Loved this place! The restaurant is located in a quieter street near the busy Banff Ave. The service was fantastic and we sat in the patio on a nice summer day. Ordered the Italiano Pizza and Pork Belly Mac N' Cheese Italiano Pizza 5/5 - This pizza was fantastic. It came with generous toppings for a few types of hams and fresh cheese layered all over. Be SURE to dip this pizza in the signature honey / bear street tavern sauce mixture. This made the crust so bomb to eat. Unbeatable for pizza and beer. Many local and regional beers in addition to surprisingly good cocktails makes this a great place to knock back a few of whatever drink is your choice. The variety and quality of the pizza is well beyond what you might expect of a bar. It's crazy delicious. Be warned though - being this good means it's also pretty crowded so you'll want to get there early. Other than perhaps waiting a while for a seat, you're going to love this place. read more

I would eat here all the time if I was local. Modern rustic atmosphere with tv's to watch sports around the bar area. Waitress was very helpful with local beer selections. Wandered in for a drink and ended up staying for a bite. The place was fairly popping to it seemed like the place to be. We were seated quickly at the bar since we only intended to get a beverage and keep walking down the Main Street. The husband and I ordered two of their cocktails off the menu and the gnocchi. Neither one the drinks were super exciting. Both seemed to be lacking a lot of flavor and tasted mostly of ice. The gnocchi's presentation was great in a hot skillet. It just needed a little bit more umph. There were many whole garlic cloves however the pasta itself didn't taste like it until you ate the clove itself. My husband ended up asking for some sauce on the side since it was a fairly dry dish. Everyone seemed to be getting pizza. Maybe that's the route we should have taken- they did look good. Came here as a recommendation. This seems to be the place to go to when in Banff. We arrived before the rush. The place is really cute and is decorated with local signs about not feeding the Bears and such. The food is mostly gourmet pizza and beer. They also have salads burgers They are known for their interesting Special Sauce that consists of a hot chili oil with rosemary and you mix that with honey. Every single one of the staff members we interacted with from entering this restaurant until we left was rude to us, but damn do they make a good mac and cheese. They were full, we didn't make reservations because we didn't think we would have time to eat here, but they had two seats at the bar. We took it. We had somewhere to go, but we really wanted to try this restaurant, so we ordered the pork belly mac and cheese to share. Not sure what the bar girl's problem was but she really didn't like us. They gave us so much attitude when we only ordered a beer at first. I was sick so I couldn't drink. They didn't refill our water and ignored us for a long time when we wanted to order something else, as well as when we wanted the bill. Mac and cheese was really good. Definitely recommend getting it. Like damn, probably top 3 mac and cheese I've ever had. It tasted really fresh and it was gigantic. We didn't expect to be full after eating here but we were very much satiated. Seriously if they weren't so rude, I really would have really enjoyed this meal. Halfway through the mac and cheese I was feeling a bit better so I ordered the Caesar that I really was looking forward to having here. The black haired bar girl ignored us when we tried to order it, but the blonde one eventually took our order. However, the black haired one wanted to make it. She literally put half that bottle of Tobasco into my drink. I saw her make other ones before mine, she definitely did not put that much in everyone else's. Good thing I like spicy things. The acidity complemented the rich mac and cheese really well. Even though it was like mostly drinking Tobasco, the Caesar itself was really flavourful. While driving through the city I stumbled along this cute pizza place. I got the The Big Bird Pie - wow. This pizza was cooked perfectly, just slightly crunchy. It had a lively crowd for the smaller town. Our server was a delight, she was very personable and really made it a good experience. The venue was so cute, there was plenty of opportunities for good pictures. The patio was flourished with lights and was an adorable setting. This place is totally instagramable. Overall I had a pleasant experience, my sisters and I really enjoyed the food and the environment. If I'm ever driving through town again I would make an effort to have another lunch here. read more

Bear Street Tavern is one of my favourite restaurant in Banff. Their pizza are very good and what is unique about this place is the dipping sauce. When you order any pizza or Garlic Cheese Finger it comes with Honey and Rosemary Thyme chilli oil for dipping. I usually use the chilli with a bit if honey and it is perfect! The oil is not spicy but you could taste the herbs! Their starters are pretty big! so if you ordered a lot you will be taking some food home. We ordered the Garlic Cheese Fingers and Pork Belly Mac & Cheese. Both dishes were absolutely amazing! A bit heavy because of all the cheese :p Highly recommend both items. Some great pizza! Seriously try one of their pizzas, they're really good. I got the chicken bird one, and it was delicious, plus they give you a blend of spicy rosemary oil and honey to mix together as a dip. That is seriously something I've not seen before and goes surprisingly well with pizza. Also tried one of the hefeweizens brewed locally, was good and light, very refreshing. After hiking Johnston Canyon, we put away the nachos AND at least half of our respective pizza pies. This place is no joke! Pizza places as unique and delicious as Bear Street Cavern are really hard to come by so I'm glad we discovered this place through a vague recommendation at work and a quick Google search of "honey pizza Banff". Their pizza is delicious on their own, but the staff will recommend you try dipping them in honey, which adds a unique flavor like nothing else. Trust me, try it. Banff was but another stop on our road trip and we left the day after eating here. Therefore, I'm happy to report that you can ask for honey to-go and the pizza is just as good as leftovers, if not better. read more

The people at the Bear Street Tavern have been wonderful during a stressful time. The food is great but the people are better. We came to the tavern looking for good pizza and were heavily disappointed. We got the big bird which is one of their most popular. It was so bland and lacking any salt whatsoever. The only bites with any flavor were with bacon. Dishing out $24 for a pizza and wishing we ate dominoes instead. The customers next to us had ordered 2 pizzas, one of which they only had one bite of a slice and that was it. It apparently had some sweet garlic sauce on it. This was a cute spot in the city center of Banff. Rated the highest Yelp stars in the area, I was curious to check it out myself. Walking in you are greeted by warm family pictures and an autographed picture of Canadian Food network host, John Catucci, from the show "You've gotta eat here". (I presume that is the Canadian equivalent of Guy Fieri's show? I wouldn't know) The decor was rustic and had a family diner feel to it. With a wide selection of beers in bottle and draft that painted the fridges in back of the bar. The staff were this signature lumberjack type aprons. My friend and I had the half a carafe of red wine : pinot noir for 30$ (pricey side). The speciality here was pizza-that are good to share for 2 priced at around 20$. The pizza crust is traditionally eaten with a chilli oil mixed with honey. I wasn't crazy about this blend, however I did order a side of fresh pesto that I greatly enjoyed with my meal (that usually comes with the big bird). We ordered the viva la pizza *** on 5 stars (chorizo-the pieces were rather big,roasted pepper,carmelized onion, goat cheese, bbq sauce-too sweet and didn't compliment the pizza well). I thought that prosciutto could've rendered the pizza more delicate-vs. The chorizo chunks that took away from the beauty of the dish). My husband and I visited Bear Street Tavern TWICE on our five day vacation in Banff. There's nothing quite like a carb-y pizza after an active day of hiking and sightseeing, especially on the laid back patio at the Tavern that accommodates hiking boots and heels alike. What attracted us to the Tavern was the Honey and Rosemary Infused Olive Oil that they serve with each pizza. A little taste of uniqueness goes a long way with us, so we were excited to try something new. On our first visit we enjoyed The Godfather (substituted olives for red onion) and the Roasted Carrot & Parsnip Salad. Both were packed with flavor and enough to fill the bellies of me and the hubs. The pizza crust is thin but tasty and overflowing with generous amounts of toppings. The second time around we tried The Hawaiian and the Caesar Salad with strips of Smoked Bison reminiscent of prosciutto. Another unique find! Never have I been equally impressed with salads and pizza... until now. Be sure to leave room for both, not one or the other! Buffalo Wings They don't have a deep fryer, so they brine their wings and put them in the broiler. Fall off the bone and you feel a bit healthier since they aren't deep fried. The staff was completely inattentive to us the entire time. The kitchen was obviously not prepared to deal with the amount of people at the restaurant which did not seem abnormally crowded. The salad actually ended up coming out at the same time as our pizza so we are not even able to eat that. We actually had to get up and find someone to get our bill yet there were multiple people working there standing around. I am truly shocked the manager did not come up and talk to us about the experience, the long wait and the mishandling of our food but they did not care. Our group ate here twice during our stay in beautiful Banff. The restaurant has wonderful pizzas and a delicious gluten free crust if you wish! Hubby and I shared the Godfather Pizza, a delightful and mouth watering concoction with prosciutto, arugula, garlic cloves, olives, grana padano, mozzarella and truffle oil. Since we were starving, a tasty grilled carrot and parsnip salad was added. Trust me...get the salad! Service was a bit scattered and we had to wait for a table at 5:30. I love Banff and I really love Bear Street Tavern. Pizzas are 11 inch thin crust gems that have a very light yet crispy crust, with ample edges perfect for dipping into your honey-hot oil mashup. We had the three pigs and it was great. Many other selections seemed to contain heaping helpings of arugula which is good, but my wife doesn't like it. Well then, why didn't she order her own? Other folks were ordering individual pizzas just for themselves. (I know because seating is super close so you can see everybody else biznass). Well, and I cannot stress this highly enough, we had the pulled pork nachos instead and they're why this is five star. Flour tortilla chips served in a medium sized cast iron skillet with just the right amounts of cheese, pork, scallions grilled to a T. Thing is, what makes the nachos and pizza and the other food is that they took care in the kitchen to arrange the dishes so the ingredients don't slip into one another. Most nachos and pizzas I get are huge clumps of sloppy food and if you appreciate some care in what you're served, come in and enjoy! read more

Bear Street Tavern is so good that we went twice during our 6 day stay in Banff. They have an excellent atmosphere, also an outside patio that allows dogs. Despite it being a holiday weekend, we didn't have to wait for dinner because they have a ton of seating inside! My only complaint really is that the tables are too small and it feels a bit squished. The food we ordered didn't hardly fit on the table. They had a great beer selection (most of it in cans). I would recommend the mango passionfruit sour if you like sour beers. I preferred that to the blackberry, but both were delicious!! Can't go wrong with any of the pizzas, tried several and they were all delicious thin crust pizza! The BEST PART of this place is their novel pizza dipping sauce. They bring you chili oil and honey, and they recommend mixing the two and dipping your pizza in it. AMAZING! Loved it! We came to Bear St Tavern after a long hike up Sulphur Mountain. The restaurant is very spacious, so it was pretty easy to find a seat for lunch. After looking through their menu, we decided to order the Big Bird pizza, which is a chicken pizza with bacon, spinach, onions, goat cheese, and pesto. The enjoyed the fresh ingredients. Everything went well together. The crust was crunchy yet still soft. The server was very attentive and refilled our waters. We were very thirsty after a long hike. The veggies and cheese were great; try the pizza with the garlic oil and honey too! The fish tacos came two for $19. Pretty pricey if you ask me but then once you try them you are sold. The coleslaw has the perfect blend of sweet creamy heat, and the fish was a decent size. I totally would have eaten the other one if my husband let me. As for the pizza we went with the big bird. Pizzas here come with a thin very crispy crust and any pizza can be order as a calzone instead. They also serve the pizza with a side of chilli oil and honey. Initially I thought the pizza was just ok, but then add a bit of the chilli oil and a drizzle honey and BAM pizza on a whole new level. Nice Overall a great experience. Patrons in this joint are lively and young. We even struck up a conversation with some people from other tables. Visited Bear Street Tavern on a Saturday night and it was packed. Our server was definitely in the weeds, to say the least, but she did her best. I'd recommend coming early or planning ahead if you're looking to visit, as they do not take reservations. We ordered the Primo Italiano (calzone), the Hawaiian, and the Pulled Pork Nachos. It was an interesting combination of flavors. The potato salad was chunky but contained spicy hot pepper. Be aware of this as you can order a salad or other item.
