They recently changed locations and are now located in the "cuts" of Davis near Target, but I promise you its worth the trip! Their sandwiches are also on the expensive side, but splurging once in a while its ok! Plus you can probably feed three people with the largest option! They also add cream cheese to their sandwiches, i know sounds a little weird, but it makes it oh so delicious! The place is an EXCELLENT spot to watch football or any sporting event. First off, this place gets very busy so if you are in a rush or on a lunch break it is best to order online. I must say I am a fan of any place that offers stamp cards. If you buy 10 sandwiches/salads you get 1 free. My favorite is the surfin' bird sandwich which is turkey, bacon and avocado. And my favorite salad is the BBQ chicken Salad. Of course I try this place for the first time on the day I'm moving out of Davis! Cute interior - the TVs in the booths would be great for watching sports games. Friendly employees who were patient with me as I read the entire menu and double-checked with me to ensure my order was correct. I also appreciated the high tech 100 flavor soda machine. This is a cute place for a quick bite. That was my intention when choosing to come here for the first time. Unfortunately this will be my last time visiting this franchise. The staff at this location were very uninviting and seemed as if they were irritated with the people that come in. Customer service was nonexistent. The sub was pretty good, but the service here is why I am giving Beach Hut Deli only 3 stars. If the food wasn't good, it would be a 2 or 1-star review. The cashier was very uninterested in doing her job and honestly pretty rude when I finally got up to the counter to order. I will say, I had never been here before so I didn't know what to order. Since there wasn't anyone behind me, I asked her what she recommended. I understand that she may have been in a bad mood or tired, but she was very condescending to me in her response. I ask for recommendations from cashiers and waiters/watresses often at new places and sometimes they don't have any or they don't want to give a recommendation, but they are always polite when they decline to give me a recommendation. The cashier here was not, she just pointed to the wall and said that the menu was right there. I also was not super impressed with the service of the rest of the staff there, but it may have been colored by my experience with the cashier. We've also used to their catering for meetings and they are always fantastic to work with, delicious and the food is ready on time. I give it 2 stars because the food is great! My company loves to order from there. My issue is that the staff can't handle large orders or when the shop gets busy. Sometimes online ordering is not available, so it's very inconvenient. I hope management can approve the ordering system and too be more organized. This place was nasty. None of the tables were wiped down, and their ice tea was totally STALE. I work in food and was flabbergasted that workers were wearing flip flops at work??? That's a health code violation!!! Heaven forbid what else they do there that puts customers health at risk. So me and my family are making a trip up and along California sight-seeing and we passed through Davis. We saw that this place had pretty solid ratings. We went in, ordered, and got our food in a reasonable amount of time. Food and portions were good, and prices were decent enough (things in California are so EXPENSIVE!) but I would really recommend checking in on the staff and making sure they follow health codes. I swear I'm not trying to stir up trouble, but when I was at the counter ordering, I saw cheese laying on the back counter exposed, exposed produce and deli meats, no one wore gloves, and some girl with a neck tattoo (a bird or a butterfly maybe?) scratched her pits! I have heard a lot of good things about this 'food chain' for really 'big and hearty' sandwiches. I stopped at the one at Davis since it was convenient. I was appalled about the 'poor quality' of their ingredients. I ordered the first one on the list with Turkey, Avocado, etc. thinking it was healthy but it was disturbing to find out that the Turkey meat was what i call 'plastic meat' which means it was not fresh and full of preservatives. What a disappointment for me about the chain and the poor quality of their ingredients. Oh, for this plastic meat, the price was $8.50 Yikes and the Coke was $2.75 Ouch. Needless to say, in this day and age, when customers look for 'quality', the chain seems to be out of touch. I would never go back again. Came here after a Target shopping trip (aka buying 100 things you don't really need) craving a sandwich. There aren't too many options on the menu to choose from aside from very basic sandwich choices. And they're oddly expensive for what you get. Avoid this location because this establishment is not very clean. The Vacaville location is a million times better than this one and has much better customer service! How come I never went when it was in downtown? The boyfriend raved about this place so of course we had to make a trip while we were visiting our alma mater. We were going to have a big dinner so we decided to share something for lunch. The interior is very tiki with surfboard tables and a tiki hut with plenty of televisions everywhere. But let's talk about that Malibu... it is simply one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Just thinking about it makes me salivate. It is so simple too, hot pastrami with melted swiss and sliced avocado between 2 cheesy garlic breads. There was substantial meat, so you totally get what you pay for. We had a very hard time walking out that door and trying not to order more. We will definitely make more trips in the future. read more

Long time Davis-ite and never been to Beach Hut so I figured I'd give them a try. I got the surfin' bird and while all the ingredients were fresh and tasty, the proportions were a bit off. On the plus side the sandwich is huge and packed with good stuff, but that also means you tend to get one bite of turkey, then one bite of avocado, so on. And while I've heard some people rave about the cream cheese on the sandwiches, it didn't really taste good to me, again because of the proportion - a thin layer spread on the bread would have been much better than a slab of it (not kidding, like 1/4 inch thick slice of cream cheese). While the sandwich was decent, I doubt I'll be back. Mr. Pickles and Zia's are a lot better, in my opinion, and not so out of the way. read more

Of all the sandweeeeeshes I have eaten in my lifetime, Beach Hut is still a mystery to me. Here are my tiffs/paradoxes: 1. The atmosphere and sandwich names are reminiscent of a shack on the beach... Davis is nowhere near a beach, as depicted by the lovely farm fields and train tracks surrounding this restaurant! 2. You expect this shack on a beach to offer decent food a a moderate-low price.... However, a "small" (granted it's not so small) sandwich will cost you 9 bucks, a medium will cost you 11, and a large will set you back 13+. The good news is that you can usually make 2 meals out of a medium/large, but then I just feel like I ate deli meat and bread all day. 3. 90% of their sandwiches can be summed up in like 5 ingredients: Meat, cream cheese, avocado, and cheese. 4. Beach "HUT". This is one elegant ass hut, with like 4 Jumbo sized plasma T.V's, and a freaking personal TV with remote for each table (awesome tho) Despite all these contradictions, My mouth does orgasm when I eat one of their sandwiches. I guess if you combine meat, cream cheese, avocado and bread, you just cant go wrong. read more

The new location is only a couple blocks away from my work so I come here for lunch quite often. Never had a bad experience. Service is always amazing and they're extremely friendly. My usual order is a small hot Surfin' Cow (roast beef, avocado, bacon, cream cheese) and that's pretty bomb. Also tried the Beach Meatball (meatballs, cheese, marinara, onions, Greek peppers) and that's also delish. Great choice if you're craving spaghetti and meatballs but you're sick of pasta. A little bit pricier than other sandwich places but portions are extremely generous. Even the small sandwiches can last a meal and a half or two, depending on how hungry you are. read more

What the HELL, Beach Hut Deli?!? I spend 12 years of my life living/working in Davis, and not until relatively recently do you decide to open up shop in town? If you were in town when I was, I'm sure I would have been eating there several times a week. Thus far I have only eaten there and handful of times and have gotten different sandwiches each time. Each time the sandwiches were frikkin amazing. I got the Malibu last time. Pastrami & melted swiss cheese on garlic bread. Holy hell, that was great! Maybe it's best you didn't have a store in town during my tenure in Davis. I likely would've weighed a lot more than I do now. I wish your location was closer to downtown, but with my current situation of driving through Davis on a relatively regular basis makes it easy to just jump off the freeway to buy another sandwich. Last time I was there, I actually had an internal argument of whether or not I should buy another sandwich to take with me on the road.
