This place kicks Cracker Barrel's butt!!! Food came in large portions and absolutely delicious. I ordered the corned beef hash with pancakes, and potatoes for $9! What a deal! The corned beef hash was not your typical canned variety. It was freshly hashed beef. Seasoned just right. The potatoes were nice and tender in the center and crispy all around. I was here on July 1st. I am now utterly convinced that all the food in St. George comes from cans buried deep in the bowel's of a bomb shelter. We were seated pretty quickly despite it being packed and full of billions of children, all under the age of 5. The waitress looked unhappy and surly (so did everyone else). We were nice, tried to crack a joke...all to no avail. I ordered a few things because the prices were great and I wanted to sample around. First came the Eggs Benedict. It was on a standard store-bought English muffin and did not boast a true hollaindaise sauce. It was white and tasted like a funky cream. It made me sick to my stomach after two bites. Vanilla filled French toast was also a funky one. The cream was coagulated and looked old, and the thing itself made me nauseous. It was like a stale old donut. The blueberry waffle was dense and doughy, not at all like a real Belgian. Light, airy, flavorful, and crispy is more like it! This was just disappointing. I visited Bearpaw Cafe after passing by while walking my dog. Seeing the friendliest people come outside looking quite satisfied and pleased with their experience, I decided to stop by for a late breakfast. I was not disappointed. The light and fluffy, yet crispy and delicate Belgian waffle and cappuccino I ordered were out of this world, but that's just the start. The staff was quick and attentive, even during a rushed lunch and I was seated at their bar. I was given the perfect balance of peace and companionship. Lexi made sure I was attended to yet did not interrupt my meal. She was amazing and I was delighted to be served by her. As I finished my meal I caught the managers, Jackson, attention. He took his time to answer every question, and flattered me with an itinerary of the surrounding area for my time there. The atmosphere is no good, too small, cramped, hot, noisy, sweaty, etc. You get to stand in line for like 12 hours then you get to sit in cramped conditions and eat food that you could have found at the Black Bear or Denny's or Georges Corner without the wait. Ok, let me start by saying I have been eating here since 2003. In 10 years of eating here, I have noticed a few changes that I really have to say are dragging it down! I ate here just this morning. 1- it seems to have lost its quaint charm. There are not as many plants and decorations, although the major decor is still there. 2- The staff look sloppy and though they are nice and helpful, they look sloppy, which makes me wonder what the standards are in the areas we can't see. 3- They have replaced a few of the chairs that are normally nice and roll around with cheap plastic folding chairs. 4- There is no more "Real Salt" on the table and hasn't been for some time. It has a far superior taste and lends to the quaint small town eatery. They switched from a high quality jam to spread on your toast to Smuckers. 5- The home fried potatoes change a while back and as of today have only become worse. They have gone to a frozen cut potato from fresh and instead of frying them on the grill and seasoning them well, they pop them in the deep fryer and cover them in some generic seasoning so there is just too much. 6- All the nice glassware is gone! Long gone! The manager said last time I was there (December) it was a temporary move. This time she said it was to cut costs. Why do I pay a premium price to get cut corners and plastic cups like kids drink from? No for a review of the meal we ordered. My daughter got scrambled eggs, bacon home-fries, and a cherry crepe. My son-in-law got their signature dish, pecan french toast which was still as good as ever. I got eggs over medium, home-fries, and bacon. My daughter's eggs were over cooked and too salty. The home-fries were very over seasoned and just as above. Crappy! Her crepe was full of canned pie filling and tasted over cooked or just warmed up in a microwave. Very rubbery. My eggs were over well not medium. I can deal with less then medium, but over done ruins the meal. the home-fries were as above, crappy! The bacon was just OK. In 2003 they served bacon you would crave. You went there just to get a fix! It seems yet another corner has been cut. My daughter ordered an Italian soda which was very good. I ordered a steamed milk with hazelnut. They introduced me to them in 2003 and they were awesome with whipped topping and a bit of nutmeg sprinkled on it served in a fancy glass mug. This time it came with no whipped topping or nutmeg and in a plastic cup. They still have a huge line on the weekends, but to those that have been going there for years know what it has been and it is no where near that now. I was told that the owner, Phil who used to manage it doesn't visit very often and the current people that manage it have done all this to boost profits. Please bring back the old Bear Paw! I promise if you do I will gladly return and happily pay more for an awesome meal, instead of getting a meal I can cook better at home for your current price!. read more

We've ate Bear Paw several times. Food has been good except for one experience. I've had their vegetable quiche twice. The first time it was excellent. The second time it didn't taste right. I mentioned it to the server who informed me the first time I ordered it probably had been made fresh that day. She said they don't make it fresh everyday and can keep it to serve for up to a week! OK, so this is known as a breakfast place but the lunch menu ain't bad. I had the french dip and my lady ordered the Bear Paw Combo focaccia sandwich. Both were tasty. The only weird part was when we put in our coffee orders at the end of the meal. My definition of a macchiato is a shot of espresso with a little bit of foam on the top. We got a layered concoction with milk at the bottom, espresso in-between and lots of foam at the top. Not a very macho macchiato, I fear. read more

That's not true anymore. People still go and wait in the ridiculous lines just to get substandard fare. People who give this place 5 stars need to find some of the other cafe's in the area to comapre to. So just visited this place yesterday. Since my first review, have been there a half a dozen times before now. My star rating decreased because their service leaves so much to be desired. Their food is still quite delicious, and clearly they have regulars who keep this place on the map, but they never make me or any of the others l've brought to this place feel like we matter or are happy to serve. We kept going back, hoping it was merely an off day, but it always remains the same. Waitresses look at you, no greeting, no smile, no acknowledgment you are a living, breathing customer, when you walk through the the door. Our waitress this time was a young girl (Tesha) and very sweet once she actually got to our table. We sat for over 5 minutes before we were asked if we wanted something to drink, and another 10 or so before it was brought to the table. This was not a busy morning. Tables were open. This is a small place, and in any standard Denny's or chain restaurant would have coffee in your cup (and keep it coming)by the time your butt hits the seat. This has happened before when we were there. They are really slow about filling your cup. Go for the food...just don't expect warm, friendly, prompt service. Stopped in for breakfast last Thursday morning at around 11:15 AM. Told by the hostess that there was a 15 minute wait, so we put our name on the list. The hostess was very friendly and was working hard to get tables bussed. Got seated at around 11:35 AM, this is when service went downhill. Did not get greeted by our waitress for over 10 minutes. This waitress had zero personality and looked like she did not want to be there at all. Barely said 2 words to us, we had to tell her that we were ready to order or I think we would still be waiting. After our order was placed, we waited 32 minutes for our food. In the meantime, this same waitress dropped off to our table another table's order, then picked it up after we told her it wasn't ours. When our food finally arrived, my eggs were ice cold, as were my potatoes. No way was I going to return the food and risk another 30 minute wait. I could make any of these breakfast items at home, I came here for the dining experience and good food, and left with neither expectation filled. I don't want to embarrass the server I had publicly, but if management is smart they will look up my ticket and coach her. Day of visit was 5/23 and check number was 54, table was 5-4. read more

Fortunately we replaced our breakfast routine at Bear Paw with a far better alternative, The Egg & I. Considering Bear Paw never tried contacting us, apologizing, or fixing their mistakes, I will always dissuade friends from eating there. I really wanted to love this place because it's in a charming location right in St. George's historic downtown. However, my Pecan Crunch French Toast was very dry. It's coated in oatmeal, which I thought would be cool but which actually just made it seem stale. And the pecans just seemed dropped on the top as an afterthought. The service was also pretty slow. It was a busy morning, but it was also a Thursday and I don't think it's too much to ask that the service not take forever at a restaurant. read more
