This spot in Old Town has really good food! It's sort of an unassuming bar, could be a dive bar but 20 beers on tap and a pretty great menu. I walked in and immediately was questioned about my ID being legit to which I'm not arguing I do look rather young. That didn't hinder my experience at all, what ultimately made me decide I'll never return was being told I'll be helped shortly to sit for 20 minutes without anyone saying anything. I watched as the bartender, server and line cooks stand in the doorway of the kitchen while I waited to order. I knew what I wanted before I even sat down. We were traveling over from Veneta looking for some seafood in Florence, The Beachcomber is located in a the main drag off of Bay Street, you would never notice its from the main street, as it is nestled in-between many other restaurant's on this road. As you walk in you are greeting by many friendly staff an a lively atmosphere. The Bar/Restaurant was very busy but we were seated quickly and our drinks were served in minutes. It took us a bit to decide on our meal. I tried the Captains Platter, it has beer battered cod, calamari, coconut shrimp with fries and coleslaw. Huge meal with a lot of seafood favorites, each seafood item was good sized, well cooked, I really loved the sweet and spicy dipping sauce, a must ask and the homemade tarter sauce. I had to take the rest home with me I could only eat half of it. I enjoyed my meal with the Manny's Pale Ale. My father in law enjoyed a large burger and fries, his dish was the Jameson whiskey bacon cheeseburger. He also commented on how good his food was. Overall a great experience. Beachcomber is on the strip in Old Town Florence. This pub is very popular among the Harley and muscle car enthusiasts, there are usually several parked out front to admire. The staff are a different breed. Very probably the owners of the Harleys and muscle cars parked out front, but don't let that fool you. Under the bandanas and denim jackets with the sleeves torn off are friendly and welcoming staff. We take a table and are greeted and brought menus. Drinks requests are taken and napkins with tableware is provided. This is a long, narrow environment with the tables along one wall and the bar along the other. There is a pool table in the back where there is another seating area off to the side. We were told there is good chowder to be had here, so we had to give it a try. It turns out there is also a Seafood Chowder along with the standard clam chowder. The seafood chowder was over the top good with an abundance of potato, clam, shrimp and scallops with a dash of paprika and parsley sprinkled over the top. It also came with some thick sliced Texas toast with a creamy melted cheese on it. The clam chowder was very full of potatoes and lots of large clam. It was very mild and light in seasoning. The coconut shrimp was the hit of this adventure! 5 incredibly large shrimp, butterflied like prawns, they were breaded and fried crisply and very meaty. There was also a ramekin with a sweetish green chili dipping sauce that pairs perfectly with the shrimp. This came on a decent portion of a caesar salad with several pieces of thick sliced toasted bread. This dish alone was actually enough for a meal. read more

Been dining at Beachcomber regularly for over a year, they are introducing specials lately that have been impressive. Hubby got pork tacos for the 2nd week in a row. Super delicious and the fresh toppings brought a unique flavor. They actually add daikon for a nice slightly spicy bite. I had the Pacific peach salad which was amazing! Fresh baby greens, avocado, carrots and daikon, and of course peaches. The flavors mixed beautifully for a filling meal, had a margarita with the salad which was a refreshing compliment. The menu includes great burgers as expected but also many other options not always seen in a bar restaurant. I love the club sandwich. They also have interesting and delicious soecials. The bartenders and servers are fun and friendly, we always get treated right. It can get crazy busy in there so please be kind and tip well! It has a great ambience as a locals place but tourists also love it. We found it as tourists and it's one of our favorites as locals. It's a bar so no kids inside, but they do have outdoor tables where minors are allowed. Fun, good food, great cocktails, what more could you ask for!! read more

Good beer selection. Their clam chowder is advertised as "award winning" and it lives up to that billing; very good. The clam strips were just OK, nothing to write home about. Go with the chowder. And if you can, avoid the lunch rush on Sunday at the end of summer. The staff was awesome and working their tail off but the mad push of people in there meant that food was getting out rather slow. Can't blame the staff, just blame me for showing up in the middle of a crazy rush Plenty of seats both inside and outside, so as long as it's sunny you can at least sit with a beer while you wait for your food. Second night was Sondra, it was her birthday, but once again a very authentic person. Must has to do with the fact that they deal with all kinds of personalities. Loved the shuffle board too! The Beachcomber is a hidden gem on the Oregon coast! Up until about 5 years ago we never went here as it was more of a noisy "biker bar ". Fortunately a friend recommended it to me, as I was on a hunt for the best clam chowder around. This place did not disappoint! Even though its ambience is a bit rough, their food is awesome. Definitely the BEST clam chowder on the Oregon coast IMO! And their coconut shrimp are magnificent! They have a huge selection of beers, both local and more. My wife and have brought friends and relatives here many times since, and it's always a great experience! The staff are prompt, courteous, and fun! The ketchup they had was, for us, not good at all. I get its supposed to be better for you but if that was my goal I wouldn't have ordered the tots! It was a very odd taste, marinara sort of and peppery- they didn't carry any other type so we were without- didn't eat them. If your going to order those sides you might want to taste their ketchup first- they have options of coleslaw or salad I think which we would have gone with. The rest of our food was fantastic as well. Portions are hearty, quality of food was Way above what I was expecting, prices weren't bad for the location, and the drinks were tasty and well poured. That wasn't even close to my favorite part. I mean the sportsball playing on easy-to-see-from-any-angle-screens was great, made for a fun atmosphere because the folks watching were happy and into it, the service was fast and efficient, the tables and bathroom were clean, and the chairs were comfortable. But my favorite part? The Most Sassy Waitress EVER. All of the wait staff was upbeat and snarky and I loved them, but ours was the sassiest. Worth every cent. I was pretty broken down after the holidays and just wanted a drink and a snack in a grownup space. We stayed way later than I meant to and my spirits were definitely higher walking out the door. We came in last night for a quick dinner at 6:30. Ordered fish and chips and a chicken sandwich. The food was good but the fries were cold and soggy even though we ordered crispy fries. It took over ONE hour after we ordered to get our food. The service was poor our server was crying behind the bar and not paying attention. We asked for a to go box and the check. The reason for this review. The waitress never charged us for our food only our drinks. Being a former bar owner this disturbs me. Employee giving away food for a big tip. The atmosphere was small home-town and welcoming. The battered and hand dipped onion rings were out of this world delicious. The only negative was our waitress lied to us and said they do not have beer flights. We were disappointed as we wanted to try a variety of different beers they have on tap. The next time we went we had a different waitress and she said they definitely have beer flights. Not a good feeling about the first waitress we had. The waiter was blatantly just extremely rude. Opened up by asking for ids which isn't the issue. They followed by making extremely inconsiderate comments to my partner about their age appearance and ID before even giving us the opportunity to hand them over. Rather then just asking for the id and leaving it at that. She proceeded to state that "She doesn't look over 21 at all!" In a very snarky manor. Mind you not a single person in our party commented or disputed the request, so the comment was completely unnecessary and just said out of the blue. Rather than just politely asking us to leave when we stated one of us didn't have our id on us, she was extremely passive aggressive and rude in her dismissal of us. Not sure what kinda service comes in very accusatory but I will NEVER be visiting again. Not even a chance after that experience. I have been coming to this bar for 40 + years, a local!! I am very aware how the front should run!! But it doesn't anymore, its a free for all!! When I watch my food sit in the window and the door is open!! My server looked at it and walked away to take another order at the bar, it upsets u!! And of course my food was cold and my bloody Mary's wasn't even mixed!! Over a hundred bucks!! I paid for my meals turned to put 3 pennies down for the service she said don't do that, I said as there dropping onto the table you should gave me atleast decent service u didn't even mix my drinks and cold food,she said I was kicked out!! Didn't matter I was leaving seen another local on the public side walk, anyways they also were upset. The one gal heard the server and said its their fault and its not that busy. She came and said u can't stand there,, I said I sure can I pay taxes for this side walk.She tried to argue about that again the other local gal said you need to stop, you didn't do your job and now your being rude because of your actions, this is a public side walk, no permits changes that Check please!!
