Pork steak, pork belly burnt ends, potato salad, cheddar mac and cheess

For 10 years, I have seen a BBQ joint in Belleville, IL on Top 100 BBQ restaurants. I thought it was odd that it would be in Illinois but 17th Street BBQ in Murphysboro passed the test so let's see how Beast stacked up. I went with the 2 meat plate with pork steak, the Saturday special of pork belly burnt ends, potato salad, and cheddar mac and cheese. The flavor on the pork steak was superb with the mix of BBQ and steak. The pork belly bites overall were good but both meats suffered from the same flaws. I love BBQ and meat that just melts in my mouth. Both of these meats achieved that but there was also the other spectrum. There were moments where the meat gave my jaw a workout especially the burnt ends. I realize burnt ends are suppose to have that contrast and it might be a preference for me. But something else would be trying to cut it with plastic ware. Anyway, the highs of the meat surpassed the lows. The cheddar mac and cheese was the better of the two sides. It was superb and I highly recommend it. The potato salad was the baked potato variety. It was good but it seemed like it needed more of the conglomeration added to it to smooth out the overly potato taste. The best part of the meal were the sauces! They were leg-end-ary! The vinegar, Texas Chainsaw ( peppery), and Spicy Mustard would be among the best sauces I have had. The Standard was all right for a mild sauce. I was pleasantly surprised to see sweet tea that got the job done with my BBQ! I want to come back by and try more of Beast's BBQ!

The name says it all -- Beast. Because this BBQ goes hard. We ordered a mix of ribs, brisket, wings, and sides and honestly? Every single bite delivered. The brisket was juicy and smoky with a beautiful bark. The ribs had a sticky-sweet glaze with a little heat that made them fall in the "don't talk to me, I'm busy eating" category. The wings were solid too, but the sides? Stars in their own right. The mac & cheese was creamy and topped with golden crumbs, and the Brussels sprouts were crispy with bits of pork that sent them straight to flavor heaven. The potato salad and baked beans were also strong players on the tray. The vibe is casual and cool -- think metal + wood + butcher-style chalk art on the walls. Fast, friendly service and plenty of seating made it a comfortable spot to linger. Pro tip: Don't sleep on the sauce lineup -- try them all. You'll find your favorite. Some of the best BBQ I've ever had! I got the pulled pork sandwich and my mom got the brisket grilled cheese. We were both speechless because of how good it was. Price was a little high but for the quality and portion size it was definitely worth it. The Mac and cheese was breathtakingly good... service was fantastic with good recommendations and our food came out within 5 minutes of us sitting down. Classic interior with all the sports games you need at the bar!

The sides had no flavor. The Mac and cheese was bland and the baked beans were ok but could have been better. My meal shown was just over $20. For that price I would have expected a little more brisket. It's safe to say that I will. It be going back for another meal.

While on vacation in St. Louis, we were searching for a great BBQ spot and Beast Craft BBQ Co. came highly recommended--so we made the 40-minute drive, and we're glad we did! The brisket sandwich was excellent, served on a flavorful bun with a fresh coleslaw topping. The fries were also a hit. We tried the pulled pork served on a tortilla, along with the sausage, pit beans, and more fries. The pit beans were especially tasty and full of flavor. One standout was the grilled cheese brisket sandwich--rich, cheesy, and satisfying. We also ordered the rib tips, which were good, though the ribs themselves were a bit tough and had more fat than we preferred. Overall, everything tasted great, and the staff was friendly and helpful throughout our visit.

Real deal. That is all I have to say. This was my first time at the belleville location. I was bummed when they shut down the location in the grove as it was a regular spot I hit. In any case, the flagship location is incredible as expected. The interior has 2 primary dining areas. 1 half is small with a traditional bbq joint feel, and the other half has stools and a counter similar to a diner. I thought that was pretty cool. The food was superb. The brisket was fatty, salty, peppery, juicy. Cooked to absolute perfection. Tender and bursting with flavor. The fries are crispy, salty. Amazing. The seasoning they have on them is amazing. Oh, and their fry sauce is tangy perfection. The slaw is great. A pretty traditional slaw with a bit of mustard and vinegar behind a mayo base. Additionally, the tortillas they serve their plates with are so addictive. They crisp them up and it is amazing. The service was great also. The place was jumping for lunch, but they had ample staff to tackle the rush and keep the systems running smooth. I wish they still had the grove location because the belleville location is a small road trip for me, but well worth it.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but one of the best bbq spots in America is in Belleville, Illinois! This place is amazing, truly one of the best bbq I've ever had, and I've been all over the US. It's a small restaurant, with a small dining area, and a small parking lot. Make the trip and try it for yourself, you'll be surprised.

Just go here. We were greeted immediately when we walked in and were treated kindly the entire time. Split a 3 meat platter of ribs, wings, and pulled pork. Just fantastic. Everything was tender and flavorful, paired with great sauces. The place isn't large but it's not cramped.

Just a tacky overpriced low class hot mess. I don't care how good it smells or how big the pit is, it's not worth it. This is what a money dog looks like, $15 for this crap at Octoberfest, the bread was old and hard. The first order was nothing but fat, not edible, so I took it back. They gave me another order no bread. So disappointed.

Possibly the best Barbecue I have ever had and I have had Barbecue from Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis and throughout Texas. The pork steaks are unbelievable. I insulted the waitress by asking for a knife. She told me I wouldn't need one and she was right. Also the Brussels Sprouts were amazing. You must try them even if you have never liked Brussels Sprouts. read more

Place is amazing!!! My brother lives out of town and I needed somewhere unique to eat. So we thought we would treat him to some good BBQ! His family and him loved it! He has a very busy life and literally travels around the world. So when I went to visit him in Michigan several months later his whole family kept talking about how good the candy bacon and pork was! This BBQ is definitely the best I've come across in this area! We discovered it when we went to the Belleville Oktoberfest and they had a stand set up. Its the perfect place to either pick it up for take out or to sit in and enjoy. It's got local soda, which I absolutely love. The staff is friendly and the food is amazing. read more

Expensive and really not that good!!!! Brussels sprouts were ok but not the hype in the reviews. The ribs really had no flavor at all. The service was not friendly. There are way too many places that are so much better in the area. I will not be going back. read more

Our favorite restaurant in the area! Always great food. Love the pork steak, fry sauce that I could drink and Brussel sprouts. Sides are just as good as the BBQ here. My family loves the candied bacon as well. Great local beers that you can't find anywhere else. Try the Lizard beer and Banana bread beer! read more

Love their BBQ. The Brussels sprouts and candied bacon are to die for. It is a very small restaurant so it does become crowded but worth it. They offer a different menu each day so make sure to check out their Facebook page to see what they have to offer everyday. They also run out of food pretty quickly so get there early. It is the only BBQ place I have found that is consistently great. And there's nowhere else that you can get meat with two sides of meat. It's definitely a carnivore's dream. read more

As a southern BBQ lover I have a a soft spot for vinegar based whole hog BBQ but Beast ranks high on my list for both experience and taste. When you first walk in and to the right you are confronted with a menu board printed on craft paper that gets covered up with sold out signs as the day progresses. I got the 1/4 lb meat combo with ribs and brisket. I also had sides of candied bacon (you read that right, I had a side of meat!!) and the fries. I wasn't impressed with the fries compared to the rest of the meal but my friend had the smokehouse mac n' cheese and it was wonderful. They also have a full variety of excel sodas on tap. The grapefruit flavored rummy is my favorite! I really don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu! read more

Tried it again. This time had the pastrami. Really good flavor! The pork steak was good as well!! Sweet potato fries are awesome. But as with all good BBQ places, go early because they will sell out of certain things. THIS IS A GOOD THING!! You know your food is fresh!! read more

What to say about Beast Craft...Well, the food is incredible! Their Spring Salad, which has delicious candied bacon sprinkled all over it mind you, is the best Salad I have ever had! The Pork Steak is a beast and absolutely cooked to perfection! Their Chicken is tender and juicy and never dried out! And, can you believe it, they have BBQ Brisket! All Super Delicious Treats! My wife and I ate here today on a whim and I'm glad we did. We both had pulled pork sandwich plus several sides. The Pork sandwich was tender and succulent served with coleslaw and pickles. The Brussel sprouts side order was one of the most unique renditions of this veggie I ever had the pleasure to eat. The other sides, grilled potato salad and pit baked beans were excellent as well. We haven't had barbecue in a while and this was so good we are thinking of going back tomorrow but since it's Father's Day will have to wait-and-see. read more

Simple AMAZING! I ordered the Duroc Pork Steak, the Wagyu Brisket and the Bacon Mac, what a meal! The waitress brought me a fork but no knife. I decided to try to cut the pork steak before asking for one... the waitress knew... it fell apart nicely and tasted unbelievably delicious. Highly recommended, you won't regret it!!! read more

I can't even think of a word to describe how amazing this place is. I had the ipa pork stacker with Brussels sprouts. SO good. My fiancé had the pork steak and potato salad and slaw. His didn't disappoint neither. If you want the pork steak then make sure you get their early. They sold out about 10 minutes after we ordered. The food also comes out super fast so if you're hungry and don't want to wait long for food then I highly suggest coming here. The service was amazing as well. We will definitely be back and also considering them to cater our rehearsal dinner in October. read more

Love the snoots and pork steak. My wife loves the pulled pork and candied bacon. They do fun specials like BBQ nachos and the insane but delectable Krispy Daddy (pulled pork, keilbasa, candied bacon, all sandwiched between TWO Krispy Kreme glazed donuts!). Great sides, like pork belly Brussels sprouts (which I think could be improved with a splash of balsamic), 2 ounces of any meat you like, fresh cut fries. Ribs and pork steak are fall of the bone, no knife required, and juicy as can be. The place is a bit small so seating can be limited during rushes. The staff are great, very friendly and encourage feedback. They respond to Facebook messages and really care about their food and customers. Like any good BBQ joint they run out of certain items from time to time, so go in early if you can. They don't have a freezer or a microwave in the building, their food is that fresh! They don't offer the typical coke or Pepsi on their self serve soda fountain, but Excel brands like Ski. They also have Kaldi's iced tea. read more

Unquestionable "Top Five" BBQ Joins in metro area. So far,,ribs, brisket, porksteak .Man oh Man this is great stuff. I make the drive from STL monthly head over to this place. I have eliminated two saint louis BBQ joints from my list of "in the mood for que". Saturday and sunday leftovers,..pork steak with cole slaw and brus sprouts ..you kidding me right, Wrong! BEST MEAL THIS MONTH..Top 5 and moving..sauce on the side is a bit sweet for my taste, but the three items to date, ribs, brisket, porksteak..makes this a top 5 BBQ..no doubt!, no question. Great find on a Saturday afternoon erronds. We wanted a nice place to grab lunch and BAM the Beast appeared! The pork belly was amazing and the ribs my wife had were also great. The while experience was AWESOME... the ordering, seating process to the wait staff. We will definitely back. Great BBQ! I'm telling you, you can't go wrong here. Like most good bbq places you eat it's sit where you find a table. I loved the burnt ends, nice chat with amazing flavor. Craft sodas, and of course the best of all time ski! The only knock I would give this place is I couldn't find a sauce that I really liked. I mixed the standard and the Texas chainsaw which was pretty good. read more

Good price, great BBQ. The three BBQ sauces are a good thick variety, it would he nice if they also had a vinegar based sauce(Carolina style). We had the corn cucumber salad, it wasn't good, but wasn't bad either. Loved their broccolini. The kids meals had good sized portion, but they didn't offer brisket in a kids portion which would have made my kids happier than the sloppy Jeb, or 2 ribs. Server was great and everything was cooked good with lots of flavor, I can see why they got the title of best BBQ joint in the st.louis area. They were a bit crowded and I was hoping for more sauce selection. read more

I've been very excited for this place to open, and couldn't be happier with the results. All the meats are great, and the sides are incredible. Can't get enough of the Brussels sprouts and pork belly, as well as the kale. My fiancé and I share the "well fed beast" meal, and we both eat for $15, not bad. Doesn't hurt that they source locally and you can feel good about it. read more

Being from out of town, we found this joint on yelp, and decided to try it out. Heather was amazing from the moment we came into the restaurant. She gave great recommendations for the two of us to share, and continued to provide great service our entire visit. We ordered each got a side, and the recommended candied bacon, burnt ends, and pork steak. Everything was so great. We bought some of the house made BBQ sauce to take back home as well. Wish we could take this joint home with us. Highly recommended. read more

Just opened this week. The owners have done some exceptional work to the existing place. The interior and exterior have been transformed into the perfect combination of comfort family owned location with a touch of class. Enough about the aesthetics, now the food. As mentioned before, they just opened and therefore the menu is still in flex. This does not mean that it is limited! The food was very tasty and the portions were appropriate. The clincher is the crafted side items and condiments. The side items include everything that you would expect at a BBQ place to some more elegant selections. All were delicious, homemade and had a unique up scale twist. Do not expect the norm; instead expect a tasteful enhancements to the norm. Even the Ketchup and BBQ Sauce are made from scratch. Lastly, their dedication to being local. Everything from their produce, and ingredients to the soda, and beer are crafted or produced from the local area. My first trip was Easter Sunday. We had the Ribs, Smoky Bacon Mac, Pit Beans and Candied Bacon. I figure if they get the ribs right then everything else has to be good. The ribs were excellent, with plenty of 3 different types of extra bbq sauce on the table. The meat was tender and pretty much fell off the bone. The Smoky Bacon Mac was really good. I'm not into various flavors but I did enjoy it. The Pit Beans were smoky, a tiny bit spicy and very enjoyable. Candied Bacon?? What can I say? Not too sweet, but a great treat. Who don't like Bacon. The employees were friendly and helpful. The place seemed clean, with people cleaning various areas during our stay. (no, they didn't get in the way) I can't say that The beast is the best since I haven't been to all the others. I will go back for sure. It certainly set the mark high. read more

Came in with the family to check out this spot. The person greeting us at the door was very friendly and patient while we ordered our food . Once we were able to finally make a selection. We placed our order and selected a table to sit down out. The restaurant was very clean. Was not too crowded. Not a huge restaurant, you get almost a diner feel on one side of the house. Our food arrived very quickly, and looked absolutely delicious. We ordered a few things off the menu. Only in part that we wanted to share and try everything. The ribs were absolutely delicious. The candied bacon was a fan favorite at our table. The turkey was very flavorful. It paired very well with their BBQ sauce. The chicken wings were fantastic!! Excellent food, great options on sides. Its counter service, but the staff are friendly and efficient. I had the Well Fed Beast, which had kielbasa, brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. The portions were a decent amount & the pulled pork was very tender. I enjoyed the brisket quite a bit, it just melted in my mouth. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich with fries.
