Fantastic. We stopped on our way to Harper's Ferry when traffic hit a snag. So glad we looked to yelp to guide us to a local spot. We had crabcakes, 98% jumbo lump and delicious :) We live in Maryland and have had crab cakes all over this state. These were the most flavorful we have had so far. Better than G & M even. The chili kraut dog also delicious. We had a sample of their chocolate soft serve and if only I had room left... I was dying to try a bite of our son's Reuben but one's stomach is only so big... The owners were incredibly friendly and made sure we knew even the hot dog chili was house made and fresh. Everything is fresh and made to order and they put all the food neatly in a box to go. We ordered a regular cheeseburger, Mammoth, French fries, and mozzarella stick (yep I got spoiled). The burger tastes freshly grilled and it is not greasy at all. Fixings were also cut and prepared freshly so you get the crunchy and juicy texture/taste in your month while bit into it. The French fires are crispy outside and soft inside. And the cheese sticks were thick, well made (no leaking of greasiness) with a chewy and stringy texture. Delicious and so friendly! On a long trip back from upstate NY we were searching for a place that had outdoor seating and was pet friendly. My husband was also craving burgers and when this popped up on yelp it sounded perfect. As soon as we pulled up around 815 pm we noticed it was a packed lot. When we got our spot and walked towards the long line one of the owners approached us to let us know the kitchen was about to close and the line was for ice cream only. He said he would be happy to take our order and put it in right away. He made a great burger selection for my husband (the mammoth) and I got the smaller version. We sat at a picnic table and did not wait long before the owner let us know they were ready. The burgers we great! Nice and juicy meat, crispy bacon and melty cheese. We followed it up with ice cream which was also great. Better than the food (which was amazing) was the very friendly service. The burger was considerably small and I'm pretty sure it was frozen. The fries were good though they didn't bother to put salt on them, they give you packets to do it yourself instead. I've been yelping for quite a while now, and one of the things I know drives business owners nuts is when someone bases a review on a single visit. Unfortunately that's the nature of the beast sometimes (after all- first impressions matter!), but it's unfair in a lot of ways because it's incredibly hard to be 100% perfect all the time. Sometimes you may just get a freak bad experience at an otherwise stellar business. So when you are a regular customer at a business, it seems most fair to base reviews on the totality of your experience, and not just on one visit. After all- you're a regular for a reason! I forgot that a few weeks ago, and left an honest but perhaps hasty updated review of Beef N Buns. My family and I have been enjoying the ice cream from this local institution for a little over a year, and we consider our proximity to it to be one of the best aspects of our home. We did in fact have a negative experience the last time we were in. I got a lovely email from the owner shortly after posting my review, explaining some of the behind the scenes changes that led to my experience, and expressing how he's hopeful to see our family back again soon, as they'll miss us. It was easily the best response I've ever seen from a business owner, published or personally sent, in my life. I've gotten my fair share of responses to positive, neutral and negative reviews, but this email was the epitome of what a perfect response is. If you'd like me to send it to you, please message me- I'm more than happy to share it. It was a good reminder to me that good businesses depend on their customers, just like customers depend on good businesses- and owners that truly understand that aren't a dime a dozen, so we need to support those that get it. Underwhelming for me.. I had the patty melt and it was okay BUT the patty itself lacked flavor, no salt, no pepper. We don't eat burgers to be healthy so flavor it up!! First time here after driving past countless times. Went on a morning hike and worked up an appetite so seemed like a great time to stop. Went simple with cheeze burger platter with soda, fries and mac salad for about $9. Burger cooked to order so not fast food at all. Plenty of different topping options to satisfy most. My medium cook was little more towards medium rare but that was ok. Fries were fresh and hot, mac salad was good but if you're not a celery fan should pass. I got my order in under 10 min. Parking lot was empty when I pulled in but was full by the time I left. Seating is outside but nice day so that was good along with little reggae on the speakers. Order any burger or sandwich with any of their free fixin's. Order their FRESH SQUEEZED TO ORDER lemonade. Take an ice cream pie home (seriously, don't skip this step, it's the most important). They make your food when you ask for it, so it's not just sitting under a heat lamp and microzapped when you order it. Take your bounty and eat at the picnic tables outside, since there's no inside dining. I can't think of a better way to spend a summer afternoon. Unless I'm fighting someone for the last piece of ice cream pie, because that results in drawn blood. By me. Sure, it's "slow" for "fast food." If you want food in 30 seconds and don't care if it's pumped full of preservatives and crap, go to McDonalds, you philistine. REAL food takes (a little) time, and you can't rush greatness. The meat is fresh and local, the hours are convenient and good (in the summer they are open until 10-ish), and the service is friendly and involved. However, the fries weren't very good, the prices for their sides and desserts seems a little high, and the service is a little slow. I think most of the negatives can be somewhat excused, though. I haven't had the other sides, because I was put off by the fries, but it may have been an off day and the other sides may be really good. The prices are sufferable because the prices on their burgers is competitive. And since the burgers are handmade and cooked to order, you have to expect a little wait. Plus, it's nice that the owners will stop by your picnic table to make sure you are enjoying your sandwich. Is it the best burger I've ever had? No (I'm looking at you Ray's). I discovered this gem on a website similar to this one. I had driven past it a million times but never thought to try it out. I am glad that I finally stopped (though my arteries aren't so glad). The burgers here are made with 100% local beef, the crabcakes are all lump and all awesome. Every oversized sub that I have tried has been delicious. Basically, I have nothing bad to say about this place other than the fact that it is slowly leading me to a giant coffin. I should note that I lived in Baltimore for the last decade and my wife is from the eastern shore, the crabcakes here are as Maryland as you can get. They are as authentic as any Baltimore or Ocean City crabcake. The soft serve is great, as are the milkshakes. So much for buying into the hype I read on Yelp. The burgers I asked to be made medium well we're all overdone. The burgers themselves had zero seasoning. Just throwing everything on a burger that you find in your kitchen doesn't make the burger great, it makes it VERY MESSY!!! There is a ketchup and paper napkin police. They ration it all, come on guys, if you make a messy burger please be nice and part with a few extra paper napkins. I had 3 buckets of fries and you give me little to no ketchup. There is no table service which is not a problem to me but stock the tables with the basics like mustard, ketchup, napkins etc. don't make me interrupt my dinner each time and walk to the window knock and make it look like you are doing me a favor by serving me. I consider myself well travelled and I've eaten at many small yet great restaurants and I don't consider this anywhere close to half decent. I started with a soft-serve cone, and enjoyed that thoroughly - the chocolate/vanilla swirl so rich. And after a short wait, my entree - a Hawaiian burger - and its Coca-Cola sidekick arrived. I have been on a well documented, nationwide pursuit of a truly great burger for years... YEARS, I tell ya! And I think my journey may have concluded at this little place near the airport. We live less than a mile from this little gem, which means my husband and I find ourselves here sometimes weekly. The place makes us nostalgic for Key West every time. The woman who runs the kitchen, Vicki, is hilarious - she actually owns the place with her husband. Plenty of outdoor seating and there's a drive-up window if you call in your order ahead. The authentic soft serve is the best in the town - there are a ton of flavors to choose from. And from what I understand, the beef is local. The burgers are great. I was about to head out the door to go to Frederick, when my appetite rocked me harder than a hurricane (thanks Scorpions). I was tempted to take the easy way out and go to McD's drive-thru when a little voice said I shouldn't. It must have been Yelp's... So I looked up some cheap food joints in Frederick so that I could build up my energy before bum rushing the antique malls. This place was near the top. With all the great reviews and charming photos, I had to partake. I'm pleased to say it was a success. Here is what I ordered and my ratings on a scale of 1-5 (5 being best): Cheeseburger (quarter pound) = 4 Maryland Crab Soup = 3 Fresh Lemonade = 3 Onion rings = SIX So the burger was good like people were raving on here. Nice to see it is locally-sourced and substantial. You can add lots of free fixins. I went with the typical, ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. The soup was just ok for me. It tasted a bit like regular vegetable soup with crab added in. While I like crab and vegetable soup, I would probably not pay as much if it was in fact just the combination of the two. The lemonade was also just ok. While freshly squeezed, it tasted like watered down lemon juice, until my straw hit the bottom of the cup, where it picked up sprinkles of undissolved sugar. If it was mixed better, I might have bumped it up. But here's the best thing for me - the ONION RINGS. They were really tasty, and I don't usually rave about fried food. They had a relatively thick coating of beer batter but not so thick as to eclipse the onion. The ratio was perfect as was the crispy texture. I had ketchup but could equally eat them au naturel. In terms of decor and customer service, it's as charmingly local as you can get among the sprawl that has taken over the area. The fact that it resembles a beach house makes you feel like you are in Ocean City. The folks running the joint are friendly and efficient. Plus there's lots of snarky but funny signs lining the ordering area that you can read while you're waiting. We stumbled upon this little treasure today when our car broke down and we needed to grab some lunch. I've never been so happy to have car trouble!! The burgers we ordered were amazingly delicious and prepared to order. The sweet potato fries were crisp and sweet. While we were waiting for our food, the owner offered us samples of their soups, and I tried the Maryland Crab. It was fantastic; I almost caved in and ordered some. The only drawback is the lack of indoor seating, but fortunately it was nice weather so we enjoyed having lunch "al fresco"! We'll certainly be back... We were in Frederick to do some grand daughter sitting, and gave Beef N Buns a try. Great choice. On a Friday evening, busy, but the line for the order window moved quickly, still allowed us decent time to study the menu and make our choices. Placed an order for a cheeseburger for the youngster (her choice) and got a whole cheese steak with caramelized onions to split between the two adults. French fries with nacho sauce rounded out the order. Waited outside in a pleasant evening breeze for about 10 minutes, got the anxiously awaited call to the pickup window. Looked for a seat at the outdoor picnic table and they were full, so we took it back to the house and ate outdoors on the patio. Everything was delicious. The bun for the cheese steak was toasted, giving it a different but enjoyable flavor. Fries were very good and the generous cup of nacho sauce was delicious... just the right amount of heat.
