I came to the plaza for lunch and as soon as I pulled in and saw Beard Papa's, I knew that cream puffs will be my dessert for the day. I've been wanting to try their cream puffs for years now and this was finally my chance! My boyfriend and I got a box of 6 with 3 original with vanilla, 1 chocolate coated with vanilla, 1 chocolate coated with chocolate and 1 creme brulee with vanilla. I was soooooo excited for the creme brulee since the picture had a torched sugar top, but once we got home, we realized they didn't put it in the box and instead gave us 4 original vanillas which is why I'm giving them -1 star. I was actually super bummed about that, but the delicious cream puffs helped to subside my sadness. The original with vanilla filling is far superior than the chocolate, both shell and filling. I feel like the coated shell takes away from the crispy exterior of the cream puff so you must get the original! Hoping next time I'll have another chance to try their creme brulee one since I didn't get to this time. Choosing a favorite is difficult because they were all so sweet and tasty, but I would go with chocolate. My only quibble is too much filling relative to dough: Each bite inevitably added another splatter of chocolate, green tea, and vanilla filling to the emerging art piece on my face. I used to be a HUGE fan of Beard Papa's when I had it for the very first time in Japan years ago...then when I found it in the states, it somehow just didn't taste as good as it did the very first time. Over the years, people have always raved about their cream puffs but I just never was able to find them as amazing as others do. Still, I have kids now and they love these things...so we occasionally will visit and get a treat LOL. This past visit was the worst I've ever had - one worker was in the back (doing I don't know what), one worker was working to fulfill the actual orders, and the 3rd worker was just walking around appearing "busy working" (but not sure what). Parking is usually easy to find but it can get pretty crowded. We went on Saturday and there was quite a long line outside their store but it went by pretty quick. They have different flavors of shells and fillings that you can choose. They also have other special desserts that looked delicious as well. I like to go basic and get their original cream puffs. If you buy 6, you get $1off which is a good deal. You can also get them by the dozen. Once you order you just wait on the side and they pack it up for you within a few minutes. I've also tried Green Tea and Chocolate, which are good, but I'm more of an OG girl ;) I usually also pair the original cream with the regular puff, but this time I tried it with the oreo cookies n cream crumble, which was sweet and delicious. They really fill up the puffs with the cream so it can sometimes be a little messy to eat. My favorite part about Beard Papa's is the endless options you have with the ability to customize both the eclair shell and the filling. The fillings include vanilla, chocolate, matcha, and a seasonal flavor (currently Oreo). All the cream puffs are $4 with any filling other than the original shell which is $3.60. I went for 2 cream puffs- a honey butter shell with a matcha filling and a green tea shell with vanilla filling. The actual pastry is light, fluffy, and indulgent and pairs extremely well with the sweet, thick filling. The service is incredibly fast as the shells are filled right as you order. They also make sure to do a great job of completely filling the shell with filling. I would highly recommend the honey butter shell- the carmelized sugar across the shell is so satisfying. I ended up saving my green tea puff for the next day and it was perfectly delicious and intact after being at room temperature for 5 minutes.
