I was unfortunately a bit disappointed in our experience at Somisomi. We got two taiyaki, one custard and one black sesame. The black sesame was okay, but the custard one was way too sweet, and did not taste authentic. The texture of the outside was also quite gummy, almost like mochi, which did not fit the flavor profile. Maybe I came at an off day, but based on that experience I would not return.
Located inside Valley Fair, near Ramen Nagi, Uncle Tetsu, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema area. This spot have always been my go-to since they first open for whenever I craving for a good soft serve. The rotate flavors from time to time, so make sure to check their official Instagram to see which location offer which flavors, my all time favorite is their Milk and Cookies n' Cream. Somisomi's soft serve is creamy and quite strong on milky taste. Their taiyaki (fish shaped waffle) is also very good, it does have a good crunchy texture on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, with the perfect amount of sweetness and nice fragrant smell. So, I do recommend their Ahboong or Upside Down Ahboong for first timer, you cannot goes wrong with their Custard or Nutella filling. But this time, they released a brand new taiyaki's flavor: Dubai Chocolate and it was so good that I came back twice in the same weekend. This flavor was more expensive, I got 2 for almost $10 meanwhile 2 regular taiyakis was for $4.95 but it was worth it in my opinion. My taiyaki came out piping hot, the curnchy kataifi added so much texture to each bite and I was really happy to finish my taiyaki in one sitting. I thought I have to wait for long but there was no one in line during my visit at 6:30PM on a Friday night (shocking), staffs were attentive and quick with making my order, the taiyaki was ready in about 5-7 minutes. I think I will be a regular here if Somisomi will keep Dubai Choco Taiyaki on their permanent menu lol, finger crossed!!

We hot some icecream and taiyaki because my friend really wanted to try them out. The server was not very friendly and seemed annoyed. Took a while for our orders when there wasn't anyone before us. The ice cream was fine, taiyaki was good. Of all Somisomi locations I think this was the worst. Hoping for better service next time.

Somisomi is a local chain that sells fish-shaped pastries that you can buy with a filling of your choice (Nutella, custard, sweet bean, among others) along with soft serve ice cream. On a recent visit, my husband got ube soft serve and I got strawberry soft serve. We each got a pastry topping filled with Nutella. They were delicious!

Taiyakis were excellent and had great crispy outsides, while maintaining a chewy interior. The newer black sesame flavor was so good! Next time I'll need a couple of those. I also enjoyed the usuals like custard and red bean. They were filled pretty well. The soft serve was nice and creamy, as well as flavorful too. Not sure if eating it in the mall made a difference but I've always found somi somi soft serve to be a bit more mellow and lacking in flavor (good creamy texture but weak in taste) but on this try I had the strawberry and could taste it loud and clear! It was very delicious and smooth. Creamy and flavorful! Very strawberry-y. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. Very nice.
Got two taiyakis and was pleasantly surprised they had some fun flavors - hotteok (a brown sugar cinnamon nut mixture) and a black sesame one. They were made fresh and well cooked on the inside. My only wish was their filling was more generous but alas! The hotteok is a seasonal flavor and I really hope it becomes a staple because it's better than the custard / red bean flavor (also classics).
Somisomi always hits the spot! I got an upside down ahboong. I got the cookies and cream and matcha swirl with Nutella as my filling and Oreo crumbs as the topping. All the flavors together worked so well and it wasn't too sweet at all. I felt so bad since there was only one worker at the time, but she handled the line like a boss! Love love love!
I go to ValleyFair just for SOMISOMI! I have been a loyal fan for over 3 years. Food Recommendations: My favorite is the Upside Down Ahboong with a custard filling with Ube soft serve and matcha powder. Alternatively, I really enjoy the order with matcha soft serve. The custard filling allows the flavor of the soft serve to shine through and getting the Ahboong upside down makes for an easier way to enjoy the dessert. Service: Even when it's busy, orders come out quickly. I've never waited longer than 10 minutes even with the holiday crowds. Ambiance: This location is more of a quick serve spot in the Valley Fair mall rather than a restaurant. There is mall seating and tables available in front of the location. Parking: It is conveniently placed next to the Winchester Parking Garage which has an entrance that leads to the area.
I love somi somi with a passion. The ice cream always hits the spot for me. It's not too sweet and the consistency of the ice cream is perfect. When I'm at somi somi, I tend to try the milk flavor, and the mixed special flavors that week as well! This time I got to try the milk and cookies flavor! It was more of a biscoff, which they were able to capture the flavor really well. It was also very creamy and velvety. We even added some matcha and biscoff crumbles to top it off, and a macaron. For the price of $4.50 you can share this between two or even three people! Definitely a delicious treat.

I've had Somisomi multiple times, I went to the one in the mall Monday afternoon and was a bit disappointed to find my waffle fish (I forgot the name and I'm not near the menu)... COLD and not fresh. The waffle is so much better when it's freshly made, the worker just had some already made just sitting there. They also have a kiosk where you can order yourself, I miss human interactions. read more
We love all Somisomi locations for their delicious desserts. This location in particular we had to go to to get rid of the bad taste we had from our dinner. They had a long line, but we decided to still wait. The young man working the front was by himself and still taking care of the line fairly quickly. Taking the order, getting payment, and the dessert to us all at the same time was amazing. He needs a raise (didn't catch his name, but he was working on Friday afternoon 4/17). My go to place at Valley Fair mall when I'm craving ice cream but am a lactose intolerant girly. Somisomi actually serves soft serve, but it's super creamy and almost all flavors are lactose free (they will note on the menu which flavors have lactose). I especially love to try all their seasonal flavors. Right now they have their Sakura Berry flavor and it is amazing! More berry than Sakura, so it's not at all perfume-y. I opted to go with daily swirl option which was Oreo swirled with Sakura Berry and it was the best choice. Tasted like chocolate covered strawberry! I love that you get to add free toppings to their soft serve, including either a strawberry or small macaron to finish it off. I went with Oreo crumbs and a macaron for my cup and it was perfect. Sometimes service can get a little slow when it's busy, but it's always worth the wait. And just a heads up for Valley Fair Mall parking: they changed their parking lot fees so now you only get 1 hour free parking... boo... read more

Honestly this somi somi has no line whereas the one in cupertino always has a line out the door. We got the peach and cookies and cream swirl today. We were kinda worried it wasn't gonna mix well but the two flavours surprisingly worked really well together. The peach was fragrant but not overly sweet and overpowering and the cookies and cream wasn't too sweet either and about the same amount of flavour that together everything was super complimentary. I came here with a friend and my brother to try their Taiyaki with soft serve. We had ordered a Taiyaki with custard filling and an Ube Matcha swirl. We were given a Taiyaki with Nutella filling instead (only a slightly messed up order), but I do think the Nutella didn't go as well with our flavor choices. I liked the ube flavor more than their matcha which was surprising because I love matcha drinks. There was some seating in the area since it's close to some other food spots in the mall. read more
Worse somi somi so many experience ever. I got a soft serve peach ube swirl which flavors are phenomenal. The peach is amazing for a seasonal flavor. However, as you can see, my ice cream is basically melted and I did not get much ice cream. Seems like they did not leave it frozen enough before serving. This is a disappointment because every other location I have gone to has been phenomenal. I hope whoever owns this outpost helps with the quality control. I should have just returned it and not paid for it. read more
This is a great dessert or snack place if you're on the go at the mall. It tends to get busy, so be sure to look for where the actual line starts. As far as the offerings themselves, they all are really good. There is not a flavor that you can go wrong with... But I would be very careful with explaining to them the difference of you wanting Nutella and Oreo. When it comes to Taiyaki, you can't order just one, so you'll choose between 2 or 5 pieces. Last time I was here I got 2 and asked for 1 Nutella and 1 Oreo. The worker told us which was which, when she handed us the individual boxes, but she did not mark it on the box so when we went to find a place to eat it, we unfortunately forgot, which was which. This is a big issue for us as my significant other is allergic to nuts, and Nutella is made out of Hazelnut. I bit into both in the hopes of biting into the first one being Nutella and then knowing for sure that the second would be the Oreo, but I just had a feeling this day and bit into both of them... Which I'm glad I did because they both ended up being Nutella. The soft serve here is also really good. You can get toppings on top of your self serve, and there are three different ways that you can have the soft serve. They do occasionally have swirls here, so pay attention to the mixture for the season. This is a popular spot, so just know that it does get pretty loud and to make sure you go into the actual line as clumps of people do form here as they wait for their order. read more

4/5 - A Korean Soft Serve / Taiyaki chain that is quickly expanding across the Bay Area. This one is the busier one in the Westfield Valley Fair mall (parking is tough and it's SO crowded on weekends and holidays!). Line was modest but moves relatively fast. We got their basic Milk soft serve with oreo + strawberry on top. Super refreshing and hit the spot we needed for a mid-day sugar pick up as we malled! read more
I had ordered an Ube Swirl along with a Matcha soft serve (in a cup). We were in a bit of a hurry and didn't have time to wait for the taiyaki (unfortunately). However the soft serve alone did not disappoint! The flavor of the matcha, the texture, the portion and only for $4.95 a serving.... A win/win! read more

I don't come to this Somi Somi location that often, but just like their other locations, even if their lines look long, they move by quickly ! Something to note is that sometimes their flavors are rotated, and unfortunately there was a soft serve flavor I was hoping to have but wasn't available the weekend I went. The employees are quick and are really just trying to do their job, and their food is very tasty as usual. It is not a sit-down, you just order the food at a counter and find a seat throughout the mall or just eat and walk and shop. The decor is cute though and fits in with the theme of their food. Because this location is within Valley Fair, it closes at 9:00 so if you want to go to one that closes later, visit the location on Main Street ! read more

SOMISOMI was recommended by a friend due to its popularity, and indeed, there was a long line when I visited. Fortunately, the line moved quickly, and I received my order within 10 minutes. I opted for the Banana Milk + Cookies N' Cream soft serve in a cup. The banana milk flavor was distinct, but I was slightly disappointed that the cookies and cream didn't have the cookies mixed throughout the soft serve--instead, they were just sprinkled on top as crumbles. Once the toppings were gone, it felt like I was just eating plain vanilla mixed with banana flavor. Finding seating in the area can be quite challenging as spots are often occupied. It might be best to find a bench elsewhere or simply enjoy your treat while taking a stroll. read more

Located on the second floor of Valley Fair mall, this SomiSomi commands a steady flow of customers in the afternoon. They're so busy that they were out of the ube flavor by 2 pm! The orders are taken and delivered quickly with the exception of the taiyaki (fish shaped mochi waffle cakes) filled with delicious flavors (cheese, custard, red bean, Nutella, Oreo, and taro). The taiyaki take about 15 minutes but not bad considering how busy the place can get. The menu is quite simple. Choose your container (cup, fish shaped waffle cone, or cup with the fish shaped waffle cone on top), filling if you have a cone (it's the filling that goes in the cone), flavor (they typically have flavors and mixings of the day but standard typically include matcha, milk, and ube), and finally the toppings (you can choose whichever and however much you want of the dry toppings which include Oreo crumbs, sprinkles, and other cereals). There aren't a whole lot of seating or tables for you to dine at however to the side of SomiSomi where the line meets, there is a small standing table where you can eat your treat before taking off. Otherwise, you may want to bring some napkins with you as you eat on the go. The staff were friendly and patient despite the crowds. The quality of the food was consistent and maintained their temperature quite well. Parking can be a bit hectic but the mall has its own structure that offers the first two hours of parking for free. Simply park, take the escalators to level two, and walk your way towards the theater (turn left after the escalators if you're coming from the south side) and other eateries to find SomiSomi. Overall, SomiSomi does an excellent job with their soft serve and this location, even though it's located in a mall, is just as good as any other SomiSomi I've visited. read more
One ube and milk, one matcha and milk soft ice swirls. These were okay! At the beginning you feel that you are eating something perfect but then it starts to taste waaaay too sweet. There is filling inside the cone by the way. We choose nutella and which made it even sweeter hahaha. Both of us couldn't finish at all but if you are craving for something sweet and cold, you are at the right place :) read more

I have one of the biggest sweet tooths and I absolutely love ice cream. I actually love soft serve ice cream the most and SomiSomi hits all the notes. I first tried it back in LA's Korea Town many years ago and fell in love with it instantly. Now with more locations and shorter lines, it's easier to get. I love the taiyaki aka the fish cone with milk soft serve. There are days I like getting the swirl either with milk, matcha or ube. I do like pretty much almost all of the flavors but my love is with the milk flavor haha. The staff is very efficient and getting your order out quickly and also making sure your dessert comes out freshly made. I usually love getting the cone filled with custard and then topping my soft serve with strawberries and Fruity Pebbles. It's like a match made in heaven. Plus, the location is great because I can get it after a meal at any of the restaurants inside Westfield Valley Fair or after watching a movie or sometimes even before a movie. A big win all around and cheers with my fish cone up in the air! read more

Very disappointed. At first, she did ask what topping I wanted, and I said "cocoa pebbles." But after that, she just added only that one topping, didn't ask anything else, and immediately handed me the cup. It wasn't even filled properly -- just a small scoop stuck in one corner like in the photo. Normally, the staff would ask if I want to add anything else, and my cup always comes with full toppings like macaron or fruit. I'm not sure if Somi Somi has changed their serving rules, but this time the experience felt rushed and lazy. More importantly, I was really disappointed with her attitude -- cold and dismissive, even though the store wasn't busy. This is the first time I've ever had such a poor experience here. It honestly felt disrespectful as a customer. Definitely not coming back. read more
