My wife and I celebrated a birthday at Beacon! We really enjoyed all of the food we ordered and the atmosphere but we had an issue with our reservation, which was frustrating. When you make a reservation, you have to pick a table or type of table. When we arrived, we were not given our choice or even a table in the dining room. We were seated at a high top in the bar area that doesn't even have dedicated servers, so you have to wait for the bartender to have a break to come check on you. These tables are so small that it was less than ideal for a large seafood boil and appetizers. The bartender was literally some of our stuff on the empty chairs at our high top, which was beyond annoying. With our table issue aside, we loved the food. Everything we ordered was delicious and the portions seemed fair for the price. The quality seemed high and everything was fresh and full of flavor. Overall, we will come back but I wish they'd sort out the reservation situation. I understand they get busy and can't offer other tables but then they shouldn't have us select a table online.

Flight

We escaped one of the rainy, dreary days this week by stepping into Beacon Corner Bar! This was our first time here- my fiancé is a newly converted seafood lover so I feel like we're still catching up on seafood spots! The nautical theme runs deep here- there's really no where you can't look without thinking about the sea. I, personally, loved the giant octopus mural. I got their flight from the flights of flavor campaign, which included three different types of oysters on the half shell, as well as drink pairings. This was my first time having oysters, so shoutout to Flights of Flavor for giving me a good reason to try them! The drinks included with the flight were: a bloody shooter, a Grapefruit Hefeweizen, and a Brut Rosé! We also got the boil experience with snow crab, and a side of mac n cheese. Honestly, my fiancé and I had no idea if there was a technique to getting to the crab meat, so we just got in there (and made a mess but that's expected!) It was such a fun experience, it reminded me of our time on the coast in Maine Overall, we loved Beacon! Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful when ordering, and he was super engaging and fun. 10/10 would go back!

Connecticut style lobster roll with Mac n cheese

We stopped into Grand Rapids for one night, and we were staying nearby while craving some seafood, so Beacon was an easy choice. It was a casual Monday night so the restaurant was fairly quiet which we enjoyed. The host and waiter were very attentive and friendly for the entirety of the meal and didn't push hard on up-selling. The wedge salad and hush puppies as an appetizer were both absolutely stellar and came out about 5 minutes after we ordered them. For our main courses, the trout and the lobster roll were both solid and reasonably priced. We didn't love our cocktails but that was likely more user error than anything. We also ordered dessert to go but haven't tried it as I wrote this out.

Came here specifically for the flights of flavor drink + oyster combo. We love oysters and ended up ordering more after the flight pairing. The service was prompt and our server was friendly. The server let us know about weekly deals and live music events coming up. We plan on coming back to order off the regular menu.

Hot Crab Dip with pita

Finally got to try Beacon Corner Bar with my coworkers the other day! This has been on my list for way too long. I loved the decorations/ theme of this restaurant, it was just enough. As for the food, we started off with the Hot Crab dip. The portion size of the dip compared to the bowl/ pita ratio was a bit disappointing but the flavor was good. I ordered the Lobster Roll Connecticut style and substituted fries with Crispy Corn Wheels and it was delicious. I would definitely come back and try some of the other things on their menu on a payday week

Friendly and inviting spot to chow down on a seafood brunch, lunch, or dinner. Weekend brunch drink specials on mimosas and bloody Marys. I had the lobster Benedict and added sides of American fries and bacon. The Bennie was lighter on hollandaise than I'm used to seeing, and the lobster meat was plentiful. And Beacon used biscuits instead of English muffins. Brunch menu is a la carte. The Bennie comes with just that. You can add your trusty sides like bacon and whatnot, but those cost extra (three strips of bacon is $7). Service is friendly. Popular among locals. Reservations recommended.

After a year of wanting to try the seafood boil, I finally got enough people with an appetite to try it! We ordered every item and was happy about the experience! They give you bibs, gloves and wet naps so you can stay as clean as possible. The amount of food that we got had to come in 2 different serving dishes, and everything was delicious! They do not actually overfill you with "filler items" like potatoes, corn or sausage. However, I'd really prefer if they gave one corn per person to enjoy something other than seafood in the mixture. I'm sure we could have asked for more, but didn't. They also give you various sauces for the boil, that I felt was completely unnecessary, except the butter for the crab legs! My family really enjoyed the experience and I think it was well worth the money and flavor. It did feel a little salty towards the end, but ultimately still enjoyed our meal to celebrate my parents 40th anniversary!

Popcorn coconut shrimp with fries, requested well done $10

First time visit. Strolled the half mile from DeVos Place Saturday afternoon, arriving 3:30pm. Only a few diners. Nice atmosphere. Ordered hard cider and craft beer, both draft. Started with cup of clam chowder, $6. Pleasantly surprised, it was served with a few clams still in shell. Very tasty, next time I will buy a bowl. Had the mussel appetizer, $16, as my main course. The mussels were cooked to perfection. Plenty of wine, cream broth to dip crostini Partner ordered the basket of coconut popcorn shrimp with fries. It was nice that the popcorn shrimp weren't too small. French fries were different, wide and flat, really good. Great price $10. Next time I'm going to try the clam boil.

Came here to try their BOGO oyster deal. Drinks were well balanced, refreshing, and a multitude of options. This time around we only tried the oysters, so I can only speak on that. We got 72 oysters, and all of them were shucked perfectly. A variety of different selections from the East and west coast, my favorite being the more meatier ones. Definitely inquire with your server as my waitress was very knowledgeable on the different ones they had and why someone would like that particular one. Everything was delicious and quick, my only qualm is it isn't truly BOGO, as they only make the cheapest oysters you get free. So if you go for this deal, make sure you're aware of that, as we were surprised at the end when our bill had an extra $60 to it as it wasn't explained to us better. We were told, "buy any oyster, get another free." Other than that, great spot downtown to catch up with friends.

Lobster Roll

We had wanted to try Beacon Corner Bar since it arrived on the scene and finally made it there, meeting friends for dinner on a cold, blustery night. Needless to say, we pretty much had the place to ourselves and enjoyed a relaxing dinner with good service. Born and raised on Long Island and growing up constantly dining on fresh-caught fish and shellfish, my husband and I were excited to see if Beacon Corner Bar was going to feel like going home. We started with the hot crab dip and fried calamari appetizers to share. The calamari was delicious, crisp, and light. The crab dip was a bit bland and we found the portion sizes to be a bit small for four of us to share. Full disclosure: I think we arrived hungry. For dinner, we had to have a lobster roll (Connecticut style) because that was truly the reason we chose the spot. My husband and I shared a lobster roll and a Smashburger, both coming with their unique version of thin-sliced and heavily seasoned fries. The lobster roll was good, not great. The lobster meat was fresh, a bit bland, and what is historically a slightly sweet split-top sturdy roll, was basically a hot dog bun - no sweetness, and it did not hold together when dipped in drawn butter. Truthfully, for $30 it was small and we expected more. On a positive note, the Smashburger (locally ground chuck and brisket blend, gouda cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion jam, & mayo on a brioche bun) was delicious.

Restaurant week was such a great way for us to get out and try a new to us restaurant! Beacon Corner Bar had a great deal: three courses for $30. I made a reservation on OpenTable and we were seated right away when we arrived. Our server was Rese and she was great - she told us about their weekly specials including BOGO oysters and live jazz on Thursdays. We ended up arriving for dinner during happy hour, so Nate got a discounted beer. I went with the restaurant week deal with the intention of sharing, and Nate got the lobster roll at the recommendation of our server. We started with an order of the Brussels sprout chips and added an order of the hush puppies. I am not usually a big hush puppy fan, but these were moist, nicely seasoned, and not overly onion-y. The Old Bay-cayenne honey was a unique twist that gave it a savory element that I enjoyed. These came five to an order. The Brussels sprout chips were delicious! Super crispy and seasoned well, with some salty capers and a touch of vinegar. They were a little awkward to eat with a fork. The portion size was great. For my main, I got the walleye basket, which wasn't listed on the Restaurant week menu, but I saw it on the RW website. The fries were unique and really tasty - they were flat slices with skin on. The walleye pieces were nicely sized and perfectly cooked. I really liked the cornmeal coating which made the fish crispy on the outside. I had some of the lobster roll, which was incredible. I was worried it wouldn't be very big for the cost, but it was a generous amount of tender lobster, served with a lot of melted butter. It was decadent and delicious, and I would definitely get that again! Dessert was a brookie - brownie/cookie served in a skillet. It was just okay, but I liked everything else so much I didn't care about dessert. Overall we had a great experience and I'm looking forward to going back for more happy hour snacks and those BOGO oysters.

Seafood boil

Our server rese was the highlight of our night! She was the sweetest kindness person ever! We ordered the boil with shrimp sausage and mussels. I mentioned that a review said there were not enough potatoes. Of course there were 3 small potatoes. Come on management potatoes are cheap!! The prices are very reasonable. Ambience is great! Please listen to the customers

This is a really great place if you are craving some seafood and also if your partner doesn't like seafood. They have good options for both. I love the scallop linguine and corn wheels. My husband said their burger was really very good. Their stuffed clam was AMAZING. The staff is always friendly. It's not always as fast of service as I'm used to but they still do a good job. I have never had an issue getting a seat here. They have bar and table seating. It's a fun nautical theme that is nice and clean. Their restrooms are located outside the restaurant and you have to go down the hall to a coded room.

I order the bread, it was stale on the sides and crust but a day ago this would have been a well made foccacia. The whipped Gorgonzola was great. The octopus came next, it had a nice balance of acid, was well seasoned, but some octopus was very overcooked and rubbery. The gnocchi was soft and pillowy with great brown butter notes, however the guanciale was burnt to a crisp and affected the dish. The sauce and tapenade were great. Here's where they shined, the agnolotti - perfectly cooked pasta, nice acid, goat cheese and pea notes. The fried chips provided a really nice contrast to the pasta. The ramp pesto is delicious.
