Pepperoni Roll and cheese REGULAR SLICE
JJ C.

The place is large but, like others have said majority of it goes unused. The staff is friendly and had no issues with the service. Grabbed a cheese slice and a pepperoni roll with a side of marinara sauce. Both were solid, the slices undercarriage was cooked perfectly, the amount of cheese could be better but the slice was solid. It can hang with most places downstate in NYC and LI. The pepperoni roll was good, only negative was the amount of garlic used. I will be repelling all the vampires in the area from West Point, no getting bit tonight. The side of sauce was ok, just a plain marinara sauce not much seasoning added. Overall a solid experience and would definitely visit again. Just next time might avoid the rolls due to the garlic. I like garlic but this was just too much. The ambiance was fine, easy listening music in the background and the tables were fine.

Sexy Pizza

Hold onto your hats cause this review will blow you away. Been following this place for awhile on Instagram and tonight decided to take the ride from Paramus NJ. Pulled into a packed parking lot and could smell the delicious aroma of pizza as soon as I exited the vehicle. Upon entering we were greeting warmly with smiles and welcome messages from all the employees. We chose our seat and said hello to Providence, got our menus, ordered our wine and started discussing what we would be ordering. Our waiter Vittoli was a real darling and brought us garlic knots to nibble on while we perused the menu. We started with Stracciatella Soup which was served piping hot (the way soup should be served) and was just like my grandmother made....delish! We decided on the Sexy Pizza - Fresh mozzarella, house-milled tomato sauce, fresh basil, and a touch of roasted garlic, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil on a thin crispy crust. OMG!! Light crispy crust NO flop! Perfect seasoning and cooked to perfection. Wanted to eat the whole pizza but had it wrapped so that we could have coffee and gelato for dessert. Do yourself a favor and the next time you are looking for a cute, friendly place to have a great meal try Bear Mountain Pizza...I know I will be back sooner than later.

Sexy Pizza Slice

Stopped in after bear mountain hike for a couple quick slices. A+ Buffalo chicken and "sexy slice" aka margarita were both top notch. We're from NYC and eat good pizza all the time -- this place held its own for sure! Quality and fresh!

Garlic knots (we had eaten half already)

Very pleasantly surprised - like many other reviewers we stopped here after a hike in Harriman. Tortilla soup was delicious. Good garden salad, garlic knots and Stromboli. I'll be back the next time I go for a hike in the area. Service was kind too

Grandma Pizza Slice

I pick up others every so often since the indoor dining opened back up and no more food truck. So the service I was mixed on, since guy making pizzas had to text to get someone to man the counter which was bit embarrassing I would say. So I placed my order and it was ready in time. The grandma pizza was delicious, I see why most of my deliveries are for that type of pizza, just right amount of fresh mozzarella and tomato sauce with a small amount of fresh basil. The crust was thin and not doughy. Penne bolognese, the pasta was al Dante, plenty of meat, but wish had more sauce since the pasta was but naked without. Otherwise a pretty good meal I portioned into two for a later lunch. Garlic knots were alright, not swimming in garlic oil, which my heartburn thanks me for haha. But still great knots, better than some side salad, or bread loaf. Don't get many chances to try here, but on a visit I have try the sexy pizza, when I get more time and Cash. Glad to be customer here for once rather than a driver.

So good! We walked in expecting a sit down pizza joint, and quickly found out it's a classic pizza style. I.e., you walk up to the counter and order either slices or order whatever you'd like. The gentlemen behind the counter were SO friendly and charismatic. We ordered a small pizza and pinwheel. Both were phenomenal. Based on our experience, I would venture to say they use fresh mozzarella, which makes a better pizza (and is what drove me to review this). Overall, it was a great experience with great food

Eggplant Rollatini and Grandma slices

This area of upstate New York, surrounding West Point Military Academy, is a food desert. Your only options include a McDonalds, a Chinese restaurant with a 1 star average on Yelp, and a few pizza joints. Bear Mountain is one of them, and probably your best bet. Their menu offers an impressive range of classic and unique pizza slices and pies, plus house made pastas, salads, desserts, and more. One large pizza, 2 slices, a salad, and cannoli, came to $75 via DoorDash. Our order took 1 hour and 30 minutes to be delivered, despite the restaurant being 3 miles from our hotel. Do not get a salad from here. About 50% of the greens in my House Salad were rotting, and thus inedible. The Eggplant Rollatini slice was, well, confusing. Did the thin, flimsy pieces of breading contain eggplant? It did not seem so. Why was there a giant gob of mozzarella in one isolated area? The ricotta on this slice was good, but nothing else was. The best item in our order was the Grandma slice: an expertly executed square of crisp, olive oil scented crust, topped with flavorful marinara. Our large pie, which we got with pepperoni and olives, was passable. It was not on par with NYC pizza, but had a solid crust and above average ingredients. The Cannoli was tasty as well; it had hints of cinnamon and fruit that I was not expecting.

Solid pizza, great prices and quick service. Smelled great inside as well with the giant oven. Quick place for food near West Point.

Found Common Grounds on Yelp and knew it was my kind of place! The shop is modern, clean, and bright. The staff was friendly and professional. They roast their own beans. It was literally the only place I could find on short notice with reservation slots available, which maybe should have been a sign (and certainly a reminder to me to be much more proactive about this sort of thing in the future). This was sort of a meet in the middle for us; she's in Redding, CT, and I'm in North Jersey. Common Grounds is located at the end of a strip mall, though arguably a higher-end one. The parking lot was VERY busy and while spots were relatively easy to find, I had to settle for one further away close to the bowling alley next door. All good though in that regard. The first hint that this was going to go downhill happened almost immediately. Despite having made the reservation for 11, our designated table wasn't available for seating because the prior party was "lingering." There wasn't a time limit on the dining parties so it seemed like Common Grounds just made assumptions on when people would leave, which is probably not an exact science on the best of days, and certainly not on a day where you might have a family reunion element. We were offered a large high-top table to sit at instead, which my mother isn't comfortable with, and after a few minutes of sitting there, were instructed to take a "normal" table by the window. I will give props for the hostess reading the room in that regard and doing what she could to give us an optimal seating situation - the wait and miscalculation wasn't her fault. She was also very nice to my mother, which for sure counts for something. It took probably 15 minutes for our waitress to come by and ask for drink/food orders, which isn't great. I'd decided on the Blueberry Lemon Ricotta Pancakes from the Specials menu, only to be told by the waitress that they were no longer available. I then had to quickly pivot to the French Toast from the regular menu, but lack of availability is something that should have been mentioned when we received the menus, not while we're ordering. And it wasn't even noon - a little concerning. I don't know if it was just a bad day behind the scenes, but it took over 45 minutes to get two pretty simple brunch entrees to us, and almost as much time to get our beverages. That would at least be understandable if the place was packed and everyone was busy, but that wasn't the case - a lot of tables emptied up within 20 minutes of our arrival, and in a pretty troubling optic, most of the front-end waitstaff was literally just standing around by the coffee station not doing anything. That's bad management, and could have helped alleviate whatever was happening in the kitchen. You have five minutes to kill? Okay, stop by your tables and apologize for the delay. Help bus and turn over the recently vacated tables. Maybe refill my water glass, which was empty for most of my meal. There's just no excuse for that. And it's a shame because my Cardamon Rose Latte was excellent, and the French Toast was very good as well. French Toast isn't one of my go-to's, but when I have it I prefer it to be softer and not as cumbersome, and this fit the bill. But because the wait time and overall service was mediocre at best, I didn't even want to go near a dessert menu or consider having a second latte - that probably would have tacked on another hour. So by virtue of not being attentive and efficient, Common Grounds left money on the table. A real shame; and frankly, surprising to me given that this has to be a very notable day on the calendar for brunch places. I'd ensure everything was well-oiled and ready to go, and it's clear it just wasn't. I overheard quite a few people outside singing the praises of this place, and I saw enough to probably understand why. But we weren't the beneficiary of most of those qualities.

It's counter service and there was already a bit of a line when we arrived around 7:15am (why were so many people already up and about?! lol). We loved that they had a great variety of options, including many vegetarian options. I went with the egg & cheese sandwich and accidentally ordered it without the greens & sauce (whoops!). However, it was still delicious and satisfying. My husband got the avocado toast which was SUPER filling due to the hummus that was on it. He was only able to finish half of it. We also got a side order of fruit which, to my delight, was a bowl of berries! The fruit is seasonal so the combination might be different depending on what time of year you are visiting. Also, both of our coffees met our standards, which are a bit high these days. So kudos to them on that! The ambiance was absolutely incredible!!! Very well lit with a bright, welcoming atmosphere. We sat near the back of the restaurant (away from all windows), however we still felt like we were being flooded with sunlight. It was wonderful! Definitely recommend coming here to grab breakfast while visiting Beacon!
