Making our way to the roastery as we're heading to Diamond Head. They opened early in the day but closed by noon. Ordering done through the small window on the corner but they did have spaces to enjoy your coffee right at the venue as well if you opted to. It was not overly busy but they did take awhile to get the orders ready. Prolly understandable given the server was the one accepting orders and also acting barista. One of my favorite places for their macadamia nut lattes!! They are an order and go spot near Rainbow Drive Inn on Kapahulu. When you order you can see the coffee roasters. It's actually a very spacious space inside. The two times I've gone, it's usually one person working the register and making the drinks so it can just be a little slow since they take your order then make your order before taking the order of the next person. Kai Coffee is a really solid spot to visit for local coffee. Looks like they roast their beans on site. Americano wasn't on the menu but upon request, they're able to whip it up for me. Their bean taste was really smooth and rich. It was an enjoyable cup of joe. Açaí bowl was tasty--base was smooth and the pile of fruit was presented nicely. Bowl was surely inviting to eat. I stopped by the Kai Coffee Roastery to get a caffeine fix, and I'm glad that I did - this walk-up window offers espresso, coffee, some eats (scones, banana bread, chocolate chip cookies, etc.), and fresh-roasted whole beans that you can purchase. You know when your latte is a certain color and you just know that it's gna be spectacular? Kai coffee consistently did that every time for us! This coffee shop is our favorite on the island! Sometimes the milk to espresso ratio ends up being too milky when you order a large, but the worker told me they add 3 espresso shots for the large and it is still perfect!! We always ordered the Kai latte, and it is not too sweet. Island vintage is good, but when you want a less sweeter coffee, Kai coffee is the way to go :) *Def go to this location instead (perf to grab n go), as it's less crowded. These are literally at every corner so if you want coffee near by, this is it. Coffee is fine depending on what you order. We tried a few drinks and are all light in coffee flavor. Very milky but we normally have espresso over ice and prefer a stronger brew so we can't say everyone would feel the same. Service is hit or miss depending on location. There seems to be a variety of locations in Waikiki that close late, as location closes at 1pm and doesn't seem to let people inside due to the fact that it's a small roastery. So when I saw that they popped up in Kapahulu, I was stoked! This is a "to go" coffee shop only. They're located off of Herbert St. and there's very little street parking available. I arrived shortly after they opened at 7am, and there was only one other customer in front of me. Their menu is limited but in my opinion, all you really need to know is the Kai latte. I ordered the medium Kai latte, which is their signature mac nut latte with your choice of milk (I got almond milk) for $6.75. It was so creamy and flavorful! I wish I would've gotten a large! They also offer drinks like mocha, cappuccino, chai, matcha, cortado, espresso, cold brew, etc. And you can purchase their whole bean coffee bags to go! It's a walk up window to order coffee. There is no store you can walk into. You can buy coffee and drinks from the window only. I ordered the Kai latte with oat milk and WOW it was divine! If I lived closer I would buy one every morning. Very friendly young guy working on Saturday. I think he was alone and there was about 8 of us that walked up to order from 3 different parties all at once. Felt kinda bad for him! The parking is obsolete. I was hesitant to review Kai Coffee because I can't drink coffee (I bounce off the walls). I am reviewing this based on their Chai Latte. :) Kai Coffee is located next door to Sunrise Restaurant. When they first opened, I happened to be there when they were roasting their coffee beans. OMG. It smelled like chocolate baking and I thought someone was making chocolate chip cookies. Sniffed my way to Kai and got a tour. They don't allow people to tour anymore but it's a really neat set up! I purchased some gifts for coffee loving friends in the cute tins they have available (see photo). After having a lovely lunch at Sunrise, we walked over to the window to get drinks. I got the Chai Tea Latte (hot) with Almond Milk. They had other choices like milk milk and oat milk. The Chai had a nice mixture of spices and wasn't overly sweet like some places makes em. I would order it again! Next time I want to try the Matcha Latte. But anyhoo. Street parking. Great customer service, the guys working there are so friendly and engaging. Fast service. Tea was lovely. Can't comment on the coffee but my co-worker really liked the Kai Latte (Mac nut coffee). Why not park at Sunrise Restaurant, grab some food from there and Kai so you can support TWO great local businesses? Win win! read more

There's nothing quite like fresh roasted, fresh ground coffee. Once you try it, it's hard to go back to Keurig. The entrance feels a bit like discovering a hidden secret. You need to ring the bell to enter their room of wonderful smells when the coffee is roasting. They have several different coffees in a variety of sizes for retail sale. The gift tins are cute, but quite small. I found the 7 oz, bags to be the perfect size for sampling. Service is very personalized. My partner gets a large cold brew with a splash of oat milk and I get the iced Kai Latte with oat milk. Both are smooth, delicious and packs a nice caffeine punch. James and Steven are always friendly and welcoming. James knows our order by heart, which we sincerely appreciate on the days when we're caffeine deprived and can't mutter out our drink order. It feels like this location is an afterthought... I've been to Kai in Waikiki and this is probably the place they call home to roast their coffee beans and thought why not add in a walk up window as well lol! Don't get me wrong the coffee here is just outstanding just the convenience is great if you're in the area...I supposed the same for those in Waikiki as well but the parking here is the real challenge but I do recommend to grab a sip from here if you're in the area. You really can't miss the vibrant artsy painted building and the staff at the window is a delight which then I noticed the summer special item which he totally recommended "Espresso Tonic". Shots of espresso with tonic water and vanilla syrup...strange indeed but he says it's his favorite and kinda taste like Coca Cola, okay I gotta try this! You know whoever is the mixologist here that came up with this is brilliant! No it isn't gonna be my go to favorite sip but it was really good and does taste sorta like Coca Cola with a bite hahaha!!! Located in Kapahulu goings to Waikiki side. Parking was fine, it's a small lot or street parking. When I got to the window, I noticed it was just one guy working. He wasn't friendly, didn't greet me, nor did he smile. I told him it was my first time trying the place, and if he had any recommendations m. I got no recommendations and no emotions at all. So that was a bummer. I ended up just ordering a Kai latte sweetened. When I got my coffee, I noticed how watered down it was. I would expect milky, but no it was more on the clear side. The taste of the coffee wasn't was I had hoped for a it was definitely watery, and it wasn't sweetened. This is my go to coffee place, I have not found any good coffee in a while especially after Washington. The service was great especially the main branch, I would come here even though it's a long drive. This is not a sit down place, where you can hang out but you can grab a good strong coffee. I recommend espresso tonic but they are seasonal, cold brew is a hit and chai latte. There chai latte depends on who makes it, but the one I got reminds me of a Somalian chai latte. read more

You order through a small window on the side of the store where you can smell the rich aroma of freshly ground coffee wafting through the air as you wait (of note there is no seating but it is a great place to pick up coffee on your way to a morning hike).
