After all my visits to Boston, I finally made it to Trident Booksellers & Café. Since the monsoon-like rains of the previous day ended, this was a perfect sunny day to take a short walk to Newbury Street. The ordering and payment all go through the Toast app, accessible with the menu included on the QR codes on each numbered table. EASY! And DELICIOUS. Loved the food (i got the eggs Benedict) but the eggs were a little bit raw. Otherwise it was fine! We came in here unplanned. It was 8:10am and we were walking around Newbury. Not many stores were open and we wanted a small bite to eat. And to escape the cold. We walked by, not realizing that Trident was open. Then we saw a woman seated at the table by the window sipping her coffee! So we counted out lucky stars and walked right in! My husband used to come a lot to Trident while he was studying in Boston. So he was thrilled the place still exists, it's doing well, thriving! I ended up visiting Trident Booksellers & Cafe two days in a row, and that alone should tell you how much I enjoyed it. The first visit was simply to look for postcards after it was recommended by a local acquaintance and featured in my hotel's staff picks. Not only did they have postcards, but they also sold stamps, books, gifts, and all sorts of fun trinkets. Stopped in for brunch with 2 friends on a Saturday morning! The food was delicious and service was quick and efficient. We did have a reservation as it was very busy inside the book store and the cafe as well. They offer outdoor dining as well but we ate inside. Also, for being in a beautiful Boston-iconic location right on Newbury St, it's surprisingly not too expensive considering how large the portions are! My wife took one bite of breakfast and declared she'd come here every day if we lived nearby. That's love--and also a pretty transparent attempt to extend this vacation. The vibe is still perfect: bookish, cozy, and buzzing in all the right ways. The staff was friendly, fast, and clearly running a tight ship. And Manager Michael? Total pro. Helpful, kind, and allegedly in possession of the sacred vegan cashew chili recipe. (Michael, if you're reading this... let's talk.) Bottom line: Trident still rules, and now it feeds you even better while you pretend you're just browsing for a new Murakami. I used to work at Trident back in my college days, and it was always a special place--great vibes, cozy bookshop, and solid food that kept us all happily fed between classes and shifts. Now, years later, I brought my family back while visiting Boston, and wow... the place has only gotten better. We came for breakfast and every dish was outstanding. My wife even said she'd come here every day if we lived nearby--which, coming from her, is high praise and a not-so-subtle hint to move. The French toast was massive, but there wasn't nearly enough filling, making for an unbalanced, boring sandwich. The everything bagel with cream cheese was actually the best part of the meal, which says a lot considering it was just a basic bagel. On the bright side, the cappuccino was solid, and they had a Valentine's Day special Bee Mine latte that was really good. One big downside was the seating--it's way too crammed together, making for an uncomfortable dining experience. We made reservations because we heard how busy it can get with shoppers, but were probably early enough that we missed a lot of that foot traffic (9:30). Ordering is through a table QR code, and the food came out pretty quickly. The quiche was good, but I would have preferred a slice of a bigger quiche instead of my own mini quiche. I think the mini quiches cook a little differently, and this one was maybe a little over cooked (or maybe it was because that there was so much crust it felt that way). The fresh fruit was delicious! Trident had a good selection of current bestsellers and popular reads, with other good finds mixed in. I found a book that I've been wanting to read that I haven't been able to get at my local library. It also had lots of stickers, bookmarks, journals and other book-themed items. Such an adorable bookstore that is also surprisingly big! I used to go here when I went to college and loved returning today! It has gotten so much bigger-especially the eating area. Trident has been around for a long time and is the go-to place for so many like students and young professionals looking for a good book and delicious uncomplicated meal. It's located on Newbury St closer to the Mass Ave end. One thing to note on the food side is that food is ordered via QR code at your seat or table and brought to you. I still tip big because these servers are working so hard! I sat at the counter top, as it was slammed that night but you wouldn't know it by the service. I had the grilled cheese and added everything you could add. Avo, bacon, turkey - yum! So scrumptious. Hearty and belly warming on a chilly day or night. What immediately stood out to me was the bread. Lightly sweet and perfectly toasted. Served with fries. I also got an Americano and a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. About one year ago my partner and I attempted to attend Friday night trivia. After waiting in line for an hour, we were turned away because they were at capacity. If I were a pessimist, this incident could have turned me off of Trident forever. Instead I decided that their trivia must be really good. We successfully joined this week. My partner arrived around 5:15 to get in line. We were seated shortly after 5:30. That means we had an hour and a half before trivia even started! I love the set up of this bookstore and they have some pretty cool events. Silent book club? That sounds right up my alley (assuming I don't have to talk to strangers). Anyway, we ordered food. He had Mac and cheese with ham and peas and this was delightful. I had the trident bowl. It felt too healthy. It needed some sort of sauce or dressing. We also had beer. Love that they serve pitchers. The trivia was fun. It is original trivia and not by a pub trivia brand so that is fun. They had a lot of multiple choice which is less fun. I didn't love some of the categories but that is all personal taste and the same can be said when they ask about opera or the Bible on Jeopardy. The host was great. I had a nice night. I feel I am at a point in my life where I detest waiting in line for anything. I'd come back for trivia if there were reservations or something. Right in the heart of Newbury Street has an amazing inventory of every kind of book super helpful staff. No one rushed us from the table. No one bothered us whenever we were ready. They came over right away. We paid right at the table on a machine that took the credit card. I don't even know what they're called, but I made it super convenient I also had a grilled muffin. I didn't take a picture because I scarfed it so quick, but it was really good. They make a fresh muffin of the day every time Kenny loved the salad. It was really good even as latte. I had green tea as well not a latte but just green tea was delicious. Tammy loved their sandwich. She said it was really good. She didn't like that. It was grilled and butter, but that's cause she's a healthy food that didn't take away from the actual taste of it, but the chips were good. They weren't too salty. I don't know if they make them or not. I would doubt it, but they were really good. What a wonderful gem of a place and a great location, we stayed at the citizenM hotel in the back bay and this book store was only a 3 minute walk from that. Throughout the book store you can browse and pick up books as you see them, i loved the diner style counter top and it was nice to skim the books i grabbed while waiting for my food. This space features 2 floors of books and various cool items like greeting cards, reader essentials, and some unique souvenirs. The only con i would say is that there is a LOT of books stacked into a tiny space and it makes looking for specific titles a little difficult if you're shy (like me) about asking for help. I had a really great experience trying out this cafe, it is so cute! I've been here before to browse the books, but this was my first time dining here. I was feeling hungry for a snack, and was experiencing my midday crash, so I went for an atomic Cold Brew with a breakfast sandwich. Both items were delicious! The vibes in here are awesome as well. Great for a quick pick me up. I was able to get some work done while munching on my food. The Cold Brew was pretty good-- I'm more of a cappuccino gal, but this was great. They served it to me black, which was actually quite enjoyable, but I added some cream after a few sips just because I like it better. They gave me 2 creams and 2 sugars which was plentiful. It gave me the energy boost I needed for the rest of the day, which was great. As for my food, I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was absolutely delicious! It came on an English muffin, with an over-hard egg, cheddar cheese, and bacon. It was fantastic. I am sure their other items on the menu are great as well. I will be back to confirm that! read more

The best way I can describe the ambience is this: A traditional diner with an eclectic, clean feel! Their food offerings range from the stereotypical American diner food to fancier brunch type. I got the seasonal crepe, which included butternut squash and mushrooms, and it was delicious! My husband enjoyed his food as well. The food was standout for us. However, this cafe was a bit lackluster in the coffee department. The black coffee was burnt tasting, perhaps a nostalgic nod to the diner vibes, and my husbands cappuccino was also not something we would get again. All ordering and payment take place through a QR code that is linked to your table, so you have very little face to face with any server. They brought waters at the beginning of our meal, and the only other times we saw them were for the coffee and food delivery. This was a different experience, but I didn't have any major qualms with this setup! A fun aspect to this place was that it was also in a bookstore! Fun to walk around and browse.
