have to check you know that's my job." I'm walking... next employee / bouncer does the same exact thing. Then I say "why do you have to ask these questions in the aggressive tone... I am a customer.?!? Is this customer service? As I explained I have a hard time walking. Awesome place to hang out in Newport area. We hung out here last weekend over a coworkers birthday. I drank several Cadillac Marguritas and Jack Daniels with White Russians. Great place awesome staff and bar tenders. Shot some pool with a couple of random strangers until it was our turn to play. Best bars in Newport. No fights break out like Huntington Beach bars. I came here with my fiancé who is half Mexican and half black, he is 26 with a LEGAL ID from California (at that) and the bartender claimed that he wasn't able to take his ID. We all have CA ids including me, and we asked why he wasn't able to take the ID and he said he wasn't able to see the bear outlineS knowing that the ID is real we asked the bartender to point it out, we were all able to clearly see the CA bear outline on the drivers license, his response was " it's too hard for me too see it" clearly a lie!!!!!! Since it was a legit iD and we all have the same type of license where the CA bear is able to be shown. So disappointed in New port and this bar. Rad bar, cool bartenders, awesome location... if they let you in. This is one of my favorite bars on the peninsula because it's just the right amount of dive. The people are cool and friendly and its totally unpretentious and not a huge party of kids and shitfaced sunburns you'll find at Sharkeez down the way. I've never had any issues there whatsoever, until recently when a group of friends and I went there while out barhopping. We had no issues getting in anywhere else, but Beach Ball would not budge on letting my German friend (with a real, government issued German IDs - Yes, that's plural) in. Fine, there's risk if you can't check an ID you're unfamiliar with, but there should be some way. After all, she'd even been there before. Yep. We were a group of 7 and we were excited to end the night at a high note at Beach Ball, but we all had to leave and literally just went next door. Again, totally understandable to an extent (if they already hadn't let her in before), but I think they could have figured something out rather than disappointing and turning away 7 people who would have had a great time there. Don't come here unless you want to be drugged. We had a glass of champagne before arriving last night. We consumed 1.5 drinks at the bar before things got blurry and we were on the verge of starting to black out. Thank god we were staying nearby. Try to go when Chuck is bartending, he's super chill and knows exactly what drink to give you, even if you've been drinking all day. He'll surprise you. Sometimes the place is filled with entitled 20somethings who are just trolling for free drinks, so be careful! Otherwise this place is a hoot and always a good time. Came here after Sharkeez one Sunday in July. I 'll be honest, I don't like dark rooms on Sunny gorgeous days but I was overruled so we arrived here. I hoped for a patio but NOPE, sat at the bar overlooking the pool tables instead. If you're beach front, please at least have the option to open the windows...? Maybe I'm just partial to the sun... or this place is just better at night? They open at 6am which is pretty cool - $8.50 for a pint of coors light and a red bull. Not bad. 3 pool tables and 6ft of ocean view windows at the front. Fun little dive bar. Came here on a Thursday night with a friend of mine to grab a drink since the bars next door were all closed. We just wanted some beers and they had two light beers on tap, as well as a Widmer IPA & Shocktop. Can't really go wrong with the Shocktop! Also tried the Widmer, and as IPA goes, it's a more easily accessible IPA compared to others, but still quite heavy! Each pint was only $5. Good price. There was also a group of people there that came to Beach Ball after an event so the place was quite lively, although I can see this place being a little slow on a Thursday. Some were there earlier watching sports on the TV since there are a few LCDs around. Overall, the place just has a really laidback atmosphere! Bartender is a really chill dude! read more
