Pleasantly surprised by the great service that I received here. I had seen past reviews and was reluctant to try this location. But am thrilled to have tried them and that they had availability! KIM was my manicurist and she was kind, very knowledgeable, skilled and (most importantly) concerned about my nail health. She didn't rush (but wasn't awkwardly slow) and she took time to provide a thorough pedicure and manicure. My hands and feet look and feel great. Also, (important to me) everything was clean and she put on gloves and opened an unsealed utensils package, ensuring safety and good hygiene. You're greeted at the door and there's relaxing music playing, customers chatting, and the ambience is chill. I like going here because conversation is welcome but if you just want to relax, that's also encouraged. I come here after a long day of work and it's nice to have someone hear how I'm doing and it's even nicer that they don't really know me. My nails look amazing and my brows look amazing. I really wanted to like my set but saw several imperfections. For one, the coats on my nails are not even. While the nail tech was filing my nails I politely told her that my two index fingers were uneven to which she replied by saying that one of my nails are smaller than the other - which isn't true. That, to me, doesn't explain how a nail could look uneven. Also I noticed that parts of my real nails are showing towards the bottom of my nail bed as if I've had them for a week already. Lastly, I called before I arrived and was told that I would be given a certain price but once the job was completed I was charged 5 dollars more. The one thing that I can say is that they were nice, had a clean location and parking. But if you are looking for more precision I'd suggest you try somewhere else. read more

I made an appointment for 2 at 6pm. I was seated 620pm with 2 extra ladies just kissing up to 2 other ladies that were there. Their excuse for seating us late was because they didn't have hot water so they had to pour hot water from the sink to soak our feet. The f. They do not sanitize, they use the same nail filer they used on others. They don't even sanitize the area where the previous client was sitting and touching. The lady who did my nails made me bleed because she was too rough when filing and she said "sorry this filer is old." Gross! The person who did my sisterd toe made her bleed as well and spent 10 mins putting on medicine to stop the bleeding. They even kicked my shoes aside and threw my sisters shoes to the side. Like wtf it's Hermes, do you know how much my shoes cost? The constant trash talking in Vietnamese and how dirty the nail salon turned out to be throughout the years. I've been a loyal customer for years and plan to be one for many many more years. This place is a family owned business (Vy is the owner and her parents help operate) with a couple more wonderful nail technicians who have been working together for a long time. I get my nails and body waxing from Vy, she is magnificent. Not only does she do an excellent job, but she's the type who will go beyond and help you with color selection and make sure she's hitting on all the details. For my pedi, I get it from multiple ladies (cuz they're all so good I trust them all) but Linda (Vy's mom) is my go-to person! Unfortunately for me and my nails, this was an awful experience. The 'technician' mindlessly hacked away at my nails. She really did a butcher job, cutting way shorter than requested--uneven filling. Horrible job painting, it's almost as if the polish was old...uneven, bumps, etc. We gave it a try due to the proximity to my house, and really wish we didn't. It's not particularly clean and there were language barrier issues when voicing my requests and concerns. For me, there was no redeeming quality for beauty bar. read more

Love this place - definitely my go to for mani/pedis. I used to live upstairs and tried it one weekend and have been going back since. I actually like this place better than Wynn down the street on Wilshire. I used to work closer to Wynn and we would go there during lunch breaks and yes they're efficient with time but I always felt rushed. At Beauty Bar, as someone mentioned before, it is definitely more of a relaxation thing. If you tell them you're in a rush though, they will also accommodate. They are also pretty accurate when estimating wait time. When I've gone, they've been pretty good about letting me know the add-on's have additional charges, so I've never had an issue with that. If I feel like splurging, I'll usually get paraffin wraps for both my hands and feet and extra massages for both as well, and callus remover. It'll usually come out to around $100. I've also just gotten a standard mani/pedi for much cheaper. I can't remember how much though b/c when I go here I usually get more. I live in Culver City now, go to different salons in El Segundo and in Culver but Beauty Bar is still my favorite and I'll trek to Miracle Mile. The women are super friendly and the salon is clean. You can use the retail parking lot in the back (entrance on Mansfield). If the valet guy is there, you can tell him you are going to Beauty Bar (valet is only for Genwa). read more

Major shoutout-- this is the best gel manicure I've had. The lovely technician took me at 7pm, took her time and did not make me feel rushed whatsoever. She applied thin coats and made sure they were thoroughly dried between each. The polish was hard- almost like a mini acrylic and solidly lasted even after my manicure had grown out. I used to be a simple girl who grew up by the beach, chasing seagulls, picking sand out of burnt marshmallows, falling asleep on a towel and waking up wondering where I am. I believed that thing about being able to hear the ocean in a seashell much longer than I should have. The sun kind of...kissed my brain cells away. But, I have since been enlivened by the colorful, stimulating existence of city life. There is always something to do, somewhere to go, something to learn, and it just never gets old. I live near museums, the theatre, and I can sit in on classic film lectures whenever I want. The beach is pretty and all, and a nice place to go on vacation or a weekend with an extra day. But you don't realize you were bored until you aren't anymore. Now...I'm a sassy, busy city girl. You can't get one over on me. But one last thing remains from my days of shorts and flip-flops. I'll still kick off my shoes and go anywhere barefoot. Not withstanding rumors of the risk of catching TB, and some old lady yelling to me once, "Aren't you afraid you're going to step on a bug?" I'll kick my shoes off in a minute. Which typically results in some scratchy, dusty, hard soles. So, when I've finally plopped down in some seat where someone is expected to deal with them, she typically wriggles up her nose, turns to the gal next to her, and says something which, roughly translated, probably means: "On days like this, I hate my friggin' job." She pulls out her extra grit sandpaper and my ears burn. I shop around, but it's always the same. My feet are notorious offenders, and in several establishments about town, I'm turned away on sight. I was beginning to think I was going to have to give up my monthly peds. Until I came across, the Beauty Bar. Never have my feet been accorded such respect. Actually, I requested a mani-pedi, and so two women came over at once and worked on me. I'm used to crowded, noisy "salons." But this, ladies and gents, is truly a spa. Instead of a Tupperware container filled with instruments of suspicious bacterial origins being presented, they pull out a vacuum-sealed pack of shiny silver implements, just for you. I settled back in my leather massage chair and was transported to a fairy tale land where people take a leisurely hour treating you like Cinderella, getting her foot ready for that elusive glass slipper. Your mind floats away as they exfoliate your legs and feet with green goop, then massage your limbs with lotion. Yes, remove my callouses, please, and thank you for smiling and quietly slathering, shrink wrapping, and filing them away, without so much as a glance at your colleague. My cuticles and have never had such careful attention either. Both women took pride in perfecting their work, prepping the canvas and then applying paint with artistic precision. I was asked repeatedly what I liked. And when I thought about it, I didn't really know. I was used to being a nail victim. One place you can still get something over on me in the big city is a nail salon. But when you're flip flopping out of Beauty Bar, you don't look down and realize you could have done the same thing at home. My toes look like perfectly shaped, pink little mirrors. And my soles? I don't even think I'll walk barefoot in my crib anymore. Like I said: I'm a simple beach gal. So, if you're used to this kind of thing, bear with me. I absolutely LOVE the Beauty Bar! I used to live in the apartments above, and although I don't live there anymore, I drive 20 minutes to this spot to get my mani/pedi done. All the girls are very thorough and do not rush. I always like to pay for an extra 5 minute foot massage, and almost always they go way over the time and do not charge me. If you're loyal to them, they will give you perks in return. I have been going since the Beauty Bar since it first opened (2 years ago) and will continue to get my nails done here. The polish lasts days longer than when I have gone to another salon. I highly recommend you get your mani/pedi done here. Oh, and another perk? Parking is extremely convenient. They were doing all sorts of things to my feet. They didn't mention anything about charging me for all these things they were doing. But at the end I got a fat bill of $87. The gel French mani that was suppose to last about 2 weeks started peeling off in less than a week. It didn't even look nice. When I told them that they didn't tell me that I was going to be charged for all these extra services that they voluntarily did, the guy, who I think is the owner, didn't care and still charged me. It's my understanding that when you call 5 hours ahead to schedule an appointment, you're doing so so that you don't have to wait. But that's exactly what happened -- I waited-- FOR 45 MINUTES. I scheduled 2 appointments for my sister and I so we could have a nice Saturday evening girl time. Unfortunately, although she was taken on time, I had to wait for 45 minutes which didn't seem right to me since there were 3 workers sitting in the massage spa chairs giving each other massages. Finally after 2 of the workers finished another client (who they took before me) they said they were ready for me -- but by that time my sister was done and I wasn't going to make her wait another hour for me to get my full set done. They tried to make it up to me by giving me coupons -- but these weren't any special coupons, they were the same exact ones you could download from their site for $2 off a manicure. For what it's worth, my sister's manicure came out nice but nothing that we were ecstatic about for $15. I'm so disappointed. read more

When my office moved locations a couple of years back, I lamented the loss of the convenient proximity to East West Hands. For some time I found nothing near our new locale on mid-Wilshire that made me as happy. Enter Beauty Bar to save the day! Beauty Bar allows me to be spoiled and cheap at the same time - I love that! The place is lovely, clean, and calming. They have an excellent selection of OPI and Essie colors - which somehow seem to last longer than anything else. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. It's also nice that they always offer me a bottle of water to sip on while my toes soak in the tub and my back melts into the massage chair. I've never had a problem walking in, but I have noticed that they have been starting to get incrementally busier -- which makes me think that I should not be writing this review. Absolutely loved my experience here! I will definitely be returning as a repeat customer because this place is so close to my house. Three of us went in on a Saturday and had 3 pedis and 2 manis. I felt like they spent so much time and attention on each of us. I did notice my friend was annoyed by the upselling during her pedicure, but I feel like that happens everywhere. I had Rachel doing my nails and Alex on my toes, both gel. They were both wonderful. I will probably be asking Rachel to always do my manicure!!! She was so sweet and so detailed. I was so excited when I discovered Beauty Bar, just a stone's throw from my house! The price is a tad steeper than my normal place, but the convenience of walking allowed me to justify the extra change. My first, second, and third mani-pedi experiences were all just fine, nothing to speak of either way, with a polite and competent staff. It was the FOURTH visit that made me vow not to return. The young lady who did my pedicure did just fine, but the man who did my manicure performed far below average. He rushed through the whole thing, and wasn't careful at all. When trimming my cuticles, he cut off so much extra skin that I was left bleeding on three fingers. On top of that, he completely ignored the fact that I was bleeding and acted as if nothing happened, even when I cringed and pointed it out to him. It took over a week for one of the deeper cuts to close! So, I'm going back to my old salon, where at least I know I won't be paying to get injured. read more
