I came here for eyebrow threading. I found out about this place from Yelp and I can honestly say my first experience was OK. She seemed very attentive and I explained to her how I wanted them threaded and she very much obliged. Over time, however, I noticed that the quality was going down. She ALWAYS seems to be in a rush even though when I go there is never anyone there. My last appointment was dismal. She rushed through my eyebrows and I left very unsatisfied. I will no longer be going back. The salon itself is not very nice and does not seem too clean. I wouldn't advise going for a pedicure or manicure. read more

I have been coming to Nargis since 2011. I only trust her when it comes to eyebrows, haircut, and waxing. I have thick eyebrows and Nargis takes particular attention making sure they are perfect! She also gives me beautiful hair cut and helps me with the waxing needs. I am so glad I have Nargis :) she is the best. read more

I had a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE with this place. I was going for the first time for a wax appointment and when I arrived, no one was at the shop and I waited for over 15 minutes in the pouring rain. I tried to call multiple times and no one responded. When I finally received a phone call back, I was yelled at by the owner and told that I should not be so serious. This is one of the worst experiences I've had. I will never come here again. I think the owner was incredibly rude to me, and clearly this shop does not care about its clients. Edit: To add to just how HORRIBLE this experience was, the owner's daughter called me multiple times on my cell phone and when I finally answered she proceeded to BERATE me and tell me that I said false things and that I was rude to her mother over the phone. I could not believe that someone would have the gall to call an unhappy client on their personal phone and not apologize, but instead continue to argue with you. I asked for them to never contact me again. Ridiculous that they think it's okay to call and HARASS their clients. read more

Nargis Aunty is an awesome person when comes to waxing, facial, threading! I have been her customer from past 10 years! When she does wax she looks at every spot to make sure no hair is left! I normally go to a place in Chicago I love, but since I was visiting a friend we decided to stop in. To be fair, it was the new owners' first day, but it seemed like they have owned a place located somewhere else. The water for my friend's pedicure was luke-warm, they didn't know how to turn the jets on, and then they got her jeans all wet because they couldn't figure out how to turn the jets off as they emptied the water. My manicure looks like something I could have done. There are gaps on the sides of the nails, the color is not even, and she did not even manage to cover the whole nail. The polish was goopy and I don't have high hopes for how long it'll last. There was also still polish on my skin which she did not manage to clean up. We then had to wait until someone else came so that they could use the credit card machine. Ugh, I would recommend you go somewhere else because this was NOT worth the $14 it cost (I know that's cheap, but I pay less in Chicago). read more

I always heard that this place was good. So I decided to try it and I couldnt be more disappointed. Maybe she is really good with eyebrows and other stuff but waxing... so freaking painful. Went in on a late Saturday afternoon. Only 1 girl working - she was coloring a man's hair when i walked in, and then started on another girl's pedicure and while that customer was soaking her feet (and the man was waiting for his hair coloring to go through), she threaded my eyebrows. not sure if she washed her hands before that though... overall the place is definitely a bit dated. the quality of the threading (8$) was as good as another highly rated place i went to back in SD. while walking back up chicago ave (towards NW), i passed by joe's barbershop which advertised 5$ threading, so i'd prob check that place out to compare. overall, my experience was ok - good threading work, but the place doesn't feel especially sanitary/nice. read more

Good job on threading, very quick in and out of the shop. However, I was slightly annoyed that she was on the phone while doing my brows! Um, I'm here for all of 5 minutes out of your day, the least you can do is un-anchor the phone from your ear for a bit. I had a very similar experience to Sarah's a year after her review and I would not go back to this place even though they seemed sweet. The manicurist did not seem to know what she was doing--she left jagged edges when she filed my nails and I had to ask her to smooth them out. The nail polish was so thick and gummy that she could not apply it smoothly. She was incredibly slow, but not meticulous; she even left spots of polish on my fingers and around the nails. Afterwards, my nails looked worse than if I had done them myself. Like Sarah, I got pressured to get my eyebrows threaded even though I kept saying no, I didn't have time that day. They tried to sell me on henna tattoos and went so far as to give me a free sample. The henna was so thick and dry, she tried squeezing it from 3 or 4 different tubes and then it remained a crumbly, sticky mess on my hand. I can't imagine the woman who was working that day is licensed. This is really disturbing: she used the same cuticle pusher that she used on the person next to me (who happened to be my mother, but did they sanitize before they used it on her??). This place does not seem sanitary. I would be very scared to get a pedicure there and, really, there's no point in going back for a manicure even though it's somewhat cheap. Very reasonably priced salon. Great for eyebrows. She knows what she is doing. And its only $8 ! The manicure and pedicure was good for the most part. The enamel application was not the best leaving edges uncovered. She told me to leave in a couple minutes but the nails were not dried and I managed to ruin 3 nails when leaving... I have been going to Beauty Spot for the past three years to get my eyebrow threading, upper-lip and hand waxing. Nargis is a very sweet and warm lady and is the best at threading--- it is painless and quick. I am always thrilled with the way my eyebrows look after she is done --- not too thin, not too thick and a great shape. Other services I have tried are very satisfying as well. I have also gotten my facial done a couple of times and it was a great experience. Her prices are very reasonable and she gives student discounts, so that it is not a big blow to your humble student wallet. You might have to wait once in a while, but it is completely worth the wait! read more

I'm a guy. I wear my hair short--mostly done by electric razor. I get a haircut once every 1 - 2 weeks. For years before I moved to Evanston, I went to a barber for my haircuts. Which was fine, and manly and all. But one day, soon after I moved to Evanston, I was walking by the Beauty Spot, and I needed a haircut, and I saw that the price was $9.99, and I thought "well, if this is a mistake I can fix it within a week or so." Nargis (the owner) has a barber chair set up in the back of the store and she does a great job for half the price of a lot of barbers. Not to mention, she's super nice. So, I've been getting haircuts there for over two years now. No, it's not a "real" barber shop--it's mostly a beauty salon. So if you're the kind of person who thinks that a Truly Authentic Barber Shop Feeling is worth an extra ten bucks, I get that. But if you'd rather spend the ten bucks on something else (and get just as good a haircut from a really great person), try Nargis! read more

I've been going here for eyebrow threading for the past three years. Nargis is absolutely amazing! I came in after several bad eyebrow experiences and Nargis was great at not only giving my eyebrows a shape that is natural and flattering for my face, but also helping me to grow them out. There is some artistry to eyebrow shaping and she is really great at what she does. She is also markedly gentle, I would say that her threading is as gentle as it gets. Some tips: bring cash for eyebrow threading ($8) as there is a $10 credit card minimum. Also try to come at off hours as the salon can sometimes get crowded and there can be a wait (around 10 minutes) if it is. read more

I went in today (3/22/13) and had a terrible experience here. I called first to make an appointment, but the person I spoke with said it wasn't necessary so I walked in. I got there and of course she was overly busy, and I had to wait. I get threading a lot, and this is the most painful I've had. She was very rough and was trying to work fast because there were four of us there. The woman was also literally working on the four of us at one time. Start taking appointments so you don't have to run around between four people! Or finish one person before you start the next! And wash your freaking hands between people! And please make your phone stop ringing every minute! And the place is dirty. Never going back! read more

This was at 1pm, after they had been open for two hours. After finally being let in I told them what I had come in for and they told me to sit down and wait. I have been going here for over 2 years for waxing and eyebrow threading. Nargis is really nice and very talkative and always remembers you/ remembers the things you talk about. She is also the fastest waxer I have ever encountered and is really thorough (she never leaves any hairs). Also I'm not sure what it is - maybe the wax she uses or how she does it - but it's not as painful in sensitive areas. And her eyebrow shaping (I do threading) is always perfect. I am moving out of state now and I doubt I will find as good as a salon with such reasonable prices. read more

I have (had) full eyebrows and was exceedingly specific that I wanted to keep my thickness and that I only wanted definition. I have hesitated writing this review for a long time because I know how much reviews impact small businesses. However, I think what happened to me should be known for others considering going here. I had been going here for about 6 months for eyebrow threading, she had done a good job. At the end of her threading the eyebrows, she would use little scissors to shape any longer hairs - normal practice. But while doing this in October, she cut off HALF of my eyelashes on one eye, just above the root of the eyelash. I don't wear much makeup on the weekends when this was done so I didn't notice it until Monday when I went to put on mascara..... (no, she didn't tell me). I was very disappointed, and upset that she didn't say anything. About a month later, I did something out of character for myself, I decided to give her a 2nd chance. People make mistakes and figured she felt bad about it. I couldn't imagine she didn't notice. She was very conveniently located to my house. So I went back in and she acted off when I walked in, it was like I could feel her embarrassment in the air, so I figured we had a mutual understanding that she messed up and not to do it again. She literally cut them again (and more this time on the one eye, and 1/4 off the other eye). She didn't say anything again. I don't know if she can't see or if she's just evil. I was blessed with very long natural eyelashes, something that stood out. Any beauty people I have talked about this with have said that they don't know how she could cut them as she did on accident. I read up about how long it would take to grow back, all sources stating between a few weeks to a few months. Unfortunately for me, she cut so close that the doctor believes she hurt the eyelash follicle. It's been 8 months with no regrowth. Yes, I even tried Rodan + Fields product. I'm not trying to sit here and cry about this because, in the end, it's just hair. Also to note, I would tip her like 75-100% every time in cash. I was always kind to her in conversation for the short sessions. There was no indication that she didn't like me. You've been warned. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE! I trusted yelp ratings hoping this would be a great place but I was mistaken. I came in on a Saturday around 3pm. When I came in there was only one person getting their eyebrows done, I asked If they would be able to thread my eyebrows and the lady doing the threading said yes, but I would have to wait 20 minutes. I had no problem waiting because I thought that they would make me wait because the current customer was going to get additional services done. Instead, she finished threading the current woman's eyebrows and then the customer left and the lady/owner headed to the back and started cooking food in the back. I waited an additional 30 minutes hoping she would come out soon but she still remained in the room in the back on the salon. I was very disturbed because I was literally the ONLY customer she had left and I only wanted to thread my eyebrows (which wouldn't even take that long) so I just got up and left after waiting more than 40 minutes.
