I used to be a huge Portillo's fan, then appreciated Buena Beef but still went to Portillo's because it was close and more locations. However after several trips to Beef Shack (Bartlett) I am convinced and have done same with my entire extended family to switch. If it's the regular beef, or the Beef on garlic bread with Cheese, Beef Shack BLOWS Portillo's away!!!! Better flavor, better bread, larger portions (they actually fill the roll with beef) where as Portillo's has really cut back since they were purchased. Walked in to an open counter and ordered after waiting 2-3 minutes for a cash register problem. Ordered a cheezy garlic beef and a "mini" fry, $11.00+ which I felt was beyond expensive. Exiting there eastbound is interesting and exhilarating. At home could not tell if I actually even got the garlic bread because the flavor was very faint if even present at all. Great food, but on the pricey side. Hot-dogs are excellent (great flavor, snap), but are $3 a pop. At this higher-end price, you're essentially competing with Portillo's (who get TONS of business) and Scooby's who both charge the same price per dog. What would be best is if the $3 price (or even slightly higher like $3.29) included fries with the dog. (*Also, for $4 you can get a double-dog. This is probably the better bargain for your buck.) Beefs are very good, again they are on the pricey-er end. Buona Beef (Glendale Heights or St. Charles) and Poor Boy II (Wheaton - Roosevelt Rd.) have better beefs for better value. Beef Shack uses their own hoagie-type of roll. I think Gonella french bread is the best for beefs, but the beefs here are still pretty good. Fresh cut fries are very good. Burger I did not try, but a family member said it was "excellent". I would return here, because the place also does offer little coupons here and there, and occasionally has special bargains. We ordered two beef sandwiches and a large order of fries to go yesterday. The beef was ok, but not as good as the beef from Pietanza's across the street. The BIG problem was with the fries. About 90% of them were so burnt it was like eating charcoal, not that I ever tried it. I didn't realize there was a problem until I got home. I've been a regular customer at this place since it opened. I come at least twice a week. I also come on Tuesdays for the dollar hot dogs and go through the drive through. No problems until tonight. The cocky individual taking the order said I could only get 2 hot dogs for a dollar each but I wanted 3 like I always do. 2 for me and 1 for my wife. I explained this to her and she said I could order the 2 and my wife would have to come in for the 3rd. I told her my wife was in the car and she could see her but she wouldn't budge. I was also ordering other things besides the hot dogs. I told her to just forget it and left. When I got home, I called and asked to speak to the manager. I was on hold for 15 minutes and hung up. We have been to this location many times since they opened. The 1st couple of times our orders were always right. Tonight we went there, placed our orders and waited awhile at the drive thru. They gave us our orders and as we were driving (still at the parking lot), we realized the full size salad was not in the bag. I had to go in and get it. Then we were about 10 mins away and realized they only gave us 1 container of cheese (ordered 3). It was a hassle to go back. It wouldn't have been bad if we didn't get charged for the other 2. This is not the first time. The other time, they didn't give us the salad. Other times, its the cheese. My girlfriend and I shared our thoughts that finally we have a beef stand close to us outside of portillo's. Told the owner that everything was great and we would be visiting weekly. 2nd visit nothing like the first. Upon entering I notice 2 orders of French fries had been made and were sitting underneath the warmer. 15 min. Later my order was being processed and couldn't take my mind off of those 2 orders of sad French fries that I knew had my name on them. Well sure enough I was the lucky recipient of those fries. 1 word "unedible". The beef consistency was one of rubber. Not happy, 22$ in the garbage. Hope they can turn things around fast. read more

Poor packaging for carry out orders. They put hot and cold items in the same bag. I ordered through a third part delivery service and my shakes came without any type of seal over the top. The tips of the shakes are open so they can put whipped cream on, but they don't seal them in any way. Not cool when the food is being delivered by a third party. read more

I came to know this restaurant through a friend who lives in the area and who also introduced me to it. The service is fast. Then, the burger has a good portion, not too big and not too small either, and it tastes really good, as do the fresh-cut fries.
