Their ice cream is exceptionally creamy and rich, with a generous filling that melts in your mouth, making it incredibly delicious. The breading or fish is notably tender and crispy, offering a perfect contrast in texture. The ordering process is mostly automated, but the staff remains genuinely friendly and efficient, ensuring quick service. The venue is quite small, creating an intimate atmosphere. They also offer a variety of refreshing, well-crafted drinks, and a selection of tasty toppings to customize your order further.

I was unfortunately a bit disappointed in our experience at Somisomi. We got two taiyaki, one custard and one black sesame. The black sesame was okay, but the custard one was way too sweet, and did not taste authentic. The texture of the outside was also quite gummy, almost like mochi, which did not fit the flavor profile. Maybe I came at an off day, but based on that experience I would not return.

Located inside Valley Fair, near Ramen Nagi, Uncle Tetsu, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema area. This spot have always been my go-to since they first open for whenever I craving for a good soft serve. The rotate flavors from time to time, so make sure to check their official Instagram to see which location offer which flavors, my all time favorite is their Milk and Cookies n' Cream. Somisomi's soft serve is creamy and quite strong on milky taste. Their taiyaki (fish shaped waffle) is also very good, it does have a good crunchy texture on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, with the perfect amount of sweetness and nice fragrant smell. So, I do recommend their Ahboong or Upside Down Ahboong for first timer, you cannot goes wrong with their Custard or Nutella filling. But this time, they released a brand new taiyaki's flavor: Dubai Chocolate and it was so good that I came back twice in the same weekend. This flavor was more expensive, I got 2 for almost $10 meanwhile 2 regular taiyakis was for $4.95 but it was worth it in my opinion. My taiyaki came out piping hot, the curnchy kataifi added so much texture to each bite and I was really happy to finish my taiyaki in one sitting. I thought I have to wait for long but there was no one in line during my visit at 6:30PM on a Friday night (shocking), staffs were attentive and quick with making my order, the taiyaki was ready in about 5-7 minutes. I think I will be a regular here if Somisomi will keep Dubai Choco Taiyaki on their permanent menu lol, finger crossed!!

The sakura berry continues to hit regardless of which somi somi i go to. It was pretty empty on a tuesday, which is to be expected but the flavor is consistent and I love it. I got the fish with a black sesame filling and it was such a nice combo with the ice cream

We hot some icecream and taiyaki because my friend really wanted to try them out. The server was not very friendly and seemed annoyed. Took a while for our orders when there wasn't anyone before us. The ice cream was fine, taiyaki was good. Of all Somisomi locations I think this was the worst. Hoping for better service next time.

We love SomiSomi! The matcha flavor with Nutella filling is such a good sweet treat. It's the perfect size when you want something dessert-like but not too much.

Julia B.

Service was super quick, location is convenient, and the dessert is delicious. I ordered nutella inside the waffle, with matcha and ube swirl ice cream and fruity pebbles on top. The ice cream flavor tastes and looks genuine, unlike other ice creams that have fake dye and flavoring. The nutella-filled waffle was the best part; I love how the waffle is thin and crisp.

Somisomi is a local chain that sells fish-shaped pastries that you can buy with a filling of your choice (Nutella, custard, sweet bean, among others) along with soft serve ice cream. On a recent visit, my husband got ube soft serve and I got strawberry soft serve. We each got a pastry topping filled with Nutella. They were delicious!

Taiyakis were excellent and had great crispy outsides, while maintaining a chewy interior. The newer black sesame flavor was so good! Next time I'll need a couple of those. I also enjoyed the usuals like custard and red bean. They were filled pretty well. The soft serve was nice and creamy, as well as flavorful too. Not sure if eating it in the mall made a difference but I've always found somi somi soft serve to be a bit more mellow and lacking in flavor (good creamy texture but weak in taste) but on this try I had the strawberry and could taste it loud and clear! It was very delicious and smooth. Creamy and flavorful! Very strawberry-y. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. Very nice.

Got two taiyakis and was pleasantly surprised they had some fun flavors - hotteok (a brown sugar cinnamon nut mixture) and a black sesame one. They were made fresh and well cooked on the inside. My only wish was their filling was more generous but alas! The hotteok is a seasonal flavor and I really hope it becomes a staple because it's better than the custard / red bean flavor (also classics).

Service was good and friendly. The review is for the ice cream. Taste more like vanilla, very light but taste at best.

Upside down ahboong
Janine F.

Somisomi always hits the spot! I got an upside down ahboong. I got the cookies and cream and matcha swirl with Nutella as my filling and Oreo crumbs as the topping. All the flavors together worked so well and it wasn't too sweet at all. I felt so bad since there was only one worker at the time, but she handled the line like a boss! Love love love!

The bingsoo was delicious and not too sweet, loaded with fresh strawberries and a big cheesecake wedge. It's especially great for a hot summer day. The portion size was good to share between two people. The toast was yummy but does have a sweeter taste profile due to the honey drizzle on top. Overall a great experience! We got the red bean and the strawberry flavors - the portions were very large for a bay-area reasonable price of less than $15 item. It was my first visit and honestly, I was a bit disappointed; while there were lots of fresh fruits, I found the flavor bland and not sweet enough - which may be someone's jam? I wished it had more condensed milk to give it a more creamy flavor. The shaved ice was beautiful and fluffy - i'd say this is the main draw that may bring me back to try new flavors. There is plenty of seating inside for tables of two or even small groups. Parking can be difficult since many popular establishments are in the same strip mall so plan ahead for parking time.

I chose to do a DIY regular taco with s'mores ice cream, peanut butter dip, and oreo toppings. The flavors mixed so well together! None of it was overpowering the other, so you're able to enjoy each bite and not feel overloaded by the end. They freeze dry the taco as well so it doesn't melt right away once it hits your hands. This is the perfect place to grab a sweet treat on any occasion! BIG heads up though, it can get extremely busy especially on a weekend (was here on a Sunday evening). I think we went on a day where they might've been short a few people, but we did wait over an hour for our order. From my observations there is a process for the tacos. They have to mold the ice cream in, then keep it in the freezer for a few minutes for it to hold its shape, and customize it after. If you're willing to wait that long for ice cream then I'd say this place is definitely worth it.

We got a leek quiche, a banana latte, spinach, artichoke danish, mango croissant, almond croissant, and a ham and cheese croissant. I was trying to increase the protein to not spike my blood sugar. Lol. I'd have to say the mango and the almond croissant were probably my favorite. The strong second would definitely be the artichoke and spinach croissant danish thing. Sorry, I forgot what they called it. They offered to heat it up a bit and I definitely recommend this. They did the perfect temperature for the perfect timing. Just enough to make the outside flaky and the inside warm and soft. The pieces that had cheeses were so much better warmed up. They definitely know what they're doing there. Seating was great. I'd love the decor. You can also order off of a menu, but we were too enamored with the actual pastries to even glance at it. I took photos but made sure to not take photos of the staff. I let the staff know that I wouldn't include their faces without their permission. they were very friendly and very appreciative. This time I decided to stop by here after dinner, my first time sitting down here and ordering. The inside is very clean, modern, and Pinterest-like. They added more decorations and seating from 2 years ago, making the inside more aesthetic. whaT's More always has unique Asian flavors, like durian, earl grey, pandan, red bean, and oolong. The cakes are not too sweet, so definitely Asian parent approved haha! Unfortunately, when we came around 6:30pm, they were sold out of most flavors - so would definitely recommend coming earlier or just ordering online earlier in the morning for pickup. We got the sesame dark chocolate crepe cake. When you eat in the store, the owner provides you with free cups of tea, which are really great for washing down the cake. The chocolate was super rich, and they did not skimp out on the flavor - super chocolatey. The sesame added such a fun earthy and nutty flavor - I thoroughly enjoyed it! The cake is on the slightly denser side, so was super filling. While on the pricier side, the flavors are super unique and the craft that goes into crepe cakes is commendable. I will be ordering my next cake from here again!

The place was situated in a quiet plaza just outside of Lawrence Expressway. There's ample parking but it doesn't feel like the location is suitable for a cafe where you can picture sitting inside looking through some big windows facing a busy pedestrian walkway. However, once I stepped inside, I was surprised at how zen and peaceful the decorations were and how fitting it was for a cozy and quiet cafe hangout. The cake shelf was surprisingly busy. And this is where I took one star out because the lines were confusing and the staff skipped me to talk to the group behind me while I was clearly the next to be helped. Luckily another staff member came out from the back kitchen and jumped in to help. The staff spoke fluent mandarin. I was interested in their box cakes. A few of the yelpers raved about their soy milk cake and luckily they had one out for sampling. It was covered with lots of cream and the cake layer was soft and moist, but it was still slightly too sweet for me and I felt that it lacked the tofu kind of soy flavor. Then, I spotted on their menu that they have a black sesame matcha box cake, and black sesame is always my favorite, so I asked for it. They had the last one left! The staff said she had never tried it so she couldn't tell me if it is less sweet than the soy milk cake. Since it was the last one available and I already sampled the soy cake, I decided to give it a try. I am happy that I did. The cake was filled with matcha mousse and tasted light and aromatic with the jasmine kind of matcha flavor. It is definitely less sweet. Unfortunately, it doesn't have as much black sesame as I'd like. But overall, the cake flavor is the kind that I like, subtle, moist, and not too sweet. $38 for a box cake of 4x4 is a bit pricey, but I'm glad that I gave it a try. The cakes were freshly made and tasted best the same day of purchase. They also recommend refrigerating the cake and consuming it within a day or two.
