My vegetarian wife wanted to check out Beelman's last Sunday so that's exactly where we found ourselves. Located on Spring St in DTLA, this extremely cool looking bar/restaurant is filled with old school pictures of musicians and actors and has a really retro feel to it. It's the kind of place that you walk in, look at the menu, order at the bar, and then take a seat and wait for the food to come out to you, which I am a huge fan of since I love paying before I eat. The menu here has a huge vegan section with burgers, sandwiches, apps, wraps, and even some bowls. I ended up ordering a Borracho Fries, which is a big ol' plate of French Fries, house made pico de gallo, cheddar cheese, filet mignon (which kind of just tastes like cheesesteak meat honestly) and it was a dang slap in the taste buds. I'm a big fat sucker for french fry based meals and this Borracho Fries were really, really, really good. Great taste, crispy fries, and whatever smackin' sauce is. Overall, Beelman's was a great experience and definitely somehwere we will be returning to in the future with some friends. What a cool spot. Saw that they have tvs and we were trying to catch the Spurs game. Open seating and we ended up at a community sort of table. The beers are great, the food is amazing! Had the Toridashi spiced dry wings and wow!! Our friends ordered the boracho fries and loved it. We also got the garlic tots. A must! Will definitely return for some more fun here. read more

I've been to Beelmans about 3 or 4 times now, and overall, I've really enjoyed the restaurant. My partner and I have a hard time finding places we both enjoy because I'm vegan and he isn't, and he's not particularly crazy about vegan food. So when I discovered Beelmans, I was excited to find a place where there were options for both of us. I enjoyed it, he enjoyed it, and I was excited to bring him back. Last night was actually our second time coming together. Unfortunately, the customer service we received last night put a damper on what had otherwise been a great evening. When we arrived, the two security guards were having a conversation. We greeted them, although I'm not even sure whether we were actually supposed to be checked before entering, as we've always simply walked in on previous visits. As we were walking toward the door, one of the guards grabbed my arm and asked whether we were regulars. I answered yes. Regardless of whether we were supposed to be checked at the door, I did not appreciate being physically grabbed. It made me uncomfortable, and both my partner and I found the interaction strange. My partner went to the bar and asked whether everyone is checked at the door. One of the bartenders, asked if it was a trick question. My partner explained what had happened, and he said that they do check everyone and that he would speak with security about touching me. We decided to move on and enjoy the rest of our night. Unfortunately, the service at the bar later became another issue. When we wanted drink refills, I took our empty cups to the bar. I'm not particularly fond of having to do this myself, but I understand that this is how refills are handled here. There were very few people at the bar, and I stood there with our empty glasses waiting to be helped. The latinx bartender with dreadlocks was free but seemed to be occupied with his phone, and was later seen eating behind the bar. The woman who had assisted me on previous visits, and who has always been great, was no longer there. The other bartender, the same one my partner had spoken with earlier, eventually came over. I greeted him and asked for two Sprite refills. He responded, "I can't hear you,"with a steange tone, even though the music wasn't particularly loud and I don't have a quiet voice. I repeated my request. He told me to slide the glasses forward, which I also found strange considering I had already placed them within reach, and typically the bartenders there grab the glasses themselves. It felt very passive aggressive. He pours them, hands free, with the bar tool, then fills up a plastic cup which I assume was his, without filling our glasses to the top, or handing them back to me for that matter. My partner noticed that our drinks weren't even filled all the way, without me having to say anything about the interaction. We were polite and pleasant with the staff throughout the evening despite these interactions, but unfortunately, there's really no excuse for consistently poor customer service. This also hasn't been my experience every time I've visited. The security guard is typically fine, he greets us and can be a little awkward, but I've never had an issue with him before. My concern was specifically with being physically touched without being asked. He did wish us a goodnight when we left, which felt sincere. The latinx bartender with the dreadlocks, however, has consistently made me feel overlooked when he's working. On a previous visit, I was standing at the bar waiting for a refill while he was free, and another customer sitting at the bar actually had to point out that I was waiting. I had already been told to wait because he was showing another bartender how to make a drink. The other pateons were being helped by thenother bartneder, and That bartender he was helping appeared to understand what he was doing and finished making it himself, so I was confused about why I continued to be overlooked when it would have taken only a moment to refill my glasses. The other customer ultimately spoke up because they noticed what was happening. I'm disappointed because we had just seen a great film and were excited to end the night by supporting a place we had discovered and genuinely enjoyed. Beelmans has been a great find for us because it's one of the few places where my partner and I can both find food we enjoy. That's why last night's experience was especially frustrating. I'm not expecting special treatment, but I do expect to be treated with basic courtesy and respect when I'm spending money at a restaurant. Hopefully this was an isolated experience, I honestly am not sure if I'll be back after this. It will definitely be factored into that decision. read more

I try to visit Beelman's any time I'm in LA. The downtown location is really convenient if you're already going to a downtown event. I've had the tacos, and a few of the wraps/sandwiches and everything has been excellent. I would say they have some of the best vegan food in down town LA. I like sitting in the front patio since there's usually a breeze. I don't drink alcohol so I can't really comment on the drinks. read more

So glad we stopped by after an event in DTLA! I ordered the Oaxaca Mule and my friend got a sangria, and we split the Rodeo Burger with onion rings. Everything was so delicious! I wanted to love this spot, but I didn't exactly. Overall, it is nice and I appreciate the extensive vegan options (although it used to be fully vegan then added the non-vegan). The food was good but very average, especially for example the fries which are basically crinkle fries out of a frozen bag. The drinks were good so thumbs up for that. We had a straw-basil margarita, frozen blood orange daiquiri and a lavender frozen drink (all pictured here). The place is a bit small, we were out in little patio because we had our dog with us, arrival experience was somewhat chaotic as we had to figure out how to order, get our menus and all. I love going to DTLA just to eat here, it's such a laid back atmosphere where you can get a sports bar vibe. Also the plant based food menu is amazing! We ordered the vegan lemon pepper wings, taco trio and "That's a Tasty Burger". The name of the burger tells it all, it was the first to be eaten! The wings were good but I do wish they added more of the lemon pepper seasoning. The Taco Trio was delicious! My favorite was the Citrus Spare "Rib", I've never had a taco with that flavor profile before. The Al Pastor and Crispy Tofu taco both tied for second place. That's right y'all, the incomparable Quintin E (SFV & IE OCA), Miori (SGV OCA), and Alyssa (OC OCA) popped in for some brews and kikis. This is a good option if there's a Vegan in your group as there are some Vegan friendly menu items in the mix. Now me, I un-puroposefully went protein free but the tots...they just call to you sometimes! The tots at Beelman's are top! Top tots! Top tier tots! I ordered a full meal but filled up on the tots, took the rest to go and enjoyed later at home. Really friendly bartender! You order at the bar (perfect craft beer options, mind you) and then grab yourself a seat bellied up or at one of their booths. Beerwise, I had a Firestone Parabola (14.1% imperial stout) for $11 and a Begin To Arrive from Creature Comforts (7% ipa), just as examples of how stellar their beer list is. So if you need a spot in DTLA to grab a drink and you love beer, cockies or wines, with or without a vegan friend, this is a great spot for yah! read more

Alyssa, Miori and Sarah were the perfect end of the week crew to revisit an old favorite with. Miori enjoyed the regular Wings, Sarah had the B.L.A.S.T. and Alyssa had those perfect Buffalo Cauliflower crispy florets w/ plant based ranch (egg and dairy free). We had cool brews, mules and drink specials. For me it was rose as well as frose all day! Some great craft brews and a mule or two for everyone else in the crew. Our service was amazing - you do order everything you want at the bar where you can also leave your tab open (they return your card to you right away and you just let them know when you wish to close out). Good music, good vibes and plenty of seating to choose from - seat yourself inside at a booth, bar or shared long tables. The patio outside has some great options as well - really nice and well lit (especially at night). Restrooms still as still alternative indie and well kept. The temp is mostly room, but they will adjust to beat the heat and/or humidity (much of that lately). Parking is street or lots only - there is a small lot across the street off of Spring as well as some options nearby on neighboring streets. Only a five minute stroll from Pershing (Square) Station. I came here through a recommendation from a friend that talked highly about the place. I was somewhat disappointed as whatever she raved about seemed non-existent. She recommended it for the awesome cocktails and the exquisite vegan cuisine. When I dined there they had very basic vegan dishes that were not worth the price. Such as sandwiches and tater tots. The menu was also not exclusively vegan or vegetarian. Not that this matters as I am neither, but I am always up for trying different food especially when it was so highly recommended. Pros: **Atmosphere: It looks like a regular pub with the low lighting and all inside. Bur it has Vegan food and drinks. We ate outside on picnic tables. **Food: For pub food we are really surprised how delicious and tasty the food was--much better than the typical pub with meat dishes. *Dishes: Totchos(addictive), Hummus Plate, Buddha Bowl, Viet Nom Nom Wrap(unique), Buffalo chicken Wrap. I went here to watch the super bowl with a friend, it was so fun and great energy there was a big tv screen projector screen which was very easy to see so that was awesome, even if it was crowded. I love that they offer an equal ratio of vegan to non vegan options and they're food goes well beyond the norm. My personal favs are the Loco Moco Bowl and the Potato Taquitos. Drinks are tasty but a bit on the pricey side considering the ratio of ice to drink they give you but what can ya say...it's dem downtown prices. This is a great spot to have in DTLA -- think no frills, sports bar where you'll find a wide range of beers on tap. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but know whenever I visit a place like this it's best to steer clear from the wine. Better to go with what the place shines at! What makes this place unique is the extensive vegan food they serve. A few times a year I take a break from eating any animal products and technically at the same time stop drinking alcohol (oops, not this last time!). I enjoyed the Buddha Bowl, which comes with a wide range of veggies, chickpeas and grains. It was tasty and went great with the beer. There is bar seating and booths inside but we opted to sit out on the patio, which was great time for those rare warm LA nights. Maybe, they are really known for their veggie dishes, I'm not sure but the burger, fries and honey Sriracha wings I received through Grubhub were underseasoned, underwhelming and very mediocre. My burger had more lettuce than anything and it was reminisce of Apple Pan's burgers because of that but that is where resemblance ended. Apple Pan's seasons their meat and burgers. This place does not. Fries were typical steak fries. Nothing amazing..They could be there or they could not. The wings were soggy and had a lot of fat. I think they were also undercooked. They tasted like the growth hormone chicken and they weren't very pleasant. I was not impressed. I read the reviews before ordering and really thought I was in for a treat. But, if they can't get burger and fries right or chicken decent...why on earth would I try anything more. I gave 2 stars because although the food was not tasty...it was edible. read more

The guy checking ids last night was really rude to me and my friend. We came to bellman's at around 10:30 on Sunday January 18. My friend and I just wanted to sit for a second outside and use the restroom, but the man was being really mean and talked down to us and wasn't letting us talk at all. When I started to talk he didn't acknowledge my presence. He didn't even make eye contact when talking to me. Which I feel is very disrespectful. I stood up for myself and told him that and he said I wasn't talking to you? He wasn't talking to anyone lol. His tone was off and he has no customer service skills whatsoever. He shouldn't be working in food service if he is going to act so entitled and uptight. We also thought he was racist against Hispanic people. He checked our ids twice ?? we are of age!! Got mad cause we didn't purchase anything but didn't tell us the first time we had to buy something. He was also verbally abusive and aggressive. He didn't look like he wanted to be at work. Never smiled, rude talking to us. Just my experience. So don't recommend. read more
