This is a great restaurant with great food, great presentation, strong drinks and cool beach bum atmosphere. They have a brunch deal that can't be beat, 3 drinks and a main course for $29.50. The place is located near the Q train 72nd Street subway stop so you can take in some scenic homeless people on the way over. I had an egg dish which came in a mound with all kinds of goodies in it. Nonet had a salad which was really beautifully presented. She said it was one of the best she ever had. Chose this restaurant because it was in close proximity of my daughters college. NY City School of Interior Design. The Lunch Menu does include some brunch offerings. Two of us ordered the Cheeseburger. Marketed as the Best Cheeseburger in Manhattan. So I had to try the Bacon Cheeseburger, It was cooked perfectly. Bacon was nice and crispy. My best bet is this was a fresh patty not frozen. I would give this burger a strong 8.5 out of a ten. Would and will have that again. I believe the cheeseburger was $14 and the Bacon CB was $16. Not bad for Manhattan. Also ordered was the FRENCH TOAST AMERICANA. This was ridiculously delicious. 10 out of 10. Next was the CHICKEN & WAFFLES. The waffle was cooked to order, was soft fluffy and awesome. The Chicken was lightly breaded and deep fried to perfection. Perfect Dish. Another 10 out of 10. Nice choice of salads! My roommate and I decided to treat ourselves to brunch this past Saturday, and Beach Cafe offers an amazing deal! Upon arriving we were promptly seated at a socially distanced outdoor table. The patio is super cute with the gingham blue table cloths and there was an accordion street performer too (although I don't believe he was associated with the restaurant)! The service was fantastic, with our waiter checking in on us multiple times. We both did the brunch deal which comes with 1 entree and 3 drinks for only ~$24! We both ordered the Croque Madame and Bloody Marys to start. The food was good! The eggs were cooked perfectly, although a bit underseasoned. The salad on the plate was very minimally dressed, which doesn't bother me but it bothered my roommate. We ordered Bellinis for our second drink and Mimosas for our third. Overall we really enjoyed the meal and drinks, loved the service and vibe of the restaurant. Definitely would recommend checking this place out for the affordable brunch deal! read more

So I have to start by saying, the food we had was pretty good. I really don't have a lot of complaints about the food, other than the fact that the avocado toast was simply one piece of toast (I guess I thought there would be more), but granted that one piece of toast was delicious. Everyone else at my table also enjoyed their food, so that's a plus. I'm really writing to discuss service. Earlier in the day, I called to make a reservation for 4 at 7:30 because their website and yelp said that they take reservations. I was told they were not taking reservations and that it's first come first serve. Okay, great. So we arrive around 7:30. My friends and I were catching up when we were asked multiple times in a small period of time if we were ready to order. We had ordered wine already, but we were being rushed to decide. After the fourth time of being asked if we were ready to order, our waiter said we needed to hurry and order because there was a show starting at 9:30. I was a little upset because this could've been portrayed when I called earlier in the day, however, it was not. So we finally order. Our food comes out quick. Great. We are still being rushed throughout our meal. Everyone is staring at us ready for us to leave. At around 9:20, we felt so uncomfortable that we did leave. When we stood up to leave, we were told the front door is locked and we were all but pushed through a back door. We were not necessarily ready to leave yet, so this was a little unexpected. (1) Please tell chef that muffins should not be served black and as hard as a hockey puck; I showed the three people who came to the table and no one seemed to care. (2) Please train your staff on the difference between Bellini and Mimosa -- and a clean cup versus a filthy one. (3) In 2018 English Muffins are tres passé -- but if you insist on serving them with everything at least toast them for the "avocado toast," you guys; the dish you guys served me was disgusting. (4) The waiter shouldn't ram a ton of food into his mouth and then come to the table to speak to us while he's chewing. Don't you guys train or vet your staff at all? I particularly felt like I was being punked when I was told that you guys don't take multi cards or split checks. You're in the upper east side... it's not a very realistic expectation. The hostess said "We don't split checks because we get crowded and it would take forever." For a place that should be shut down as one giant health department violation? Wow. Meh...this part of town really does nothing for me. After eating at UpThai a few blocks away, we weren't exactly ready to call it a night. We wanted to have a few drinks to help lubricate the conversation. This place was pretty dead by 11pm. There were still a few stragglers hanging around, you know, the alcoholics and those that never sleep. Nothing particular stood out about this place except for the bouncer trying to shoo us out by 12:30pm. I mean I get it, it is Sunday night, but also this is NYC. Like seriously? This was my first time here (white man). My husband (black man) is a regular who comes often after teaching or other events. We walked in tonight and the host (maybe owner) immediately said, before even saying hello, that their policy was no hats in the dining room. My husband was wearing a paper boy hat, so not a ball cap or otherwise casual hat, but an accessory to his outfit. When called out on this racist policy, the host (owner?) said it was a "gentlemanly" rule, not racist. When we left, he said not a word. Not even bye and thank you. My husband addressed him on our way out and he tried to wave him away and wouldn't engage. Mind you, it's a beach cafe, playing sports on the television, with checkered table clothes on the tables. Clearly not a fancy establishment that would warrant any kind of dress code like this. We're in NYC. In 2022. Let's cut the racist dress code policies and stop targeting black people to be excluded from your establishment. read more

Came back to try the oysters for happy hour - had a great time catching up with a friend and was served my favorite, Blue Point oysters on the half shell (you must order in 6s). The bartender was super talkative and kept my drink from ever reaching empty. It's a bit of an older, casual group of regulars in Lulu Lemon that shows up for happy hour on a weekday. I didn't feel out of place, but I significantly lowered the median age in the room. It's refreshing to find a bar where, after 5 o'clock, it is not so jam packed with young professionals eager to forget the boring events of their day that you can actually enjoy your drink. I stand with what I said about brunch and their drinks, but the last time I had brunch there, they didn't seem to put the same amount of care into my food as they had before. read more

I've been here a few times now and I think some of the more critical reviews are a bit over dramatic. This is not a Michelin Star Place it's a "Local Community Favorite Place." I actually like the no stroller policy and I'm a parent! :) There's a million other places that have the same policy. And many others to choose from that don't. This seriously should not be a big deal to want some quality adult time. Fact is food is made to order so it's fresh. The brunch is on point and their lobster night is definitely a valuable hit! The atmosphere is guest friendly and the service is good. There are always two sides to a story and people make mistakes show me a restaurant that hasn't. All in all I enjoy the food and service. Came here on Sunday with a group of friends for brunch. The menu is quite small, and you should try to arrive before noon to be eligible for a complimentary cocktail with your meal. I had the eggs benedict which was good and Hubby had the scrambled eggs with salmon. Each entree comes with home fries but you have to request toast if you want it (at no extra charge, but it doesn't come with the meal automatically.) The service was good, but I felt the prices were kind of steep for the quality and amount of food you get. I wouldn't suggest this place again, but if a friend wanted to go I'd be ok. read more

We got seated before the wait time that was given, which was nice, but with all the waiting from the wait staff, really didn't make a difference. I went here before reading the other reviews and now I see that my experience was very much the norm. Wait time: The restaurant wasn't full, but I waited almost ten minutes to get seated. The host was on the phone taking an order and would not let any of the waiters seat us in the meantime. Service: Rather than having a consistent waiter, we had many. Whoever was closest would take our drink order or our food order or anything else we needed. The lack of consistency not only made it difficult to determine who to ask for things but it also lessened the responsibility on a single waiter. As a result, we ended up waiting quite a while for things like a refill of water or a side of extra sauce. Cleanliness: There was dirty silverware wrapped up in my napkin when I sat down. I asked a waiter to replace the fork that had dried lettuce encrusted on its prongs. After that, no complaints about cleanliness. Food: Decent food for a decent price. I ended up having a bad aftertaste in my mouth for the rest of the night though. Environment: Granted, I was there at 8pm on a Sunday night, but I was the only one in the restaurant under the age of 50. Decor: Jersey shore meets Italian restaurant. Not my thing. read more

We approached the venue with the intent of sitting outside and having a few drinks and some light food. I was wearing a sleeveless shirt and shorts and my companion was wearing a tee shirt and capris. After sitting down, I was hurriedly approached by a man complaining that they have a dress code for outside seating (it was 84 degrees out) and waved a white dress shirt staff uniform in my face. I tried to come here with my sister, brother in law and baby. We have a small, compact stroller that can easily fold up. Our car seat can also easily fit on a high chair or on a regular chair. When asking if we could be seated inside or outside, the hostess told us she will not seat us because we have a stroller. He was peacefully sleeping and the entire outside 15 tables were empty. I quite honestly have never been more offended in my life. Is it legal to not sit a group of people at an empty restaurant on a Sunday morning because they have a child? The first time I visited Beach Cafe, my husband and I had a pretty nice meal -- nothing very special, and the Waffle with Strawberries was more of a waffle with one strawberry cut up as a garnish, which I thought was a little stingy. But the woman working there was very nice, and she said that we should come back with our son someday -- so we did. Today, we took a walk over to the Beach Cafe after church with our 4 year old and yes, we were turned away because of their "No Stroller" policy. I offered to fold it up and keep it outside, or under our table -- no dice. I was really confused: this is a struggling spot that is typically almost empty every time I walk by -- and it and constantly has construction going on on front of it -- and they're turning people with strollers away on the Upper East Side? I'm sure it must be because they want to discourage families with kids from dining there so they can attract the younger/older crowd (with their bigger bar tabs) -- which I'm not even sure is even legal. But there it is. We obviously won't be back, and I'll be sure to tell my neighbors and colleagues (with kids) about their strange no stroller rule. read more
