Beaucoup has changed hands since opening many years ago. Since then, the quality has significantly declined while prices have increased. No longer are the croissants buttery and flakey. I gave this location another try after being disappointed a year ago. I can't say I was impressed. This was the amount of chocolate inside the pain au chocolate. It's hard to imagine the founder would be proud of what this bakery has become. Cutting corners on the simple ingredients is sad and an epic fail.
We're fortunate to have this French-style bakery right in the neighborhood. Their pastries look flaky, buttery, and the kind of treats that make an occasion feel special. Prices are a little higher than your average bakery as you see from the photos, I'm not entirely sure if all the ingredients are specialty or more conventional. It may not be an everyday stop, but it definitely adds a little French flair to the neighborhood.
Small French bakery cafe set up on Fir St in the area going under the bridge to Granville Island. Limited seating options. Only about 4 tables and one long banquet bench. There are fairly high concrete steps from the front door to the inside of the cafe. Not easily accessible. Selection of French croissants and fusion Asian flavours. They have some sliced dessert cakes that look interesting. Standard coffee and tea bar. Croissants were buttery but a little dense. Overall a quick sit or takeout bakery in the area.
We went here on a Saturday afternoon and it was popping. There are a few tables to enjoy dine in, so we settled in 1 and tried the chocolate almond croissant and a chai latte. The croissant was so good - it was a bit sweet inside, but the almond and chocolate flavors were fantastic. The outer layer is so crispy and buttery, and it has a nice crispy taste for some parts. So many pastry places in the area don't have croissants that are buttery and flaky, so I am glad this place is able to distinguish themselves for that. The chai latte is well spiced and a little sweet, with cinnamon on top. They gave us an extra small cup as they prepared extra, which is a nice touch of them.
Oh my GOSH the food here is AMAZING. I got the Pepperoni Scroll and mom got the Ham and Cheese Scroll. First off, these are *very* big and I felt like it matched the price point just fine. But they tasted so good!! The croissant style roll was incredibly soft and had that delicious buttery flavor mingling with the cheese and pepperoni and red pepper flakes. I devoured mine so fast. Mom loved hers as well. This was our first time here but we'll definitely be back, maybe to get the same thing and maybe try some other stuff as well :) Also I'm not sure what it would do to the texture but heating one of these up in the microwave for a few seconds would probably taste amazing too. Super fresh and super delicious. 10/10 highly recommend.
3.5 stars I had. Pistachio raspberry cake $9.95 Thai tea banana cake $9.95 Iced Latte The cakes were beautiful, looked delish and had right amount of sweetness. However, I got faint almost not there Thai Tea aroma and taste of banana. The pistachio cake was ok and not much taste of pistachio. Overall the cakes were disappointed. The ice latte was very good and rich.
We had a pistachio cake, a thai tea banana cake, and a glass of latte. The thai tea cake lack or aroma. (2 out of 5). I could not tell that it was made with thai tea and banana. The coffee latte is good. (5 out of 5) Street parking. I parked on the next black up the street which is a metered parking. Walking less than 100 ft to the store and the street in front of the store is free parking. Just FYI. The service is fast and professional. There are a few small tables for seating. Free WiFi.
The OG location, why did it take me so long to write a review? Everytime I come to this location, the one challenge is finding parking, but if you have enough will to say..... you are going to come here, you will eventually find it, and there is a few spots on the block. Once you are in, and usually there is another line up.... to order your stuff, this isn't a regular coffee joint with a few pastries, this is Beaucoup where any pastry you order will probably put you back into that lineup... to order more for any friend/loved one.. if you care.. or for yourself for later. I have seen in firsthand with people I bring here, even ordering things that they wouldn't normally order... caused they looked good in the display window.... and tasted better when eating the delectible delight. There are a few inside seats here, in a charming little shop, with bright walls, a high ceiling, and a big coffee bar at the centre of the spot. The coffee beans of choice in this place is 49th Parrallel.. and they do know how to make this coffee go down smooth. There is also seating outside the shop, in an interesting spot a few blocks away from Broadway and West 2nd, kind of nowhere, and now somewhere, as everyone knows Beaucoup and will come here for their needs. Speaking of go-to's, there is the Chausson Aux Pommes, and this delightful apple pastry is worth the price of admission. Another item... is the peanut butter buttercream dream, it looks like a cookie sandwich, just trust it... and order it. Occasionally they will do collaborations and also seasonal specials, and if you see lineups... well there is a 'cult' following for these pastries, if you wonder why, don't go on a release date item, go before and understand why, and also they have been around a long time.... and the hard work and keeping all the pastries at their highest level speak volumes, even to this day. No need to look for an excuse if you have never been, and if you haven't been in awhile.. well don't worry what you loved before is still there.
I used to looooove Beacoup bakery. it was one of the most iconic spots for a delicious baked good. I'm not sure what happened but i do feel it's gone downhill over the years. I've gone here a few times recently and have been SO disappointed. The coffee tastes burnt in my opinion and today, i ordered an iced latte (regular milk, no sugar, nothing special) and it was $6.88! CRIMINAL. I wanted to add vanilla but that was gunna run me $7.88 for ONE coffee?! I get it -times are tough but $8 for milk and espresso?! cmon! My other problem is the staff. i came around 3pm today and nobody welcomed us in, the one cashier was sweeping in the lineup and said "can u go the other way?" like girl... the customer comes first. if you don't want us here, then lock the cafe. And also when i asked "ohhh actually, i don't need the vanilla in my coffee" cuz it was an extra $1, she basically rolled her eyes. I get it, we all have our bad days but don't work a customer service job if you can't provide a nice experience. I've worked 10 years in fast food and always tried to provide a good experience. Sorry, rant over! haha All in all, they do have some really winning pastries. Some of my faves include the croissants, peanut butter cookie sandidch and the kouign iman (i am totally butchering the spelling) The vibe in here is cute but i do wish they had more seating. They have a side patio which is nice in the summer.
Having tried over 30+ croissant places in Vancouver, I can say that Beaucoup Bakery is my favourite one in this city. The croissants here are always so flakey to the point of being crispy, which I personally prefer. Almost the perfect balance of filling, sweetness level, and butteriness for me. Out of everything I've tried, the pistachio ($6.5) and almond ($6.5) croissant were two of my favourite. The fillings are very rich and nutty, with still a little bit of texture left instead of a smooth paste. Interior was very chic and European inspired, quite elegant and feminine. A few seats are available but not really that comfortable. Service was professional and fast. Coffee was decent, but the highlights are definitely their pastries.
Great bakery with delicious options, their croissants are amazing, nice and flakey and they got some really creative and yummy cake options too. We also loved the ease of finding a parking spot and that they have nice outdoor seating for sunny days.
I've heard this bakery so often and finally decided to try their items. I went on Monday morning so it wasn't crowded. Their location is kinda secluded just off the Granville Island. - almond croissant: flaky croissant but I think it was over baked a little bit since the outside was super crispy. The almond filling was good and tasty - ham & cheese scroll: good savory pastry. It had lots of cheese and it had good flakey texture. - raspberry brioche: very dry & flaky not fluffy like brioche. The raspberry cream was good and not too sweet - london fog: very weak tea taste & too much milk. Overall, it has good pastries selection but the quality was kinda average (3.5 stars).
After many days of rain, it was a sunny day and I came to this bakery cafe for lunch. From the front door to the interior it gave me a comfy and bright feeling. There were plenty of choices of bread la and I spotted their bacon and onion roll looked good so I ordered it with a medium size latte. The roll tasted good and it's size is big. They didn't serve the cutlery so I assumed I had to hold it with my hand. The taste of bacon and onion was rich... while I was enjoying it, a large portion of it suddenly broke and dropped onto the floor. Really unexpected. A staff member saw it and she asked me which bread did I got and she gave me a new one. I didn't take it for granted though many cafes may offer the same to their customers, I really appreciated her attentiveness and care to the customer. It is also worth mentioning the latte tasted good. Unlike some cozy cafes that serve bitter taste and herbal medicine like coffee with unpleasant after taste. While I was sitting there I observed the staff member checked the hygiene of the toilet frequently. In terms of food quality and service, I am happy to give them a 5-star. I am sure I will visit them again when I am around that area. Merci Beaucoup!
I had PLANT-y of time to pick up Beaucoup Bakery's box of new plantbased collection of pastries and chocolates . I enjoyed trying all of these a CHOCO-LOT! I'm not sure if there was butter in them, but the quality is still MARGARIN-ally satisfying. Plant based pastries are a great way of maintaining a healthy diet since it's a PIECE of CAKE! read more
For the baked goods aficionados out there - you must visit this spot. Very well known for their famous DOUBLE baked almond croissants, they do sell out quick & early! There weren't any available on this visit, but I can vouch that they are amazing. I assumed they would be heavy (due to the baking process) but instead of weight, the taste is more amplified This day I had a coconut milk latte & snagged a large peanut butter cream sandwich to go. So this place is the cutest cafe. Just strolling through the area for a meeting with one of my co-workers and I definitely would recommend this hidden gem. The service is warm, friendly and very welcoming! The best joint for baked goods and a sweet cup of tea or coffee. Like what a cooler hip place to be to have a quick snack and have a nice meeting. If you haven't visited yet and you're a local or on your way to granville island market come this way first and get your quality croissant and baked good and cup of tea! read more

I ordered a chocolate croissant and an iced americano and was given an apple chausson instead. Coffee was great, although the compostable cup was a little flimsy to the point of almost spilling my drink. The outside seating area was full, so I found a spot on a bench across the street. It wasn't until I was settled in my spot that I noticed their error, it was ok but let's just say the apple chausson is no pain au chocolat! I wasn't given a napkin and the pastry oozed brown paste and got on my hands. On my way back to my bike I ask if I could use the sink to rinse my sticky hands and was told rather rudely and shrilly that there were wet naps outside. It was again ok but didn't appreciate the attitude. read more

It was Hot Chocolate Festival 2022 and we made our way here after eating lunch in the area. At $11.95, this is the most I have ever paid for a cup of hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was presented nicely. The homemade strawberry pocky stick was good. It tasted like a shortbread cookie dipped in strawberry icing. It was the gourmet version of the classic pocky. The hot chocolate itself was a lightly sweetened strawberry rose flavour. The rose was very subtle. The whip cream and cornflakes added a nice texture to the hot chocolate. The cornflakes did get soggy after awhile and soaked up the hot chocolate goodness. I do not think most people can afford to spend $12 on any beverage daily. However, I did really enjoy the experience and think it was worth trying something like this once in awhile. There is no seating inside the bakery. You can enjoy your drink outside with the limited seating available or walk across the street where there are some benches and a playground. read more
I tried their Peking duck croissant and it reminds me of a lean cha siu bao. The flavor is great but it didn't reminds me of the Peking duck that we eat at the restaurant. I love the sweet top layer and the flakiness of the croissant. There is a generous portion of filling. I look forward to trying their other croissant and pastries! read more

Excellent coffee and pastries! I had the citrus scroll and it was delicious - soft but also crunchy and perfectly flavoured. Be aware this is a small storefront and it gets very busy - be prepared to wait! read more
Apparently if you're into baked goods, you need to be an early bird too. I'm not an early bird so I came after lunch, and even on a weekday, a bunch of their baked goods were out! (This happens at other popular bakeries too..) So I didn't get to try their infamous baked Almond Croissants. Instead, I got their Yuzu Lemon Tart to go along with their Hot Chocolate Festival 2019 offering of hazelnut rosemary milk chocolate ("Hazel and Marie"). The Yuzu Lemon Tart was soooooo yummy. I'm a fan of the shortbread cookie crust that held the custard; it was done perfectly with the right taste and texture. The yuzu lemon filling had the right bouncy density and the right sweet and tart taste. I'd definitely come back for this. Next time I'd hopefully be able to try their Almond Croissant and their Kouign Amann. *Specific to their 2019 Hot Chocolate Festival drink - The hot chocolate was huge but I was disappointed in the flavor as it didn't have a strong chocolate taste and I wasn't a fan of the rosemary in it. The hazelnut macaron it came with had a chewier/stickier texture than I prefer and I can't remember the taste now, but probably won't be getting their macarons in the future. For those with wheelchairs or strollers (like me), note that the entrance is very narrow and with stairs. If my friend wasn't there to help me lift the stroller and navigate the tight entrance, I wouldn't be able to try them out. Another mom actually left their baby in stroller outside so she could quickly run in to pickup some baked goods! So note to self, ergo the baby next time... read more

They frequently run out of croissants. I wonder why. Airy and clean but gets easily crowded when there's like five or six people inside due to its narrow layout. They offer great buttery French style pastries and you can get a recipe book if you'd like to try your hand at making what they offer. read more
If you love Parisian hot chocolate, Beacoup Bakery is definitely the right place to go to! This cute cafe in Downtown is Beaucoup Bakery's second location. I had their "Smooth Like Butter" hot chocolate once during the chocolate festival and I'm super hyped to finally trying their Parisian hot chocolate. The presentation of the chocolate set looks classy, it comes with hot milk and whipping cream. The hot chocolate itself is extremely thick and rich, you can add milk and whipping cream according to your preference. As much as I enjoyed the hot chocolate, I do think it was a bit too sweet for my taste. The set also includes a pastry of your choice abs I chose the raspberry brioche (CAD $5.25). I really like tartness of the raspberry filling unfortunately the pastry it's a bit stale, it feels like it has been sitting out for a bit. Overall I think everything here is ok, but I would recommend sharing the hot chocolate, just because the richness of the hot chocolate could be a be filling! read more

Dreamt about a chocolate crossiant last night so I googled "best chocolate crossiant in Vancouver" and Beaucoup Bakery popped up! This morning I went to check it out. I grabbed a: - chocolate almond croissant - pain au chocolat - drip coffee Total was around $18 All I can say is the croissant was AMAZING! the coffee was a little too strong but I added some almond milk which made it a lot better! I definitely prefer the croissant over the pain au chocolat as it was a little too flaky and oily for me but still yummy regardless! Location wise, they are quite out of the way for me but I saw a lot of people at the park across the street enjoying pastries and coffee so lucky them! However, I will definitely be back to try out their full menu when they full open! read more
I love the croissant here. The pain du chocolat is my favourite. The croissant is not overly greasy like other patisserie which I like and yet it is so nice and buttery. The chocolate is very good quality, dark, slightly bitter and not overly sweet. I also received this macadamia cream puff treat as a surprise over the weekend. So delightful, I enjoyed every bite of it and had it with some roasted genmaicha at home. The texture of the top and bottom pastry is light with a bit of crunch. The filling was not overly sweet but I can taste the aromatic and slightly roasted macadamia nuts. Always consistent in quality and I look forward to coming by and picking up treats each time. read more

Great coffee and even better pastries. The almond croissant here really blew me away! It was perfectly flakey and the filling was delicious but not too sweet. I haven't had croissants so well made since I went to France. You can tell how much time and effort they put into perfecting their pastries. I also had a chai latte which was a perfect compliment to the pastries. The line can be long but it is definitely worth the hype! read more

First time at Beaucoup because of the Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival. It was a pricy combo. I don't mind paying more for quality and because of the pandemic but I was a bit disappointed. The hot chocolate was essentially diluted strawberry milk. The strawberry flavour wasn't even that pronounce. I didn't taste a hint of rose. Not to mention no real chocolate -y flavour. The redeeming quality of this combo was the homemade pocky - it was delicious. I wish they would sell a box of it. However that being said, I think I would come back and try their pastries because the cookie was just so good! read more
Beaucoup Bakery is an awesome quaint place to get pastries and coffee. I love that they sell cookbooks, candles, artisan chocolates, jams, and other items in addition to their fresh and delicious viennoisseries and cookies. My sister had been raving about their oat milk latte and almond croissants, and they did not disappoint! The iced oat latte was creamy and smooth, and not too sweet despite the pump of caramel syrup in it. The almond croissant (a must try!) was delicious with a generous amount of almond paste in it. They had a selection of savoury scrolls and kouign amanns, including a seasonal cardamom kouign amann which I can't wait to try. The bakery itself is small but there is seating outside. read more
We got here later in the day, so we were pretty much left with nothing to choose from (a lone scone, some pain au chocolat, and a few other pastries). My friend ordered the pain au chocolat which she really enjoyed the buttery layered goodness. I thought it was a little cheap on the chocolate: one single, half a finger width worth of chocolate at the bottom of the pastry that extended through the pastry itself. I ordered an $8 ice cream sandwich. Luckily, it was a good size and actually quite filling, or else I would have been very unhappy. (ice cream sandwiches from La Glace looks to be a limited time offer - only 2 flavors offered). The ice cream sandwich is actually pretty good with nice flavor and generously sized and filled. $10 for a bottle of juice (what!), but they do have various teas and coffee drinks, or water is free from the carafe. Free wifi available, just ask for the password. Limited free parking out front. read more

This is one of my favourite dessert spots in the city. The prices are reasonable. I would say even fair. I love their yuzu tart and their apple tart. The presentation of the food is so beautiful and delicate that one would appreciate each bite. I would recommend take out on a busy day as the shop is small. I would recommend the chocolate croissant as well. read more

Wow. Beacoup Bakery is an Experience! We visited during Hot Chocolate Festival and had the "It's a Jam". A peanut butter hot chocolate with strawberry whipped cream topped with 2 peanut butter balls. All for the low price of $10.95. Okay so the price was a bit of a shock but I made it all the way there and HAD to try it. I was NOT disappointed! Continuing with the #ChocolateCroissantChronicles, I ordered the pain au chocolat and I believe it may be the best in Vancouver. Tune in for more! read more

Butter croissant is DIVINE! I really the love the quality of products here. On a recent trip to Vancouver, I decided to try Beacoup based on the good reviews on Yelp and other websites. We just stopped by to get pastries to go. So we were in the car, leaving the vicinity, when we tried the butter croissant. My friend upon taking a bite, parked the car and went back for more! haha! I came here for the Hot Chocolate Festival, and it left me with a burning desire to return. First off, the people - the staff were some of the friendliest I've encountered at a café like this. Second, the food - this was probably the best hot chocolate special I've ever had. The dark hot chocolate was rich and creamy, excellently paired and portioned alongside the bananas foster ice cream, and the two snickerdoodle cookies had a lovely texture and tasted exactly like what you want from a snickerdoodle. And that ice cream? It comes from La Glace, because Beaucoup partners with other local Vancouver companies to source some of their products and ingredients! I do love seeing that kind of synergy. I definitely want to go back - and it seems like they even have a rewards system for returning customers, which is a bit unusual for a bakery as far as I can tell. I probably shouldn't make a habit of going to a bakery, but I definitely want to, if the rest of the quality matches what I experienced here. read more

Beaucoup has been in my bookmarks forever, and I finally made it. Others have mentioned issues with parking and waiting in line. I biked here, which eliminated the former concern, and mentally prepared myself for the latter, which ended up not being so bad. I ordered a straight up croissant with a side of jam (additional charge) and a tea. I'm not a croissant connoisseur by any stretch, but to my taste, this one was a bit too light and flaky--the kind of texture where you bite into air and it mostly shreds apart, without much residual chew. The other offerings (particularly the kouign amann) looked so inviting that I'd happily return again, but maybe not again for the standard croissant. Also, I wish that they'd reconsider the flow for the hot drinks, especially for the low maintenance ones like my tea (tea bag in water). The drinks are what slow down the operation, and I felt like I was taking up space in the coffee line when I could've been in and out quickly with the tea. The park across the street is a nice place to relax and consume your purchases, if the weather is nice. read more

What I ordered: Cookies and Cream Croissant ($5.75) & Latte ($4.25 for medium) This little cafe is tucked away on Fir St. a bit outside of the Granville Island area. As soon as you walk in, you are welcomed with the aroma of freshly made croissants, coffee and scones. Food: I had their latte and season cookies and cream croissant. At first glance, it was quite humongous in size (puffier than the Chez Christophe ones) and was stuffed with bits of chocolate cookies and a cream filling inside. A decadent first bite for sure. It was a bit on the sweeter side for me, so I finished my latte quite quickly. About the Cafe: Even though I came on a weekday morning, the cafe was quite busy, with a steady stream of customers coming in for coffee and pastries to go. I would recommend coming here earlier because there's very limited seating. You may need to stare down some people on their laptops or be fortunate enough to get a seat early. Also, if you happen to be driving, don't go into the little parking lot (it's reserved for a different business); you can find street parking near the cafe. Overall, a good place for coffee chats if you're looking for a cozy place to go! read more

I absolutely love this little place. Their pastries are delicious, feels like being back home in Paris. Lots of butter obviously but delicious. When I came there for the first time, I went back everyday of my stay in Vancouver. I love their croissant and pain au chocolat the most. A lot of people come in to order for take out. Their chausson au pomme has a North American twist i think, because of the cinnamon. There is not a lot of sitting but there is a small parc across the street if the weather is nice. You can also park at the front for a couple minutes or on the left hand side of the place. Definitely recommend this place. read more
Pleasantly surprised by their vegan pb and j cookie. It's gluten free as well (and you can't even tell). This may not be the most accurate review as the cookie unfortunately melted due to the hot weather and became a crumbly soggy mess, but it was still delicious nonetheless. It's not too sweet and the peanut butter flavour is nice. The cookie had a nice texture (which is rarely the case with gf cookies) and the cream to cookie ratio was perfect. I personally could've done without the jam since I'm not a fan of jam, but the amount of jam was little enough that it wasn't overwhelming. Unfortunately they were out of the vegan croissant when I went but I hope to try it sometime soon. read more

Im coming from Washington and this is always a hit list on the places to visit in Vancouver. The modern vibes are gender neutral with a hint of classy industrial. The staff is well liked by patrons and are patient when you such a wonderful variety to pick up.. Arrive early if you want the really good stuff even though everything is good there. That cardamom treat and double baked croissants is something I will always come back for. Their chai latte is the best I ever had at any cafe. Done just right without being too sweet yet still withholding strong chai and cinnamon smells and served with a little sweet nibble square. The place is a little small and crowded during peak hours. Just take it to-go and head to the park. read more

Fantastic bakery!!! Finally found a place that does my sweet tooth right. Had a recent craving for scones, so yelped and went to various establishments in Van that had high ratings for scones but all have come up short... Til this place. Love the scones here - they're flaky on the outside, soft on the inside - with great flavors and contrast of textures. Can't ask for more. Tried the cardamon flavored kouign amann, which I felt was good, but not as flaky or fresh as I'd expect. It was a little stale by the time I tried it, but flavors were still very good. And the double baked croissants are flaky deliciousness. I tried the lemon Chestnut version which had a great lemon glaze and the croissant was baked perfectly.. So good. Coffee here was alright - but baked goods alone are reason enough to come here. I will definitely be back to try more! read more
