Reviewing during Covid. It's been far too long since I've gotten anything from here. The one in the Fremont New Park mall is closed. The one in Milpitas is closed. This was the next closest store to get my fix. The hunt is on. Open during Covid but better to order in person. I happen to get there at noon and they were still not open. I suspect they were either short staffed or still making the pastries. I tried to order through GrubHub and it was cancelled due to them being busy. Yup, there was a line forming out the door. They are practicing social distancing. Stand 6 feet apart and they seemed to only allow 1-2 parties in at a time. Their items are limited but I got what I came for. The original vanilla. Yummy. Massive cream puff! Got the original with vanilla filling and it did not disappoint. This place closes super early so we kept missing it but finally made it on time! It's so fast and easy, the inside seems underwhelming but once you take a bite you will forget how basic the venue is! I feel like they should have everything inside in the shape of a cream puff or something to make it more fun but whatever, the puffs are bomb. read more

It's Beard Papa's what else does it deserve besides 5 stars. Crunchy yet soft puff with tasty filling in the middle. If you like more of a texture, try the Cookie. If you want a perfect cream puff experience, get one with a top (matcha or chocolate are always good). The only issue which has nothing to do with them is the parking. I stumbled upon this place by accident and am so glad I did . After a scrumptious meal I was looking for a light dessert and these puffs were just perfect! We ordered eclair and classic puff with vanilla filling . They were light and fluffy with loads of filling which is not too sweet . It dint feel greasy at all . I'm super impressed by the flavors! Review #051 - 2020 I've had Beard Papa's delivered to me by my buddy a long while back and I remembered not liking it. He got me 6 different flavors, but I only got to try one and it must have been the matcha flavor so I didn't enjoy it & I gave the rest to my older sisters to share. On Friday night, February 21st, I convinced my younger sister to walk inside with me to check out the place right before closing & she said the smell from all the different flavors gave her a headache. I thought I was the only one bothered by it. I decided to bite the bullet and order one of each of the flavors that they still had left: vanilla, chocolate and matcha. Sadly, they ran out of the strawberry cheesecake, which we wanted to try We decided to cut them into 4's so we could each get one bite to see which flavor we'd like best. It was too big for one person to finish alone; let alone if you hate the flavor then you're stuck forcing yourself to finish the whole thing. We all agreed the the vanilla was the best out of the three. Chocolate came in second and matcha was our least favorite. We ended up leaving two bites of the matcha and no one bothered to touch them. Now, I remember why I was turned off from my first experience, because I tasted the wrong flavor first. read more

The cream puffs here are so good! It also always smells super good inside the store so you know they are baking them fresh. As for the cream puffs, you first pick a shell (I always get original), and then choose a filling. The chocolate filling is super good and silky, but the others are also pretty good. The service is super fast, usually one person takes your order and the other will pump the filling into the cream puffs. The price has also stayed pretty consistent throughout the years which is quite impressive! read more

-- Matcha Creme Puff with Brown Sugar Boba Filling (6/10) -- The outer puff was a bit heavy and more like a fruit tart shell than I would have liked. If the puff was a bit more light and airy, it would have matched the inner creme a bit more. As much as I gripe about the puff itself, I have no complaints about the cream. The creme itself was light and smooth, and with the addition of brown sugar boba inside, there was so many variations in texture that I was never bored of the puff itself. The boba itself was fairly average, but didn't taste much of brown sugar boba - as expected since Beard Papa's isn't a boba business. The boba also didn't have the chew that I expect from boba, and it was definitely on the tougher side rather than chewy. I came around closing, so I'm not sure whether that affected the quality of the creme puffs. I would also say my standards are definitely raised from my experiences in NYC, but I haven't found any quality creme puffs in the Bay Area besides this one as of today, so am happy with Beard Papas. The whole process of eating it was a bit messy as well, as the creme all exploded onto my face (though I wouldn't say I'm unhappy about that...). You people in the South Bay are so lucky! Not only you have some of the best Asian restaurants in the Bay Area, you also have a plethora of dessert options. No wonder after every visit to the South Bay, I usually feel super depressed since I have limited options in my neighborhood. After our dinner at City Fish last Saturday, our group ventured over to Beard Papa's for some cream puffs. We arrived just before 7:00pm and there was a pretty good line already. We ended up ordering half a dozen cream puffs (4 originals and 2 with green tea filling). The total was about $14 ($1 off for ordering half a dozen). I tried both types and found the puffs to be flaky on the outside and airy and soft on the inside. The creams weren't too sweet or dense. Even after a full meal, downing two puffs was no problem (at least for me :-P). Beard Papa's is definitely a cream puff magician. In you are looking for a sweet treat in Cupertino, you should definitely keep them in mind! Today was the final straw with this store. I cannot say how many times this store has taken an order and then cancelled it or closed early or ran out of items in mid day. Continually mis-managed. Today, I ordered 3 pastries and they ran out of two. Instead of calling me so I could cancel the order, they deliver 1 pastry for double the cost in fees and tip. Get your act together. How good could a cream puff be? I'm not a huge fan of cream on my pastries because there are times where the cream is too oily or it just kind of tastes like nothing but with texture. Combine that with a dry pastry and I shudder. I never gave it a chance in LA or even Japan but I finally said screw it, there must be some reason why Beard Papa's has so many locations. Upon walking into the Cupertino location, I saw there were mountains of shells which are actually a choux pastry. It's flaky and airy but hard enough to hold its shape on its own. I was there with 2 other people so we ordered a box of 6 to go. You pick your choice of shell as there are different flavors and then your filling. They assemble these in front of you. There are a few shaded picnic tables out front so we ate our cream puffs outside on a hot day. The cream puff I had was a creme brulee flavored exterior with vanilla cream filling. I'm not sure if the dough for the choux bun itself had flavoring incorporated into it but it had the torched sugar you would normally find on a creme brulee on top. The shell itself pretty much tasted like pastry. The inside was a really refreshing vanilla! Kind of weird to think that something creamy (that isn't ice cream) could be refreshing to me. The cream was cold (probably because it was refrigerated) but not to the point where your teeth would hurt. It was also not too sweet and you cold see little specks of vanilla bean in the mixture. Together it was really good. One full-sized cream puff was enough for me for an afternoon snack. They did have mini sizes as well. I've always loved cream puffs, and was excited to try a shop dedicated to them! I ordered the matcha and original cream puffs which were both pretty good. They had abundant amounts of cream in each puff, and made for a really nice dessert. I think I will try the crème brûlée one in the future, as I heard it was pretty good. They put the cream in the pastry after you order, so your pastry can be a little fresher. It's truly a nice touch. read more

Ok so this is a review of Beard Papa's Cream puffs. I invited a few friends over this weekend for a BBQ. A childhood friend of mine who just moved back to the Bay Area from New York brought dessert. He stopped by Beard Papa's and picked up 8 beautiful Cream puffs. He said that they had 3 different flavor fillings, Vanilla, crème brûlée and Green tea. He opted for the Vanilla and crème brûlée. All the puffs are made fresh and the fillings are pumped in. The box the puffs come in puts a smile on my face (see pics) all the puffs are individually put to bed in an envelope style wrapping. Now for the good part, the puffs pastry's are simply beautiful, light, airy and perfectly baked. (Flavor was probably the best I've had) the Vanilla cream though perfectly executed in consistency lacked the vanilla flavor I was so wanted to experience. The crème brûlée filling is the same vanilla filling pumped in with a small pocket of the crème brûlée filling underneath. The flavor of the crème brûlée is amazing but I didn't get it in every bite unfortunately. What I got was an occasional flavor of crème brûlée with an over whelming amount of their vanilla filling. read more

So I have never been a huge fan of cream puffs and always avoided them whenever my mom would bring them home. They always had a chalky texture and the cream would leave a weird film on my tongue. Now, that all changed when a friend brought Beard Papa's to a potluck last summer and again at the most recent party I attended! The puffs are perfectly airy, light, and crispy, and the cream... THE CREAM!!! So many different flavors on rotation and all delicious. I find the mini puffs to be the perfect size while the larger ones are much too large to the point where it's almost sickening. Okay...since my last review...someone actually did open up a couple Beard Papa's in the DC area. There was one in Georgetown, DC, but it looks like that may have folded. There's another in the Northern Virginia side that looks like it's still open. Anyway, I stopped by the Cupertino location again because it's right nextdoor to Daiso. I was greatly saddened to see that these cream puffs are like $3.10 or $3.50 each. That's freaking expensive. I guess that's northern Cal prices for you. Then I made the mistake of ordering a Crispy Almond shell with Vanilla filling, only to find out it's really just a donut with a hole in the middle with vanilla filling. Maybe I need stronger glasses, but I couldn't quite tell from the overhead picture menu that there was a hole in the middle. That of course turned out to be a HUGE disappointment. Still a fan of Beard Papa's but I would say without a doubt...avoid the Crispy Almond shell. read more

This review is long overdue. Me and my bestie love cream puffs! Especially from here. We are lowkey obsessed. Our favorite shells are honey butter and Oreo cookie crumble. Followed by creme brulee, dulce de leche, and cookie crunch. You really can't go wrong with any of the shells, even original is still really good. We always choose vanilla cream filling. I love seeing the specks of vanilla bean with every bite. Service is usually quick and I never have any issues with parking. I love going here since I can also get boba, shabu, and shop for groceries all in the same plaza. I also appreciate that they have a rewards program. It's kinda scary how often I've been getting rewards since we've bought so many cream puffs this year LOL read more

Bear Papa's always hits the spot! They specialize in Japanese style cream puffs. They aren't the small bite sized cream puffs you see in the grocery store - I would say they are the size of a baseball. They have a few different flavors to pick from but I recommend the classic cream filling or the matcha cream. They aren't overly sweet and the best part of it is the flaky crust on the outside. My daughter and I decided to find a place that sold cream puffs because she has become a big fan of Mashe the anime and was very curious how a cream puff would taste. We decided to check out Beard Papa's because we recognized him from Wreck it Ralph! Anyway we decided to try a strawberry shortcake flavor and chocolate and they were amazing! Visited the location around lunch time. Lots of parking available. Pros: can never go wrong with the original cream puff!! They offer deals like buy 6 get $1 off. Cons: Can't think of any.
