It was a tricky problem. We discovered a hive 60' up an ailing ash tree that needed to be removed. The tree guys wouldn't go near it, said to let them know when the bees were gone! We got pointed to Bee Control NW. I felt like I had a team of problem solvers and get-r-done guys working with me, not just hired hands. Bill steadied the project (and the ladder), Kelly strategized it, and intrepid Rob went up the 60' extension ladder. So, funny enough, this is not 5-stars for service completed, but 5-stars for saveing me some money and educating me that the service wasn't required at all! I reached out through Yelp projects, thinking that I needed a yellow jacket nest cleaned out over the winter. Kelly responded and let me know that all the yellow jackets die off suring the winter and the queen hibernates elsewhere. So, in essence, he "turned away" my business cause it wasn't needed. We emailed Bee Control Northwest, including a photo of the insect in question. We had recently noticed a bunch of little holes being dug out in the dirt between the cracks of our backyard patio. We were worried about yellow jackets, especially because we and our dog spend a lot of time in the backyard. We heard back promptly from Bill Ruhl, the owner, and was so helpful and informative! He asked some questions and said he didn't believe we had yellow jackets because, if so, we'd be noticing constant activity outside the holes and many of them. Instead, the thought the insect could be a solitary wasp, and not a danger. We really appreciated his time and expertise. Called these guys last week about some bees making a home in the wall by our front door, and some wasps by the back. Bill's son (sorry, forgot your name!) took a good 20 minutes to get a handle on my concerns, because for medical reasons we can't use pesticides around our home. Bill came by same day and took his time to explain what each type of bee and wasp were, and what sort of behavior we could expect if we left them alone (i.e. whether they would be aggressive and hurt us). Barring dealing with them chemically, Bill physically broke up the home the bees in the front were making, and closed up the holes that had allowed the bees to enter. He also got up on a ladder and smashed the paper wasps by the back, and, though the queen in a second location got away from him, he explained how and when to go after that nest as well. As first time homeowners, I didn't know anything about any of this. Bill also took some time to explain what to look out for in our yard in case yellow jackets start appearing. I was really worried that a bug guy would show up, roll his eyes at me about the pesticides, and not offer any non-chemical solutions to our problems, so this was such a pleasant surprise. I called and chatted with Kelly at 9:35am this morning and by 10:30 Rob was at my house and had the entire job taken care of by 11:00. Wow! I am so happy I reached out to this company! It is so nice to talk to people that not only are extremely knowledgeable and caring about their work, but caring about what is best for the people reaching out to them for help. Bill spent a long time with me on the phone (on a Friday evening after normal business hours no less) explaining to me what was going on with my wasp situation and discussing what my options were. Based on his advice, I decided to hold off on extermination. I called about killing a yellow jacket nest that was going to get in the way of installing a heat pump. They had someone come out the same day even though it wasn't an emergency. I called and described my problem to a lovely woman on the phone (I suspect this was Bill's wife) who listened to my issue in detail and then took the time to educate me on the different types of insects prevalent in my area, how to protect my home and when I needed to call for help. I unfortunately used this bee control company and got totally ripped off. After getting a quote on a service call witch they said was $65 dollars I was charged $215.00 just for showing up in addition to another $315.00 remove a bee hive. I was never informed of the additional charges until I received the bill of $530.00 in which case I would call another company. I would never use this company, there policy's are totally dishonest. read more

He reviewed the bees nests that were growing, sprayed them, and knocked them down, and gave us good advice on what to look for in the future (April-May are the nest building months). Gentleman on the phone was very friendly and helpful when I called in the am. Called back in the afternoon and the bee expert was at my house within a half an hour.
