One of my favorite wineries ever! I've been here for a bachelorette party and for a recent girls trip. It's an absolutely beautiful property and the wine is delicious! My personal favorite is the Rose. What made the experience really special this past time was our tour guide nicknamed "Coach." We got to go on a free winery tour and Coach made it awesome! Funny, charismatic and extremely knowledgeable about the wine. I learned a lot and had a blast! And he was happy to take multiple pictures of our group. Absolutely would recommend! read more

Super horrible experience. I took my inlaws here who were visiting from Iceland and I had talked up how great and friendly the Central Texas Wine tasting experience was. Boy, I could have taken them to snootyville and we would have been treated better. One guy looked us right in the eye and then continued to ignore us. Another woman just complained about how busy it was and one of the guys seemed sloshed at 2pm on a Wednesday. OK, they might have been understaffed and overwhelmed but if I wasn't vocal we never would have left but the way they responded to it was dissappointing. It still took us 2 hours to complete 6 baby tastes of wine that wasn't that exciting and several other groups who got there after us finished before us. I did really love the Raven wine- but I don't think I could buy a wine from this maker again because of this experience. Becker servers go take a lesson from the fantastic lady at Stone House or the lovely folks at William Chris or Rancho Pointe. They take the time to make sure you don't feel like you are at a Wine Carnival. read more

We visit during the Lavender Festival which meant it was super busy with tons of co-op vendors to shop while you sip your wine. Be ready to have cash on hand as they charge for parking $5 bucks the weather was lovely in May. You are allowed to bring in your own food and snack, chairs and tables if you really want to set up shop! The wine tasting was a bit more expensive than some of the other wineries but very well organized, bottles cost more at the vineyard then at the grocery store. Have fun and drink safely! read more

Becker appears to be the king of the wine country. I was not pleased. Sure, I have done the Napa thing, but I am holding Becker in comparison to my other 6 vineyards for the day. And Becker sucked. I mean I was trying to rank my wines by star rating, but there was not 6, so I named 2 4's. Not surprisingly, Becker received my 1. The main reason? The wines tasted like they had gone south. It was very busy--so much so as to not get service. So, perhaps they were just serving us the old batches. The wines had far too much bite. Thank goodness we started our day here; the wineries got progressively better. The positives? A fantastic patio and outside venue. Other than that? No bueno at Becker. read more

Hands down the worst experience I ever had at a winery. I don't know if I was treated poorly because I don't appear to be the target clientele or what, but I certainly know poor service when I receive it. Well Becker, you're not the only game in town and every other winery I visited was more than accommodating, and not to mention far less crowded. As glowing a recommendation I gave others for your claret in the past, I'll now recommend instead shelling out a few bucks more for Francis Ford Coppola's which is superior anyway. I certainly won't be giving any place that allows such poor treatment of customers a penny more. My recommendation to all: skip this place and check out Messina Hof, Pedernales Cellars, Grape Creek or even Torre di Pietra instead. You'll get far more personable service and you won't feel like a sardine jammed into a can. read more

I recently had the pleasure of doing a winery day in Federicksburg and this was our second stop - for being the best winery in the county, I was very underwhelmed. We walked in and went up to the bar for a tasting. After literally being ignored for several minutes, a girl finally asks if everyone has tickets which we did not. We had gone to the register initially but she was too busy talking to a customer to help anyone else. After getting our tickets, we headed back to the bar to start our tasting. The tickets, surprisingly, did not speed the process along. Again, we stood there and waited with no one helping us. There was a gentleman assisting a couple next to us but apparently had no desire to help anyone else. Finally, the girl from whom we purchased the tickets set us up. She didn't bother to explain any of the wines, just poured them. Yes, we had a menu and could read about the wines ourselves, but it's always nice to hear about them and hear things not on the menu. The wine, really, was awful. I have tasted and drank A LOT of wine in my life and there really is no way to describe how awful some of these were (the Chenin Blanc, our complimentary tasting, had what my cousin's wife described as a "worm dirt" nose). Honestly, the only wine we remotely cared for was the Merlot and even that was because we really just wanted a bottle of something to share and sit outside. It absolutely was not worth the $30. My pallet was completely wrecked by the tastings here but we found ourselves incredibly amused at just how awful it was. I'm not sure if they have gotten a big head over being the "best in the county" but just because you were the best, doesn't mean you just get to be the best forever - you have to work for that title and it didn't appear to me that a single staff member here cared about doing any work. Horrible. I would skip this one if you are out there and try one of the many others that there are to choose from. (My personal favorite was Pedernales Cellars, which I also reviewed). read more

I feel so lucky I have a great vineyard so close to me. I love to explore this place on a weekend. I have never asked if they allow dogs; but, they always allow me to bring my kid.. The winery is surrounded by peach trees and fields of Lavender. The Tasting Room is decorated W/ arts and crafts by local artists..And they sell Lavender potpourri, soap and oil... from their Lavender fields.. And the wine is good - the malbec is a perfect combination of grapes...... read more

My fiance and I attempted a Hill Country wine tour with our wine-loving friends a few months ago. Becker is the crown jewel of Texas wineries. After tasting some watered-down wines at an unremarkable winery on our way to Becker, I didn't go in expecting much. In fact, I remember complaining that Texan wines were either WAY too sweet - blech - or watered-down. Becker changed my mind. First, the setting: It's beautiful, the model of what a Texas winery should look like. OK, maybe you're not surrounded by grape vines, but you're surrounded by lavender. And the smell of all that lavender transcends any memories you might have of your last wine trek through Healdsburg, Calif. There's a beautiful garden, beautiful buildings (grr, I should have taken pictures) and a lovely patio that overlooks the property. They'll let you open one of their bottles and drink outside. It's one of my favorite Texas memories. My favorite wines: I loved the Zinfandel, the Prairie-Rotie and the Syrah. The whites weren't that bad, either. But those reds were lip-smackingly good. read more

The facilities at Becker are top notch. The whole place is landscaped and laid out beautifully! The tasting room is richly appointed and pleasant. However, I find it all to be a little too "touristy" for my tastes. When going to a winery, I'd rather focus on the wine. Becker has theirs laid out with a gift shop inside and outside the tasting room. That was a real turn off for me. The tasting room is MASSIVE. There are multiple bars, but we found it difficult to find space for only two of us. The crowd was stifling. Bonus - they had purse hooks under the bar. The tasting list is extensive. for $12 we received 6 tastings. Although the price is what you would expect for this area, the tastings were on the small side. The wines were above average. We found several we would purchase. For someone who is not into wine, this is a great starter. For the wine enthusist, you might find it too commercial. I might go back, but I will keep my wine snob expectations low! read more

The two times I have been here for a wine tasting, this place has been packed. At times it can be hard to get a sample, but they have an indoor and outdoor area that you can juggle between. For the most part, the volunteers do a good job about explaining the different wines but it can be hard to hear them inside and the ones on the outside seem less experienced. I like that they have a large variety of wines to sample from and have beautiful outdoor seating. They usually have a live band that adds to the jovial outdoor ambiance. I liked Becker because it is not as pretentious as some of the other Highway 290 wineries. This is a place where people who appreciate wine can come together, taste wine, and have a great time. You can even buy bottles there to enjoy on the premises. They often also have food trucks so you can enjoy food with your wine. I've now been out to Becker 4 times and can't say that I'm a huge fan. I think that they have a pretty winery and that their wine is in the better half of vineyards in the area in terms of quality. I appreciate that they have wines in the $9-$15 range as much of their competition only has pricier selections, noting that Becker has the largest selection of wines that I have seen on this wine trail. It's also a plus that if you happen to like what you taste, you can get Becker in many supermarkets after you get home, noting that I even saw it on the menu in a restaurant in L.A. What I don't like is that the workers here have always had a bit of a snooty attitude, and their slow service makes a stop here eat up way too much time. I understand that they are the most heavily marketed vineyard the area, but they should really drop the ego as being the most famous vineyard in Fredericksburg is about on par with being the best team in your intramural softball league. It's a swell accomplishment and all, but they aren't in the big leagues yet! My best advice is to go here only if you have lots of time, as they'll keep you in this place forever, probably to get you to consider buying some of their merchandise as it's everywhere. If you want to take some wine home, stick to the cheaper bottles. If you want to buy a $30+ bottle of wine, go to Specs or the Austin Wine Merchant and get something from California, Argentina or Western Europe as Texas Wineries rarely end up producing anything worth that. The wine trail here has become the 'cool thing to do' as of late, and all of these vineyards pricing structure is taking advantage of that. read more

MAKE SURE YOU DONT HAVE TO MANY FRIENDS OR FAMILY , or they will deny you entry !!! We have gone to Becker for years, they are one of the oldest vineyards in the area if not The Oldest. We have never had a bad experience there. From all of the grape stomps we have attended to the weekend wine tasting and just buying bottles and hanging out on their patio and enjoying live music. Until yesterday, it was my niece's birthday and we were celebrating as a family and wanted to visit a few wineries, to insure everyone had a safe experience I rented a van. So instead of us bringing 2 cars we rode together and when we arrived we were greeted by the rudest representative of Becker Vineyards, someone the manager described as a veteran employee. Who told us we had to leave. That we were to large of a group. Then he directed his attack at me. I have a hard time believing this is how they treat their customers let alone the club members who were in the vehicle. After all these years they just lost a very loyal customer. I will not return. We went to 5 total vineyards and all welcomed us as we would have expected from Becker. I can not accept rude people or behavior. read more

This stop was probably my favorite of the 3 that we visited. (Which were Pedernales Cellars and Grape Creek Vineyards, respectively.) My BF and I shared the wine tasting which was $10 for 6. We even got 2 complimentary tastings for Rousaanne as well as a Sauvignon, from the very friendly staff. The place is very scenic, and was very attracted to the vineyards and lavender fields. They even have a hall next door that they rent out for wedding receptions and such. Bought a bottle of '12 Fleur Sauvage. They have many wines distributed to HEB, and only some are only sold at the winery, including this one. We will def be back here. Awesome way to end a tour. read more

Becker Vineyard used to be my favorite vineyard to visit. I recently had a horrible experience at the vineyard. I went with my friends and family on May 14th for my bachelorette party. We got off the party bus, walked into the establishment and one of the employees had a look of disgust on her face. The ladies and guys a part of my party were looking around because most of them were from Illinois and Michigan. I went to the employee who had the look of disgust and asked to taste 2 wines. Not only did this person give me attitude, but was very rude in telling me they don't do 2 wine tastings, you have to buy 6. As she was speaking, I just walked off and went to my Man of Honor and told him to not purchase anything, let's go because I don't appreciate the way I'm being treated by this employee. Needless to say, we left. It was a horrible experience and I will NEVER purchase anything from Becker or go there again. The sad thing is, I truly use to love this place and they missed out on a large purchase of wines. It's ok, because the next vineyard we went to, was MUCH better and we spent A LOT of money there. read more

This is a MUST if you're driving down Texas Hill Country. MUST! They have such a big piece of land with so much culture. The charge was $15 for 5 tastes and the wine glass they give you. They have a very nice selection of wines and you can tell that there is alot of roots and soul at Becker. They have tours of the Winery which I highly recommend because you are taken to where the wine is fermented and barreled! The staff was kind throughout my experience and the wine was fantastic. Such a beautiful location! The lavender fields run along the back of the tasting room. The wine is excellent, especially their reds! They've had to grow their tasting room since the beginnings, and it's a great addition. Their patio is expansive, often with live music on the weekends! They offer tours every hour or so that last about twenty minutes, which are absolutely worth checking out. They take you through the vintner's process, from fermentation to aging in oak barrels. You get to see all the equipment, and learn a lot about how cool the place is. The tastings are totally worth it- $12 for 6 tastings. You get a free glass with it. You get to jump around their wine list and try everything from the whites, to the ports, to the reserve wines. Totally worth it. The tasting guides are knowledgeable, and friendly. If you ask me, their reds are the best of the wines. The underground wine cellar has a treasure trove of vintages that the owner cracks into occasionally. There's a sign out front that says that you can't bring your own outside wine, unless it's Becker's. They say it's TABC regulation, but I think it's good form to drink the wine of the vintner on location. Be sure to check out their selection of lavender products. The lavender dryer sheets are amazing, if they do stain your sheets a little. They make your towels and sheets smell amazing! read more

My favorite wine tasting experience out of 5 wineries during my trip to Fredericksburg. Becker's is actually 10miles east of Fredericksburg in Stonewall, TX. I visited on a Sunday afternoon with beautiful cool weather which made the entire estate look very promising. I loved the interior architecture, with high ceilings and wood finishing, it was spot on for having some wine. The staff was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Our server Gary had one of the most interesting mustaches I've ever seen...something like what Peter's evil twin Thaddeus, had from Family Guy. Best of all, the wine here is fantastic for a great price too. Tastings are $10/6 tastes and you get to keep their glass, which is a big bordeaux glass, best I've seen on my trip. Their wine ranges from $10-$40 and most of them are delicious, unlike the very spicy reds I've tasted at other wineries. My gf and I drank an entire bottle with a pack of delicious Prosciutto and enjoyed our afternoon outside on the porch with live music. With the sun shining on the beautiful autumn field, it was an absolute getaway from the city. Must-see, must-drink, a must-stop! read more

Even though this was the first winery I have ever visited I am rating this "I've experienced better" because this cannot be a normal practice for this vineyard. Although their wines are terrific their vineyard needs a lot of work. The place is too crowded for the number of employees they have working. There's no one to tell you where to go, what to do until you're in someone's way and you're bothering them. The "tour" is in a freezing cellar where you just taste the wines and they explain the wines to you in a rapid fire speech where you pick up one of every 5-6 words they say. The bar and the items to buy around the bar are great. That and the fact this is in the hill country are about the only good things about this place that I experienced. The cashier at the bar was friendly and helpful so he helped form a better impression of this place in my mind. I would be willing to come back here again, maybe with a smaller crowd and on day/weekend that wasn't so busy. read more

This place was my favorite of the Fredericksburg wineries that I've been too. $10 for 6 wine tastings and I noticed that you definitely get more (maybe like 50% more) wine than other tastings in the area. The servers are very friendly and are somewhat knowledgeable (not all of them know as much as others). But the best thing is that you get a free glass when you do the wine tastings. Parking can be tough because alot of people visit Becker Vineyards. But that's pretty much the only negative. The wines are great and you don't have to pay more to try out the reserve wines. The french guy during the tour is great as well and knows al lot about wine. For those who are interested, Becker does the stomp on grapes thing for $20 on the last weekend of august and first weekend of September. Not impressed! I came to Becker's on my recent trip to Texas from Chicago. The wine was decent at best and the staff had no knowledge of the Texas wine industry nor the products they were slinging. This place is overcrowded, overwhelming, and rushed. We had a hard time finding space for the two of us at the tasting bar. The woman who was helping us with our tasting was unable to tell me anything more about the wines than what was listed on the piece of paper. I asked her for recommendations based on my wine preferences and she told me it "is personal preference"....well duh. Whatever you do, do not go on the tour. Snoozeville. What a waste of 25 minutes of my life. We were told the tour would take 10 minutes, it was more like 30 and we escaped before venturing down to the wine cellar. The gentleman leading the tour just would not stop talking. I hate being lectured, especially on vacation. You will learn that they import half their grapes from other places, and that there is a difference between American oak barrels and French Oak barrels. (You're welcome, I just saved you 30 minutes. Use it to drink more wine. Somewhere else!) read more

This place is really pretty, I'll give it that. Of all the Fredericksburg wineries I've been to, and it's more than a few, this one is consistently the most crowded. The tasting room is bustling and, try as they might, I haven't yet had the great service like I've had at other wineries simply because of the crowds. I'm having a hard time remembering what I thought of the wine, which...is an opinion in and of itself, no? I'd give it another star if they had more outdoor seating. They have a large and lovely patio off the tasting room, but not nearly enough seats for the amount of people that come on the weekend. I'd love to see the lavender in bloom. I guess I'll just have to give it another try! Maybe the third time will be the charm. read more

As you travel about the hill country on Hwy 290 between Fredericksburg and Stonewall, a lovely place awaits your discovery, known as Becker Vineyards. The picturesque setting cannot be beat. On the drive down Becker Farms Road to the vineyard, you'll be surrounded (if its the right time of year) by fragrant, purple lavender fields in bloom. Find your way to the vineyard's main building, a German limestone barn replication and it's altogether really breathtaking. Inside the limestone building are two tasting rooms, one small, one quite large, both packed on a weekend afternoon. They offer a broad spectrum of wines, and I'm by no means a wine aficionado, but the tastings are fun and allow you to sample bits of everything. Taste 3 wines for $6, or have a full glass of one for the same price. Bottles were about $14 each, though a couple of the options were a bit pricier. In the end, we settled on the Pinot Grigio, which was very crisp and clean, with strong citrus and fruity taste, but not very sweet at all, so it was a great balance. Outside is a huge open patio where on my most recent visit, groups were congregating, sipping on wine, listening to classic country tunes performed by Lonnie Lett. All were singing along together, dancing and having a wonderful time. Beyond that is the beautiful lawn surrounded by lavender fields where groups were sitting in the grass and taking advantage of the superb photo opps. I was there with a group of some of my favorite girlfriends. We found a few benches in a semi circle around a table and sat together laughing, singing and watching the sunset over the lavender fields. All in all, this day may go down as one of my favorites in my entire life and we're already planning our next trip to have another. read more

We stopped by Becker Vineyards in Hill Country on the way back to Austin A standard tasting here costs $5 for 6 tastes. They really are just tastes, a limiter on the bottles pours exactly 1 ounces. Nonetheless we weren't here to get wasted today. The goods for me were the cab-sarah and cab. Not so good was the merlot and rose. The staff was friendly and gave us 2 complementary wines as well. Also a lot of their top wines were sold out. A real plus was they have brownies and jam scattered around for you to munch on. The made lavender as well at Becket so in addition to wine they sold soap. The site is beautiful. Sitting outside on a sunny day listening to live music sealed it off and I didn't want to move for the rest of the day. They don't ship everywhere yet, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the cab from Becker. read more

I read another review that inaccurately exaggerated that there aren't hardly any wines that people can taste without being a wine club member. That is false. There are four I know of that are wine club member only wines. Other than those, there are about 15+ from which to choose which is plenty. I enjoy being a wine club member at Becker. One of the things that's important to me is having a good selection of wines. They offer around twenty wines from which to choose six for a tasting. Tasting in the main room can get busy so try the outside shaded tasting bar. Or just buy a bottle and enjoy it with family or friends at the covered outside patio. They also offer some limited food in a separate area but I have only walked in there to look and haven't eats anything. Wine tours are also available. When we've been there they always offer free ones although I am sure there are others that may require a reservation and or cost money. Lastly, Bobby is one of the friendliest staff members. Even though most are friendly, he is the best server and we always try to search him out. read more

I've visited Becker 4 different times, all different years with different vintages of wines to try. Last year I remembered to take home and save my little info book about what wines I really liked and brought it along this year to taste against. The two wines I really enjoyed last year were really different this year. Overall this year there wasn't a single wine I would go purchase, normally I can find one. Also, we were there fairly early in the morning- 11:15 or so, and the person who was pouring our samples was also pouring for another group. We had a group of 4 and ended up waiting a little longer than we would have liked for our next sample. Overall, I think I'll be skipping it on my next tour of the hill country. read more

The highlight of our winery visits! The staff was knowledgeable and helpful, with great recommendations. We are not wine experts or anything, and we didn't feel judged or out of place, just welcomed, which was really nice. The wines tasted great, and we felt like we got a great deal for the money. We paid $15 for 6 tastings and a glass to take home - but they gave everyone an additional sample to start, plus they gave us a free double-pour while we went on the free walking tour! The tour was great, too - very interesting to see the different machines and everything that it takes to make the wine, plus the cellar and barrels and everything. Beautiful ambiance and great service! This is by far my favorite winery and cannot wait to come back with our dog! Even though it wasn't lavender season, the winery had plenty of lavender scented soaps, lotions, candles and other goodies! The wine was also one of the best I've ever tasted. My favorite was the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon. I'm usually not a rose person but their award winning Jolie was delicious! This should be a must stop destination when in Fredericksburg. read more
