Extremely bad, the worst I've ever seen, I don't know how this crappy technique can open a salon. The upper layer and bottom layer of my hair are entirely 2 pieces. The left and right sides are not the same length at all. And after the cutting, they won't give me a blow dry even hair is still wet. Run away from this place. read more

TL;DR - Dirt cheap for a hair cut and nice man, but difficult to communicate. Ken is a wonderfully nice man. However, it was a bit difficult to communicate with him on what exactly I wanted. While I did show him a picture, and he quickly glanced, he went straight in for the cut and it ended up being much shorter (like a buzz) behind my neck which made it impossible to wear a ponytail. It was disappointing, and I wish I had time to explain what I wanted before he made a nod and the cut. To be fair, it was a $20 woman's haircut (tip included). I barely waited because the salon was rather empty on a Friday afternoon, and also yes, I did make a call and an appointment so it was quite easy. Overall, if you have a simple hairstyle and need a quick, easy cut, go to Ken. He's awesome, and he's also familiar with Asian hair and hairstyles, which is honestly a big deal to me because Asian hair is so fickle. read more

Ken has over twenty-nine years experience cutting hair in places like Hong Kong, Chicago, San Jose and various places here. Winnie studied in China and has over ten years experience and styled and did facials in various places in the San Francisco bay area. As soon as I heard, he used to cut hair in Hong Kong, I was there. I've gotten a perm and haircut from Ken. I've gotten highlights and a HOT OIL TREATMENT from Winnie. I'm happy with both. The man who cut my hair (Ken I assume) is great. I have thick, coarse African-american/Asian hair and Ken did a great job cutting even layers. Granted, I flat ironed my hair to make it easier on him because I know in it's natural state it's a challenge to deal with. When he started spritzing water on it, I started to think "oooohhh no he's gonna have a tough time cutting it evenly" as it expanded and swelled about 3 inches. I was grateful to see that he took his time and made sure that each side matched the other. When I got home to flat iron my hair again and check out his handiwork in better detail, I was pleased. I will come back! I paid $14 plus a tip. Make sure to tip!! Also, make sure to bring cash! They accept Visa and MasterCard, but only if you are paying $20 or more. read more

I don't really speak the language. I guess next time I will bring a picture. I had my haircut with Ken. The first day tho, I thought he cut my hair to thin. But I'm not too worry because I have tons of hair to spare. Few weeks has passed and cutting softened. Ken understood my explanation somehow and which area that was my main concerned. My last cut was about 6 months ago. Ken was able to see my original cut and tried to recreate that. He was pretty knowledgeable in my opinion. But if you don't speak Cantonese and wasn't sure, just bring a picture. It's better for everybody that way. Can't complained with $20 cut, wash, and dry. He also rewashed my hair after the final cut to get rid all of that tiny hair particle. What more do you want? I wish they do scalp treatment. I'll be there every week. hahaha... ;P read more

This has been my go-to place for as long as I can remember! Probably 6 years? I can always count on Ken to cut my hair just the way I want it! I just have to tell him how many inches, and he would throw out some suggestions on whether I should get layers, or bangs, and he would execute them perfectly. Sometimes I just come for a trim to keep my hair healthy, and he would cut just enough to keep my initial hair style. One time, I had not come for months, and had my hair permed and dyed at another salon within that period of time. Later on, I came to Ken for a haircut, he felt my hair and knew that I had gotten my perm exactly three months ago. Just from a touch!! Talk about hair expert. read more

Just got my haircut today and I'm loving it. The place looked like the 5 dollar haircut at Chinatown so I was feeling a little nervous. The lady who could speak English everyone talked about was also no where in sight and on top of that, I couldn't find a good picture of the haircut I wanted so I felt really doomed. However, I stuck through it. I showed Ken the best picture I could find and he immediately knew what I wanted. I think he had cut enough hair to know all the haircuts out there and the basic terms. This is the second time in my life I feel satisfied with my haircut and not thinking to myself "hopefully it will look better in a few week when my hair grows out". So I made an appointment at beauty imaged based off yelpers and I guess I must have missed the part where Ken doesn't speak English... I was pretty nervous when I went in there but I just showed him a picture and left it in his hands. I was still really nervous while he was cutting until I noticed a framed picture on the wall of a young Ken with Miss Asian Princess 2002. Then I thought to myself "If Ken styled the winning hair of Miss Asian Princess then I MUST be at the right place." And I was right. With just picture on my iphone Ken cut me the best layers I've ever seen. The second time I was there I knew my hair was damage, I didn't even have to say anything (mostly because it's pointless) and he cut my hair shorter due to the damage but still made me look great! He took it from 6 to 5 inches, with a precision and thoroughness I have rarely seen by a practitioner of his craft. He hovers over your head, mouth slightly agape, coke goggles planted on his nose. With each swoop and dive, you feel that he's less cutting your hair, and more chiseling stone away from rock en route to a statue. His office assistant serves as translator, but little is needed. A bowl of Chinese hard candies greets all. When asked, Ken (through the translator) gave me advice on using lighter gel for my hair type. Superb. read more

I went here after an extensive Yelp search for an inexpensive haircut. I'm probably a rarity in that I have never and will never pay more than $20 for a haircut. My hair is super low maintenance so I'll just go in for a trim every other month so a top notch hair stylist isn't ever necessary. The salon is minimally furnished and Ken was available to see me right away. I told him I wanted an inch off. I think he could tell I was nervous he'd cut off way more than I'd requested. He snipped a piece and showed it to me - 1 inch and not a centimeter more. Ken works with amazing precision and focus. He took his time and was really thorough stopping after each section to make sure my hair was even. I will continue to see Ken for my bimonthly haircuts. He's definitely earned my loyalty! Ken has been cutting my hair for about three years now and I'm never disappointed. After going to random places over the years and getting unsatisfactory haircuts, I'm glad I finally met Ken. I've had varying haircuts over the years including a chin length bob to longer hair with layers. I usually bring a picture of what I want and Ken cuts it exactly like how I want it to look. He really listens to what you want, and might give small suggestions along the way to suit your personal appearance. If you tell him to cut 1cm off, he'll do just that. I know I've have my fair share of tears when the hairdresser cut off 5 inches more than I wanted. I have really thick Asian hair that's usually pretty hard to cut, by he manages to keep the thickness of my hair without making it seem like it's heavy and dull. Ken specializes in skin fades, classic cuts, trend cuts, he can do anything you want for your hair. He doesn't speak much but tell him the details and specifics he'll hook you up! I appreciate this no frills salon. I'm not here to chit chat, and neither is he. If you don't speak Chinese, come prepared with a photo of the haircut you want. He will then methodically work at your hair. He wont give you recommendations on what style fits your face shape or etc., but he will cut what you show him. read more

I pass by this place all the time and never gave it a second thought until I needed a place just to get a trim and found it had four stars on Yelp. I came in and told him I just wanted a trim and he said he'll take about two inches off of my already long hair. The end result was fine, I was very happy with it. This place seems fine if you're only looking to get a trim but I don't know how I would feel about actually getting my hair styled or colored here. I give 3 stars because I got a good haircut for 14 bucks. However the place took me 70 bucks for coloring hair. The color wasn't like what I expected. I had brown hair and wanted a color that would pop out so I chose violet. I agree that my hair has been colored before and it is hard to put fashion color over it unless I gotta bleach my hair. I love the brightness and pigment of violet. I can pay whatever it costs to get that violet. But please... Why did you give me a burgundy head and take 70 bucks from me like that ): read more
