The good: The technician arrived on time, fixed the ceiling light wiring problem and installed a bathroom fan I bought. The bad: Super expensive. and deceptive quote. The initial quote was in the $300 range, but I paid over $700 in the end for the service mentioned above. I was told the initial quote didn't include cutting the ceiling to install the bathroom fan. Nonetheless, the work took less than 1 hour. read more

I do not recommend Beacon Electrical for the following reasons: I had an external dusk to dawn lamp post that was not working. I was referred by Home Advisor. I have had success in previous referrals from Home Advisor and spoke to the reception at Beacon and scheduled an appointment. During the scheduling, the reception told me that there would be a $59 home visit payment, that would be deducted from the cost of the repair. I agreed to this, as this is standard for pretty much all of the repair people that come to your house. When the repairman arrived, we discussed the issue, and I gave him the background on the issue. At that point, he told me that for him to go any further with a diagnostic, he would need to charge me an additional $225 for him to be able to tell me what was wrong, and to fix it. At that point, I was wondering what the $59 home visit was for. Wanting my lamp working, I authorized him to hook his devise to the lamp post. Once complete, he said that the wiring was working going back to the house, and that it was probably the sensor, and he would go back to his truck and come back with estimates. I then asked him to hook the wiring directly to the lamp head to see if that worked. Fortunately, the lamp head worked. Otherwise, had I not spoken up, he would have included a new lamp head in his estimate. When he returned from his truck, he had 4 different charges. The first one was for $225, and that was for him to do nothing. The second one was for $440 and was for him to replace the sensor and nothing more. The third was for around $600+ and it was for him to replace the sensor and the GFI in the garage (nothing wrong with the GFI). The fourth was for $800+ and was for him to replace the sensor, the GFI in the garage and the exterior electrical outlets. Again, not sure why the GFI and the exterior electrical outlets were included, because they are operational, and he did not even look at them during his time at my house. I chose the $440 option to have the sensor replaced and to make the lamp post operational, as it was the reason that I asked them to come to my house. The repairman spent a total of about 40 minutes at my house. I later called the Beacon Electrical and told them that I had an issue with the initial quote of $59 which later became $225 when the repairman came. I explained the above to the reception and was promised that the Supervisor would call me. It has been 5 days, and still no phone call from the Supervisor. Yes, they fixed the sensor. However, I object to how I was told $59 for the house call and estimate, however, when the repairman came, the troubleshooting ballooned to $225. I believe that $440 is way too much for replacing a sensor on my lamp post. I had previously replaced the lamp post with a new pole several years ago, but apparently the sensor that came with it was defective. read more

This is the second time I've used Beacon electrical. First time was for a replacement of my circuit breaker following a short and small electrical fire. It was covered by my insurance. While talking to the electrician, I mentioned that several homes in my neighborhood had been hit by lightning strikes and he installed a whole-house surge protector for me. Cannot remember name of first electrician but he was wonderful and explained everything clearly. This time around, I was installing a new light and ceiling fan for a bathroom and replacing the switches and outlets, which had to be upgraded to a GFI so it was to code. I also needed a new circuit for a heater and my computers, a new kitchen light and had a few bad switches and outlets in the house. He mentioned that they had a special on whole house outlet and switch replacements which I happily took him up on. My electrician this time was Luis. He was just as wonderful to deal with as my previous electrician. Can't say enough praise for his work. Also kudos to Courtney, the dispatcher. She was cheerful and kept me apprised as to when Luis would arrive and did followups to make sure that I was satisfied. read more

We had them come out to look at an electrical problem. The technician mucked around and admitted that he didn't know if he fixed the problem since this wasn't his area of expertise. Then hidden somewhere in the signature for service was a sign up for some membership that I was not made aware of. When I received a credit card charge for the "subscription" I was told I can't cancel it unless I've been in the program for six month. A bit of a scam I think. This has to be the most impressive and professional electrical services company I have ever had the pleasure of working with. From initial contact via email/website, verbal communication with Katie and our outstanding technician Craig it was hands down an amazing experience. We had a motion flood light and front yard vanity lights installed and it was to perfection. During the initial visit, Craig gave us 5 options complete with estimates that were crystal clear. No indication on up-selling, Craig's recommendations were on the spot with the 'wants' and 'needs' addressed to move forward. These folks are serious about customer service and professionalism and it shows. It is not surprising that they have been in business for this long. I will use them in the near future when this COVID silliness has run its course for our up and coming larger projects. Very negative experience. I came home Wednesday after a big storm and found water in my light fixture. This is an emergency, because water plus electricity can cause an electrical fire. I called Beacon and they scheduled me for Friday. They said they could work around time restrictions, so I asked for a morning appointment, although they then said they scheduled for the day and couldn't guarantee a specific appointment time. My Dad was going to meet them while I was at work. Friday morning a technician showed up, looked at my water heater and pipes under my sink and gave a quote for a new hot water heater. The hot water heater is fine, by the way. My dad said that I had asked for an electrician, and they said they had would send an electrician out later that day. I hear nothing by 1 pm. I called on my lunch break to confirm they were sending an electrician. They said they were, and that I was top priority. They then called me at 5 in the afternoon before a holiday weekend and said they weren't able to send someone after all, but that they could send someone Tuesday or Wednesday, with a "guaranteed arrival time between 8 and 10." However, I would also be working then and didn't have anyone to meet them. I said I was upset that they had made a mistake and sent the wrong technician, told me they were sending the correct technician, and then didn't send someone. And that I now I had to deal with 4 more days of no overhead lights in my kitchen, laundry room, hall or bedroom. They said perhaps when I said "water" the dispatcher just assumed she should send a plumber. I said I had clearly asked for an electrician, and I said that it was an emergency because water in the outlet can cause a fire. They said they would have a service manager call me. The service manager, Sam, called and left a message apologizing for the "scheduling confusion," and saying he heard I had some "electrical questions." Argh!!! Here's what I wish they had done: 1. Sent an electrician like I asked for 2. Actually apologized instead of suggesting it was my fault because I had talked about water in the outlet, and that of course because I said water, the dispatcher sent a plumber 3. Sent an electrician that day 4. Notified me earlier than 3 pm on a Friday if they couldn't get someone that day, so I could find someone else. Lots of electricians are closed on the weekends. 5. Suggested other companies I could call when they called me to tell me they couldn't get to me. All of the other companies I called who were booked gave me other suggestions--turns out 4 Service Pros has a 24 hour emergency service and they came and did an excellent job. Three years ago Beacon did some electrical work in our home and additionally sold and installed two ten year smoke detectors. The first one gave it's end of life warning a few months ago, and the second one failed at 4 am this morning. Overpriced and didn't even last! In addition, they went off about 6 months ago, so I called the fire station and they sent out a truck. There was no smoke or carbon monoxide detected. Fireman said these units are notorious for false alarms! Stay away from these so called ten year smoke alarms they sell! read more

I had an appointment scheduled for Thursday the 21st between 3 and 5 Pm to troubleshoot a fixture in my house. I took time off from work to make it home in time to meet the electrician, but found they had left me a message at 2 o'clock that they weren't coming and wouldn't reschedule for any sooner than Monday. I had specifically set this time so that visiting family wouldn't be staying in the dark all weekend, and took time off from work to meet that mutual commitment. I spoke to a supervisor named Bob who offered no alternatives and was largely unapologetic for his lack of planning and poor customer service. I strongly recommend using literally any other electrical company than Beacon as they treat their customers, and their time, with no respect. I wish I could leave less than one star to express how little this company deserves your business. read more

The quote we received from Beacon for installing a charging cable for an electric car was 3-4X the next nearest estimate....and that's not even the worst of the experience. Kevin, who gave the estimate, said he'd have to cut a trough of drywall out of our basement ceiling to snake the cables to the garage. When he finished looking over the situation, he went out to his truck to calculate the estimate and when he came in, I asked him to give it to my adult son. Kevin said he had to speak to me directly. I asked him what the number was. He refused to give it to me until he "went through the slide deck." I told him that was unnecessary but oh boy, it was for him. He read me every word on every slide and THEN gave me the exorbitant estimate. When I told him flat out no, he asked how low I would go. He said he absolutely couldn't go lower than $7500 because the job would require 2 technicians for 3 days. Yup, that was his number. Well, the story ends with us hiring a different company who sent two technicians and finished in under 1 day - with ZERO drywall cuts. If you want high quality work at a fair price, go elsewhere. read more

I called this company bc i thought i needed an electrician. We had a high-pitched noise in the bathroom that seemed to come from the ceiling. It turns out it was something in the toilet. But it only took the guys from beacon home services 15 minutes to figure that out and they charged me $430 dollars. They did not fix anything just said it was not electrical and was coming from the toilet. Yet they charged me way more than any orher electrician ever has and did not actual work. read more

The less stellar Yelp reviews seem to be more aligned with their quality and integrity. We needed an attic fan for our house. Nelson Guzman came to our house and he gave us a quote of $2,800 to install two attic fans. I have done my research and I know we only needed one since our attic footprint is less than 1,400 square feet. Yet he recommended two 1,500 scfm attic fans! Did I say $2,800? That's just crazy. The closest quote from other companies was less than $1,000. I am not sure how other reviewers are giving Beacon Electric five stars. When I looked, most Google reviewers only have one review, only for Beacon Electric. Something fishy, eh? read more

We had Beacon Home Service come out to replace the main electrical panel. By the time it was done, they were so reliable and good at what they do we had them replace a sump pump, install several recessed lights, a few ceiling fans, and even do some plumbing. They provided multiple options for each project so it wasn't like we were getting stuck with the most expensive option. We could decide what we wanted done now and what we would address down the road. They communicate very well about the work they're doing and when they'll be there each day. They were also very respectful of our home and family. In the era of COVID I appreciate their professionalism. They weren't the cheapest option but they were very reliable and good at what they did. I would recommend Beacon to any of my friends or family. read more

This is a difficult review to write. Up until this week I would have given Beacon a "5" on all categories. But today I can't be so positive, I have requested them for four services at this time; 3 plumbing and 1 electrical. Here's a summary of each service: 1. Plumbing: Service a well water system. Our prior well water company had gone out of business. Beacon was responsive and dealt with an unfamiliar system pretty well. They replaced needed consumables and determined how to adjust the water to the right pH and hardness. Reasonably priced, but they did overestimate supplies (but they left excess with me so presumably the next time it will be cheaper). Good first experience, "B+" rating. 2. Plumbing: Repair broken shower control, replace Shower head, and track down intermittent leak from said shower. Super responsive. The tech did a lot of trouble shooting and determined that the overflow was mis-adjusted and that the gasket on the overflow was decayed and needed replacement. All work done at reasonable price and very thankful for the Tech's experience. "A" Rating, no further leaks! 3. Electrical: Run a new circuit for a portable hot tub to two locations. Disclaimer: I am an electrical engineer who has dealt with homeowner electrical improvements in the past. This tech worked with me on the design of the new circuit, cautioned me on the things I needed to do outside of Beacon's service (aka dig a trench for the underground line) and came out to support the county inspection. When the inspector required changes, the Tech worked with me to implement them with minimal cost increase. A++/ 100 % rating. 4. Replace a failed instahot faucet. The tech could not seem to find a replacement part at a reasonable price. He gave me a quote for $933. I contacted Instahot (aka insinkerator), and they directed me to a $350 replacement part on Amazon and provided a video for homeowner replacement. When I declined the service the Tech called and said that it was not just the cost of the hardware but his time. I pointed out that I wasn't willing to pay $587 labor for a straightforward 30 minute in and out replacement. So an "F" on this service, which I declined. read more

I had a simple electrical repair to a residential home kitchen that was complicated by the fact that two inhabitants of the home are high risk for Covid. I took the occasion of their brief absence to get the repair done. Beacon was responsive and also accommodating to get me on the schedule to take advantage of the brief window of time to complete the job. Will and Wes arrive exactly when they were scheduled and I received a call and a text preceding their arrival. They wore masks the entire time they were in the home along with shoe coverings. As many other reviews note, they gave me several options for how they could make the repair and corresponding cost estimates - all were in reasonably ranges for the work being proposed. I chose the lowest cost and simplest repair. No haggling. No negotiation. They accomplished the work quickly and were courteous and professional throughout. If there's a way to save money, I'm on it. I try to fix household problems myself, however, oftentimes I end up spending more than if I had hired a professional in the first place! That was the case with my kitchen light. I was able to replace the ballast however, I managed to pull the fixture out of the ceiling as I removed the frame around the light. This is where I drew the line and decided to call for help. I found Beacon Electrical Services on Yelp. I contacted them on line on Thursday afternoon and they arrived on Friday morning. There were excellent communications between the service tech (Mike Beaumier) and the dispatching office (Heidi). Heidi was in contact with Mike constantly and provided me with timely updates, and Mike called me as he was leaving his last job. That alone, stands above any other repair service I've dealt with. That was the First Star. Mike was prompt and arrived at the promised time. He was considerate, courteous, knowledgeable and efficient. I appreciated Mike's thoughtfulness when he slipped coverings over his shoes before entering my house, even though the ground was dry outside. That warranted the Second Star. When he arrived we discussed my immediate problem with the kitchen light, and then he offered to perform a free-of-charge inspection of all the electrical connections and outlets, which I gladly agreed to. As we walked through each room of the house, he brought attention to anything that was out of code. Thankfully there were only a couple of those items! None-the-less, after the inspection was completed, we reviewed the list of recommended fixes. He took a few minutes to prepare several options for my consideration. After I prioritized the list, he began the work. He (properly) re-installed the kitchen light and made sure it was securely fastened to the ceiling, something that had not been done correctly using the DIY method!! Afterwards he remedied one of the out-of-code items by bonding the gas piping to the main ground panel. That was the Third Star. I love those electronic tablets they use! Everything was neat and orderly - no stack of papers to file away; no hunting for a pen, because you could sign with your fingernail! He emailed copies of all the prepared options and prices, as well as my receipt. It was good to have a list of things that should be looked at in the future. That was the Fourth Star. I thought their prices were fair. Even though the service fee is waived if work is performed, their charge of $39 (if no work is performed) is considerably less than similar services. That was the Fifth Star. I am very pleased with the work performed and by the attitude and professionalism of the staff of Beacon Electrical Services. I will definitely plan to use them again for future electrical work! read more

Excellent scheduling and communication. Zach was well trained and did great job in explaining the work. He was thorough and efficient and gave a good presentation of options and Beacon's pricing. The only reason I refrained from giving 5 stars is Beacon's price: $605 for replacing outdoor receptacle, inspecting double tap on circuit breaker (found to comply with code, no work required), and tightening ceiling light fixture, less than 2 hour labor. I accepted this price because (1) time was of the essence to sell my rental townhouse and (2) I am able to tax deduct the expense from my taxable income. For future work on my residence, I will be using another company to compare pricing. read more

My experience with Beacon Electrical Services was a total disappointment! I sent the business e-mails to get specific and accurate information about the business requirements and fees on what they charge and cost of their repair service for fixing or replacing electrical outlets. As a result of my question about how much do Beacon Electrical Services charge by hourly rate, the e-mail reply from the business stated: "We do not have hourly rates." Well, I was given some misinformation. This was totally wrong, because the technician that came by stated otherwise, and he stated the business charge by the hour rather than a flat rate! As a result, I refused to use Beacon Electrical Services, because the hourly rate the technician quoted was too expensive! However, I paid the service fee for the estimate. If I would have been given the correct information from Beacon Electrical Services' front office, I would have gone with another business, which quoted a flat fixed rate that was cheaper and affordable! As a result, of the misinformation from Beacon Electrical Services, I had to start all over looking for another electrician, which is going into two weeks without outlets electricity in my basement. Right now, I have a freeze full of food and refrigerator with food that is at risk of total spoilage! I will never use or call Beacon Electrical Services again, because their front office staff is completely incompetent and unqualified! If I could rate them with a ZERO I would. UGH! read more

I called Beacon Electric based on the positive reviews. The scheduling process was easy and they confirmed date and time on multiple occasions coming up to the actual appointment date. I took off work as it's a 4 hour window. On the day of the appointment I received two calls from Beacon, first call to say window was an hour and half later than planned and second call was to reschedule for four days later. I expressed my frustration on scheduling and they "miraculously" found someone to come to the house. While electrician was great they quoted astronomical prices and their sales tactics are aggressive. It's almost like they know once they are at your house you will cave and agree to pricing. So I caved because I needed the work done before guests were coming that weekend. Electrician did great work and sold me on a whole home surge protector based on the 10 year warranty and 50k insurance coverage. I opened the documentation after he left and it was a 5 year warranty and 10k coverage. WTH. Complete sales scam. I would not recommend using them because they are over priced, aggressive up selling and poor time management. read more

I got a courtesy call the day before to confirm my appointment, and let me know what time the electricians were supposed to arrive. They came promptly at the time that they were meant to come. At first, the basement was supposed to get six recessed lights, but the electrician Steven said that was a bit much and recommended four. I was happy about that because it showed how honest he was. I told them that I wanted the outlets checked in the bathroom, and they did that as well. When I got back, I didn't recognize the place. The basement was bright, and the recessed lights were very nice. They only made two holes, which I was happy about. The kitchen impressed me even more. They used put recessed lights on the holes left over from the hideous light fixtures that we took down before they arrived, so there was minimal damage the ceiling. Overall, I was very impressed. They did an amazing job, and honest on top of that. Definitely would recommend them. read more

I found Beacon on Yelp and enjoyed the positive reviews. Lloyd Ferguson installed a meter collar and whole house surge protector for me on 11/24/15. He was in and out in under 2 hours, very professional, clean, and provided a thorough explanation of the services performed. He went above and beyond by identifying and repairing a GFCI problem in the kitchen, as well as tightening up several loose wires entering the home. I recommend anyone in the area have a meter collar to provide easy to use generator power during an outage. Much easier than a transfer switch which is what I was originally asking them to install. read more
