Excellent espresso drinks made by lovely coffee mixologists. The drinks are made by the passionate about coffee Maddie. She can describe every flavor and note that you will experience with each type of coffee. My husband and I went in and gave her examples of what we like and she made us some delicious options. Their French pastries were also delightful. I can't wait until we return to this part of town so we may enjoy another experience here. read more

This is an adorable coffee shop! I totally wish the space was bigger; it's a very nice shop, but it's right on Waialae, and there is very little seating outside the shop. However, I went with my parents and we had a lovely time. The barista was very friendly and helpful, and the espresso was excellent! The only thing that I'd say may need some improvement was the menu. Granted, the space is vey small, so only a certain amount of food prep is possible, but I had been hoping for a greater variety of baked goods. That said, the banana bread was good! After hearing all the buzz about this place my friend and I made a trip to this new coffee place in Kaimuki. I tried the shaken up latte with lavender and the canele. The owner is friendly and welcoming, the decor is charming, and the coffee is sourced from increasingly popular roasters, such as Intelligentsia and Sightglass. This perfect combination makes Bean About Town worthy of the space formerly home to The Curb. If you're looking for coffee and a tiny break from the day, then this spot is for you. One of the best parts of this cafe is the outside seating: a cozy nook tucked behind a rarely trafficked staircase. Noise from the street is not bothersome, save for the occasional motorcycle or siren. The area is better suited for a coffee date, reading, and journaling than for a 2+ hour study or work session. Latte: I've been satisfied with this drink across several visits. The last time it was made by someone else and had a thicker layer of foam on the top. In itself this isn't a bad thing but there could be greater consistency between workers. Long black: It was more like espresso-flavored water than coffee. Hopefully this was a mistake or the espresso-water ratio needs to be adjusted. After suffering this disappointment, my partner asked for espresso to be added. She was charged not for an extra shot but a stand-alone espresso, which was puzzling... Canelé: Mostly delicious but slightly overdone in some areas, leaving a burnt taste on the tongue. I am rooting for Bean About Town and hope it does well. read more

Found this place by accident since I was on a coffee run and looking for Curb. Since we were going to be cleaning and organizing at work I asked owner for strong coffee. He recommended the beans and I aske for pour over. I got my friend a latte with syrup. Also bought this pastry and all I heard was " moch, creme brûlée" so got three. Wasn't really expecting anything different since Kaimuki has a bunch of coffee shops and most are ok. Well- was I pleasantly surprised! Best coffee I've had in a long time! For strong coffee wasn't bitter or burnt tasting like Starbucks type coffee just very smooth. Whoa but did it pack a caffeine punch - in a good way! This is a really cute cafe! The interior has limited seating but it is decorated with a vintage typewriter. The canele was nice and buttery. My daughter enjoyed her smoothie, too. This place is my go to neighborhood coffee joint. I found a coupon in the mail and it was motivation to go try it. I've been stopping in every weekend since. I love that this place is so dog friendly, I always bring my pooches with and its nice to sit and chat with staff or the other people who stop in. It really has an old neighborhood vibe but in a modern setting. I love the croque monsier by the way! Delicious ham and cheese with little pickles! The canneles are yummy too. I'm giving 4 stars because sometimes the drinks can be inconsistent. I like a latte/cappuccino with mac nut milk and it can be watery depending on who makes it. What a gem!! Tucked away in an adorable nook, I would have missed it if not for the sidewalk sign. Thank goodness I stumbled in. The super nice owner was still counting in his drawer and was kind enough to let me wait while he finished preparing to open. After getting on yelp to check in I saw that I was a full 30 min early as he doesn't open until 7am. Now that's what I call customer service. He made me the most amazing matcha smoothie I've had for $5. Almond milk, almond butter, banana, spinach, honey, and matcha. All for only$5!!! That's an unreal price point. Feeling that afternoon lag, I decided to make a pit stop here to get some fuel to get recharged. The place is easy to miss as it is a small cafe and kind of tucked away. The friendly barista (sorry, didn't get her name) was very knowledgeable about the beans used and sold, and provided me with several recommendations. I ordered a small latte and a canele to go. The canele was pretty good but the latte... oh my god... It was one of the best lattes I've had in a really long time. It was a perfect balance between the rich espresso and frothy milk, leaving a dark caramelly aftertaste in my mouth. Can't wait to return for more. read more

Met Olivier... yes his French accent gives this place some serious cred :-) but the coffee was excellent and the little puffy sweet pastries were delicious. Bean about Town and the previous cafe, The Kurb are perfect examples of the kind of diverse richness that makes Kaimuki the next Ballard... well hopefully and probably never overrun by the wealthy tech elite, but what the old patina of favorites like Okada Okazu to Bean about Town and other new businesses are what makes Kaimuki super cool. Handful of excellent coffees from around the world which the owner roasts in his store in a custom made roaster designed and built his friend in Tel Aviv.
