I was told that Louisville is known for its Hot Brown--I thought that was a slang term for unspeakable things that high schoolers do to each other (I might be confusing it with a Cleveland steamer). Too many towns present their own takes on pizza. Detroit-style pizza is great. NY-style pizza is great. St Louis-style pizza is shocking and horrifying. A local classic! We go to the one by Bowman field. Grab a box and go and watch planes take off and land. The sauce is great. Not too sweet as other pizza joints seem to be doing now. Toppings are fresh and plentiful. Crust is delicious and they will make it thinner if you ask. This is also the only pizza in town that is great cold! Right out of the fridge! read more

A classic Louisville pizza spot (well, spots, I suppose, there are--happily--several locations...the one by Bowman Field is my usual). Pizza is great: it's an almost crackery crust, but not quite, giving it a unique, crispy bite that still has a little pleasant chew to it; plenty of toppings to choose from (and they're not stingy with them!); sauce is tasty, slightly sweet in a good way). There are other options too, some sandwiches and pastas (fond of the breadsticks--basically the pizza crust, dusted with some seasoning, pizza sauce and garlic butter for dipping; my daughter loves the baked spaghetti...she tends to have good taste!). Staff is always friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere is about as casual as can be (not divey, mind you, just super laid back). Been here only a few times in the past few years but, right around Christmas 2022 was when my friend and I made our way here since the pandemic. I know a very long time. This Bearno's is located off Taylorsville Road near the famous Bowman Field Airport. Traffic is busy in this area and parking is quite small and so is the inside of this restaurant. That's ok though, I do like small and cozy. My friend loves the Mama Bearno and I either go with meats or just Pepperoni. We did also order cheesy bread this visit as well. I like how the pizza is always cooked perfectly and the crust has the right crunch to it. I have yet to try their pastas. Service is always great here and depending on how busy they are, you may have a bit of a wait but, it is worth it. And just like their motto "Yeah it's that good". read more

To celebrate my husband's elementary school reunion, we had good pizza and cocktails with a group of about 15 others at the Jtown location. We were seated in the back room with one long table and a couple of smaller ones. Service was friendly and reliable. We never felt rushed or had to wait long for our order. For beer lovers, there's a beer wall in the front of the restaurant where you can try a wide variety of beers and only pay by the ounce. Unlike a typical buffet, this means that the bracelet can be used just as easily by someone who wants just one drink as by someone who wants to sample every beer they have to offer. In recent years, most Bearno's have either been a hit or a bad miss. I'm happy that this one was one of the former. read more

Just finished another Bearno's Pizza. Cudos. We generally phone in our order and pick up. They were very covid conscious, and brought the pizza outside. Thank you. The best news was that the pizza rocked. Perfect crust. Just the right amount of cheese, and everything just as we like it. Yum! Last week, we detoured to another pizza place, and , from time to time, I am sure we will again. But Bearno's won this round hands down. This is my favorite pizza place in Louisville. They have been a Louisville Landmark for many years. The pizza is made just right with the perfect amount of everything. Some pizza places use to much or not enough, but Bearno's uses the perfect combo of sauce and cheese. They also have specials on line you can use to save a little. I always order the super large pepperoni on line special and pick it up. The pizza is usually ready in 25 to 30 minutes. The people that work there are always nice. All the years I have been ordering Bearno's, I cannot think of a time they messed the order up or it was inconsistent. They always create a great product that closely resembles the one you had before for the same thing. Bearno's offers beer, sit inside if you wish. Order on line or call them. I have ordered just about everything on the menu including Lasagna, Spaghetti and meatballs, cheese bread and sticks, I 've had salads too. Everything I have had was very good. Ordered a sub sandwich. which was to have ham, pepperoni and salami. I counted three pieces of pepperoni and never did find the salami. This was the worst sub I have ever had. There was absolutely no taste. The side salad was just as bad. Lettuce was tough, tomato was had definitely been the refrigerator way too long and the blue cheese dressing had been watered down. When I call manager stated that next time I should order extra meat.......great customer service..... what a joke!. The whole meal was tasteless. The girl that took my order was nice. We went for lunch because it was convenient and ordered pizza from the lunch menu. The pizzas were similar to small frozen pizzas you would get from the store. I am still not sure what Louisville style pizza is since the lunch menu seems different than the normal menu. Also service was really slow so be prepared for that. read more

Went and had a great dinner here the other night. Our server showed up with a sandwich my date didnt order and said she was sorry but she had accidentally put in the wrong thing so he got two sandwiches! We had food for days! While I have always loved Bearnos pizza, ai have come to realize it is really hit or miss with them, and here lately it's been more of a miss. Working in the area for the past few weeks, I thought how nice it would be to grab a pizza on the go. It was easy ordering online and the pick up process was rather quick. However, the first pizza I order was burnt around the edges. So today, I thought I would give them another try. I even ordered the chicken to see how it was. So the chicken taste like frozen Tyson tenders I could buy at Kroger. No actually Tyson tastes better. On the other hand, my pizza was actually pretty decent today. Their All meat pizza is so heavy with meat you need a knife and fork. It's easily an inch and a half thick. The Mama Bearnos is almost as heavily laden with goodness but includes some veggies ( think supreme pizza) and has a little spiciness to it. If you gotta have a more "regular" pizza go for a cheese or pepperoni. They are both great and tasty. read more

I've driven past this location many times. I decided to stop in today for lunch. I came in around noon and there wasn't a crowd. There was plenty of tables and booths open. The decor kind of reminded me of Pizza Hut in the 1980s. I was quickly approached by a server who took my drink order. I asked for water with no lemon. I received water with lemon. That was disappointing, but not a deal killer. I ordered a pizza hoagie. It came with a pickle and a bag of chips. The hoagie was a good size. I wasn't expecting so many olives. That made it taste a bit briny, but it was still good. There was a delay in getting orders out because apparently a large order of pizzas came in. I have to give Bearno's 5 stars. In all the years we've been visiting the original location, they are consistently delicious and we my family craves it. In a world full of pizza, that's tough to say. We aren't overly adventurous but at Bearno's you certainly could be. I've seen pizzas with so many toppings that I am convinced the families had to call ahead 3 hours before they arrived to give it sufficient cooking time! My kids love cheese, I love pepperoni and we enjoy our pizza. Our family is also a fan of the breadsticks. No other restaurant has anything like them. They don't look like much - flat bread with parm cheese and other stuff that looks like bird seed. But they are delicious! and come with melted butter and marina. COVID Carry-Out The Bowman Field Bearnos is no doubt our favorite whether eating in or carrying out. Today, the first post-Lent Friday, what better way to celebrate freedom from Fish than to get a sausage pizza. The online app is simple. Bearnos is doing the curbside thing as no windows are available. We placed our order and quoted 20 minutes. Online credit payment eliminates any unnecessary close in transactions. I drove over and pulled up in a spot right by the door. One other vehicle next to me. A worker came out and asked the name, maintaining the 6 foot distancing. She was in and right back out with a salad, cheese sticks and a large half cheese half sausage. Once home the salad was fresh and par for the course as were the cheese sticks. Now the pizza was birdie or eagle. One in our party generally likes light sausage, but forgot to state that on the order. Somebody in the kitchen obviously reverse karma-ed on that and it was super sausage. No problem here. The light sausage person was able to remove the overage. Bearno's has made the adjustment to these risky times. Online ordering easy, pick-up quick. Pizza is a good take-home deal, not so much an en route kinda feeding when behind the wheel. Not that it couldn't be done but the post drive cleanup not a fun task. Wash your hands, wear your mask, keep your distance, look down the road on the other side of these odd times and do what you can to help our local food treasures. read more

In town for a volleyball tournament and organized a team dinner (about 25 people) at Bearno's. Spoke to Rob earlier in the week and he was sure to keep enough staff on hand to accommodate as we planned to be in about an hour before closing time. Everything worked out perfectly. The staff was friendly and attentive to the entire group. Drinks and appetizers came out quickly as well as dinner. The pizza was fantastic and others had the lasagna, and chicken parm as well and all were pleased with their dinners. Would absolutely come back next time we're in the area. Their pizza is not to my taste. It is cheesy and the sauce is fine - good ratio between sauce and cheese. But I like a chewy, thick, soft and moist crust. Their crust is dry and thin, not much of a crust rim around the edge of the pizza pie. read more

I live very close to this Bearno's location and get food to go often. Sometimes I find myself ordering a large cheesy bread instead of the pizza because I love it so much (there have never been any complaints by others). Not only is the cheese amazing, but the marinara is the perfect consistency and doesn't taste or look like he came from a can like other places. Recently, I opted for the meatball sub instead and it did NOT disappoint. I find myself thinking about it a lot. My only complaint is I wish there was a bar to sit at. read more
