I've been to the beach hut deli in Sac and have similar opinions about this location. I never came here in my 4 years as a UCD student since it's quite far unless you live in east/south Davis. The sandwiches are very tasty and adequately sized. I ordered the regular sized meatball sub (6") which had 5 meatballs covered in a mound of mozzarella! The amount of cheese is what made this sandwich great. It's impossible to eat the meatball sandwich with hands so it comes with a fork and knife. Grab some napkins!! The staff weren't too chatty or welcoming but were polite nonetheless, while service was quick and painless. It was my first time here and it took a while for me to choose a sandwich, they have an extensive selection. I ended up ordering one of the "gourmet" sandwiches, The Surfin Cow which comes with roast beef, avocado, cream cheese, bacon, lettuces, tomato, onion and pickles. I ordered the "regular" size which is a 6' inch bun. My total came out to $10.77. I noticed immediately that they had forgotten the avocado. One of the things that attracted me here were the yelp reviews that mentioned this place gives TONS of avocado with their sandwiches... mine came with none. Fortunately, they kindly gave it on the side when asked. The sandwich was good. But I think $10.77 is a biiiitttt expensive for a 6' inch sandwich. The large size, which I'm assuming is a foot long, is $14 before tax. Especially if your sandwich is supposed to have avocado, bacon, other "special" ingredients, make sure those are included in your sandwich because it's definitely included in the cost! Unfortunately during these times, the place is only available for take out. But I have to say the quality of their food is good but it is pricey, you are basically paying for the overhead at that huge place. I think if you get a medium sandwich, chips and a drink you're almost looking at twenty bucks which is quite a bit for lunch, I can't imagine having a couple of beers with that, you're probably looking 40 bucks. Beach Hut Deli is so underrated, I'm surprised it's not always swarming with students. To cut to the chase, the shark bite is my favorite sandwich from this place. The pig kahuna is popular but it depends on how fresh the pineapples were. I actually had to pick the diced pineapples off of mine because it made the rest of the sandwich taste funny. The sauce were great though- spicy, but just right. I normally take my sandwiches to go, but it's such a great place to sit and relax. Their soda dispenser is efficient and really fun to use! This was my first time at their new location. The quality of their sandwiches have actually gone up! My sandwich was fresh and absolutely delicious! It is a bit expensive, but worth it, since I always have half a sandwich to take back for a second meal. Or you can always split a sandwich with a friend. They also have the cool multi-flavored soda machine. The interior is spacious and you'll feel as if you're on vacation. Step in the door, peruse the menu, place your order at the counter, and pick up your order on the other side of the counter! No table service, but the employees are very cheery! There are also some comfortable couches if you choose to dine outside. Wish it wasn't so far! It's a little past Target, and across the street. However, you won't need to worry about parking since they have a private lot. I wish I had a car so I could come here more often! read more

I used to work near the Citrus Heights location and my office would all get lunch there fairly regularly because they were consistently good with massive portions, lots of toppings, and amicable staff. I came to this Beach Hut Deli location once with visiting family in October 2018 and mine and everyone's food was terrific, the location was in good condition, it was just as good as Citrus Heights. A lot has changed since then. I took a chance on the Skinny Dipper (french dip) instead of my usual all veggie Californian. Although I did get a pretty big pile of roast beef, that's about all there was on it. There were maybe three slivers of onion. I don't even remember there being cheese or the taste of pepper. And speaking of taste, it was surprising lacking for so much roast beef. I ate half of it and took the rest home to eat later but I ended up chucking it. It just wasn't worth it. My spouse got a Surfin' Cow. The topping distribution was lazy so that you either got a bite of meat or a bite of toppings and never the twain should meet. Given how apparently miserable the staff seemed to be even though it was the start of their shift, I'm not surprised the sandwich was just haphazardly thrown together -- we came in at 11am on a weekday to use a coupon and were barely acknowledged by the glum and dour staff. I felt nervous asking questions about options because they were so unfriendly I felt like any minute they were going to roll their eyes and sigh in disgust. I've worked in retail and food service, I know that it sucks and you're usually overworked and underpaid. I work in a customer service-adjacent position right now and it can be stressful and unhappy. But it would be nice to be given the benefit of the doubt rather than treated like we're idiotic A-holes. In addition to all of the above, the soda machine was mostly empty. I noticed it was supposed to have both root beer and cream soda and I got curious about ordering something only to realize it only offered water, Powerade, lemonade, and some kind of lemon-lime soda (don't remember which). I don't usually drink soda so it's a good thing I didn't want any because those were all gone including diet and sugar free. And one of the bathrooms had no paper towels. At 11:00am. What the hell is wrong with everyone over there? What is the owner subjecting you to to make you so disinterested in barely lifting a finger? I'm really disappointed because I was hoping for a fun lunch spot with friends once in a while but I'll pass. I'd rather get a mediocre 6" from Subway for dirt cheap than blow $10-15 on something even worse. I'm awarding two stars instead of one because at least the place was clean. read more

I was here a couple months ago, for lunch on a business trip. Wasn't where I would have personally picked, but when you're on business, sometimes you don't have a choice. I will say, while the sandwich I had (I want to say turkey and salami? Something like that) wasn't mindblowing, everything did taste fresh, and it was completely, absurdly packed with everything. So if your goal is getting a really unique sandwich, maybe go somewhere else, but if your goal is just getting a good sandwich for a good value... this place is basically Subway, except higher-quality ingredients, then stuffed into your sub to the gills instead of being stingy with the meat and cheese (if you don't have a huge appetite, like I did, you'd probably want the 6 inch. I got a footlong, obviously :p.) So, I can certainly recommend the sandwiches. I can't recommend the soup I tried, though - I figured, since the sandwich wasn't super interesting, and I could expense it anyway, I might as well try an interesting-sounding soup (lasagna). It was pretty bland - pretty much just tasted like watered-down tomato sauce, with some noodles and some cheap parmesan cheese. I was happy with the speed of getting our sandwiches (given that there was a huge line), and the self-serve beverage machine was fun, too (normally in my experience, those mainly just stock soda, which, I hate soda - the one here had like a couple dozen flavors of non-carbonated sugary drinks, too. :)) read more

We come by about once a week because it's conveniently located. We always pay $2 extra to add bacon to a turkey and cheese - last week we get home only to find it without bacon. Ok. When I came in today to order the same sandwich, I let them know about the missing bacon. No, oops my bad, no acknowledgement whatsoever and didn't even offer to add bacon free of charge. Nope. Also, all this time no one has mentioned, hey, just order the Santa Cruz sans avocado and it's a whole dollar cheaper! The staff mostly seem annoyed to be there except for a young gentleman who is always friendly and attentive. Without him though, it's a depressing experience. I love the new Beach Hut Deli! Their new location can be a little hard to find even though it is right across from Target. It is in the same plaza as Chase, but on the other end where you exit the plaza. Plenty of parking! The interior of the restaurant is loaded with TVs, personal TVs for the booth tables, and large screen TVs for the bar. They have a bar, yay!! I can see this place being really popular as a sports bar once word gets around. Their sandwiches are SO GOOD. I feel like ever since I've had Earl's and Beach Hut , the rest of the sandwich places around just don't stack up anymore. It kinda sucks, but oh well. My favorite sandwich at Beach Hut is definitely the Malibu, but I've tried several sandwiches here and they are all pretty tasty so don't be afraid to experiment. (: Beach Hut is a little pricey, but you get a pretty big portion so it is reasonable. They were a little slow (20min) on making our sandwiches when we went even though they were pretty well-staffed, but I think that's because they're still new. I love me a delicious sandwich! This location is pretty isolated, but a lot of people still come here. It is close by Target and the entrance to hwy 80. I think this part of the plaza will gradually gain popularity. Plenty of parking in the plaza. My bf and I split a Surfin' Bird medium sized $11.75 with drinks each $2 when I came here for the first time. But it wasn't my first time eating this. I did not know sandwiches comes in different sizes haha. It was delicious. You order and wait to pick it up at the counter. Self seating. They have the fancy machine that mixes different types of flavor with soda on a touch screen. It's nice but the soda still doesn't taste as good as the original type of soda dispense. No iced tea :/ Nice outdoor patio seating. Not really any views. There are TVs inside to watch games. A "bar" that you can sit and dine alone while watching tv. I'm conflicted... the sandwiches are yummy! BUT service is terrible... I ordered a salami Dude with chips and drink online for curbside pickup. I never received a email with my receipt & the order was suppose to be ready buy 12:11 pm. Online it says to call when you arrive. I pulled to the front of the building around 12:10 and called... I had to call 4 times for someone to answer, and I was placed on hold for over 5 minutes. Finally someone came back on the phone, I let them know my name and the car I'm in for my order. They came out and brought the bag and they ran back inside. By the time I left it was maybe around 12:25. There was no drink or chips in my bag. My 2 year was screaming in her car seat so I just thought to myself if I should go in or not & decided forget it and left. I know this will sound terrible but I was annoyed I left a tip and didn't get my chips and drink lol. I then decided to check yelp for reviews of this place. Come to find out they have a customer service problem and there long wait times. I can see the inside of the deli and there was MAYBE 4 other customers in there. Their new location reopened earlier this month. I was really excited because I'm moving away from Davis soon and I had hoped to go this place one more time. It looks only slightly bigger than their old location but they have their own bathrooms now. There is a bar type area with 2 pretty large tv's. Then they also have two booths that have individual smaller tv's. The overall decor is the same, still beach themed obviously. They also have the high tech soda fountain that the two Dos Coyotes in Davis have. The food still takes the same to me. I got a Spicolli, which was the sandwich that made me fall in love with Beach Hut Deli in the first place. The small was made with a roll instead of regular sliced bread, which is different from when I first got it. However, I tend to want to try new sandwiches whenever I go so I don't know if that's a recent change. The roll was amazingly soft even though it looks like it could be hard and crunchy. My friend got the Santa Cruz (hot) and she said it was really good. (Small Update: their skinny dipper is a sandwich that comes with au jus. First time coming here and I was greeting kindly and since I had no idea what I wanted my server Lauren gave me the down low of what to eat at this fine establishment. The Pig Kahuna was what I ended up picking and I was very happy with the choice. DELICIOUSNESS is the only word that I could use to describe what went into my stomach. The sandwiches here are muy bueno and the tomato soup was amazing, a perfect thing to sooth your throat. Beach Hut Deli is a good place all around with sandwiches of an Ike's Lair caliber. I recommend every item I post a picture of. New location around target is favorable. The interior of the restaurant feels like you are actually at the beach.
