We got two of each: regular, honey butter, creme brûlée, chocolate, and Oreo. All with vanilla filling except for one with chocolate. When you get there, you choose the shell and filling. They have three filling options, vanilla, chocolate and I believe green tea, but not 100% of last option. They will fill them for you once you pick the shell so that the cream puff is fresh and not soggy. They are all individually wrapped. They traveled well in the box. They definitely are a messy treat but so worth it. My husband's and I favorite was the creme brûlée while the honey butter was a close second. My 8 year old loves the honey butter and the 2 year old claimed the chocolate was yummy in her tummy. We haven't tried the Oreo one yet. We were told they would last 2 days or so before they get soggy. read more

Weird business name but their products are so good! My husband, who is a custard connoisseur, highly approves! I would have posted pictures but they were consumed too fast! They never made it home. Here's how it works, if you've never visited: 2 plain shells (profiterole) to choose from or specialty shells with toppings (chocolate, green tea, cream brûlée, s'more, etc). Pick one of these. Then choose your fillings: ( vanilla, chocolate, one more I can't remember or ice cream for extra $1) Then pay and enjoy! The basic is @ $3.50 and the specialties are a little more. They said they haven't been getting a lot of business. Advertising would help. We only found them because we were just curious about the name. Also, please turn down your music, pretty loud. I understand your employees have to be masked but it's hard to hear them with masking and loud music blaring behind me. I will definitely go back again. Everything was delicious!! read more

Best cream puffs ever! This is a hidden gem that should be located elsewhere. I feel sad that it's hidden in Clovis and totally unappreciated. I keep telling everyone I know about this place, but it's just so out there and it's not very visible. I see people going into the Baskin Robbins next door and I feel sorry for them that they've not had the sense to go to Beard Papas instead for a much more interesting and delicious dessert. This is a seriously underrated and unknown dessert place that really should be at the forefront of Fresno's dessert spots. We try to stop by at least once a month, and service can be slow, but the cream puffs are worth it. All the flavors are good, and they are generous and consistent with the fillings. The creams are light and just the right amount of sweetness. I'd take Beard Papas cream puffs over most French bakeries cream puffs. They are delectable! I'm glad Beard Papa's finally opened in fresno area and I don't have to drive to Cupertino for my fave cream puffs anymore. Crème brûlée is my favorite and maybe my imagination but tasted better than the one in Cupertino, the flambé was crunchy and torched perfectly. Custard had nice creamy texture and perfect temperature. Puff also had nice texture which is not too hard not too soft because it's made fresh. So in love with this place. I drove by Herndon a few days ago and came across their sign saying it's now open. This place is super popular in San Francisco and Cupertino...so glad they brought one to Fresno. There are many shells to choose from. For example the original, chocolate, green tea, etc and there are 3 types of filling: vanilla, chocolate, and green tea. Their prices are affordable and the cream puffs are so deliciously made. I'm not a sweet tooth and to me, the cream was not too sweet or overfilling. The texture is just right. The gal at the register was sweet and the wait time was not too long. I am hoping more people will know about this place and try it out. It's definitely a must plus supporting small local businesses is great too. read more

The employees are all fantastic but management needs to wake up a little. Put your hours of operation on Yelp. Put your phone number on Yelp. You have 50 reviews and you don't even care, obviously. There is no reason you don't have the staff continue to make these items throughout the day. You cannot be out of the with over two hours left before you close. Having a few green tea ones doesn't count. I wanted to get two dozen of these and you lost a $90 sale because you didn't want to possibly waste a few items at the end of the night. Pâte à choux is one of the most technical and difficult pastries to make- not just for home cooks but in general. This specialty cream puff store has it down to PERFECTION. Don't advertise your time as closing at 8 pm when you guys close before that. I just came from the store and arrived at 7:54 pm. The doors were locked already. The lady at the counter clearly saw us and when we asked if we can still purchase, she would not even come to the door to say something to us. She was gesturing with her hands something that didn't make any sense. Clearly she still has cream puffs infront of her and could care less about the customer and just wanted to close and get done with her day. Not the best way to run a business. I love me some cream puffs so seeing that this place had some fresh ones like made the same day, I had to get me some. I ended up grabbing all of the flavors that they had besides that plain one. I grabbed Matcha, strawberry, chocolate, honey n butter, crème brûlée and maybe another but I don't remember. They didn't have that chocolate lava thing at the time. I had all of them filled with vanilla filling. U can choose out of three: vanilla, matcha or chocolate. The best one to me was the honey n butter filled with vanilla!!! Don't get me wrong tho cus All em was busssssiiinnn!!!!! I would most definitely go back. Walked by Beard Papa's on our way to pick up Poki Land for dinner and were immediately set on going back for dessert. We got the box of 5 get 1 free, we got 1 chocolate eclair with chocolate cream, 3 honey butter with vanilla cream and the almond with vanilla cream and 1 plain with vanilla cream. They were amazing! I can't recall the last time I had a cream puff but these were so delicious. I should have taken pictures but they are packaged so cute and I love the bold yellow and blue colors they use. I kept seeing this place on FB so when I was in Clovis in the area I decided to give it a try because I love sweets. The girl working wasn't all that friendly, I told her it was my 1st time and all she said was these are the shells and pointed at the case so I picked a Oreo and a chocolate then she says what filling as she pointed at the menu hanging above. A good employee would explain how it works and perhaps suggest a few of the more popular flavors. Found this place while visiting in-laws in Fresno. My 78-yo FIL was raised in Maui and talking about a place they'd go to that sold cream puffs filled with custard. He really missed those cream puffs. And, he can't travel anymore. I'm pretty sure I scored major brownie points bringing him Beard Papa's. I'd happened to show up at the shop near closing and the server hooked me up with extras after she heard his story. So very much appreciated! Well, never realized it was Japanese in origin. It was a bit unsettling to consider a food place named after facial hair, but here goes. Sparse inside. Not sure how fresh some of the cream puffs were. There weren't many up front. They take them in the back to fill them after you order. Many flavors and filling combinations. Rather expensive for what you get. The creation myth holds that an old bearded baker in Japan was challenged by some children to come up with something new and violá you get crispy shelled cream puffs. One of us who doesn't care much about cream puffs thought they were pretty good. Too sweet on the inside though. One of us thought the were too crispy and expected a soft, fluffy, European(?) style cream puff. Not sure if they'll make it in the Fresno metro. Okay I've been here more than a few times because I love cream puffs and this is the only Beard Papa's in Fresno/Clovis County. All the times that I went I always order a dozen. In the past I would have easily given this place 5 stars because the cream inside the puff was actually filled all the way where all the cream is dripping out in every bite. Now isn't the case. The past three times I went the cream is so less that when I hold it, the cream puff is so light it feels like air. I was just eating bread basically. Yeah I know inflation is happening but the cream puffs isn't cheap and to make the vanilla custard isn't all that expensive, the least they can do is fill it up. I don't know if I'll be coming back, I really wanted to support this place...sigh. read more

My husband and I discovered this place the night before. He had gotten the chocolate eclair cream puff with vanilla filling while I got the ube with vanilla filling. We were blown away at how delicious it was. They are not overly sweet, it was the right amount, and it had the right texture. We live 30 minutes away but I had to make the drive today to get some cream puff because they were that good. I ordered the creme brûlée, cookies and cream, and strawberry all with vanilla filling.
